1 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2016

Toyota has an on-going issue with airbag/srs wiring harnesses that fail. When the wiring harness fails it disables the entire srs system. The occupant is then at risk in a collision. This condition initiated on its own and is not the result of a collision. The local Toyota dealer relayed that it is a common occurrence and would cost over $2000 dollars to repair. It shows up on the obdii diagnostic as a right-side airbag squib. This code is as follows; b0106 code open in p squib circuit.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

On March 13, 2015 driving on I-95 south in a 2006 Toyota Sienna van the cruise control would not disengage when the brakes were applied approaching an exit ramp. The vehicle would not slowdown in spite of pressing the brake pedal as hard as possible. Moving the control lever forward to disengage the function was also not successful. The exit ramp was inclined so the cruise control accelerated the engine in an attempt to maintain our speed at 70 mph. The vehicle went thru a stop sign, bounced off the guard rail and came to a sudden stop with the engine not running. The impact destroyed the right side of the vehicle and the stopping was so abrupt that the cell phone (in my shirt pocket)flew out ripping the pocket off the shirt. Neither the front nor the side air bags were deployed. Skid marks made by the vehicle¿s right front tire (and possibly the rear right tire) prior to and after hitting the guard rail indicate the brakes were working on at least this side. Skid marks attributable to the left hand tires were not noticed.

11 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2011

I bought a Toyota Sienna 2006 certified used vehicle last Dec. 09, 2010. After driving for just less than 4 months I noticed that the srs light started to blink while driving to work. I informed my dealer 4 days later through email. But the lights went off a day after before I came down to his place and had been working normally for about 7 months. Then the issue came back again, brought it down to south coast Toyota and was told that code: b0116 driver side airbag and wiring loom need to be replaced for $3426. Toyota was informed but said it was not covered by warranty. I am severely disappointed as the reason I bought a certified used car and pay the price was the assurance that I will not get a lemon. But I was wrong and Toyota's assurance on quality of certified used car is purely crap.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

My airbag light began blinking on Sunday, 10/17/10. My vehicle is a 2006 Toyota Sienna. I took it to a local mechanic on 10/20/10 and was told the center squib needed replaced . . . Upon replacing on 10/22, was told that another error code was displayed indicating airbag replacement needed by a Toyota dealer. My car has just went over the warranty period at 62,000 miles. I am unhappy that not even 4 years after buying this vehicle in December 06, I am faced with repair costs that are large for a major safety problem that has been recurring from what I have read online with others driving an 06 Sienna. And as a mother of 3, I am unable to use my vehicle safely until this problem is fixed. I see a service bulletin for this but no recall. . Which it seems there should be for such a major safety problem.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

The srs indicator light began flashing on my 2006 Toyota Sienna on 09/20/10. The owner's manual states if this occurs, to take the vehicle to the dealership immediately. I was recently advised by cobb county Toyota that my airbag is defective and needs to be replaced for $2400. Since my 2006 Sienna has 76k miles on it, Toyota wouldn't cover it under the warranty. I asked how an unused airbag could be defective, I was told that it is an electrical component. That was the complete answer. So, I checked online. And, sure enough, hundreds of people all over the country are facing the same problem with their 2006 Sienna. And, no one has been able to explain the reason. I called the Toyota corporate office and the (no) customer service rep said that all she could do was document my concern. No manager could call or assist me. No one could send me a letter stating why an unused airbag is suddenly defective after only 4 years.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2010

Topic: Toyota acceleration problem: on July 4th at 10:00 am, as my 2006 Sienna Toyota was emerging from the dryer-end of well known carwash, the signal at the terminal point indicated that I was to move my car out of the structure. I shifted out of neutral into drive. At the instant I put the car into drive, my vehicle accelerated out of the car wash structure, missing about 12 vehicles and drivers in the parked area drying their cars. The police and witness said I reach 60 mph when I hit an embankment, directly across from the exit to the carwash property at the exit point, the embankment was across the busy street leading out of the carwash area. I turned slightly to the left, in a vain hope to slow my vehicle down; tearing off the front right side and wheel, the vehicle continued on, sliding down onto a busy road. In trying to avoid a busy intersection, I pulled up over the embankment at a lower grade on to a flat grassy area where I could take my right hand off the wheel and pull the gear shift into neutral and turn off ignition. Thank god no one was hurt. The vehicle was inspected by Toyota subcontractors and is being repaired to be returned to us. It will be impossible for me to allow my family or anyone for that matter to drive that car in the future, the car is worth more to us than to others. The tone of the inspectors and other contacts with the Toyota company was one of skepticism. I did not have floor mats in the car and I know the difference and location of my brake, contrary to their suggestions. I think it is interesting that the customer service and inspectors continue to treat their loyal car owners with such disdain and disbelief as if we are all liars. It is strange that the complaints are only coming from Toyota owners, but as one reporter noted Toyota drivers are an aging group and it has not happened to scion drivers. I hope that this problem is taken seriously by Toyota.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2010

2006 Sienna airbag light flashing. Tech identified defective passenger seat airbag assembly although auto was never in an accident. No reason for failure given other than "you never know about electronic systems. " the only way to reset the light is to replace airbag assembly at a cost of $940+ with diagnostic charge and with that you only get a 1 year warranty on equipment that originally lasted slightly over 4 years. As a consumer you would never think that you would have to replace an airbag unless there was an accident or possibly if you owned the auto for maybe 10+ years. In addition, the whole airbag system is inoperable although it has only been determined that the passenger side airbag is defective. Consequently, there is no option other than to replace the defective assembly. It is hard to comprehend why equipment with minimal wear and tear would break but from other reports this seems to be a not so uncommon occurrence for Toyota Siennas.
