Recall on a sliding door not working/closing on a 2011 Sienna, had to pay to have door repaired to close. The door working is part of a company recall with the sliding doors not working on 2011 Siennas. Sliding door would not shut on the van. My daughter had to hold the door so that my family could get home. It was a major safety issue with the door, someone could have been hurt. We sent the invoice with the repair for the recall, we have waited for almost 9 weeks, and many calls to the company, and for the most part myself and my wife had to do the leg work to get this going by the company. This has been a frustrating experience, for one the safety issue for my family, considering the recall was over 1 year on this van is pretty ridiculous. And getting information about my case has been frustrating. It seems like Toyota did not want to take any responsibility for the issues with the reimbursement, issues with communications with this, it has been a frustrating situation. Especially we have to keep this van, and the company is not taking responiablity to resolve the refund of the van door not opening. This is not right by this company doing this.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

Fuel door hinge broke because the fuel door pin has so much tension that it broke the hinge. This caused a safety issue because the door cannot be opened from the inside if it is not closed all they way or pushed closed enough for the sensor to allow the sliding door to open. This event was reported past the 36 month warranty, but had begun before the warranty had ended. Current owners should be aware that if there are instances beginning of the door not being able to be opened, this should be an item covered under an extended warranty due to the safety issue of not being able to exit the vehicle in an emergency situation. This happened several times while parked and exiting the vehicle. There are other instances of this issue on different Sienna and Toyota forums. Toyota service manager confirms that it is excessive, but only resolution would be to replace cable with no guarantee it wouldn't have excessive force also. Only other resolution would be to have service bulletin issued by Toyota.

There has been a recall (NHTSA recall no. 16v-858) on the Toyota Sienna 2011 Mini van, our VIN number is 5tdkk3dc0bs096978. The power sliding doors in our van do not operate correctly, creating an unsafe environment for our young child. We are very unpleased at the irresponsible manner in which Toyota is handling this recall, as no solution has been offered to fix this issue. Though there is a recall on this vehicle, months have passed and we have not received any information from the dealership or Toyota as to how this defect will be fixed. We are very unhappy customers. Please contact us with a remedy whenever it is available, we want this fixed.

When car was purchased new we where told that a safety feature on this vehicle was that the rear sliding doors would not close while there was something in its path stopping it from closing completely. Ex. Child or body part. This morning while trying to reach behind him and attach his seatbelt my 6yo son hand got into the path of the door and his hand became stuck in its path instead of the door opening back to the open position it set there and continued to cycle to the close position.

I put the vehicle in park, yet although the shift is in park, the indicator says its in reverse, then the van starts rolling backwards. Shut off the engine and its like the van is in neutral, the van starts rolling down hill. Extremely dangerous I almost ran over a child behind me! I spent thousands of dollars to replace shifter cable, I later saw recall on 2014 model but 2011 model has identical problem.

My van came equipped with bridgestone p235/55rf18 tires. I had to replace them at 26,000 miles. The edges were almost worn through. I never had a radial tire go bad with that low mileage. Bridgestone and firestone offered no help. On line lots of people are unhappy. Bridgestone said they were made to factory specs. The local firestone dealer told we they were not good ties. I replaced them with same tire. No spare without a run flat is a safety is I could not find another run flat to fit. The van does not have a spare.

For years, my Toyota Sienna has had a beeping noise when I went over a bump, or when it was hot out and I had the windows down or when I put on my brakes. It goes off again when I begin to drive. It said it was the rear lift gate was ajar. When I google it, there are so many people with the same issue. Something is wrong with the sensor, it's a bad message that comes through. Toyota should offer to repair it. It is so annoying. I've had many mechanics look at it, and Toyota wanted to charge me $1500 for a new lift gate sensor. What a ripoff. On the internet most just disconnect the wire. This is a Toyota problem that should be recalled. It is constant now.

I'm contacting you to complain about the interim recall repair performed by Toyota, recall 14v-273. I had the interim repair performed in the summer of 2014 which involved putting the spare tire into the cargo area in the back of the van and securing it with a tie down. I have been unable to fold my seats back into the cargo area when I needed to and have a large portion of the cargo area occupied by the spare tire and tie down. For a short time I could live with this. But the recall was announced almost one year ago. I contacted Toyota today and the representative stated a final repair should be available in mid 2015. I would like the final fix performed as soon as possible. It is unreasonable to have this lengthy delay between performing the interim repair and the final repair. Can you please investigate this matter and urge Toyota to promptly issue the final repair?.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2015

Sliding power doors work intermittently and have needed to be forced open or closed on occasion. However I attempted to use the handle to activate the power door to open the door in order to place my son in his car seat, the door began to open, and then stopped after only opening an inch. The door ajar alarm began sounding. I pulled the door open packed my little one up in his car seat and went to shut the door. The door would not latch to stay closed and the door would move freely without the use of the door handle. The vehicle is now unsafe to transport anyone in as door can not be closed. At least this happened at home parked in the driveway. But if these doors are failing under normal circumstances I no longer feel I have a safe vehicle to transport my family in. Who knows what would happen under more stressful conditions. My husband had to tie the door shut in order to take the vehicle to the dealer where the expected repair part was $937. 00. I thought buying Toyota was buying quality but, I guess they don't make them like they used to. I'm not sure if this is a design flaw that Toyota needs to evaluate before someone gets seriously injured or loss of life occurs but, it's fours years old and door complaints, after doing soon research are nothing new. Next vehicle. . If I still need the passenger space a minivan has to offer I think I'll look at Honda instead.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

