Five problems related to service brakes have been reported for the 2010 Toyota Sienna. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2010 Toyota Sienna based on all problems reported for the 2010 Sienna.
When making turns at speeds higher than 30 mph sometimes on the freeway or especially when driving up a hill, the slip indicator light, vsc light and alarm sounds and occasionally will automatically activate the abs braking system (even while you're still pressing on the accelerator) which causes you to lose control of the vehicle temporarily. The abs activation does not happen every time, but when it happens, it is very scary. There are many people online complaining of the same exact issue and Toyota cannot find the problem. One person stated the problem went away once he replaced the entire rack.
When driving at freeway speeds and veering to right or left, the vehicle stability control (vsc) symbol lights up and beeps while a clicking sound can be heard from the steering column. When this happens, occasionally the brakes automatically get applied causing a brief loss of control.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Toyota Sienna. While driving approximately 30 mph the contact heard a loud roaring sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The rear driver side wheel seized up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the brake system in the rear drivers side would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 57,000. Da.
I was making a right hand turn in to a parking space in a parking lot. I had my foot on the brake as it was a sharp right turn in to the space and was slowly entering the space. When I was about 2 feet away from the parking block at the front of the space, the van suddenly accelerated and shot forward over the parking block and about 8 feet out in to a grassy yard in front of the lot. As it shot forward, I quickly checked to make sure that my foot was on the brake and not the gas pedal. It was on the brake and I was pushing the brake the entire time. The accelerator overrode the brake. I had no control over the acceleration. We took the van to Toyota where they kept it overnight. They told us they "were unable to replicate the problem". They verbally told us that there was nothing wrong with it and it was safe to drive. We asked them to put that in writing and they refused and said that they could not put that in writing.
Uncontrolled acceleration where depressing the brake pedal was "soft" and did not have any effect in stopping the vehicle. I was pulling into my garage and as I neared the point where I wanted to stop, I pressed on the brake pedal. This had no effect and the vehicle continued to accelerate. The vehicle proceeded through the other end of the garage. There is a drop from the floor of the garage to the ground on the back side of the garage. When the heavy front end of the 2010 Toyota Sienna went through the garage wall, it dropped to the ground and the vehicle was balanced like on a teeter-totter with 1 rear wheel in the air instead of on the garage floor. This position stopped the vehicle from continuing to move forward. I was unable to get out because the doors were locked and did not release when I tried to open the door. I called the local security force who came to my assistance. With the security force pulling on the door from the outside, I was able to get out through the rear passenger door. This has never happened before but the consequence was frightening even at the slow speed that I was going. I contacted my insurance company and though not finalized, it appears that they believe they would be able to repair the vehicle. Their repairs would be body work, painting, and a new front windshield. My concern is that these repairs may not address the root cause of the problem - that the brake pedal did not slow or stop the vehicle as intended.
