I was driving down the freeway going 65 mph. All of the sudden I heard a really loud gunshot sound and then the middle of the sunroof exploded. All the windows, including the sunroof, were closed. I only had the visor open; when the glass broke, I had glass in my hair and all down my back. When the sunroof broke, the front piece of the sunroof flipped open as well. Looks like some took their fist and hit the sunroof from the inside of the car. The right side of my ear still hurts from the sound of the gun shot sound. My car is currently with the dealership for them to inspect it. When I called the dealership and scion corp office, they both said they have never heard of this happening on this vehicle. I find this very hard to believe as there are hundreds of postings online stating that this is becoming more and more of an issue. I thank god that my 4 year son wasn't with me at the time as glass would have gone all over him. I want scion to pay for this damage as this is a huge safety issue. I could have caused an accident or even have killed myself as glass went everywhere. Does someone need to be killed in order for someone to look at this issue? thank you in advance for your time and help with this matter.

Driving down roadway and all of the sudden and without any warning the sunroof exploded covering me and the vehicle with glass cutting your arms and I started bleeding everywhere.
Driving 70 mph on the highway, no vehicles within sight in front of me, and no one to the side. My Scion Tc sunroof exploded. It was louder than a shotgun. I almost swerved off the road it scared me that bad. This was not the wind deflector it was the sunroof itself. I was doing some investigating and I know this has happened to others just by looking on a forum. I don't have a repair cost yet or even know if Toyota is going to cover it.
My 2006 Scion Tc was sitting at a stop sign (with the sun roof down. ) and while I was sitting there the very front piece that raises up just cracked out of nowhere. Bits of glass and stuff started falling into the car.
Sun-roof shattered while driving on tollway! this was possibly due to debris that may have hit it from the road. Went for recall on wind-breaker, but this issue hasn't been resolved with the sunroof! this is clearly a manufacturer defect and another source for a liability for Toyota.
I took the car out to my friend's house. I parked the car, went into the house. I stayed for about four hours and went to go leave and noticed glass all over the place. I went to my car and realized that the sunroof had exploded. Two of the metal bars popped off along with most of the glass. The remaining glass was spidered. I saw the car at approximatly one hour before it happened and it was fine. Because of the location of the car and the house and the people in the house I am 100% sure that nobody tampered with my car. The shade on the interior was closed and you could see that the glass exploded from the inside out. I am sure this was a defect in the sunroof.
-driving s on 101 near calabasis Dec 9, 2007 approx. 4:35pm -approx. 65 mph approaching 405 in middle lane -sunshade in closed position -moon-roof in ?vent? position (front lowered; back raised for airflow) -3-4 car lengths between each car (front and back) -without warning or incident, incredibly loud bang sound; like a gunshot -looked up and saw shattered glass through vent slits in closed shade -other cars noticed as well, and backed off -slowed to 45 mph and exited to nearest exit; went to calabasas Volvo dealership and was helped by sales people. -Volvo of calabasas -- stephen (sales manager) voluntary witness -they applied tape to secure remaining glass and vacuumed shards (a lot) from recessed moonroof area (and track) -entire perimeter of the moon-roof glass had shattered away. -single large chunk (approx. 6x3 inches) in shade; none made it into passenger cabin. -moon-roof glass continued to ?crackle? and ?pop? for several hours afterwards -continued drive home -no debris whatsoever before the incident -previously had reported a blemish in the moon-roof. -took back to dealership and said they ?buffed it out? and that it ?took a lot of pressure. . . But I got it out. ? -still in progress with dealership, power scion in irvine, California 949-768-0688 and they have been extremely difficult, and resistant to be helpful. They?ve been trying to get me to pay for my own rental car.

