37 Body problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/17/2021

Hello, I am writing to you to have an investigation started on 2003 Toyota Sequoia, I own one and there has been concerns with the frame of the vehicle rotting out, there was warranty enhancement program sent out in united states to cover frames of 2001 to 2004 Toyota Sequoias which replaced severely rusted out frames at the dealership. I use this vehicle for my family and I do not want to endanger the lives of them and the people around the community where the frame may break due to rust and cause a severe accident. Please take a look at the details below and get back to me. Subject: limited service campaign (lsc) csd certain 2001 through 2004 model year Sequoia vehicles frame inspection I am located in canada would like nhsta to investigate and see if this program can be administered to vehicles in canada since I have severe rotting of the frame and I have had to have it welded many times to not compromise the safety of the vehicle.

38 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/10/2021

The driver side, rear, trailing arm broke away from the vehicles frame due to “frame rot” while driving. The vehicle became extremely dangerous to drive. Toyota has since declined to help. They said they notified us via mail of a customer service campaign addressing the premature rust issue, but we never learned of the program and lawsuit until after the frame broke and I almost crashed. Later I saw the broken arm/frame under the vehicle. This frame failure can potentially be a catastrophic and deadly event. I opened an insurance claim and it was denied and I was referred back to Toyota. Our vehicle has been factory maintained it’s entire life. No service advisors ever mentioned a possible problem to my family and I. I recently spoke to the Toyota service manager at parker Toyota in couer d alene idaho and his master technicians have seen the same failure that occurred on our vehicle. This is extremely dangerous.

39 Body problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/06/2021

Frame replacement needed: I took my 2001 Toyota Sequoia (45,515 miles; always garaged) in for an emissions & safety inspection. I was notified the excessive rust on the frame has cause damage to the lines for the brakes/bubbling on the lines, fuel line, power steering fluid lines and, eventually, other undercar items may soon fail. It is recommended that due to the excessive rusting/premature frame rotting, the SUV should be decommissioned and off the road. Toyota dealership actually suggested that it might be necessary for me to sign a waiver in order to take the vehicle out of the dealership. The waiver was to hold Toyota harmless should something result as a result of the defect. I was shocked at the request/I declined. Stated the severe rusting is from the front to the rear of the frame. Research shows the Toyota corporation is fully aware of the excessive rusting on the Toyota Sequoia suvs however no remedy has been in place to resolve the issue for current owners. I am advised to replace the fuel lines (approximately $1700 for parts and labor), however, upon replacement the excessive rusting to the frame may damage the other lines in the vehicle and the frame will need to be replaced as well (about $10,000). The 2nd technician stated he has done work on 20+ year old suvs a lot, none with anywhere near this type of premature rusted frame. Stated he couldn't believe how bad it is. Said it flakes apart when you touch it anywhere. He stressed that I should not have my octogenarian mom, and 1st grader in the vehicle. This is our family vehicle. The 2001 Sequoia SUV was built on a tundra frame which had a structural recall (NHTSA action number: pe09049) for frames built in 2000 and 2001. The Sequoia was left out of this recall; a 2012 spray option was offered for the frame (I was told by "israel" today / brand ambassador department). I never received the notification. No dupport from Toyota. The frame, fuel lines need replacement. Pls help!.

40 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/19/2021

I was on the freeway driving and out of nowhere the body started swaying and bobbing with no control. Was informed by the tow truck driver that I could have rolled the vehicle easily and the consequences would have been serious. The frame is so rusted out that the tie rod and sway bar assembly are completely detached from the frame and hanging loose. Upon further inspection at the auto repair garage there are rusting issues throughout the frame. The frame needs complete replacement.

41 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

Frame rusted out and parts dropping off frame with no early warning. Toyota completed corrosion resistant compound 2 years ago following inspection per limited service campaign h0f, saying issue resolved to extent of warranty with known rust issue for this year and model. Now another independent garage saying we never should have been driving, much less hauling 5000 lb. Trailer. Only warning was odd sound from under carriage.

