Had an engine oil leak on 2015 Toyota Sienna. Toyota deal diagnosed and replaced timing cover gasket. Still leaked, second repair by dealer was said to be to hairline crack in upper oil pan before repair authorization ( after third repair and my complaint) dealer stated it was really upper oil pan gasket - changed story). Third repair was to replace crankshaft seal and serpentine belt. Toyota dealer stated upon third repair that the crankshaft seal was bad and had sprayed oil all over engine and serpentine belt, serpentine belt was soaked with oil and deteriorated. Would this be a safety problem is the belt broke or slipped while driving. ? any other reports of this? ". Mp4" video clip available as ". Mp4" 9(contact marty. Barrett@comcast. Net).

A/c system has had problems since 2010, they replaced the belts & told me it was fine until the warranty expired. I have had recalls on all the doors, airbags &nav system replaced three times, 2013 a/c was replaced, 2016 a/c replaced again, & a/c is being replaced for a 3rd time along with two other recalls. Tire warnings are persistent. I've never worn out tires or brakes before, except with this vehicle at a rate of every 25,000 miles. (4times td).

Crankshaft pulley safety recall - 2005 Toyota Sienna -recall # 11v539000 more vehicles possibly affected than stated in recall notice. Dealer stated VIN did not fall in range of recall, although the defective crankshaft pulley part stamped with mark has been identified on my vehicle. Burning smell related to drive belt while driving and abnormal engine noise. Upon replacing new drive belt, the crankshaft pulley was inspected and shown to fail due the inadequate adhesive stated in the recall. Notified dealer, called Toyota representative and opened case#1611070038. Both dealer and Toyota refused recall since VIN was not in range. Toyota representative stated no photos or evidence were required to show the failed crankshaft pulley. Please used the details and photos attached for odi# 10924632.

My car has the exact symptoms for a recall involving a crankshaft pulley, yet my VIN is apparently not involved with that recall. My engine model 3mz-fe is involved with the recall yet Toyota service dealerships and Toyota customer experience both say it isn't. Currently my car is not safe to drive according to the service dealership and a fee of roughly $800 awaits me. I do not understand how my make, model, model year, engine model, can all be related to a certain recall, and yet be told that my car does not qualify for that recall. I've been a loyal Toyota customer for years recommending friends and family. Extremely disappointed, and most likely won't purchase another Toyota.
While driving on 4 lane highway, I began to smell burning rubber, then noticed that the battery discharge indicator light came on. Found that the serpentine belt driving the alternator and compressor had been shredded and and was hanging to the ground. Upon a closer look, the crankshaft pulley had failed (it had come apart). It appeared that the outer ring had separated from the rubber inner ring of the pulley and the outer ring had become misaligned. The misalignment appeared to have caused the serpentine belt failure. It also caused damage to the timing belt cover, the timing belt and the power steering belt. The battery light came on because of the failed serpentine belt. Fortunately, I maintained power steering because the power steering belt had not completely failed when I pulled off the highway. The failure seems to be identical to that covered by safety recall NHTSA campaign number: 11v539000. However, Toyota claims that my VIN number is not subject to the recall. Toyota's response to me does not make sense since this is the same model, same model year, same engine model, same parts manufacture (pulley contains the mark noted in the recall), same manufacture date (Feb. 2005), etc of the vehicles covered by the recall. Seems that the recall has not covered all of the vehicles affected by this failure. My vehicle was purchased new on September 15, 2005.
Takata recall ! I was driving Toyota Sienna on local street in boca raton when car had unexplained acceleration. Car struck a tree which caused the air bags to react. I had airbags stuffing in my lungs with contusion and in my intestines. My son had a bad contusion on right side from side airbag. My wife had to spend 17 days in a hospital because contusion on lungs and multiple bones. The force not her out of her seat on floor. Her seat belt cut into her abdomen. She almost died from injuries and incompetent medical care. My daughter was saved from severe injury because the side airbag did not function. This was a terrible holiday gift.

