1 Wiper problem of the 2014 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/16/2024

I started noticing the ghosting or tripling of light issue in my windshield. I mostly noticed this during night times, I initially thought I was just tired and my eyes were tired, but I’ve been able to photograph it and verify my experience with other people. This effect is horrible for my eyesight and makes all lights at night so blurry I cannot drive safely.

2 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

Was driving around 35 mph and my right side mirror blew up. The back blew off and the mirror was shattered and hanging. Nothing hit it. Contacted Toyota and the parts have been on a stop, but there is no recall. It has been 4 months.

3 Wiper problem of the 2024 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/17/2024

Background: nothing failed or malfunctioned. There is no incident. This reports describes a design defect that puts the driver at risk. The dealer has acknowledged that the cars performs this way and says it cannot be fixed. Toyota customer service says this is how the car operates and short of a recall will do nothing about it. Problem: when the headlights are turned on, the dash and screen become so dim that they are only visible at night. If it is necessary to turn the lights on during the day, the screen and dash are too dim to read. There needs to be some way to set the brightness such that it overrides the nighttime setting. Driving with the lights on all the time is considered safer (and it is the law if it is raining out). This defect means the driver has to choose between having the lights on and being able to consistently see the dash and screen.

5 Wiper problem of the 2019 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

This happened about 3 weeks ago. I drove to work on local roads with no incidents of debris hitting windshield - no visible cracks. After my shift I spotted about a three foot crack in the middle of windshield leading down to passenger side. No warnings or symptoms of a problem. Although car is 2019, I have less than 16000 miles on it & most of my driving is highway & local roads. I’ve read that 2016-2017 Prius had this issue with lawsuit pending which also stated safety concerns over early warning detection system failing due to windshield cracks. Toyota (on phone) said it would cost 1200 to replace. I bought the extended warranty but it doesn’t cover the windshield. No inspection done except by coworkers.

6 Wiper problem of the 2012 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

The glass sunroof spontaneously exploded or imploded. There was a loud popping sound and I looked up at the sunroof, and it was shattered. Glass started falling on me as I was driving on the highway. There have been many reported cases of this happening found online. Https://topclassactions. Com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/Toyota-owners-should-be-aware-of-reported-exploding-sunroof-risk/ it has not been inspected yet. No warning messages.

7 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

Started vehicle in driveway to warm up for a minute. Sitting in vehicle with front defrost turned on medium fan, 75 degrees settings. After a few minutes, while still in park, I heard the windshield crack and noticed that a 12-18 inch crack appeared from the bottom middle part of the windshield.

8 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/20/2022

The original windshield has a “rippling distortion” where the windshield has ripple/bubble from defective glass or installation mistakes, making seeing traffic signs or streets very hard. I just bought this vehicle and noticed the problem. It created poor road vision, especially at night. Toyota needs to recall and replace all these windshields before it causes more accidents due to poor visibility looking through the glass.

9 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/18/2022

At the beginning of this week, I was checking fluid levels and upon dropping my hood, I watched a crack in the windshield extend up from the base of the windshield. Then, while I was driving, I watched the crack extend and branch into a second crack. Upon further inspection, it appears cracking started under the windshield wiper and arched downward to the base of the windshield and another a new crack extend upward. I am the only person who drives this car. I do not park under a tree or anything that might fall on the windshield. I have not experienced any rocks hitting the windshield recently. I have not driven in the rain in several weeks. The only time the windshield wipers moved recently is when I cleaned my windshield over the weekend and lifted the wipers to reach underneath. Best as I can tell, the crack started due to the windshield wiper being picked up and let back down. This concerns me a great deal considering that is not a great amount of force.

10 Wiper problem of the 2012 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/30/2022

The front windshield wiper no longer performs on high but does perform on the lower settings. We experienced very heavy rain yesterday for the first time in a while and needed the high setting to adequately visualize the road and vehicles. It once switched to high the wipers were inoperable and had to be reduced in speed to even function. This is a significant safety concern as it drastically compromises your visibility in heavy rain conditions, such as those we experienced. Yes it is available for inspection upon request.