52 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/11/2020

On 1/31/20 I took possession of 2005 Toyota Sequoia, VIN 5tdbt44a45s247780 and on 2/3/20 I registered the vehicle in the state of massachusetts. The previous owner mr. Robert m. Downey jr. Had originally purchased the vehicle on November 27, 2007 with 48,836 miles. Mr. Downey told me that Toyota had inspected the frame and coated it. On 2/4/20 I visited Toyota of dartmouth in north dartmouth, MA 02747 for set up an appointment to have two air bag recalls addressed. Upon their review of the vehicle's Toyota service record they informed me that no record regarding the frame or frame coating exists. On 2/11/20 Toyota dartmouth took the vehicle in for the two air bag recalls and during that time I had asked for an opinion of the frame. They completed the air bag recalls and told me that they were unable to lift the vehicle. Severe rot holes on the driver side rear of frame where drag link connects to frame. Vehicle is unsafe. they recommended I call Toyota because the frame program had expired but said that Toyota might be able to help. I called Toyota that afternoon and was told a customer experience agent would call me back the following day. On 2/12/20 a Toyota agent called me and explained that because the frame program had expired in January 2019 that there was nothing that Toyota could do. I asked to speak with someone higher up who could review the case. I was connected with aaron jones, operations supervisor of customer experience at the Toyota headquarters in plano, TX. Mr. Jones also explained that because the frame inspection/replacement program for my vehicle had expired that there was nothing Toyota could do. I requested that he elevate the case higher to someone who could review the case on a stand alone basis. Mr. Jones told me that he was the highest this could go and that there would be no further action by Toyota for this case # 20023111681.

When traveling on the freeway at 65-70mph there is a whistling or metal to metal sound that happens on the left side of the car. I can't tell if it's in the windshield or the frame area. Also there is a constant squeak on the right corner of the windshield at the dashboard.

Took vehicle to local Toyota dealership due to steering issue - when I would hit a bump I would loose control of the steering. Inspection showed the vehicle under body and frame has completely rusted, there are sever holes and the trailing arm has separated from the frame. I am not the original owner, but Toyota had a recall on the frame during the prior ownership and the vehicle was serviced multiple times at a Toyota dealership during the recall and the problem was not addressed. Toyota refuses to offer any assistance at this time.

56 Body problem of the 2004 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/22/2019

I was checking everything on my vehicle over before I went for inspection and I noticed rust corrosion starting on the frame. I took to a friend to check for me and they told me that there was a safety issue with the frames and there was a recall of sorts back in 2012 regarding the frames were not coated correctly for the colder states. I had heard about this warranty issue before but was never notified. My brother in law told me to check it out back in 2016 when there was a recall on the airbag/steering component. I was told at that time that the recall/ warranty issue had expired and nothing could be done. I have not noticed any rust until this year. This vehicle does not go off road and is only driven on paved roads. I called Toyota USA on 7/24/2019 and explained to them the situation. One of the ladies felt confident that I could be helped. Then when I was transferred to a lady named ashley, she informed me that there was nothing they could do. She told me that the warranty issue was sent to the original owner in June of 2012 and they did not respond. They probably did not respond seeing how I have been the owner of this vehicle since 1/26/2012. I was then told that since I do not take it to a certified Toyota service center to have my regular maintenance done that there was still nothing they can do. I should have the right to take my vehicle where I want without the manufacturer deciding to honor a warranty based on the fact that I go to one of their service centers. I would have taken my vehicle during the correct dates to have the coating put on my vehicle if they would have sent me the notice and not to the original owner. Especially since I was the owner of the vehicle for 5 months when they sent out the warranty notice but they sent it to the wrong owner. I feel that Toyota should take care of this issue.

57 Body problem of the 2002 Toyota Sequoia

Sunroof glass flew off my vehicle on highway speed 65-70 mph. I have a 2002 Toyota Sequoia sr5. 62 Body problem of the 2010 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

I purchased this 2010 Sequoia in ohio a few years ago. I believe it was previously owned in MA. The rear hatch door lock looked like it had gotten water damage and has been getting stuck, more now than when I got it. It's getting to the point where it takes several tries to manually open, feels like it's still locked even though it sounds like it unlocks. Sometimes I can't get it to open at all after 10 minutes of trying. I've given up on the trying the interior button and the button on the fob to try to open it. It acts like it's going to open and then beeps twice and stops. Again, the latch is locked tight when it should be unlatched. Ive tried spying lubrications in it when it's open. Sometimes it helps for a while then it gets stuck again. I couldn't get our softball team equipment out for the game. Embarrassing.