I was driving on an interstate highway at approximately 60 mph with all the windows closed, including the sunroof. Both the sunroof had the shades pulled as well. The outside temperature was about 85 degrees, and the a/c was running in the car. Suddenly, I heard an extremely loud pop which sounded like a gun shot. Seconds later, I heard bits of glass bouncing down the back of the car. I opened the shade of the sun oof only slightly enough to see that the entire sun roof shattered and as I drove, chunks of the glass were flying off the car. When I was able to pull off and assess the window it almost appeared as if it had been hit from the inside. The glass around the entire portion of the window was broken and pulling away from the sides and it puckered up toward the center of the window. This was an extremely distracting incident, and potentially dangerous. I was lucky to have the shades pulled so that the glass did not fall into the car. We had previously taken the car to dealer to have the deflector shield treated because of the recall.
Looping to the ramp around 40 mph entering freeway, sunroof shattered due to the side metal frame that was attached/glued to the glass gave in and the sunroof was not even opened. Brought to dealership, took pictures of the shattered sunroof and sent to manufacturer. Next day, Toyota said it was a road hazard. I told them how could that be if the side metal frame gave in and they know there was no evidence of any materials or rock that hits the sunroof.
While driving under normal conditions on I-85 south in concord, nc, main sun roof glass shattered without warning, causing shattered glass pieces to enter interior of car, and distracting driver to nearly causing crash.

Around 5:40 am I was driving on the highway to work on a clear day at 60 mph I had the a/c on and the front window cracked. When all a sudden I heard a pop from the sun roof, and the sound of glass shattering. I had no idea what happened. I luckily had the cover pulled closed so the glass pieces didn't fall on my head. I took picture of the damage. Also, I was not going under an under pass. I just don't see how a rock big enough could of hit it without me seeing it. Something needs to be done about these sun roofs before someone gets hurt.
The contact owns a 2006 Scion Tc. The mileage was 19839. Whild driving during wet road conditions at 65 mph she heard a loud popping sound. Stopped the vehicle to find out where the noise was coming from and observed that the sunroof had shattered. The dealer stated that an object hit the sunroof which caused it to shatter. The driver has pictures of the damaged sunroof. The driver stated that the sunroof wind deflector was the reason for the failure. The current and failure mileage was 19,839.
Driving on a sunny day without a car around, sunroof shattered and covered the interior with glass. The sunroof windshield was previously fixed as part of the recall. Both the sunroof and rails were destroyed. Toyota did not pay for repair.
- the contact stated while driving driving at 25 mph, heard a loud noise. She realized the sun roof shattered ,and the two sun roof side bars broke off. The contact did not notice any rocks that could have caused the failure. Per the contact, the Toyota dealer said it looked like the su nroof had exploded. She did not have a repair invoice, but had the two side bars from the sun roof.
I was driving north on garden state parkway at about 70 mph in my 06 Scion Tc when my moon roof exploded. All windows (including the moon roof) were closed at the time. The moon roof completely failed (falling glass debris) in a half moon shape in the middle front. The wind deflector popped up but was not damaged. Glass blew violently throughout the inside of the car and I almost lost control since traffic was busy tonight. Paint finish on trunk and rear bumper was blasted by the debris. Car is currently sitting at gateway Toyota (toms river, NJ).
Moonroof has shattered for second time. Dealer/Toyota would not replace per warranty. Vehicle was brought in for recall approx. June 2006. There were no problems prior and glass was fine before recall. Moonroof has shattered twice since recall with no noticeable impact. Recall fix/material is unsafe as shattering glass may injure driver and or passenger.
I was driving on the highway 5:30 pm on Dec 7. The rear moon roof of my 2005 Scion Tc shattered with a loud "bang"while I was driving. The glass shattered uniformly through out the entire window. I stopped and inspected the glass and did not find any noticeable impact chips or points. The glass fell in to the passenger area over the following several days. (photos were taken prior falling).
The wind deflector for my sunroof on my 2006 Scion Tc was shattered on sept 22, 2006 1) I was driving with my sunroof open on the street (no freeway). I closed the roof and went into work. At lunch time I made several stops (never opening the sunroof) and after coming back from the last store, I found the wind deflector shattered. I never heard anything hit my car. I did have the recall laminate in place but there was glass shards and pieces from the edges and the bottom. Both dealers I went to cannot tell how the damage happened since the whole thing is shattered. There is no sign of a rock hitting it. 2) I cannot open sunroof or window for fear more glass will break off into my car. 3) I have gone to 2 dealerships (Toyota) and both told me to that my insurance will have to pay for the damage. Part has to be ordered through deal only. The first dealer was not helpful and even told me any glass place could replace which turned out to not be true. I am in the process of getting my insurance to pay for repair so I am still driving around with shattered glass (at least the 2nd dealer taped it so I don't lose a lot more glass).
I was driving my Scion Tc in a normal fashion on the interstate when my glass sunroof shattered unexpectedly. My insurance is covering the cost, the dealer is waiting for the check to order the parts. Previously my glass wind deflector has shattered also.