11 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 12/17/2021

Driving 60mph on highway and driver's side window spontaneously shattered and covered the driver, drive seat and floor, leaving only about 10 square inches that fell secondarily. There was no projectile that penetrated into the car at all, and no glass was projected over to passenger side as would be indicated if there had been a projectile.

12 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/20/2021

Moments ago, I entered my 2016 Toyota Prius to find that my windshield had mysteriously cracked while parked over night. The crack was not present when I last drove the car last night. Based on some online research for windshield replacement cost, I've learned that Toyota was faced with a class action lawsuit regarding 2016-17 Toyota Prius containing defective windshields; in which these windshields are known to unexpectedly crack while parked or under ordinary driving conditions. Furthermore, my Toyota Prius is equipped with safety features (such as pre-collision system, lane departure alert with steering assist, automatic high beams and full-speed dynamic radar cruise control) that require a front camera to function properly. The cracked windshield now interferes with the camera's visibility, line of sight and perceived orientation, thus causing me to feel unsafe while driving the vehicle. I am filing this compliant because I am now faced with not only an unsafe vehicle to operate, but also the cost to fix a windshield that is known to be defective from Toyota.

13 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 06/25/2021

Windshield cracked from bottom to top and across while sitting and there was no evidence of a rock or chip that would cause that. Air temp was about 95 degrees. No rain, no impact, car was sitting parked and not running.

14 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/29/2021

My windshield cracked for no reason, while it was parked. This is the second crack I gotten on my windshield from owning it for 2 years. This is highly unusual, I don't drive my car very far, and it happened while it was parked.

15 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/04/2021

My windshield has cracked twice without being struck by an object and without being near another vehicle. Both incidents occurred during normal highway driving. I was not speeding or driving recklessly. Both times required the replacement of the windshield as the crack quickly spread and affected a good portion of the windshield. I am requesting reimbursement for the cost of replacing the windshield (twice). The first incident occurred just a few days after purchase. The second incident occurred today, March 4, 2021.

16 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 08/22/2020

2016 Prius sitting in the driveway during a relatively hot day (~95 f temperature), appears to have a big crack. I looked it up and apparently Toyota is undergoing a class action lawsuit over the same issue. No outside damage to the windshield, the driver side window was down for the reason of the heat. Shame that this happened. Hopefully someone from the authority can help with this.

17 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/13/2020

For the second time in my ownership of this Toyota 2016 Prius, the windshield has cracked considerably due to tiny road debris making contact with it. I was driving along the highway when a small pebble from the road made contact with my windshield causing a crack which has grown in size and has snaked along my windshield considerably since the crack occurred earlier this week (7/13/2020). The total replacement of the windshield along with the calibration of the equipped ads camera system is very expensive, especially considering that this will be the second time that I must replace and re-calibrate. Although I would prefer to use a Toyota dealership, it would be very difficult for me to do so as the estimated cost is over $1k. With the current state of global affairs, no glass repair companies in my vicinity offer any oem windshields and they are heavily inundated with clients so the earliest that I could get a replacement service would be at the end of this month. I fear that the crack may fully spread across the windshield and that the integrity of the windshield may give. As a healthcare worker, I cannot afford to not use my vehicle.

18 Wiper problem of the 2014 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/07/2019

Windshield cracked from the side without provocation. Its possible a pebble caused it, but a very small pebble as I never heard any rocks hit the window.

19 Wiper problem of the 2008 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The dashboard lights go out, meaning you can no longer see the mph, the fuel, and everything important to drive with gauges. This can happen at anytime, driving or parked, on any street in any weather. Also note, you can no longer shut the car off, unless you hold the start button for 20 seconds. Sometimes the car will still not shut off, it's also sometimes hard to tell if the car is off, because there is no more dash. The only well to tell is to see if the radio goes on. There are a few ways to reset this major malfunction, to try and get things working again by disconnecting batteries, but this is a dangerous problem, that could kill someone while driving and needs attention and recalled soon as possible!.

