1 Assist problem of the 2025 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/14/2026

This 2025 Rav4 will randomly move or jerk to the left while driving straight. It does not matter where you are in relation to the center of the lane. Sometime the movement is gentile and other time it is very strong bordering on violent. It will do the same thing with the lane keeping assistance, and pre-collision warning active or disabled. This issue could cause an accident if the jerky movement happened at the wrong time with another car alongside or approaching from the opposite direction. The movement has pushed me across the line a couple of times and it has happened at 15 mph all the way up to 65mph. The dealer did an alignment which did not change the problem. Now they want $425 to recalibrate the forward camara which 'might correct the issue'. This could get very expensive very fast when it should be covered under warranty. There are no warning lamps or messages to indicate the problem. This is a dangerous issue not just an inconvenience.

3 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/17/2025

I was involved in an accident on the interstate traveling at about 80 mph and I hit a guard rail. I swerved, and then the lane assistance kicked in and made me lose control of the car completely, which is how I slammed into the guard rail. In that process, none of the airbags deployed and I had a passenger in the car.

4 Assist problem of the 2023 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/30/2025

This vehicle is going to kill someone. Not only does it have this unintentional steering issue, but the electrical system keeps going out. The dash has been replaced and there are still issues. The adaptive cruise control used to hard brake now it pulsates when lane changing which isn’t cool if you’re passing people because then you’re turn in front of them and braking right away. The radio requires the vehicle to be turned completely off, wait, and then turn back on. The unintended steering will take you into incoming traffic, in the opposite lane, or even off-roading even when there is nothing in front of you. The compass randomly disappears. The tim roof literally exploded while we were doing 80mph down the interstate. The curtain was closed or we would have had glass all over. The window blew out and up. If something hit the window it would have blown in and down. I have reported these safety issues to Toyota and they keep telling me that nothing is wrong. The steering issue has happened at least 7 times since I owned it. I have provided Toyota with pictures and videos showing these things and they’re still telling me that nothing is wrong but they even have a form that talks about the “unintended steering” issue.

6 Assist problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green and I pressed the gas, the engine sputtered and almost shut off. Just before I came to a stop, the engine revved up and the vehicle accelerated. The uneven acceleration is concerning. I recently replaced the gas cap and serviced the fuel system, which leads me to believe there is a defect with the engine. Later in the day, the check engine light went on and awd system, cruise control, and lane assist were disabled.

7 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/14/2024

On February 14, 2024, I was driving to pick up a friend who needed a ride to an appointment. I had the lane correction feature on while I was driving on the interstate. When I exited the interstate, I traveled on a two-lane road that becomes narrow as it travels along a downhill slope. This road has a steep ravine on the right side of the road caused by rainwater runoff. There are reflector signs cemented into the road along the steep drop off. Because there was no oncoming traffic, I crossed the center line avoiding getting too close to the edge. When I did so, the lane correction feature activated, pulling the car hard into the signs along the road. As a result, the entire right side of the car received extensive damage. I was fortunate not to have lost control of the vehicle and gone through the signs into the ditch. My first reaction was to think that I had lost a wheel or had a tire blow out for the car to have jerked so hard to the right. When I stopped, I saw that this was not the case. I have since read that there have been many instances where the auto lane correction has caused other accidents like mine, some of which have been more severe. It is unfortunate that I have the inconvenience of getting the damages fixed and an accident being reflected in my insurance as a result. However, I feel fortunate that I was driving the car and not one of my children who may have lost control. I am glad the signs were securely installed to keep me from rolling into the ditch. I feel most blessed that nobody was injured. What if I had swerved to avoid a person walking on the road instead of the signs posted there? there was not a police report taken on this accident. It was reported to the dealer and insurance company who referred me to caliber collision for repairs where it is currently. There were no warning lights prior to the incident.

8 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

While waiting at a red light with my car stationary, the lane I occupied divided into two. I gently adjusted my steering wheel to the left, and in an unexpected turn of events, a dashboard indicator illuminated before my steering wheel rapidly veered to the right. This abrupt motion resulted in a collision with another vehicle, causing damage to both cars. Despite my attempts to avert the situation, my right thumb became trapped in the wheel, leading to a fracture. Shortly after the accident, the dashboard and multimedia system displayed multiple malfunctions: a vsc, trac, or hill start assist control system malfunction, a rear cross traffic alert malfunction, lta malfunction, and a pksb malfunction, all prompting a visit to the dealer. Upon contacting Toyota, they offered no assistance, asserting that the incident occurred at an approximate speed of 22 miles per hour due to data from the edr. However, this contradicted the facts as my vehicle was stationary at a red light. The explanations provided by Toyota's representative, alexis turner, appeared inconsistent with the circumstances.