Fan belt started squealing upon engine start, took to dealer and replaced serpentine belt. Several months later groaning noise started coming from engine, suspected misaligned belt or bad pulley. Took vehicle to the dealer and they found wear on the exterior of the timing belt cover caused by the partial separation of the crankshaft pulley. Several reports online of owners experiencing this problem with Toyotas. Checked with dealer and Toyota customer service and they claim my VIN is not covered by the recall they issued in 2011 for the very same failure I am experiencing (11v539000). How is it possible that a known defect in their vehicles can be excluded because their experts have made the determination that the "cause" was a problem at one factory or part supplier when other owners that don't fall into the specific parameters have had the very same problem and were forced to pay for repairs out of pocket?.

Vvt-I hose broken, rapid oil loss and almost no oil left in engine when problem was spotted. Oil spilled to the belts around the vvt-I hose. When turn steering wheel, noise heard. This is the same issue to the other recalls but not applicable to Toyota Sienna. . Read more...

My wife was parking our 2008 Toyota Sienna with our 3 young boys in the automobile. She slowly brought the vehicle to a complete stop; never using gas, just covering and tapping lightly on the brake. Once the automobile came to a stop my wife pressed the brake a little more in order to put the vehicle in park. At that moment the vehicle accelerated incredible fast, jumped over an 8 inch concrete parking lot divider and crashed into a tree about 10 - 15 feet from the concrete divider. We are certain that this was a "sudden unintended acceleration" incident caused by some mechanical, electrical, programming or other defect in the '08 Sienna. This was not "driver error"! my wife did not confuse the gas pedal and the brake. This was not caused by a floor mat obstructing the gas pedal. This was caused by some type of a design or component defect. How can w be so certain? my wife and I have parked in this parking spot (located in our apartment complex) hundreds of times. To park in this parking spot you first have to make a left hand turn at a stop sign. This stop sign is about 30 - 40 feet from the parking spot, which requires that you make a sharp right turn. Once you press the accelerator slightly to make the left at the stop sign, you do not use the gas again. You simply tap and cover your brake until you make the right into the parking spot. Our vehicle came to a stop. In fact, upon "stopping" one of our 3 boys removed his seat belt immediately before the vehicle accelerated out of control. I'm asking for assistance from someone within Toyota or the NHTSA with knowledge of this flaw. My wife and kids were "fortunate". But this is a "fatal flaw" and something must be done.
Passenger side sliding door cable snapped and will not open. Passengers can be trapped in the van and not able to get out. This is a known problem with Toyota Sienna minivans with electric doors. In addition, the motor is often known to fail. The the cable has a black sheathing that is inadequate and wears causing it to jam in the pulley and break or exposing it to later corrosion and then it will break as well. Toyota has known of this problem for years and does not issue a recall. You only need to check the Toyota forum to confirm the problem with many owners reports. Repairs run $1,200 to $2,000 at the Toyota dealer.
While driving my Sienna ac quit & few miles later I saw white smoke come from under the van in my mirror. I tried to slow down & brakes were not working. I tried to pull over & power steering was not working. Without any warning light’s. After I pulled over, I walked to the back to see what the white smoke was. I noticed that the bumper cover had motor oil dripping down from the bumper & tail pipe. I noticed the white smoke was actually coming out from the front right side of the van. I ran to shut the engine off but I could not open the driver side doors. Luckily windows were opened due to the ac not working. I took the key out through the window & pulled the hood latch. By the time I got to the hood flames was coming from the right side. I could not open the hood, it was too hot. This happened in matter of seconds. Be aware that all this happened without any warning sound’s or light’s. I called 911. Just in minutes, the van was engulfed in flames & I had no chance to save anything out of the vehicle. The fire trucks arrived about 9 minutes, but by that time there was nothing left of my van. The fireman pointed out to me that there was an oil trail behind the van. The oil trace was visible for few miles. After they finished putting out the fire they showed me where the fire started on the van. It was the area on the left side of the engine around the belt. They said that the fire started from an oil leak on the engine and was started by the burst of oil spraying down on the and catalytic converter. Only two seconds of searching on google, I found out that Toyota is well informed of the hazardous defect. The rubber oil supply line unexpectedly burst open and spray’s the engine oil out in less than few minutes. I never received any recalls or notification about this serious defect from Toyota. Luckily none of my three kids was not in the van when this happened.
Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated that while starting the engine he noticed a squeaking noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated the crank shaft pulley had detached from the vehicle. There was a recall under NHTSA campaign number: 11v539000 (engine and engine cooling) that could have been related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Da.
While driving are 2008 Sienna Mini van with 51303 miles on it we had developed a sudden loss of oil from the engine. No check engine lights or warning lights came on notifying us that there was a problem. Observed that there was a large amount of oil loss in the driveway. Could track back where we were driving with the oil loss trail in the road. Did some research and learned that the engine in the Sienna is that same as that in several other Toyotas (avalons). I learned that that there is a vvi oil line is faulty on the engine. Toyota used a rubber hose which results in failure which then results in engine damage due to the oil loss. Toyota recalled the same party on the avalon and is aware that this hose is bad and needs replacement. Toyota issued recall on the avalons but is not issuing a recall on the Sienna. This is the same piece on the two vehicles. They then state that this hose with an average fails at 50-60000miles. They then stated that this hose is not covered under warranty. This hose bursting can cause engine damage and is also a safety issue. There needs to be a recall on this rubber oil hose on all vehicles. They know that this is a bad piece when talking with them. Also if it were to fail they then will state that since this hose caused the engine issues they will not cover it under warranty. This then results in people having to replace the engine in there vehicle for 5-10000dollars. When oil loss occurs it spays every where getting on brakes, belts, and exhaust which could cause an accident and or fire. Also resulting in serious engine damage. Toyota know this vvi hose is bad and issued a recall on the same hose on the avalons. A five minute search on the internet will show you the issues with motor and vvi hose. A recall must be issued on all Toyota vehicles with this motor which had the vvi oil hose. Thanks.
Complete loss of power while in motion entering freeway. Previously had noticed steering difficulty at times and engine light going on, but had always stopped after a short while. After the failure it was diagnosed as failure of crank shaft pulley. We found that Toyota had done a recall for this issue, but had not included our vehicle in the recall or notified us. Toyota denied coverage of the required repair. Driver and two small children in care at time of failure, just about to enter freeway. Over $800 in repairs.
The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. The contact was driving 70 mph when the timing belt fractured with no warning. The contact was not able to exit the road. Law enforcement officers were called to the scene to help the contact push the car off the roadway. The manufacturer was notified and advised the contact that they were unable to assist with the repairs. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop where the vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileages were 54,000. The VIN was not available.
A/c went out April 2012. Blows hot air. According to online forums this happens a lot in Sienna's - 2004 to 2006 models. We have 5 children in the vehicle and cannot take them very far even with the windows down or they could possibly get heatstroke. They are sweated wet by the time we get from point a to point b. We open all windows and the rear ones that only open 2 inches as well. . Read more...
At highway speed, all lights flicker on then lost all power. . . . . . . Oilline had leaked on alternator belt causing loss of power. Luckily power loss prevented engine damage from oil leak. We had not been notified by Toyota about the oil line problem or recall. . . . . Only after a local garage fixed the line did I find out about the recall. . . . I would had it replaced earlier if I had been notified.
I own a 2000 Toyota Sienna which I have had for one year. To date, I have paid to repair the rear seat, as once it was taken out, the mechanism broke and it could not be put back in the car. Also, we have replaced the drivers side seat belt (the whole thing) because the seat belt light would constantly blink. Now the passenger side seat belt light blinks when the seat belt is latched and when nobody is sitting there. The power sliding door has been looked at and repaired three different times. It continues to open, but will never close all the way. Both the drivers side and passengers side power windows will not roll down (or if they do, they will not go back up). There is a banging sound coming from the middle floor board by the gas pedal. The transmission has been replaced. Finally, the rear door latch broke completely and there is no way to open the rear door - from the inside or out. All of this is with normal wear.

