As my daughter was driving down the freeway, for no apparent reason, the moonroof shattered. This seems to be a reoccurring problem with this particular car. Toyota needs to address this, now!.

3 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

The temperature was about 50 degrees and sunny I had just left church services so the car had been sitting out in the parking lot for about 4 hours. I was in the car doing about 40 mph and I heard a pop-like that of a champagne bottle- and what sounded like sand on the floor. I looked around to make sure a bug or reptile hadn't gotten into my car. I didn't think anything about it. This morning 12/3/2014 temperature around 43 degrees and noticed that my glass wind deflector what shattered around the edges. I've never had any issues with the car and I live in a gate community so I didn't think that it was an act of vandalism. I spent 3 years in alaska and I know what frozen glass could do if exposed to direct extreme heat. This was not the case. I am looking into getting it replaced but judging from the forums and this site doesn't seem like Toyota will cover my 2007 Scion Tc which I think is a very dishonorable thing to do. Many tc owners are having a time with vehicles that have incurred this issue that they didn't cause and couldn't prevent.

5 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 04/05/2014

When I returned to my car that had been parked for approximately three hours, I found that the deflector was raised and the sunroof was entirely shattered. The "legs" of the deflector appeared to have broken through the glass, as the sunroof was severely cracked and broken along each of its four edges. I had not used the sunroof prior to parking my car that morning. Upon reading similar complaints, I do recall also having heard an extremely loud pop while driving, but the sunroof did not shatter until some time after while the car was parked.

6 Wiper problem of the 2010 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 11/14/2013

On 11/14/13 I was travelling north on interstate 75 in troy, michigan at a rate of 68 mph when at approximately 8:15 a. M. I heard a loud shattering noise. I immediately pulled onto the shoulder of the highway. I looked around my vehicle to find each of my side, rear, and front windows intact. I then pulled back the sunroof cover, only to have shards of glass fall on me. I discovered a large whole in the center of my sunroof window. I exited the car to examine the damage from the outside. Upon further inspection I discovered that despite having the sunroof in the fully closed position the wind deflector shield had popped up and the arms that attached the glass to the sliding track had broken off. Additionally, the glass was bowed outwards, with the majority of the broken glass underneath the wind deflector shield instead of inside of the vehicle. The fracturing pattern and break locations were indicative of a structural pressure break and not an impact break. Toyota denied any problems with the Scion Tc and insisted that the break had to have occurred from an impact. The weather that day was clear and 33° f at the time of the break with clear skies. I was on an open road with no nearby overpasses.

7 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 07/19/2013

I was driving back from work going around 60 mph on the highway, and heard loud bang like a gunshot. First I thought that one of my tires has hit on something and exploded but then I felt something falling from the roof and I managed to pull over right away. When I got out of the car I saw my moon roof shattered in pieces. There wasn't any debrief on the road or any small rocks that could've hit the roof and shattered it. The bang was very loud and very disturbing and I hope this can be investigated and prevented in the future.

8 Wiper problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

While driving down the road at about 10-15 mph (going very slowly because it was a dirt road), I heard an extremely loud pop which sounded like a gunshot. Immediately stopping to inspect, I discovered that the moonroof had shattered completely. The webbing of the broken glass was more clearly visible from the inside than the outside. There was absolutely no sign of any impact. No other cars were around anywhere and nothing that could have hit the glass. As I countinued to drive home, the pieces began to fall into the back passenger seat and finally the whole thing started to fall inside. I called a local Toyota dealership and they told me a glass replacement would be $1158. 00. I had previously noticed that in my daily driving, whenever the car structure flexed in any way (as in on uneven terrain and sometimes even on highway or interstate driving), I would occasionally hear popping sounds as if there was some type of strain on the frame. I suspect some type of manufacturer defect, especially since I see that other people have experienced the same type problem with the moonroof or sunroof exploding without cause. On a different note, the rear hatch lift keeps falling off. In calling Toyota to complain about the moonroof issue, I was informed that they did issue a warranty enhancement for the hatch lift. I had received no information in the mail about the enhancement, but the representative said it must be because the vehicle was still registered under the previous owner in their system. Don't know how that happened since we purchased from a dealership and have the title.

9 Wiper problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

While driving at highway speeds (65 mph), I heard a loud "pop" followed by glass raining down around me. I pulled over and examined my car to find the perimeter of the sunroof entirely missing and the interior portion of the sunroof shattered. There were large chunks of glass inside the car along with pieces of metal. The sunroof was open at the time. The temperature was in the low 70s. There were no overpasses nor were there any trucks around me. There was no impact mark on the glass to indicate road debris.