My car was recalled about 2 months ago for a temporary repair of the connector to hold the spare tire. This resulted in the spare tire being placed in the back-seat area of the van. This prevents me from using the fold down feature and full storage area. On October 20, 2014, I called their 888-270-9371 number to see how much longer before a permanent fix would be completed. I received a vague answer that it should be done in November 2014. I still wait a solution, and believe that this issue should have been long ago resolved.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

Toyota had a recall on it's spare tire cable and removed my spare tire to the rear inside of my auto. I was told a fix would be made to replace the tire cable and the spare tire would be placed back under the car. It has been almost a year and no fix has been made. I called my dealer several times and they tell me no fix is available. When are they going to get this fix done? I need the space the spare tire is taking. I purchased my car in wis. And live there 6 months out of the year.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Our 2011 Sienna had a malfunctioning rear passenger door. Rusted door latches were identified as the problem. How does a three year old vehicle have rusted latches? the repair cost over $1200. The customer service at dielhl Toyota dealership blamed the problem on weather. Wrong parts were initially delivered, the correct parts had to be sent in from CA, resulting in a three day repair job. The customer service rep. , joyce, did not even apologize for the delay and inconvenience. When I attempted to call Toyota directly to pass along my complaint, I was ¿lost in their automated phone answering system. I then contacted them via email, I am still waiting for a response. The dealership replaced latches and told us that all of the door latches on the vehicle were lubed. We checked the other door latches, and found they were not ¿lubed. This vehicle¿s manufacture quality certainly has not met our expectations or the Toyota reputation we thought we had purchased. Not only is the product performance poor, so is the customer service and support. This problem not only is a manufacturing issue, but could pose to be a major safety issue if early door latch deterioration results in defective locking an latching of rear passenger doors.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

Driving up driveway and closing rear window when the window exploded into thousands of pieces sending glass in every direction. Had a passenger been in the rear seat injuries would have been likely in my opinion. My concern is if this happens when someone has a child in the rear sear. The end result was small fragments of glass over the entire third row seating area.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

Driving approx. 45 miles per hour in the city and suddenly the passenger side rear back window (vent widow) shattered. First a very loud noise and then the glass shattered and went everywhere. There was no visible damage nor did there seem to be any external debris that could have hit the window. The road was rather smooth. Not sure if this is a common problem for windows or the 2011 Toyota Sienna.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

While driving down the road in the van with 7 elderly people it caught on fire and smoke came into the cabin via a/c vents. I pulled over and all 7 of us scrambled to get out of the van. Fire was pouring out from underneath and black smoke out of the hood. Within about 20 seconds after we got out, the van was fully engulfed in fire. The van was totally destroyed and only the metal frame was left. The fire investigator hired by my insurance company believes the fire started in the ecm. There were no warnings at all except the smoke in the cabin and from under the hood. We were extremely lucky to get out alive as we are all over 75 yrs old and not all of us in great health. The van is a total loss and my Toyota is aware of the event and a claim number assigned to us.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2013

The rear hatch structs blew causing the rear hatch to close automatically and forcibly. Luckily, only my husband was under the hatch at the time and could stop it from hurting someone. It would have seriously injured one of our children if they were under the hatch. It happened very suddenly and unexpectedly. There is an existing recall on older Sienna vans to for the exact same issue. The design change does not seem to mitigate against the failure. We also see that other vehicles including other 2011 vans continue to have this problem. We are asking you to contact the company to discuss the recall with them and see if the recall is not mitigating the risk of this failure. I would not want a child (one of the reasons in purchasing a Mini-van) get hurt with a hatch collapsing on them.

Nhtsa campaign 11v560000. . . . . . . . . . . . . My vehicle has a tow hitch and so the safety recall information provided by says to not place the new tire and loading information placard on the vehicle. The instructions provided by Toyota further state that: "the remedy for your vehicle will be available after may 2012. We will send you another notice when it is ready. " I called Toyota in June of 2012 and was told that the remedy was not yet ready and I would be notified when it was. I was provided this information by an individual named [xxx] at 800-331-4331 ext [xxx] and was given a case number [xxx]. This was over a year ago and still not response or action by Toyota. It feesl like they have no intention of resolving this issue for me. How long is reasonable to wait for a fix with a recall associated with potential overloading of the tire/wheel? thank you information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

On July 1st 2013 I received notice of a safety recall, due to risk of tire failure and a crash, when towing with my Toyota Sienna. The recall indicated that if the vehicle has a tow hitch, the factory installed tires would be replaced with new extra load tires. I had already replaced my factory installed run flat tires with new extra load tires after one of the factory installed run flats failed. I contacted Toyota on July 1st to request reimbursement for my expense. On 9/18/13 Toyota informed me that the dealer would inspect my car to determine whether it qualifies. On 9/20 dch Toyota inspected the car and informed me that the car is not eligible because my trailer hitch is not a Toyota brand trailer hitch. When I purchased this car, Toyota did not have Toyota hitches available and recommended we get one from hecht, which we did. Now we are told that Toyota isn't responsible for the recall because the hitch isn't a Toyota brand. I spoke with a supervisor at the Toyota company today, who verified this. This seems irresponsible and wrong. The car, with the factory installed run flat tires, was improperly rated for towing, making my vehicle unsafe to use for towing, regardless of the brand of trailer hitch being used. Toyota should be responsible for replacing the tires since the vehicle was improperly rated for towing unless the tires are replaced. Toyota insists that the national highway traffic safety administration approved their plan to replace the tires and render the car safe for towing only if the consumer is using a Toyota hitch. There must be some misunderstanding, and I am asking that you review and revise the agreement so that all owners of Toyota Siennas that were improperly rated for towing will be covered under the recall, even if their trailer hitch is not a Toyota-brand hitch.
