Seven problems related to brake abs warning light have been reported for the 2001 Toyota Sequoia. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia based on all problems reported for the 2001 Sequoia.
The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Sequoia. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled. During the failure, the traction control and abs indicators illuminated. The vehicle restarted, but the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Multiple times over the past 5 months my 2001 Sequoia will suddenly apply the brakes strongly while driving, sometimes causing the steering to pull to the right. Thankfully this seems to happen shortly after beginning to drive, so the speeds have been municipal speed, rather than highway. At the same time, a warning bell sounds and the vsc and abs lights come on in yellow. Sometimes when I start the vehicle, the vsc and abs lights are already on, so the sudden braking does not occur. If the lights are off, I have learned to prepare for the sudden braking. I will take this to Toyota before the snow flies here in northern NY because this is a definite safety hazard, and could cause an accident when the roads are snow and ice covered.
While I was driving the vsc trac light came on, the vehicle started grinding while I was pressing the gas and brakes. The vehicle felt as if it was loosing power, I almost lost control of the steering wheel because car was losing power and control. The abs light also came on and vehicle started shaking very badly. This happens several times while I'm driving vehicle. I have taken it to be serviced from the dealer but the problem still exists. I will talk with an attorney about these problems because I am very afraid of a serious accident while driving my wife and kids.
For unknown reasons, my 2001 Toyota sequioa's vsc, brake, and abs lights are "on" and the abs and vsc system no longer works. A certified dealer (fiore Toyota; 1480 south main st; fall river, MA, 02724) attempted to diagnose the problem. They replaced the brakes (front/rear) and the brake fluid reservoir and a tune up for $1300, but the vsc, abs, and brake lights are still on. Firore has no idea what to do and can no longer help me fix the problem. I now do not have abs and stability control in the snowy northeast!.
My vsc/abs skid control light went on and my vsc/trac sensor and abs lights were going on and off for about 5 days. The first time was on the highway and I lost all acceleration and had to pull of the road two times over a 4 mile stretch. The final time, which caused me to go for a repair was, at a stop sign where I began to accelerate when my skid light came on and the gas pedal became unresponsive for about 10 seconds. I was able to swerve to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle but was scared as I had my one year old in the vehicle and felt helpless. I got an estimate from two dealers and one came in at $2,000 stating the whole throttle needed replacing with the sensor. The second dealership spent 8 hours examining it and decided to clean the throttle control sensor and this seemed to fix it without any added expense. This dealer only charged me $55 for a checkup!! there have been no recurrence of this issue thank god! this should be a recall!!.
Brake, abs, skid control warning lights on , dealer service checked and recommended replacing battery which was done by them. Following day warning lights still on intermittently , returned to dealer for service but the warning lights would not come on while the dealer had it. Was advised it was not a safety issue, just malfunctioning warning lights. Now( October 2007) the lights are always on and when returned to dealer for service again was told this time it was the skid control ecu, and recommend replacing skid control ecu. Was also told it that the abs and skid control were not functioning when lights were on so handling would be affected (safety issue ). At this time I am gathering information on whether it should be replaced or not.
Vsc light illumination/failures initially appeared at 42,000 miles, very intermittent and seemingly random. Frequency increased after 75,000 miles; abs light appeared later. 1. Vsc off light illuminated (variable speed control) initially at intermittent time while driving, now illuminated full-time. 2. Vsc trac light illuminated (variable speed control) initially at intermittent time while driving, now illuminated full-time. 3. Abs light illuminated (anti lock brakes) initially at intermittent time while driving, now illuminated full-time. Abs now inoperable. Tested to validate inoperable status - full brake lockup, no abs operation. Variable speed control now inoperable. Spun out twice recently in slow speed right hand off-camber turn on wet pavement.