20 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/29/2019

The car is inadequate in the winter. When it snows I can't keep the windows clean. They changed the fittings and I can't even put winter blades on the car. Also, and this applies to almost all new cars as well, the led lights freeze over. It's a safety hazard not to have lights that work. And it's a safety hazard to have to get out of the car in dangerous conditions to try and scrape ice off the windows and lights. The front and rear lights get caked with ice and snow. This picture is of my windshield after an hour of warming up. The wipers stay caked with ice. And when I turn them on, this is what happens. They smear the windshield with ice. They smear it with water too. I can't squeegee water with ice. I'd love to trade it in, but everyone has led lights. They're a safety hazard. And these issues are keeping me from buying a new car. I would appreciate it if you addressed these issues. The car companies won't listen to me. Thank you have a great day.

21 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/26/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2017 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving on the highway the wiper blade on the driver's side flew off in the middle of a rain storm. The contact pulled over and exited the highway and purchased a new wiper blade. The manufacturer stated that the contact had to use Toyota wiper blades even though the contact did not know where to purchase them. This was third time the blades flew off and now are zip tied to assure they stay on. The failure mileage was 40,000. Tf.

22 Wiper problem of the 2006 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

Both of my headlights went out at the same time the other day now the fact that both of them went out at the exact same time already tells me that its not the bulb, ballest or anything other then an electrical issue because everyone is having this problem and they have changed both ballasts and bulbs and the same thing happened over and over again, please make this a recall because it is very unsafe.

23 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/23/2019

Car was parked in parking lot in 100 degree temperature. Windshield had no damage whatsoever. Returned to car 4 hours later. Two and one-half foot crack, originating in bottom driver's side corner of windshield, appeared. No chips were present. Due to the crack, visibility through the windshield is compromised and poses a safety risk.

24 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 07/14/2019

One headlight on my car keeps shutting off, while the other is fine. I am able to "fix" the issue by turning my headlights off and then turning them on again. Dealers initially told me it was because the bulb burned out, but I replaced both at the same time, and it's always the driver's side bulb that "burns out. " upon further review on public forums, it appears the bulb is perfectly fine and there's some type of electrical issue/connection problem that causes problems with the bulb. This happens when the vehicle is on and in-motion on any street.

25 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 05/30/2019

I have a 2016 Prius with approximately 20,000 miles that was pursued new from the dealership in Nov 2016. At around 10:30am, I was two blocks from home, driving on a residential street (25mph) and decelerated to approx 10mph as I approached a red stoplight at the oncoming intersection. Cross traffic was moving but there were no other cars in the lanes left or right of me and/or approaching my car. I heard a very faint click/popping sound coming from the upper right upside of the windshield and immediately pulled over to examine the glass. I found a very small star shaped ding, less than a millimetre wide about 3-4 inches from the top right of the windshield. I then called my insurance agent who stated a small ding like that could definitely be fixed by a glass shop and would be covered in full by allstate. I decided to just go back home and look online for somewhere nearby I could take in my car. I drove back, parked my car back into my underground temperature controlled space. I wasn't able to get a same day appointment so stayed in until 5:30pm when I left to go to dinner. I was shocked to see that the small ding was now a large diagonal crack from the upper left corner, to just past midpoint of the windshield. Because of the crack, the windshield can not be fixed. I was told that replacement and recalibration will cost approx just under $1000, which I will end up paying out of pocket because my insurance deductible is $1000. Has now been 8 days since the initial ding and the crack has continued to elongate. It is now 2/3 of the length of the windshield. I have owned eight Toyota vehicles, three of which have been new Priuses. This is the first and only car where anything like this has ever happened. It appears that many other 2015-2016 Prius owners have experienced similar problems with their windshields too. Toyota must address this safety issue,.

