Tailgate Latch Problems of Toyota Sienna

2006 Toyota Sienna rear hatch failure. The struts failed and the electronic rear hatch motor closed the hatch on my head and would not stop! my van is still under initial warranty. Toyota said that will not have replacement parts for at least a month. They have no temporary fix. They told me to use a stick to hold open the hatch. Note: if this stick falls out the hatch will fall on my head!.

I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan which the tail gate door will not stay open and has fallen down on me, I was not injured, but my grandchildren ride in this car and sometimes leaves things in and should they go in this car without my knowing. They could possible get killed by it coming dowm automatically on them, and you can't stop it from closing. If you open it manually it will not stay up you have to hold it open with one hand and grab what you need with the other and then it slams down hard and fast. This is a possible life threating door,it could crush and kill someone instanly, or sever a limb. It needs to be recalled. !!!!!!.

I own a 2004 Toyota Sienna xle minivan. The rear hatch on my van unexpectedly close by itself when it was in the "open" position. The door came down on my shoulder as I was unloading the van and promptly went back up.

Our 2004 Toyota Sienna xle rear door does not stay up. It rises automatically, holds for a second or so and then starts closing. It takes a lot of force to stop. It has been doing it fairly consistently lately. The first ominous sign was in the summer when it was not opening as high as it used to.

The lift gate of the back of my Toyota Sienna 2004 fell prematurely while I was loading in the rear trunk.

I have 1998 Toyota Sienna. When opening the rear door the handle broke off in my hand! in looking for the replacement part on the web I see that many owners have this problem. It looks like a serious design flaw, and dangerous because in an accident the rear door can't be opened at all! what can be done about this?.

Rear door handle on 1998 Toyota Sienna van broke off during normal use. Door can not be opened from interior or exterior now. This presents a significant danger to passengers in the event of fire and or accident as egress from this door is unavailable.

Rear door latch on 98 Sienna broke when being opened normally. No excessive force was used. Rear hatch is now unable to be opened from inside or out in an emergency.

Outside handle for rear liftgate broke when I attempted to open. The liftgate was then locked and remained that way till fixed because there is no inside release. This created safety issue. Dealer installed new handle unit at cost of $250. 00 saying "normal wear and tear".

Driver's side door handle, both sliding door handles, and rear hatch handle have broke or are still broken. Driver's handle and one side door handle have been super glued to make operational.

Outside latch release on rear liftgate broke when I attempted to open liftgate. This caused us to note (as we had never before) that there is no inside release for the liftgate, which could be a major safety hazard in case of a crash where the rear liftgate might be the only way out of the van. We feel strongly that Toyota should have to correct this safety design flaw in all 1998 Sienna vans, and that it should have to pay for our repairs in this case.
