The 2gr-fe engine on my Sienna has experienced a front timing cover leak. It's slowly leaking oil out of my vehicle and I'm afraid it will get worst over time. My vehicle has less than 100k miles and if the leak persists, I down want my vehicle breaking down and leaving me stranded.

When decelerating, particularly on hills or into corners, there is an intermittent surge that occurs after the brake pedal has been depressed. It feels as though there is a release of the braking action, this is unsettling as if you are starting to approach a vehicle or pedestrian, this sudden "delay" of braking could result in contact with other objects. We have changed our driving behavior as a result of this. We reported this behavior at 5000 miles and there was not a solution until last year. We were not notified of this, and our vehicle is now out of warranty. Toyota has released as of last year a TSB related to programming and we are going to pay out of pocket $300 this week to get that TSB applied. This doesn't seem fair to consumers. . Read more...

The entune 3. 0 system governs navigation, calls etc. The system on my car has been replaced 4 times and still does not work. This is a life safety issue as the system grabs phone calls while driving without being able to answer. It also makes it frequently impossible to use hands free on the phone as it grabs calls. In order to avoid it grabbing calls I have to disable bluetooth on my phone which then causes my phone to not work in handsfree mode (ok google etc. ) furthermore the backup camera does not always work. Finally, a Toyota service manager told me in his oppinion 25% of the entune units are "bricked," non functional and need to be replaced. Toyota has fired according to him panasonic as the supplier and now has a new provider.
I was traveling on the capital beltway (495) during morning rush-hour in my 2019 Toyota Sienna minivan. Normal road conditions: stop & go traffic in the right-most lane around 9:30am on December 14, 2022. All of a sudden and without warning, when attempting to accelerate and keep up with traffic after the vehicle was stopped, I found that I was unable to move forward. (there was no indication that my vehicle was suffering from mechanical failure prior to this incident and no visible alert or alarm was triggered) at that point, I powered down the vehicle after turning on the hazard indicator lights. After re-engaging the ignition, I then tried to move forward, and found the vehicle to be unresponsive. A tractor trailer was directly in back of me and was inching closer as to keep up with the rush-hour traffic. I was immovable at that moment and waived the truck around. After finding a break in traffic, I attempted to move out of the right-most lane, but with the transmission not responding to the drive function, found that my only course of action was to to engage reverse and move to the right shoulder of the highway. I then notified triple a and my vehicle was towed to a local garage for evaluation. Upon initial evaluation is was determined that it was either related to where the shift cable goes in to the transmission, or complete transmission failure. It is highly unusual for a Toyota transmission to fail at 71. 000 miles (odometer reading at the time of the incident). I currently have two other Toyota vehicles with odometer reading in excess of 140,000 miles. I am concerned for the safety of my family and myself, as this is the primary vehicle used for transport. A 3 year old car with less than 100,000 miles should not suffer from transmission failure. This is a major safety concern. What if this happened and I was not in stop and go traffic or already in the slow lane, on a major highway?.

Massive oil leak and loss of oil pressure: oil line burst while driving on the hwy coming back home from a work. Loss nearly all of the oil, but there were no warning lights. Pulled over into gas station. Checked dip stick, completely dry! catastrophic oil leak without warning. Could have been stalled on the hwy and caused major accident. Tried to refill oil but it all leaked out as soon as I started engine. Research around the web and find out that this is a known issue to Toyota for using rubber vvti oil line - part # 15772-31030 now this part is made all metal!.

The transmission shift cable broke during parking. Although the transmission shift lever was moved to the park position, the transmission was not placed in park. The first observation was the vehicle started to roll when the driver was loading the purchases at a store. The parking brake was then applied. Then the vehicle engine could not be started, regardless of where the shift lever was positioned. The vehicle was towed to an independent auto service provider. The provider identified the problem as the transmission still in the reverse position and replaced a $10 bushing on the transmission cable with a labor charge of $510.

As a result of the transmission cooler being a part of the radiator system, the transmission cooler ruptured while driving causing immediate loss of power and the engine to overheat. This malfunction also caused coolant and transmission oil to contaminate the engine compartment as well as the transmission. This is a major iengineering flaw and safety issue as I was on the interstate when it happened and was stranded on the side of the highway until help could be obtained.