26 Wiper problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/09/2019

I purchased a 2010 Toyota Prius, within a month I had to replace the fuel pump sensor (after it went out on the highway and the car died while driving it). Then 6 weeks after purchase I was driving down the highway again and the hood ripped up completely shattering the windshield while driving. I later learned both safety's on the hood latch were broken and missing parts. It also has an oil leak that will cost me $2,200 to repair when I only paid $6,000 for the car on top of many other minor issues.

27 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 04/03/2019

While driving on the freeway, the sunroof glass exploded. Fortunately, we were not injured since the sunroof was closed. I noted that there were many similar reports. Surprised this was not a recall action.

28 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

With no impact whatsoever, and the car parked and stationary for more than 15 hours, I woke up this morning to find a crack in the front windshield. This crack is in the lower, middle section of the front windshield, generating up from the base of the windshield, and veering towards the left. There is absolutely no feeling of an impact (I. E. Scratch, dent, ping, etc. ) on either the outside of the windshield or the inside of the windshield - it appears that the crack is embedded in the glass itself. I have contacted my local Toyota dealer and will be bringing it in for their inspection this week. However, in my online research, it seems that there have been a number of 2016 Toyota Prius' that have had this mysterious front windshield crack occur - enough to make me wonder if there is something wrong with the factory-provided windshield, and that would possibly warrant a recall. Thank you for your consideration.

29 Wiper problem of the 2010 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 01/14/2019

Headlight would burn out a year after replacement. Manufacturer issued a variant of a recall intending to provide a fix for high rate of burnout. I took my car in to a dealership to receive the fix and the dealership caused a problem with the front windshield wiper apparatus. Wipers would now work if the headlights were off, but would no longer work once the headlights were turned on. This would occur whether stationary or moving.

30 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

The windshield on my 2016 Toyota Prius cracked for no reason. I parked my Prius in a covered parking garage. When I returned to my car later, there was a large crack in the windshield (over a foot long), and the crack curved down to the bottom of the windshield. I don't know what caused the windshield to crack all of a sudden. There were no signs of debris or impact. I believe the windshield maybe defective or was set on my car improperly in the factory, which caused stress on the windshield which led to the large crack.

31 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

There is something wrong with the windshield design of the car. I had debris or road gravel hitting the windshield twice in last 2 months and got a crack on windshield in 2 occasions. I was driving car at 65 mph on highway in both instances. I also realize a flaw with wiper design that the wipers do no clear the full wind shield. This reduces visibility specially winter when there is lot of salt and snow on roads.

32 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

While on my morning commute on the freeway the moonroof unexpectedly exploded showering fragments of glass into the vehicle. One shard actually splintered into my finger requiring medical attention I have numerous pictures on my phone.

33 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/22/2018

We parked the car and went for a hike. Upon returning to the car, we noticed a foot long crack had formed in the windshield. It does not appear to be connected to any chips or damage to the windshield.

34 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

Last year,June 2017, while the car was parked we noticed there was a hairline crack on the windshield. We received some quotes saying it would be about $900 to fix. So we decided to go with an adhesive injection and paid about $50 for someone to come fix it. However, after a month, it spread. We had no choice but to replace the windshield. Last month, same thing happened. Car was parked, nothing hit it. Same hairline crack. I haven't fixed it because of the heavy expense. But it has spread. Checked online to see if anyone else has the same issue and found there's a class action lawsuit for this but it's for 2014-2016 Toyota Prius. Apparently they have not fixed this problem for the 2017 Prius. Also, there's a recall for my car for another issue.

35 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Prius

Failure Date: 09/03/2018

In motion on a highway. Windshield got hit by a ?rock? and had a small star. Within days it has grown to cover the entire windshield in several different patterns. Windshield is total loss and needs to be replaced.