9 Assist problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/05/2023

My power steering fails due to low voltage, even while I'm traveling at high rates of speed.

10 Assist problem of the 2022 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/23/2022

Above checked adas items don't work appropriately, and can't relay on them all the time. Apart from that my Toyota Rav4 moon roof shield couldn't be able to withstand for the wind during raining when the vehicle speed was at 75mph on highway I-35 in oklahoma. The glass busted completely, and those glass particles causes inconvenience to the other vehicle on the high way. I reported this incident to the car dealer but they were so rude to me, and said that car is not designed for the 75mph speed. Ended up convincing myself that Rav4 is not safe to drive anymore.

11 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/19/2022

I have reported this issue to brunswick Toyota service advisors twice. The lane keep assist will pull and yank all over the lane. This is an SUV and it is a very scary experience feeling a taller vehicle make quick adjustments and almost feel as if the steering wheel is going to be yanked out of your hands. This will happen at all speeds cruise control and lane keep are active. Both times the service advisors advised me that I should just turn it off because that is what most people do. I did not buy a car with this feature to turn it off. The 2nd time I was advised I would be contacted by someone to schedule an appointment to have it looked at, no one ever contacted me. There are multiple reports of other people experiencing the same sharp adjustments and unable to keep in it's lane and this needs to be investigated. Thank you.

13 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/04/2021

We bought our new 2021 Toyota Rav4 hybrid on sept. 1, 2021, but didn't drive it on a highway until oct. 4, 2021. On that day, I was driving on interstate hwy 70. I entered that highway near copper mountain, CO and was driving east to return to denver. It is a big highway with wide, well marked lanes. I set my cruise control speed to 63 mph. Almost immediately, I noticed that the lane centering steering adjustment system seemed to be taking the car from close to the left lane line to close to the right lane line, and back and forth. A couple of times, it even drifted to or over the lane line and triggered the land departure alert alarm. At first, I tried to overcome the automated lane centering adjustment by manually steering against it, but the swaying back and forth across the lane became increasingly wide and violent. I was unable to control it. It was terrifying. For a moment, I was sure that I would crash. I don’t know if I hit the brake pedal, but I did quickly press the cancel button on the cruise control, and that ended the swaying back and forth. The whole experience lasted probably less than one minute, and at no time did I notice any alarms or warning signals. I took the car to my dealership and asked them to check the functioning and settings of the cruise control and lane tracing assist functions. They told me that my settings were normal and that everything was working properly. I informed Toyota customer service about the problem and told them of my near crash. They consulted with my dealership's service department and repeated that everything was working properly. Neither the dealer nor Toyota customer service offered any explanation of reasons for my near crash. I have continued to drive the car, but I have tried to disable all the "safety" features that allow the car to take control of my steering. I am afraid to try to reproduce the problem myself, and I am quite sure that my dealer did not attempt to do that either.

14 Assist problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/02/2021

The car simply a lemon big time was bought on 08/2020 thru the santa monica city Toyota dealers. . . They are awful too. Let my dad, 80, buy all extra insurances when its brand new car and has 3 years bumper to bumper warranty. He and me his daughter that is dedicated driver sometimes keep complain that its get bazuka after 35--39 and move up miles per hours, power steering wheel out of control basically. Can be turn 65 to 90 degree angle without even sorry to say spitting on it. . . , the ugly safety feature that will help you to change the lane on freeway, we wouldn't even will be mentioning that. I think its million dollars case here as a lemon law against Toyota corporation.

15 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/30/2021

New 2021toyota rave4 vehicle would take over steering and turn left or right from the center of the lane. This issue would consistently steer you to a road shoulder or into another lane. A less experienced driver would have crashed. The steering pull is so significant that one is unable to take a drink or turn on the radio without the possibility of an accident. The last incident steered me into the path of a cement truck nearly causing an accident. Had I not been extra cautious, an accident would have occurred. The "vehicle is operating as designed" and "some customers are overly sensitive to the safety features" was the conclusion of vancouver wa Toyota service and advised to return the vehicle when an incident reoccurs. I insisted the next incident could kill someone. Service spoke to someone and apologized that in fact a past tech bulletin (2019-2021) was released by Toyota addressing this issue. Service obtained a video from the vehicle and confirmed my complaint that the steering had indeed hijacked the vehicle and steered into the path of a cement truck. My concern of serious bodily injury or death is substantiated and documented by vancouver wa Toyota and Toyota corporation. Respectfully leonard yee 9165243335 leonardyee@att. Net.

17 Assist problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/30/2021

I bumped the car in front of me when starting from a red light at an intersection. Impact speed was less than 3 mph. The damage from this impact resulted in repair cost of almost $4,200. This is outrageous and an example of poor design on the part of Toyota. It is my understanding that the standards require vehicles to absorb up to 5 mph frontal impact with no damage. Had I known this vehicle was so poorly protected I would have chosen to purchase something else.