For a month prior, there were intermittent incidents of the van shuddering and the rpm needle jumping upon ignition. Sometimes the van would have a hard time accelerating before jerking and driving normally. No issues before this started in late July and no indication when/where would occur. •September drove the van all day running errands. It drove normally. Filled up the gas tank (gulf gas station), then continued errands. About a half hour later, while at a stop sign, a notification appeared that the “traction control system has been turned off” and the check engine light came on. Tried to move through the stop sign, but the van would barely go. Applied the gas, but no results. Able to turn onto a side street and had to have it towed to Toyota of irving. The service advisor stated the issue was due due to bad gas and indicated the van needed to be flushed and the fuel injection system cleaned. Paid $725 for these repairs. •September started van in driveway. Shuddering and rpm needle jumping again. Drove normally. •September same as above. •September drove the van all day with no issues. Filled up with valero plus gas. As we pulled out of the gas station and sitting at the light, the traction control message and check engine light again appeared. The van would barely go to get us through the traffic light and into a nearby parking lot. Once we parked, the screen displayed the following message:"a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. " had the vehicle towed to Toyota of irving. The service advisor called 2 days later to say they cannot detect any issues.

The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while driving 60 mph with her four children in the rear seats, the vehicle started jerking and decelerated independently. Additionally, the transmission was slipping. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving; however, the transmission continuously slipped out of gear. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was associated with Toyota ua80 transmission program. The dealer contacted the manufacturer who agreed to cover the repair of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Anyone: in 2013 I bought a new Toyota Sienna from fiore Toyota in hollidaysburg, PA. It was advertised with a lifetime engine and powertrain warranty. I thought that I had made a wise purchased. Fast forward to 2022. In early June I noticed a loud humming from the rear differential area and since I had a family vacation planned with my son’s family I decided to take it in for diagnosis to my local dealer, colonial Toyota of indiana, PA. They said that it was the electromagnetic control unit but could not get me in for over a week and that it was not advisable to drive long distance. This resulted in my rented a replacement vehicle – an unanticipated expense. When I returned I took the vehicle into colonial on July 7th and asked if the part would be covered under the lifetime warranty. They said they would check it out. There were several slow responses between the garage and the warranty company. Requests for additional service records, VIN numbers and what not. Meanwhile I am without a vehicle. Colonial had said that the part should be covered under the contract. Also colonial’s lifetime warranty was a different company than fiore’s insurer. Who knew? I had assumed that it was all a Toyota thing. Meanwhile after 8 days of no vehicle and another trip to colorado approaching, (granddaughter living alone while her husband is deployed in poland. ), I pulled the trigger and said fix the vehicle as I needed it. My thoughts were that it was a Toyota vehicle, serviced by Toyota “certified” techs at a Toyota garage what else would I need? the day after repairs were initiated, the warranty company says that they will need a 3rd party inspection to verify the defect. Just reinstall the broken part so they can hear it and then reinstall the new part or no coverage. Also this was to take place after I should have been half way across the country. Needless to say I didn’t do it. What good is a warranty that doesn’t trust Toyota techs? out over $2500.
June 17, 2022, driving on san diego freeway north near sherman oaks California, the transmission suddenly loses power, however the engine still running feels like the gearbox out of any actions, luckily it’s downhill, managed sliding to the shoulder stopped, the warning light says” turn off traction control”, and “ check engine “ it was rush hour, it was dangerous, after parked few minutes turn off and turn on the engine shift to drive gear the transmission only shifting to lower gears ( 1 or 2) moving slowly, so I managed get of next exit, and stop for few minutes, the I try starting again and driving low gear home, next morning I turn on the engine the check engine light still on but transmission acted normal, I drove to the northridge Toyota dealer, which is 2 miles away from my house, took them 3 day, to return to me, they said it was a coil issue and luckily they didn’t charge me,.
The contact owns a 2021 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle would jerk and swerve to the left or the right making the vehicle difficult to control. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that after decelerating the vehicle became controllable. The contact was able to drive to his destination. The contact stated that he had experienced the failure on three separate occasions. On the last occasion, while driving 70 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle ended up in the median striking the metal bars in the median. The air bags did not deploy. The contact did not sustain any injury and medical attention was not needed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to a tow lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

The last week of September 2021 my husband notice a sound like water runing and a leak on the driver and passenger seats, we take the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection on October 2nd. They said the ac hose was clogged for a spiderweb and the leak can create a mold. This mold can affect my family health. We informed to the insurance and we taked the vehicle to the dealer for repair. They did an expensive special cleaning to remove the mold, and disamble my entire vehicle, the worse is my vehicle still unassembled after 3 months at the dealership. All this happens with out any warning sign, symptoms or light. This vehicle is 3 years old and all services on time and by the same dealership. My vehicle has a lot of technology but not warning about this ac clogged and damage my entire vehicle wich still on repair.

