There is a structural problem with 2006 Toyota Sienna minivan. The rear liftgate strut stopped working. The trunk door is just heavy dead weight. One adult must lift and hold the trunk door (which is quite heavy) so that the other adult can access the trunk -- or at least accessing the trunk without smashing their skull and/or arms/hands/back. Toyota said that they had an extended warranty that covered this part that expired in 2012. It looks like there was a recall of this part for 2006 Toyotas. However, Toyota is telling me that mine was not covered by the 2006 recall because mine was produced later in 2006. So, apparently, Toyota is in the business of building vehicles that allow you to access your trunk for only 6 years -- after that, it is a two person job to get in and out of the trunk. That tells me that in September 2006, I bought my last Toyota.
Just voicing my complaint about how much time it is taking Toyota to correct their spare tire assembly recall: report receipt date: may 22, 2014 NHTSA campaign number: 14v273000 component(s): tires I find it hard to believe that it would take more than a year to find a solution. Additionally, the temporary solution, relocating the spare to the passenger compartment, significantly lessens the minivan's functionality.
The door driver side has the problem: the door making noise like craking inside the door, the auto repair shop they told me the year 2005 and 2006 same my problem alot, because the welding inside door pannel attach with latch the welding came off, that why when I open and close door it make craking noise, they told me hard to repair and cost alot money. Can you investigate this problem and the Toyota factory recall to fix this proplem! thank you very much, to hear from you soon😒.
Found big crake in dash board.
The tailgate struts are worn down very easily by the design of the tailgate, with the result that the door slams shut on its own - and it is very heavy. Toyota extended the warranty on the struts to 6 years, but the struts still wear out after a short time because of the tailgate design. Toyota appears to be aware of this because of the warranty extension, but refuses to address the design problem. It is a serious flaw as the heavy tailgate can slam down on the necks and heads of both adults and children loading the trunk. A review of Toyota and car forum boards illustrate how widespread and dangerous the problem can be.
Spare tire underneath the van fell on road while driving while I was driving into a mall. Called Toyota customer service at 18003314331 about this issue. Although Toyota has acknowledged this problem and issued a warning, they refused to fix this issue. If this had happened on a highway, there could have been serious consequences.
The hatchback of the Toyota Sienna was broken. It could be opened but did not stay up. I had to hold it up and when I let go of it, the door slammed down quickly and could have hurt me if I didn't move. I had it fixed on June 28th because it was unsafe.
The car was in park in the driveway with the engine running. Without putting the car in drive, the car rolled forward after I exited the vehicle. I quickly turned to get back in the car to stop the vehicle, as it was rolling towards my other car in the driveway. In doing so, I suffered a knee injury, fell to the ground I injured my knee and was unable to stop the vehicle before it made contact with my other car. The injury to my knee was significant, required surgery, and I have still not returned to work.
In the summer of 2010, I began having issues with the rear hatch of my Sienna not staying open. I had the rear hatch stays replaced under the recall in July 2010. This winter, the rear hatch began to have the same issue. Seems like Toyota didn't do a very good job of making a safe rear hatch system.
Passenger side sliding door failed to lock. The "door open" light on the dashboard remained lit. This is a potential safety issue since the door could open while driving. I took it to Toyota dealership service department which identified faulty rear latch and gave me an estimate of repair cost of $526. This is an expensive repair cost which the consumer should not have to pay since the faulty latch mechanism is not a result of usage of the vehicle, rather it is probably due to a faulty design. Toyota should have issued a recall of this faulty latch mechanism.
Front door pops when opening / closing. Door weldings are loose, apparently a very common problem with Toyota Sienna's. Dealer is no help, want to replace the entire door at my expense.
The dashboard on my vehicle is melting. Even though it is a 2006 model my vehicle only has 59,000 miles. When I reported it to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle they told me that it was because I used the wrong cleaner and I had damaged it. The estimated cost to replace the dashboard cover was $1,000. 00. Our local tv station ran a report that the Toyota's and Lexus vehicles all have this same problem.