To national highway traffic safety administration representatives, this e-mail is sent regarding my alert to the danger and safety concerns to citizens regarding the used car sales at Honda of fort myers, florida. Due to a "2006 Toyota Sienna" in fort myers, florida, that was sold as in very good to excellent mechanical condition and free of defects. It is been recently discovered that a major front end accident occurred on 11/16/206 in florida. The impact severity caused functionality concerns and defects to the airbags, airbag sensor, and seat belts which were never repaired properly from this accident and left damaged and defective. Sadly, the carfax history had only begun reporting this data on 10/31/2011. The owners or used car dealership neglected to disclose this facts and other severe defects, recalls, and damages that occurred to the engine. The internal damages and safety features were discovered through legitimate diagnostic by Toyota. Please help me to recover and obtain the police report or record held by law enforcement regarding the major accident incident on this vehicle that occurred on November 16, 2006, in florida. This vehicle may have been a salvage /re-titled but never appropriately and properly repaired for citizens use on the roads and highways. Carfax has provided no response to my e-mail to me but carfax began reporting this information on October 31, 2011. In addition, the VIN # has appeared in reports as an xle or as a limited model design which implies deception, used car dealership fraud, or misuse of the VIN # regarding doing the necessary, required, and correct repairs to make the vehicle safe to drive and perform safety recalls notices via certified mail sent on this vehicle to the owner or used car dealership at Honda of fort myers. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.
2004 Sienna hesitates wont acell when releasing gas pedal and reapplying gas just boggs down sits there for secs. And then goes afraid of getting hit when going around turns or pulling out in front of other cars just does not respond. Toyota performed 2 bull. Updates does not fix problem at all. Feel very unsafe in this vehicle have pulled off road a couple times to avoid getting hit by other car catching up very quickly while my car does not reponed to pedal. Note have talked to numerouse other 04 Sienna owners with same complaint concerns.

Vehicle made loud noise when engine runs which sounds like a hardened belt. Dealer replaced belt which did not fix the problem. Dealer replaced the pulley system which made most of the noise go away, but a slight belt like whisle can still be heard.
Engine--camshaft and belt.

This 2000 Sienna is a lemon. At 50 miles the torque converter needed to be replaced. At 100 miles I noticed that the van pulls to the left at highway speeds of 65 to 70 mph. At 28,000 miles the front tires firestone were all chewed up belts showing even though we had 3 alignments done in less than a year. The automatic side passenger door got stuck and would not close, dealer replaced door computer, at 15,000miles paint was chipping off the door handles and a short time later paint was chipping off the front hood as well. At around 20k the remote key/alarm started blowing fuses, it's been back 4 time to get fixed w/ nothing done to fix it. This is the circut that has the alarm, clock and dome light. From the very begining the trans. Sometimes would shift either hard or w/ a dely between 1st & 2nd gear then at about 30,100 miles the clutch cable was replaced. A clunk now happens when going from park to reverse esp. When on a hill. It still does not shift from 1st to 2nd right all the time. The sun visor, when it's covering the left drivers side window, will move and hit the driver when making a left turn at anything over 5 mph. So now every time I make a left hand turn one hand is on the visor and the other on the wheel, when I blew one of the front tires the aaa serviceman couldn't crank the cable that holds the tire back under the van, dealer replaced cable and other parts. The radiocd player skips a lot when going over bumps, have been waiting almost 2 months for the replacment. Mind you we've only had this van less than 2 yrs!!! other stuff, battery was replace within a year, why I don't know, change door keeps popping open (drivers left side) weather stripping on drivers side at the bottom on the car (not door) is falling apart. Head lights are either not aimed right when in spec. Or bad design. I think this is due to the way the lights are shaped, there is very little light directly in front of you but plenty of light on the 2 sides of the road.
