The driver's seat broke loose from the adjustable seat frame at the outboard rear bracket as I was exiting the vehicle. The weld did not fail. The failure was on the bracket next to the weld point. (this is the 2nd seat failure for me in less than a year! the other vehicle was a 2002 Jeep liberty, inboard rear seat bracket. ).

This has now occurred twice and has been repaired multiple times. The 1st time happened a few weeks after being purchased. I was traveling approx 45-50mph, began breaking for a yellow light when suddenly the woman in front of me stopped short of the light. To avoid hitting her I had to break firm but not slamming on the breaks. I stopped about a car length short of her and then felt an impact. I assumed I had been hit from behind by another driver but there was no car there. I pulled into a mall just ahead and looked behind the drivers seat to find the 2nd row seat, where 10 minutes before my daughter had been sitting, had collapsed forward, slid on the rails and slammed into the drivers seat. The seat was locked and unable to be moved in it's collapsed position. I suffered extreme whip lash and back pain. Since I was in-route to Toyota for more problems I went to the dealer who moved the seat back and claimed "my daughter must have played with it" after going to a new dealership and months of testing and back and forth Toyota replicated the problem and said the rails needed to be replaced but not the seat. They also had me sign off that they could inspect the parts and tell me why it failed. This never happened. Two weeks ago I was slowing on a steep twisting dirt road to stop before turning on a bridge and hear a sound like going up a roller coaster. Click click click. I braced bc I knew what was happening and again my daughters seat slammed into mine. This time not only did the rails fail to stop the seat but it again collapsed forward and this time the foot rest also unlocked and lodged under my seat. Luckily I did not have my daughter in the van this time either. 2. 5 years of repeated unsuccessful repairs to various parts (moon roof 8+)(radio/gps 5+)(squeaking/rattling rear seats 5+) liability report filed (4th) will contact a lawyer this time.

Third row back seat cover handle broke after two month recall . I own the car nearly 5 year , no problems with these ones . Until took the car to dealer recall about third row back seat cover , and after that two month , the handles , both side broken , took the car to dealer again to fix that . So they said they will charge around $200 . Serious about that the old ones no problems in 5 year . The new ones broken without two month after recall . What you think Toyota ?.

The middle seat in the second row of seating slammed down onto my 10 year old son's hand and severely broke and mangled his finger. He required surgery at a children's hospital the next day to repair it. The first and third seats in the second row shut and lock into the floor relatively safely, but the middle seat slams down like a guillotine. The car was parked and my son was helping clean it out.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Sienna the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the driver side middle seat abruptly flipped forward onto a child, causing the child to sustain a broken leg. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 44,356.
The contact owns a 2011 Toyota Sienna. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 16v858000 (structure). The parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. In addition, the contact observed an abnormal noise and movement from the rear seats. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I own a 2000 Toyota Sienna which I have had for one year. To date, I have paid to repair the rear seat, as once it was taken out, the mechanism broke and it could not be put back in the car. Also, we have replaced the drivers side seat belt (the whole thing) because the seat belt light would constantly blink. Now the passenger side seat belt light blinks when the seat belt is latched and when nobody is sitting there. The power sliding door has been looked at and repaired three different times. It continues to open, but will never close all the way. Both the drivers side and passengers side power windows will not roll down (or if they do, they will not go back up). There is a banging sound coming from the middle floor board by the gas pedal. The transmission has been replaced. Finally, the rear door latch broke completely and there is no way to open the rear door - from the inside or out. All of this is with normal wear.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sienna. While the contact was driving approximately 35 to 45 mph the middle row passenger seat detached, when brakes were engaged abruptly to avoid an animal in the road. The failure also caused the seat to tilt forcefully in a forward position striking the driver. The driver sustained injury to the neck and shoulder. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle with caution to her residence. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired when the complaint was filed. The mileage was approximately 72,000. 11/15/10
there is a lever that is use to adjust the angle of the seat back, including folding flat. There is a strap that can be pulled to release the seat allowing the entire seat to tilt forward in order to be removed. The problem is, the lever that allows the seat back adjustment can unlock the seat from the floor. This happens when the set back is tilted forward 15 or 20 degrees. The consumers wife was driving, when a deer walked into the road. When the consumers wife applied the brakes, the seat behind her tilted forward and the headrest struck her in the head. The consumer stated the seat tilt lever should not be allowed to detach the seat from the floor. Updated 11/24/10.