65 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/05/2019

My vehicle was in for engine and transmission repairs and being worked on for 3 months. I was unable to get it to Toyota before the January 31 deadline for the frame program. I called and was told because it was being worked on, it would be honored anyways. Called to schedule to bring it in and they said, sorry, that expired, so you have to get approval from Toyota but we can still coat it in anti corrosion til the end of may. I called Toyota and spoke to multiple people who all said, its expired and we can't help you. So now I have a vehicle with a proven unsafe frame and no solution.

66 Body problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

The trunk latch/handle/lock. I have had it replaced 3 times by a Toyota dealership. There's is clearly a manufacture defect and there's needs to be a recall. The last time the Toyota dealership I. Austin texas replaces it I had a 12 month warranty. In exactly 14 months the same thing occurred again! this is ridiculous to say the least and I am tired of paying 600 (parts/labor) to repair, when Toyota is aware of the problem! note: when the handle breaks there is no access to the spare tire because you have to life the trunk to access the spare time. I have had my vehicle towed twice scorn tire issues because the spare could not be accessed. The last occurrence I was stranded on side of the road at 2am.

67 Body problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/21/2019

The recall warranty expired on this vehicle on January 31, 2017. I first received notice of this defect when I took my vehicle to the dealership for another issue I was experiencing. The dealership notified me that the recall was for rusting of the vehicle's chassis and is dangerous for me to continue driving my vehicle. I usually receive notices, as I did for the airbag recall, however, I never received any notice with regard to the recall for the vehicle chassis. I have kept the same address for the past 20 years. I attempted to call Toyota and Toyota told me I should have visually noticed the defect. The defect is the rust underneath my car, which is not open and obvious. This was also admitted by the agent/supervisor. Toyota failed to even offer 50% coverage on this recall. How can a car company allow its customers to continue driving a vehicle with such a dangerous defect that I never received notice of.

68 Body problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Sequoia. The contact took the vehicle to davenport Toyota (located at 1501 e 53rd st, davenport, IA 52807, (563) 391-4106) for a noise that was coming from the chassis while driving. The dealer diagnosed that the frame was badly corroded through. The vehicle was not repaired. Three hours after leaving the dealer, while driving 55 mph, the frame fractured and the rear of the vehicle shook violently left and right. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact drove the vehicle slowly to his residence. Once the contact arrived home and looked underneath the vehicle, he noticed that the rear passenger side was completely corroded through. The contact stated that there was no coating on the frame, which caused the metal to corrode badly. The vehicle was taken back to davenport Toyota where it was inspected and the contact was informed that the frame was corroded through and there was no resolution for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The approximate failure mileage was 186,000.

69 Body problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/15/2019

We need help in getting Toyota motors, inc. To honor the warranty program covering premature excessive rust corrosion of certain Toyota model frames. In mid-October 2018 we received notification from Toyota motors, inc. , of the following: warranty enhancement notification zh8 and limited service campaign hof. the zh8 and hof were instituted as a result of a determination that the frames on certain Toyota vehicles are prone to excessive, premature rust corrosion because the frames were not properly prepared and treated against rust corrosion when they were manufactured. excessive rust corrosion on my SUV compromises the vehicles safety, stability, and crash-worthiness because important suspension components, engine mounts, transmission mounts, and body mounts anchor to the vehicles frames. By driving my high end SUV, I will be putting my family's safety at risk. On 10/25/2018: we took our SUV to jim coleman Toyota in bethesda, MD for frame inspection. The attached work order shows: inspected and found no perforation. Eligible for crc spray customer will return at a later date for frame crc application. it was during this time I was told that jim coleman only had one person performing this work. And that we had two years from October 2018 to have the work performed by Toyota at no charge. On Monday March 10, 2019, we left our SUV with the Toyota dealer so that the hof work could be performed. We received a call from the dealer at 5:05pm on Friday 03/15/2019 informing us that (a) our SUV had not been repaired since the frame needed to be replaced (b) that there are large holes in the frame and (c) no work would be performed since the hof had ended in January 2019. We paid over $60,000. 00 for our Toyota SUV not many years ago. We literally received a different answer regarding the crc and hof each time we called Toyota customer relations.