18 Assist problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/30/2021

Car was on cruise control, due to a car in front, it was driving 10 mile below the cruise control speed. A new car came in between my car and the previous car in front, my car started speeding up suddenly. I hit the break and canceled cruise control immediately to prevent crash. This has happened at least 6 times do far. Only seem to happen rarely when some new object comes in between.

19 Assist problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/14/2021

Accidentally turned on lka. At freeway speeds up to 70mph steering pulled to right. Had to keep tension on steering wheel to keep vehicle centered in lane. Then steering would quit pulling and vehicle would go to left. Had to keep fighting steering to keep vehicle centered in lane. Lka warning kept beeping. Researched problem on line. Looked in owners manual and made sure lka was turned off. This was a big annoyance for me but I was able to keep control of vehicle. This could be a major problem for someone else, though.

20 Assist problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/06/2021

When the feature is engaged, the car changes lanes. Had it inspected and adjusted by the dealer. Dealer said "if I don't like the feature, turn it off" so I do not use this "safety" feature as it would cause me to have an accident. I've only turned it on when I can do so safely without someone near me to show. Feature is only engaged over 35 mph so when I am on the highway.

21 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/28/2021

Vehicle battery completely dead after only 3 days of not being driven. Vehicle would not start and could not be jump started. Vehicle is only 2 months old. Wireless charging does not charge consistently. Intermittent connection only and gets very hot. Usb phone connection randomly disconnects and reconnects. Occasionally the voice command prompt on center control is activated and stays connected when connecting a phone through usb and cannot exit to see information display. Remote start from fob will not work. Lane departure system too sensitive and takes over steering of car causing countersteering from driver control.

22 Assist problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/15/2021

New vehicle brought in for it's 5k maintenance, to the service department of the dealership it was purchased from. I pointed out several issues with the gas tank range, bsm, camera shutting off, and that I have to keep the stearing wheel turned to the right in order to go straight. 5k maintenance is performed, they noticed the car needed to be realigned. Driving home, no difference from when first brought in. Bring it in to the dealership next day, the day after, I'am notified that the car is ready for pick up, I ask were if they were able to find what caused the aglinment to go out a second time. There response is that there was no indication of what caused it. Inform them that 1. I'am concerned for my safety and 2. The long term damage this is causing. They inform me that they will look into the process, and have management involved. Next day, manager informs me that the aglinment machine was out of calibration, he had to stop a technician from working on the car, had the machine calibrated, and that he personally performed the alginment. I pick up the car and the steering wheel has to be turned to the left to go straight on the highway at 35-45mph, slowing down/stopping & acclerating. Bring it in next day, manger has 3 alginments performed to see if there are any variations, tells me everything is in spec. It is so perfect they didnt even have to take a wrench to it. Reassures me numerous times that it is safe and in spec, hands me a paper "proving" so. Drive home, steering wheel is still to the left. I look at the paper and it clearly lists 3 values that are marked as not within spec, and that it may cause wear, handling and safety issues. Car is towed to a different dealership. During there test drive the tech noticed the wheel was jerking to the left without warning. Was informed that the stearing wheel needed a software update & the algiment is out of spec.

23 Assist problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

I have had a number of instances where my vehicle's lane keep assist will randomly jerk me out of my lane. In sept 2020 I experienced a significant event of this happening when I was driving in the right lane of an interstate and the vehicle jerked right suddenly, pulling the vehicle into the right shoulder and almost drove me off the interstate. Another significant instance happened on 1/23/2021. I was driving northbound on I-44 and I was in the middle of 3 lanes. My vehicle suddenly jerked the vehicle to the left into the left lane of traffic. Luckily, the vehicle next to me swerved onto the shoulder thinking I was going to hit them. There have been other regular incidents of this happening, but not as severe as these two.

24 Assist problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/21/2021

This vehicle has intermittent operation of its lane keep assistance. One activated, it regularly will do the opposite of keeping your lane. It has run me off the road and also into the lane of oncoming traffic. I have reported to the dealer but they couldn't replicate it. I have escalated to the dealer as this happens very frequently and is in safe. Upon activation of the lta, it turns the steering wheel approx 15- 20 degrees and immediately takes you out of the lane. The lane departure system kicks in and then tries to bring you back and this goes on and on with clearly marked lanes. If I didn't apply quite a bit of force to prevent the departure I could have well been an incident. The vehicle was in motion, going down a well marked interstate highway, night and day time, no rain or snow/ice. The vehicle recognized the lane departure (beeps) but it was the vehicles system that drove the car out of the lane (with my hands on the wheel of course). A video can be shared upon request.
