43 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

The catalytic converter shield on my 2005 Tacoma fell off while driving and almost caused an accident. After picking up the large metal parts and inspecting under the vehicle, I noticed that near to where the catalytic converter sits, that there was extensive corrosion on the truck's frame and even a large hole. I am extremely worried about the safety of the vehicle and am afraid that the frame may crumple while driving causing an accident or death. Toyota is aware of the issue. I contacted the corporate offices, but was told that Toyota is only replacing the frame on vehicles registered in what they have designated as a "snow state". I purchased my Toyota at a dealership in illinois (a "snow state") and have done a lot of travelling within the "snow states", yet because I live 25 miles away on the missouri side, Toyota is refusing to cover the repair. The woman from Toyota corporate did not seem to care when I told her that I was worried about the safety of the vehicle and that it could result in an accident or death. I offered to email the photos of the frame corrosion, but was rejected. Toyota needs to cover this repair on all vehicles with frame corrosion regardless of the state they live in.

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

The frame of my 2005 Tacoma has developed a hole. I have only owned the vehicle since March of 2013, and have complained about it to the dealer since a month after buying it. The metal is flaking off all over the frame and Toyota has issued a limited service campaign, but they are claiming they can not do anything until they move the campaign to my area. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. But I have to, and will not even let my family in it anymore. I have 4 years of payments and a truck that is wasting away. Please help push Toyota to move this campaign along as fast as possible, or make it a full recall.

49 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. This is my second Toyota truck and I do really love my truck. My last pickup was a 1999 ext pickup with a lot of rust on it when I qualified for a buyback deal. Last week I brought my 2005 into the kenny ross Toyota dealer in coraoplis, PA to have them inspect my vehicle. The inspection revealed a large structural hole in the frame of the vehicle. It is on the driver¿s side where the frame rail curves down. This is one thing that is keeping it from getting a inspection sticker. This is a major safety issue and I would not recommend driving the vehicle in its current condition due to the structure of the frame. This is a serious safety issue. If this section of my frame was to fail, which I believe is completely possible; it will result in a major accident. I would like to believe that I can trust Toyota USA to take care of this issue. I am at this point basically left with a beautiful, great running and completely unsafe Toyota Tacoma. I feel strangled, violated, and taken advantage of. $25,000 plus investment on a truck that is a possible scrap heap at 9 years and 167k miles. I can't sell it and get a fair value knowing the frame is rotten. The dealer won't take it back on a trade in either. I put in a claim that Toyota bears no responsibility for the frame since it is out of warranty. All they is offered me $1500 toward a new Toyota vehicle which doesn¿t help my current problem. The dealership seen potential frame issue and didn¿t even take any photos of it and/or then pass them onto a field rep. As I understand, if the field rep deems the photos of interest, an appointment will be scheduled for when s/he is next at the dealership. The field rep can either then reject or escalate it.

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

I took my truck to get it inspected and they said there are holes in the frame a large as my hand. It will not pass inspection and cannot be driven. I have been driving my 2 little sons around in this vehicle which has been unsafe for a long time. The holes are big enough to have started years ago as a small hole which make the truck undrivable. I have a nice looking truck that cannot be driven. The 1st generation Tacomas were recalled for this same reason. What is Toyota going to do?.

53 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2014

I was pulling into a curb parking space when suddenly the engine on my truck accelerated. My foot was already on the brake so I pushed all the way to the floor but I was slowly moving forward anyway. 55 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

The frame on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma pre runner is completely rusted out due to a flaw in the manufacturing process. The recall was 3 months past the date of the end of the recall. Now my vehicle has large cracks in the frame and is no longer safe. This issue still exists in the 2005 model and must be addressed for public safety. There was a recall that covered this problem up until the end of 2004. Mine was purchased in the beginning of 2005. This is a known problem with this truck and is being ignored by Toyota. They are failing to repair this and picking and choosing if they infact want to repair some trucks and not others. Toyotas options on the fact that my truck has a manufacture defect that is unsafe to drive. Please help!!.

58 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2013

Started hearing rubbing/grinding type noise coming from front end. Inspected and found lf cv axle leaking grease, so thought the noise was coming from there. Replaced lf cv axle, and the noise did not go away. Inspected further and found drivers side frame where the motor mount bracket is welded to cracked, causing the motor to flex and the fan to rub on the fan shroud. Contacted Toyota, who instructed me to get it inspected at a dealership. Took to Toyota dealer, who told me there was no evidence of driver abuse, no rust, not really anything that showed why the weld had broken, but that Toyota did not want to do anything due to aftermarket lift and oversized tired. Lift was already installed on vehicle when purchased at a Toyota dealership. Toyota corporate told me they did not want to help because vehicle is out of factory warranty. The steering shaft is directly under the part of the motor that is sagging down, and I am afraid if it were to break completely it might stop the vehicle from being able to turn. Also, is there now extra stress on any of the wiring? is it flexing and potentially breaking any fuel lines? I have done some reasearch on this, and found a lot of peolple having the same issues with their trucks. Toyota has started putting updated frames with more support for the motor mounts on the 2007 models, knowing there were issues with the 05/06s, but are refusing to acknowledge the problem and fix the ones that have broken.

64 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

As I was leaving work I slowly drove over a speed bump. The rear end of my truck began to bounce like a boat in choppy water. I got out and looked to see if I had a low tire. All four tires were fine so I kept looking. Upon closer inspection to the left rear wheel well, I noticed that the shock rod had broken off at the theaded end and shot straight through the bed of my truck. I immediately took the truck to glenn Toyota for inspection. Initially they took great interest until after they learned that Toyota manufacturing would not cover the catastrophic failure. Now the truck rides like a boat in choppy water and even the slightest bump in the road causes an exagerated response in the suspension making it dangerous to drive. There is no previous history of damage to the vehicle nor has it been mistreated.

67 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

I have a hole on the inside of box frame next to the cat. Convertor on driver side. This was discovered back in January of 2013, and was immediately reported to the Toyota rep over the dealership. I've inquired about the situation 3 times since then and have just gotten the answer that its under investigation. This hole which I can almost stick my fist through looks to be located in the crumble zone, and is in a high stressed part of the frame. I know Toyota has recalled first generation trucks for frame rot, but why haven't they recalled any of the second generation trucks for the same issues. You can search the web and find that I'm not alone when it comes to frame rot on the second generation Tacoma trucks. Toyota needs to buck up and fix these issues before someone gets severely injured or killed due to the defective frames. People spend the extra money on Toyota vehicles for quality durability and longevity. I work for a Toyota production plant and I can't imagine that they are avoiding such a dangerous issue that needs to be resolved ASAP. I hope that the national highway transportation looks into this and forces a recall before lives are lost!.

Truck began making loud noises in engine compartment. Truck was diagnosed as having bad motor mounts. At time of repair, motor mount assemblies were noted by mechanic to have broken off the frame due to bad/weakened welds. Motor is rubbing on fan/radiator shroud. Owner has done independent research, including complaints filed on this site, and has noted that this has been an on-going issue with 2005 Tacomas.
