Windshield Problems of Toyota Scion Xb - part 2

I own a Scion Xb 2006 and have the same problem many other Scion Xb owners are having. My front windshield keeps cracking in the typical "l" shaped pattern. The first time was last year, it cracked for no reason during the late spring. A rock never hit it, nor did anything else that led to the crack. Yesterday, I noticed the same "l" shape crack starting, this morning, it spread across my windshield to the passenger side. The crack is just under 3 feet long. This is exactly the same as the first crack, starts on the drivers side about three inches from the end of the window frame and moves to the passenger side. I've had it replaced by my insurance company using their suggested auto glass repair people. I will have it replaced again, tomorrow. So far, this seems to occur every 8,000 miles. I called scion today to tell them about my situation after finding numerous web-sites dedicated specifically to this problem. It seems to be a structural problem with the car and spans many years models as the newer 2008's have the same issues as my 2006 and the older 2005 models.

I just went into the garage to move my scion and noticed a large crack in the shape of a j at the top middle of my windshield. When searching for auto glass on the net, I came across too many posts of xb owners with the same problem and see that it looks like a "silent recall".

L shaped crack on windshield of my 2006 Scion Xb. Had the windshield replaced and one week later the new windshield cracked in the same place with the same shape. It also happened overnight when not driven.

My vehicle has not been driven but approximately 0. 5 miles in 4 days. On the 5th day I got in my vehicle to drive and there was an "l" shaped crack across my windshield. This crack was not there the last time I drove my vehicle. The origin of the crack begins under the seam where the windshield meets the top of the car a few inches towards the driver's side of the vehicle. The crack then goes straight down for approximately 6 inches and then angles sharply towards the passenger side of the vehicle and continues for approximately 12 inches. There is no chip,crack, or nick that appears to be the cause of this large "l" shaped crack. The reason for the crack is completely unknown.

I have a 2006 Scion Xb and in February of 2007 app. 4 months after purchasing my car the windshield developed a crack in it, there was no sign of a rock hitting no noise I just looked up and it was cracked. The dealer replaced the window and just yesterday Sep. 14, 2008 I got in my car and there was another crack I here a popping noise the night before and the next morning there was an l shaped crack in it.

Our car was parked overnight, when getting into the car the next morning I noticed that the windshield had cracked in the shape of an l.

I have a 2006 Scion Xb that was purchased in may 2006. Last year, in 2007, a crack appeared that started on the edge of the windshield on the driver's side. They crack then grew from a line into an l shape. A month or so after that another l shaped crack appeared coming from the top of the windshield behind the rearview mirror. I replaced the windshield on August 29, 2008. Last night the windshield was fine, this morning (September 12, 2008 - two weeks later!!) there is another l shaped crack behind the rearview mirror that appeared overnight while the car was sitting in my driveway.

I have a large crack in the front windshield of my 2008 Scion Xb. I bought the car in may so it is a little over 3 months old. I do not believe that it was caused by anything hitting the windshield. My scion dealer says that it is not covered by my warranty. They want to charge me $1010 to replace the windshield and the molding.

1. Maybe a pebble impact 2. Windshield crack (one time, I have not changed the windshield yet) 3. Nothing yet.

The contact owns a 2004 Toyota Scion Xb. In an attempt to drive the vehicle at various speeds, the contact noticed a 1 foot by 1 foot crack on the front windshield. The current mileage was 60,000 and failure mileage was 55,000.

Around March 2008, I pebble hit my Scion Xb windshield and caused a small crack. About a week later the windshield cracked in different places and I had to get it replaced. Recently, on August 4th, 2008, another pebble hit my windshield and another crack. And today August 27th, 2008, my friend who has an xb also got a crack on her windshield from a small pebble. I looked online for some sort of explanation and it seems that tons of Scion Xb owners are complaining of such a defect on their windshields. So I am also here to complain about this problem since im going through my 2nd windshield.

I own a 2006 Scion Xb and parked the car in a parking lot. Upon my return I found a crack in my windshield that started on the lower right side, went in about 2 inches, up about 6 inches, and then left about 12 inches. It does not appear that there was any impact or rock chip to initiate the crack.

I purchased my Scion Xb 2006 in August of 2006. Last week, wed. July 9, 2008, an l shaped crack appeared on my front windshield. It appeared overnight out of nowhere. I discovered it in the morning. There are no signs of trauma to the windshield. The crack starts at the very top edge of the windshield and goes in an l shape. The next morning (thur, July 10) a second l-shaped crack appeared in my windshield in the same fashion. This one is on the lower left side and also starts at the very edge of the windshield. Again, there was no trauma to the windshield and the crack appeared out of nowhere. The two cracks are now heading toward each other, and I am worried this defective windshield will crack. After researching this issue online and talking to mechanics, I have found out that this is a common defect in the Scion Xb 2006 model. Many owners have reported l-shaped cracks appearing out of nowhere and filed complaints. The mechanic I spoke with said that he has replaced many cracked windshields on Scion Xb's. He attributes what he termed this design defect to the fact that the car sits so low and the steep grade of the windshield. I know you have received numerous other complaints about this problem, and I urge you to take action.

Two separate cracks on windshield 1st on occurred at 4000 miles on passenger side and is now 14 inches long. The 2nd one is on the drivers side at 17000 miles and is 10 inches long.

Windshield cracks on its own (not due to rocks or anything) there is an l shaped crack which starts at the top center of the windshield which is caused most likely by a defect in the design which caused the body to flex.

I have a 2005 Scion Xb I have had to have the windshield replaced so far due to cracks caused by rocks. I just found out that this is a common issue with Scion Xb's but Toyota of scion is no help what so every they keep giving me the run around. I have never had any type of problem like this with any other cars I've had and have never had to have a windshield replaced. This car seems like !! I have contacted scion with no luck. When will this be fix??.