The sliding power door, passenger side does not open and is stuck closed. Toyota is charging over $1500 for the fix, even though the problem has existed for years. Any on-line search will clearly indicate a need for a recall on this safety issue: "to date, Toyota has not issued a recall for the Sienna, although some owners have reported that the automaker has issued technical service bulletins (TSB) for the automatic sliding doors. A TSB is effectively a hidden recall, meaning that Toyota is attempting to handle the problem in-house. Contact your Toyota dealer for assistance. Check the NHTSA website for current recall information" I have contacted Toyota, many times and they just don’t care. So can the NHTSA do soemting about this issue or not???? thank you.
On February 25, 2012, the passenger side power sliding door on my 2006 Toyota Sienna would not close unless I applied force. For months this issue did not resolve and became worse to the point where we could no longer use the door. This became a safety issue as my three young children could only exit through the driver side door into the street side. This put my children and me in danger of being hit by passing motorists. Furthermore, in the event of an emergency, this exit point would not be available to us. After receiving the warranty enhancement notice we took the vehicle in for repair in July 2012, but were informed the part needing replacement, identified as "r/sliding door rear support latch and cable assy" was not covered even though the warranty enhancement notice clearly stated "rear sliding door latch assemblies" and "power sliding door cable assembly" were covered. I was told the part numbers did not match. In July 2013, I opened a case with Toyota customer service. They again informed me the parts would not be covered under the enhancement warranty. I expressed my complete disappointment for the lack of regard for my family's safety. Shortly after, I received a surprising call from the dealership explaining that the part in question was actually covered. Their error was upsetting. I had to take my vehicle in twice to finally have the door repaired and had to pay for an additional part, a hinge that caused the door to sag and drag against the body of the vehicle which contributed to the safety issue and also caused visible damage to the exterior. I'm thankful the door is finally repaired, but worry that this issue has great potential for recurrence. I hope the NHTSA investigates the doors as I see many others have voiced similar complaints. Although the warranty enhancement has been Toyota's solution, it does not seem to be fixing the problem.
Bumped my head severely because recalled and replaced rear-hatch struts failed for a second time and wouldn't open the hatch completely. Toyota won't cover it again. Repair is excessively expensive.
I have a Toyota Sienna with 69,451 miles. I have had both rear sliding doors repaired twice each. The doors still do not engage and lock. I have two children and multiple times the doors have opened while driving. Toyota recently has a recall on this issue, but it only dates back to 2011. This is an issue for many earlier models and I am furious it was not included. Toyota says there is nothing else they can do for me. When one of my children falls out the back and gets injured is not the time to address it. I demand that the 2006 model be included in the recall for safety issues, not just for me and my children, but for many, many others who have complained about the same issue. Please address this problem before someone gets hurt or worse. Thank you for your prompt attention. The date the incident occured below is from when I first began having a problem.
I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna le with less than 40,000 miles. The rear hatch strut has failed and the hatch will not stay open on it's own and comes crashing down with intense force if not held open. When it first happened it came crashing down on my back and hurt it. I am quick to move out of the way now when it closes because it can cause serious harm to anyone in its way. This is of serious concern to me with a 5 year old and a 3 year old. I contacted Toyota about it and they want to charge me $400 to fix their problem. I have seen there has been a recall for the 2006 Sienna with a power door but not for the other models. My guess is that they might use the same strut or the strut is having the same issue. Please investigate this as I have seen numerous people with the same problem.
I have been the owner of two 2006 Sienna vans and both have had failure of both of the side mirrors. The mirrors become floppy and will not hold their position. This results in the loss of blind spot visibility on both sides of the vehicle. There is no specific incident that causes the failure. It is expensive to fix and would seem to be a safety issue. While there have been several close calls of attempting to change lanes and thinking the mirror was in the correct position only to find there was a vehicle in the blind spot I have avoided an accident.
The driver-side mirror with dimming, blinker, hest snd folding in capability has failed. The motor that controls the mirror constantly runs and the mirror opens and closes with the wind direction. I tried to find a replacement part but all the replacement parts have the same motor problem. The dealership requires a entire mirror replacement and repaint.
