In at least 5 or more instances the vehicle has had unintended acceleration and thrust the car forward while I was braking and trying to come to a stop. Once it happened at a 4-way intersection and propelled my car into the middle of the intersection and I had to swerve to avoid a head-on collision with another car. I , or the other driver, could have been killed. In all cases the braking failed to stop the car and in fact sped it up even though the brakes were applied.
The fuel pump entire system failed. I have a receipt of $731. 50 to have it fixed. I was stranded coming off belt parkway in new york city, I feared for my car as the cars came flying off of the exit ramp. The Toyota company has sent recalls on most of their fuel pumps except my 2013 Toyota Rav4. All of my alerts went on immediately but then the car just stopped and I managed to coast to the off the ramp. There were no warnings but when I looked up Toyota recalls the main problem is their fuel pump injectors in most of their cars and I had no knowledge of this.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Toyota rav-4. The contact stated the while the vehicle was parked, the contact stated they notice smoke coming from underneath the hood from the engine. The contact got out the vehicle. And called 911. It caught on fire. No one was injured during the fire. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. There was no warning light illuminated from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed by insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000. Vw.
Give hight starting.
Driving my 2013 Toyota Rav4ev when the vehicle shifted into neutral and would not shift back to drive and lost power while driving on the freeway at 70 mph. Lucky to be able to pull over to the side of the freeway. There was a message in the display of "check ev system. Have your vehicle checked by dealership immediately".
While backing up, vehicle accelerated rapidly hitting a parked vehicle doing much damage. Wife driving many years, never hitting accelerator when she met to hit the brakes. Do not know why rapid acceleration occurred. Has not happened moving forward.

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,000.
On rare occasions when driving, I will suddenly lose power. It's as if someone has suddenly turned off the ignition switch. Depressing the gas pedal will not solve the problem. The only way to regain power is to take your foot off the gas pedal and then push down again to regain speed. It can occur at any time on flat roads, hills, snow or rain covered, there seems to be no reason for this. The Toyota dealer says he can't solve the problem unless I can duplicate the problem for him so he can see for himself what is happening & then solve the problem. But I can't duplicate the problem! it's totally random. This puts me literally on pins & needles when I drive because what happens if I am passing a car and suddenly I lose power? I have 20000 miles on my vehicle and loss of power has occured maybe 20 times. This is very frustrating and dangerous.
Unintended acceleration. I was pulling into park at work with my foot on the brake (fortunately) and the Rav4 suddenly accelerated.
I leased a Rav4ev. Went to pick it up on Thursday (8/8/13) and it wouldn't start-- check ev system, etc. Dealer gave me a loaner, it spent the day in the service dept, and they wound up updating the software & it apparently was ok. Brought the car home on Friday. On Sunday, 8/11/13, the entire system turned off while I was driving on the freeway-- engine stopped, power steering stopped, and I was luckily able to negotiate across 4 lanes of traffic and get off of the road. Check ev system message on screen, battery is still half full. It was towed to the dealer, 120 miles on the odometer. It was found that the propulsion system and the gateway ecu were faulty. I decided not to keep that car and leased another Rav4 ev. Very scary!.