I own a 2004 Toyota Sienna. Since 7,000 I have been in numerous times to fix the middle passenger seatbelt. It becomes twisted and unable to retract properly. It has been replaced twice and un-tangled several times by the dealership. They have taken the seat out to repair it numerous times. It has had the recall done in the past. Recently it was brought back for another seatbelt replacement due to it being tightly caught inside the seat. When the car was returned to me, the same seat no longer locked into place. It was brought back to the dealership and I have been told they will not fix it because it was caused by crumbs being in the track when the seat was put back in. I have never felt safe but a child in this seat because I never knew when the seatbelt would not retract properly. I have tried talking with the dealership about repairing the seat however they refuse. This seat is not safe.

Since we purchased the Toyota Sienna xle about 3 years ago we have had nothing but trouble. Our biggest problems have occurred only recently. The automatic door was not working and the mechanic had to take off the automatic part so it had to be opened manually. Well after about a week of manually opening and pulling out my shoulder every time, the door knob came off. We have also had in the past a very loud squealing noise every time we started the car. We had the belts tightened and even had the battery changed and then suddenly it stopped. One of our captains chairs will not go back into the upright position. And lastly the bar that holds open the hood has come off and does not go back into place.
Right now our middle row seatbelt is not retracting. I see the recall notice and am taking it in. Our other issue is this. About a year ago, when the car was only two years old but over 36,000 mile warranty, our automatic sliding side doors began to malfunction. The one on the driver's side has to be manually closed and the one on the passenger side is sluggish to respond. We thought it was a battery or alternator problem. Both were replaced. The problem remained so we took the Sienna in to the dealer. The dealer reported that both door motors would need to be replaced at a cost of over $6,000.
This compliant is regarding two specific safety issues with a 1999 Toyota Sienna vehicle. On numerous occasions the rear hatch handle has broken. (3 handles so far) there is no release mechanism from the inside, so there is no way to get out the rear of the vehicle in case of fire or accident disabling the side doors. The part in question is poorly designed and is made of plastic. The plastic handle is under spring tension and accuates a metal part to release the door latch. The plastic is too weak to push against the metal part in normal use. The handle should also be made of metal to cure this defect. The latest and second safety defect involves the rear removable pod seats. The seat today will not lock in the normal seated position. An occupant can pull the seat up and out of the track if they lean forward enough. I would assume in an accident the entire seat would fly forward and cause serious injury in an emergency situation.

While lifting up the driver's side or passenger's side second row seats the seat spring jumped back forcefully and hard. Consumer drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the vehicle operated as designed.
We have a 2002 Toyota Sienna that we bought new from grossinger Toyota on 12/24/01. Has a 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. We went to remove the 2 rear seats to create more room to carry items. The rear driver's side came out with no problem. The rear pasenger side would not disengage. We brought it into grossinger Toyota today. Three technicians and a manager later, they told us we broke it. We told them that when we couldn't remove it, we brought it in to them so we wouldn't create any problems. It was then that the manager said they would contact Toyota tomorrow to see if it would be replaced under warranty. We couldn't understand how it wouldn't be covered under warranty, as this is Toyota's problem. This is also when he told us they have had other complaints about the exact same problem. Dealer is grossinger Toyota,6747 n. Lincoln Ave. Lincolnwood, IL 60645 847. 675. 7100. Manager is named steve. We are now waiting to hear back from grossinger to see what will happen. We are extremely unhappy with grossinger all together, as whenever we bring in an item under warranty, they say there is nothing wrong, yet they find a list of items to be serviced, all which require a charge.

Toyota Sienna 2004 - the 2nd row seats are "spring loaded" so that by pusing a lever, they will pivot forward to allow access to the 3rd row seats. The force of the spring is very strong and a child/infant could easily be injured if hit by the pivoting seat. I recommend a recall to retrofit the seats to a less powerful spring or piston type device.
While vehicle is in motion the sliding door automatically unlocks. Also, there is a safety device button located in the back seat designed for an adult passenger to get in and out of the car easily. But if a child's hand was to get caught in it, the hand would not be released since it back seat does not have a sensor switch to recognize a child's hand. This feature should be controlled by the driver.
Seat housings rattle.