Shifter broke at 55 mph wouldn't stay in 5 gear, was easily moved to r, n, and flopped around! won't stay in 4 now when used either, or park unless held when turning car off. No warning, shifted down for a hill, speed limit change, and corner in neighborhood as usual, no lights on in car. Just happened but upon research, have found many others with this problem online, same veh and same kind of miles. Toyota knows but won't recall their broken plastic piece and no notification to consumer.
I have a 2015 Toyota Sienna le that I purchased new from the dealer. The original michelin tires had excessive wear after less than 2yrs and ~28k miles. I replaced these with continental tires(rated for 70k miles) and after 2years and at ~63k on the vehicle miles I had to replace those with general altimax (rated for 75k miles). Each time tires were replaced it received and alignment. I now need to replace the third set of tires at ~88k for set number four. Additionally I had to replace the rank and pinion (complete unit), both tie rods and both suspension control arms and ball joint assembly and a wheel alignment. Can is adult driven mostly in town but has one long road trip on it (6k miles). This will be the fourth set of tires on a vehicle with less than 100k miles along with 5-6 alignments. All tires have been maintained and rotated. This has to be a vehicle defect as I have multiple tire manufactures, all rated for more than double the tire life I'm getting. I have $2000 in tires so far (not counting the originals) $1250 in replacing the front end components noted and now have to spend another $1k on tires.

En ocasiones el vehículo no frena adecuadamente, tiene ruido en la parte delantera y se aselera bruscamente cuando está en descenso por aproximadamente 5 minutos.
Rear differential has very scary noise while driving, mechanic identified that we have to replace the rear differential which might cost $2500 to $3000 the same problem do exist on rav4 and it's under recalls, while many people have the same problem for the same year like mine 2011 Toyota Sienna awd and other years to 2018 . This issue is the manufacture responsibility not the owner of the car as wear and tear items " my van has about 126,000 miles on it. Please a recall should be issued it is across for many people.

Grinding noise began from the rear of the vehicle increasing as acceleration increased. Took to the shop and found at the rear differential failed at 75,000 requiring replacement for thousands of dollars. The same year rav4 has been recalled for this already - the Sienna should have a recall also. The dealership had the part on the shelf, surprise surprise.
The contact owns a 2017 Toyota Sienna. The contact stated while driving 35 mph and coming to a stop, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated the brake pedal was rigid. The contact stated the failure reoccurred while driving. The brake warning light and traction control warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not determine the cause of the failure. The dealer advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the dealer she purchased the vehicle from. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer who sold her the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 14,500.
Vehicle began 'whirring' metal noise from underneath. Local mechanic said it was coming from rear differential. I took it to a Toyota dealer, they said rear differential coupler needs replacing ($2159) and drive shaft ($992). It seems the bearing ring inside this sealed unit has failed. Noise is continuous while driving, concern of part failure - we are taking vehicle on family vacation. Researching on - line it appears to be common problem with the Sienna's. Toyota had same issue with rav 4's and issued recall but have not for the Sienna's. I called Toyota corporate in TX (got up 3 levels) to no avail, and it curt tone, they said they cannot help. Based on other similar stories on line from other Sienna owners, this seems to be a common very expensive design flaw problem with this vehicle.
Loud noise from the rear end, diagnosed to be a viscous coupler bearing malfunction by my mechanic. Total cost of repair is 2428 dollars. In doing my research into this matter, this is a very common issue with my model Sienna. It is also common with same year rav4 which a TSB was issued and covered by Toyota t-sb-0080-13. To cite a transmission mechanics who have experiences with the rav4/sienna rear differential issues. . Read more...

The contact stated that the vehicle felt as if it was losing traction. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

Car has about 16,000 miles. When accelerating slowly from a stop, vehicle hesitates, shakes, and runs rough as it slowly progresses thru first, second, & third gears. After transmission gets in fourth gear, hesitation and roughness goes away. This issue is rapidly getting worse.
I was driving from toronto to virginia on 23 Dec 2020 and refilled gas in springfield NY walmart gas station to refill the gas. When I entered bedford PA turnpike, the car sounded with different sounds from engine on the ramp when entering the 70/76 freeway. When entered to virginia from maryland border after potomac river crossing on highway 15 , the car suddenly stopped while driving at 30 mph and pulled the car to the side of the road slowly and when I restarted the car, it started normal and drove till chantilly virginia without any stopping. But the engine gave me different noises.
Out of nowhere my vehicle started making a whining noise and then stopped moving then all these lights popped on my dash getting it towed to a shop to come to find out that the solenoids for the transmission had went bad thank goodness I was on a side road only doing 25 mph I couldn't imagine being on the freeway doing 65 when this happened there has been numerous numerous other reports have the same issue.