2005 Scion Xb we have had to put three windshields in, four sets of tires and now the speedometer went out. We just spent two thousand dollars at the dealership, it had to have the seat belts done, the cruise control stuck all the time and we never got recall letters, I went on line. I am so concerned about the safety of my son. There should never be three windshield replacements, we don't know what the deal on this is and we have checked the tires daily. I appreciate the information here.

Today, 6/13/08, I was washing my car. . . . Nothing unusual. . . . After I was finished with the outside and started on the inside, I noticed a crack in the windshield. . . . I wasn't even driving so nothing hit the windshield. . . After doing some research, I have discovered that this is an ongoing issue with this particular make and model. . . .

A crack appeared in the windshield of my car while it was parked in my driveway. There was no trauma to the windshield prior to this crack appearing.

I have a 2006 Scion Xb with only 9,000 miles on it, and I am about to replace the windshield for the third time with the same exact l-shape crack that begins at the top center goes down about 6 inches and then to the left 6 inches. No rock damage or other damage can be attributed to this. There is some kind of defect to cause a windshield to constantly crack in the same place every time with the same look.

The Scion Xb seems particularly prone to windshield damage. A tiny rock hit it once before, and a large crack formed almost immediately. I replaced the entire windshield and then within 2 weeks, I had the same situation again.

Front windshield developed l-shaped crack on passenger side, starting at top molding. Car was sitting in driveway, no evidence of impact. Took car to dealer for eval, at first they could find no reason for crack. Service manager then used a pen to find a minute imperfection in the crack line. He claimed it was an impact, however, it was less than 2mm long by 1 mm, not circular in shape and follows exactly the line of the crack. In my opinion he broke off a tiny shard when he did the pen trick. After I made him look at it again, and a rock impact on another one of my cars (with no crack), he could not explain how such a tiny chip could look so different and cause such a crack. He refused to acknowledge any defect or knowledge of scion problems with windshields. Ironically, I found an entry for another 2008 from the same dealership. I am following increased escalation of the issue, next step is an inspection by the factory rep. After that, I will call the national Toyota customer service. If I can get no action, then I will call the attorney general of the state.

Cracked windshield on 2008 Scion Xb. . . . Just walked out one morning and the crack was there.

Noticed a crack in the windshield after vehicle parked overnight. Crack is "l" shaped beginning at driver's side windshield edge approx. 12" from bottom, extending approx. 3" horizontally, then turning 90 degrees toward bottom of windshield and extending approx. 9". Crack is not from debris and no pits can be felt anywhere along the crack. Vehicle is in warranty but dealer states that since no recall has been issued the warranty does not cover the windshield. As of 6/16/08 the windshield has not been replaced.

My 2008 Scion Xb has been through two windshields in a year. I was told at the dealer I am lucky because they have replaced and many as five windshields on other xb's. The windshield seems to crack very easily.

My scion was parked in a garage. The next morning when I went to get in the car I noticed a 12 inch crack in my windshield that started on the far drivers side and curved a little then went straight towards the middle of the car. The date of the crack was 4/19/08. Toyota replaced the window on 4/22/08. I got into my car on 4/27/08 to go to a friends house 1 hour later I got into my car and there was another crack in my windshield. It started at the bottom of the window in the middle of the windshield and came up about 5 inches and curved towards the driver side for about 5 or 6 inches.

I bought my scion brand new in Nov. 2005. It was my first brand new car, and I love my xb. I have been having unacceptable problems with windshield cracks. I am currently on my 5th windshield, and today I came out and saw a new crack. Approx. 12" on the lower passenger side. The car has been parked in the driveway facing the garage door since about 530pm yesterday. Some one of the previous crack was due to a small pebble like object that lightly hit the windshield. It was instantaneously a 10" crack. My first two windshields were covered by my insurance, that last one I paid for out of pocket. With the new crack I will also have to pay for replacement unless Toyota owns up to the defect. The new crack shows no signs of impact. It grows out from under the molding and goes up, then slightly to the right, then up again. I have contacted Toyota twice hoping to get this solved. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

My rear windshield has cracked and completely shattered 3 time in 6 months. I've had to pay out of pocket, and im tired of it. . . . Toyota claims there is no defect, but I've read on other sites that I'm not the only person this has happened to. My front windshield is now cracked from underneath the outside molding. . . . How many thousands of dollars do I have to spend before they recall this issue.

An "l" shaped crack that appeared without incident from the top section of my windshield above the rear-view mirror. Approx. 10 inches long at this point. Appears to be getting larger daily. No chips in windshield that could have caused a crack like this. I have an appointment tomorrow to have windshield replaced.

One morning when getting into my (5 mo old) 2008 Scion Xb I found a 2-3 in. Crack in the windshield that started under the weatherstriping at the a-pillar about 6-8 inches up from the hood on the passenger side. Within a short time that day the crack extended up to approx. 12-14 in. In a u shape. Due to conflicts I was unable to take the car to the dealer for 2 weeks. By that time the crack had extended about 4-5in. More horizontally across the windshield and a second crack started from the bottom of the u shape extending down to the hood (about 2-3 in). Visual examination of the windshield revealed no obvious pits or impact hits. The weatherstripping where the crack initiated also appears free of defects or damage. Upon quick review from the dealer they declared that it was cracked due to some impact (rock/pebble/etc. . . ) and refused replacement as factory defect.

This has to do with front windshield cracking. Our windshield has several cracks from a couple of minor hits by what I would consider small pebbles. Several cracks have formed and they are now joining together. I have read on line that this is a problem with these car's and therefore may be a defect.

Spontaneous crack on windshield of my xb scion. It has been cracked out of my field of vision for over a year, and then just a few weeks back it crack all the way across!.
