Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that upon inspection, the driver side door failed to close intermittently with no warnings. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 98,000. The current mileage was 99,000. Jr.

My power sliding rear doors malfunction. Sometimes the door will even start to close on its own as me or my wife are putting my small child in his safety seat. The most common issue is the door not opening or closing automatically. I was quoted almost $3000 for the repair to both doors as they are both malfunctioning. The dealer rep told me this is a common issue and the mechanic even said it happened to his van. This obviously is a common issue that should be investigated immediately, I found people even here complaining if the same/similar issues. Please help!.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

Sliding doors will not open.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2012

Power sliding door fails to operate from inside buttons or remote control. Power sliding door will only will work when the outside door handle is pulled. Motor that moves the door front/back works fine when the door is activated from the outside handle. This creates a safety situation in the event passengers need to exit the vehicle in an emergency. Warranty enhancement fails to address this adequately as Toyota dealer wanted to charge $115 fee to assess the issue and he advised there are several parts not covered by the extended warranty enhancement.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

Passenger side power sliding door hinge broke at the joint attached to the door which made the door sag and rub up against the rear quarter panel which resulted in scratched paint and metal. Door was not able to be opened by remote. Had to be 'helped along' to get it started opening. I thought it was electrical until I took it to the dealership. Toyota part number is 68380¿08031. As a result of the broken hinge, the door lock actuator has burned out and will not open the door with the use of the remote. Toyota only has a recall for the cable in the sliding door mechanism, but the dealership will not replace the cable until it is actually broken. This same type cable holds up the spare tire and they did replace it. I guess a tire falling into the road is more important than my child falling out of the van if the door falls off!.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2011

Driver and passenger doors are flailing open wide due to the broken frame inside the door. Consistent popping noises started occurring then it stopped. The door now only stops when opened all the way. This is dangerous to not only the driver/passenger, but for other cars.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2011

Cable that operates the sliding power door on Toyota Sienna xle broke. The steel cable rusted out and is exposed. The car is 5 years old and has 45,000 miles on it. Toyota says you have to replace the door motor and cable. The cost $1800-2000. Far too much money for a poorly designed opening system. The steel cable is exposed to the elements and of course it's going to rust out.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

Sliding door on the Sienna minevan as soon as the temp drops to 0c the sliding doors are stuck shut and the otomation sucks as well we would not be able to get the kids out of the van quickly.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2011

Power slide door pulley cable assembly failed on the driver side of a 2005 Toyota Sienna xle with 84,000 miles. The cable snapped and renders the door useless. Pauly Toyota dealer (crystal lake, IL) did not even come within 20 feet of the van and quoted me $1600 to repair. The cable of the passenger side of the car has shows that the protective cable coating is crumbling and the cable is rusting making it a matter of time before passenger side door cable snaps as well. This is a very poor design that the cable is constantly exposed to the elements and prone to rusting and snapping (there are a lot of posts on the internet of 2004 Sienna owners with the same problem). The failed part is the cable, but you are required to purchase the entire motor assembly to repair - it is a poor design to begin with, especially for owners that live in cold weather climates where the vehicle is exposed to freezing/thawing, road salt, etc.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2010

Toyota Sienna vans are dangerously too low to install a trailer hitch.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

A recall was issued for the rear lift gate struts. Immediately after having this done the rear lift gate would not close all the way and would open back up after going half the way down. On occasion the rear lift gate has flown open half way down. Toyota informed us that the gas pressure in the new struts was the problem and they would not fix it. I wish I had not had the recall done as I did not have a problem before then. It has been an on going problem. I have to apply pressure to the back door to prevent it opening on closing every time.

This complaint is in regard to Toyota recall 08v-244, which replaces the struts on the back door hatch. The dealership, fred anderson Toyota of raleigh, informed me of the recall and recommended that the struts be replaced. Unfortunately, once the new struts were in place the door would no longer close properly. The dealership informed me that the motor was too weak to work with the new struts and that I would have to pay for a new motor. I have found on edmonds. Com that this is a common problem. It is evident that Toyota did not consider the impact of the new struts on the motor. Consumers should be made aware that allowing Toyota to replace these struts per the recall will render the back door inoperable. Toyota should revise this recall so that new struts will be used that actually work with the existing motor or installation of a new motor that will work with the new struts should be covered. An additional safety concern is that the new struts are too powerful. The back door shoots up like a rocket. This may be caused b/c the existing motor is too weak to offer any resistance. I am afraid that the door will cause damage to property or another person b/c it opens up much too fast and much too hard.

Dashboard is melting.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2007

I first experience issue with the doors closing but not smoothly and the dealer at the time was where I purchased the vehicle and they said there was nothing wrong but I would occassionally have to tug on teh door latch 5-7 times very forcefully in order for the door to disengage and start to open. I switched to a Toyota dealer within 5 miles of my home and had my car in for regular service several times I requested the side sliding doors checked because the driver side had more frequent occurance of not opening unless tugging very forcefully on the latch and then once it started to open it made a creaking sound that I explained as sounding like a strained metal wire. I asked if there were any issues with door mechanisms or motors etc as I had not received any type of recall notice, etc. I was told on 3 seperate occassions that the doors were in working order . On 7/16/13. I brought car to dealership to diagnoase service eng light that came on and indicated sliding doors were making odd noises and seemed to have difficulty closing completely. The dealer called the next day and indicated a cost $5k for repairs. I inquired about the sliding doors and was told by the phone rep that there was no documentation of a door problem and I explained that I have been experiencing issues with the sliding doors on both sides and it was supposed to be checked. I was asked to hold and then was told the doors were checked and had no issue. That was a lie. I left for vacation on 7/19 and returned on 8/7 without my Sienna. The day I got back the passenger sliding door opened but but would not close I hit the button to close I heard the motor for the door but it didn't move. I found a peice of black plastic on the ground and a metal cable hanging from the side of the car. I was not informed of recal/extended coverage for the sliding doors I would have demanded replacement!.