On October 15th at approximately 3:30 pm (CT) my 2014 Toyota Sienna was parked in my driveway with the engine on, unattended, when it moved forward up the slight incline of my driveway, struck another vehicle that was parked in the garage and kept moving forward until it struck the front wall of the garage. Prior to the accident, I had reversed the van out of the garage and left the van ignition on and in park as I exited. I know for certain that the van was in the park position since the automatic locks let me exit the vehicle without having to manually unlock them and the alarms did not sound as I exited. The van also did not roll forward ir backward as I exited. I then walked in front of the van to enter my house through the garage. I was in the house for less than 5 minutes when I heard the loud crash of the van striking the garage wall. My Toyota Sienna was manufactured on June 6, 2014. After the accident I discovered there is an active recall (recall: transmission shift cable/rollaway/fmvss 102) for an issue that causes rollaways effecting cars manufactured between June 17, 2014 through June 24, 2014. I took my van to Toyota expecting my issue to be related to this recall. Toyota had the black box inspected and the transmission inspected and determined they were not liable since they were not able to replicate the issue and did not find any defects. When I took my car in originally the technician stated that there was not a good way to determine if the shift cable was defective and they were simply replacing the part as part of the recall, which my car did not qualify for since it was manufactured 11 days prior. A car should never move itself from the park position and something has to be faulty with the car in order for it to do so.
Transmission has begun sliding.
The shifter locks up in park and won't come out of gear. If the van is running or off it won't come out of gear. Having the parking brake on makes no difference. Have to rock the van back and forth to get it out of gear.
Viscous coupling bearing making significant noise. Potentially hazardous if the issue causes the drivetrain to lock up.
On inclines, the vsc light would come on, clicking noise near the steering column. The car would lose power. I have mechanics checked out. Cv joint and ball bearing replaced. Problem persists.
Driving 55mph on frwy, van started smoking in the rear and oil on back of van. Slowly drove short distance home and lights on dash came on upon arriving home. Oil leaked on street where we parked. Had mobile mechanic look at it. Oil cooler hose had burst. He replaced it, we drove the van 50 miles on short trips. When on frwy, it happened again about 3 wks later. Had towed home. Same hose busted again. Looked on internet sites & found same problem has occurred to many people with same van year. Longterm ongoing problem. Called tejas Toyota in humble, TX and svc mgr said Toyota offered an extended warranty (knew there was a problem), but it ended at 100,000 miles/10yrs (we have 120, 900) and is 2007 van. We've already had it towed and fixed twice. We're recovering from near death/covid afraid to drive it since we can't trust it. Based on internet stories by others with same problem, & svc mgr at Toyota opinion, fear is warranted. Our van was repaired 2x w/ same type of inferior hose put on van when built by a mechanic not at Toyota. None of us realized inferior part was the problem. Now we need to repair it again with a "kit" that Toyota specifically made because this is known problem after we spent many 100s of $s repairing it using same type part when built. Wouldn't fix it when I called in 2015. It had to break 1st per Toyota when I checked on it in 2015 when got notice. Toyota should repair it at no cost & reimburse me for the expenses I've already had. My husband had covid and almost died and it happened the day after he was released from a month long covid hospital stay and again when I was taking him to therapy for covid 3 wks later. We could have had a accident, been injured, when the van stops with no notice or warning lights. Toyota corp. Takes no responsibility. It's our problem, not theirs. Can't drive van. Will happen again w/out warning. Help please!!!.
The rear viscous coupler on the awd had gone bad and needs replacement. This part is the same defective part on the rav 4 that had an extended warranty coverage due to bad design but is not covered on the Sienna. This part needs a recall.
Car was in motion, turning to park on slope parking area then gear fall out and rolling backward, therefore try to shift into parking gear, all gears didn't work, gear shift was not working at all then car rolled downhill to other side of curve. To prevent accident I got out to stop the car from rolling by holding on to the rear door handle, could'nt stop it, in the process I had injury to my left shoulder and back.
