1 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

I drive a 2005 Scion Xb, about two weeks ago the back hatch handle broke of, where the light shine to the license plate. I know that there was a recall on the handle like three years ago. . . I called Toyota to see if the recall was expired, they don't see a recall ever been done. I do see this as a safety do to lighting and electrical. I know this has been an issue with other scion like the one I have. Some did get a recall and got fixed.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/05/2014

I was driving at 20mph off a ramp onto another road and the steering locked up and I had to jam on my brakes to stop my car fast or the car would have went off the side down a hill and crashed. Thank god I was not going fast or I wouldn't be here. That was the first time here we go again 2nd time after I fix it replaced the steering computer behind the steering wheel under the dash, worked great for about a day,now I start the car the power steering light on dash comes on I put the car in drive and the light goes out but I have steering. Put the car in neutral light comes on,put the car in reverse light goes out. Im so pissed off about this I still owe money on this car and nothing but trouble. What kind of cars do Toyota sell. They should pay for these steering problems not me. There should be a recall before someone gets killed.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

After a snowstorm, my abs, vsc, stability control and traction control lights came on. Stayed on. Took to mechanic, they went out. He suspects ice build up. Ran scan. It shows right rear wheel sensor problem. Lights come on intermittently. Son's car is in shop for gm ignition recall for over a month now. So he drove my scion to college. Called me and said lights were on again. I called mechanic, he feels it could be wheel bearing or speed sensor in that wheel, either rust or corrosion due to intermittent lights. He checked it again. Now vsc and traction lights are on anytime car is drive. I am taking it in today for wheel bearing replacement. After reading multiple complaints on this site, I am very upset and disappointed in what I thought was my dream car!!! Toyota needs to issue a recall and fix this problem immediately!.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Xb

By 2011, both back windows inoperable (motor burned out due to electrical issues) and I am having issues with the air conditioning and electrical dash display. The dealer (avenues Toyota in jacksonville, FL) said there are no recalls and instructed me to call Toyota directly about the problem. The dealer wants to charge me $500 each to replace the motor in both back windows and claims there are no issues that they are aware of at this time. I found numerous claims on the internet to substantiate that this is not an isolated case and the electrical issues extend throughout the Toyota line during the time the vehicle was manufactured.

Finally, the driver's door has on three occasions, locked me in, forcing me to roll down the window and use my key to get out of the vehicle. 22 Electrical System problem of the 2004 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

While driving posted speed on interstate 71 southbound from cleveland towards columbus ohio, my car downshifted by itself and kept slowing down. I was able to get on the shoulder of the freeway when I noticed that the car had stalled. I attempted to restart the car. It would crank normally but would not start. I checked all the fluids, they were at operating levels. I performed a visual check under the car and hood for fluid leaks. There were none. I called a nearby (40 miles) Toyota dealer who dispatched a tow truck to pick us up and bring the car to their repair center in delaware ohio. This occurred yesterday afternoon, and as of this writing all they at byers Toyota, suspect is a possible ecm failure. They are still troubleshooting. They have not been able to make the car start and run successfully.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

After around 50k miles, I noticed that the engine oil was about a quart low when taking it in for an oil change. At the time I was told pretty much what the owners manual states about oil consumption. I've owned many vehicles in the past, old and new, and never had one that used this much oil. If any of them did use oil, it was a small enough amount that you can't tell from the dipstick. So, with their explanation I moved on. As time went on, it seemed more and more oil was being used by the engine. Now after the warranty would no longer cover such a thing, I was told that I could bring the vehicle in for an oil consumption test, which I did not do since any problem they discover would come out of my pocket. As time progresses, the vehicle is at the point where I have to check the oil every week and add oil. I learned that if I wait for the next oil change @ 3000 miles, there is no oil left in the engine. What's even more disturbing is that there is no indication on the instrument cluster that anything is wrong. I would suspect the oil light would come on at some point, but never have I seen this light, or any other light come on indicating an issue. To sum it up, there are no leaks, the engine will consume all of the oil within 3000 miles if not monitored, and there are no warning lights indicating a problem.

The failure mileage was 10 and the current mileage was approximately 13,500.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 01/17/2009

After purchasing my car I had to bring in to be serviced due to static speakers. The back speakers were replaced but that was not the last problem I would have with them. A few months later my ipod jack went up in smoke and melted my ipod. The service center had to special order the ipod jack and cable which took 30 days to arrive. After replacing said parts I tried them out. They did not function properly and I was told that was the best they could do. A few more months later when I went to turn up the volume on the radio it sent I shock through my finger and out the speaker that my legs as well as my boyfriends were next to. After the shock every speakers started emitting static and I had no choice but to turned the whole radio off. I brought the car in and was sent out the door with no resolution b/c the service center could not duplicate the problem. 2 months went by and the shocking and static happened again. I brought the car in while the issue was present and they tried to sent me home until I begged an associate to please sit in the car and experience what my family and I had. The minute he touched the radio he was shocked and the speakers turned to static. Due to this safety hazard I was given a rental and my car is currently at the service center awaiting repair. However, they do not know where to start and informed my that I should be entitled to a replacement or refund which is the step I am working on now.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2008 Toyota Scion Xb

Failure Date: 08/03/2008

Car parked and dashboard electrical unit caught on fire, the car was engulfed in flames within 3 minutes. Fire department has a real concern with this make/model they responded within 3 minutes and the car was gone. If my son was in the car while it was on fire he would not have had a chance to get out. That is how fast the car fire spread. The vehicle had all original factory components (radio, speakers, etc. ) there is a serious problem in the electrical part of the vehicle. Since this was an isolated incident Toyota does not want to do a "forensics analysis" on the vehicle because it "costs too much money" and they do not want to invest their resources into a single isolated freak incident. I was told by Toyota's total loss dept representative "that it was just not worth it to them to investigate".
