Air Bag Light On problems of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

The airbag light just turned on. Cruise control on steering wheel is not functioning, audio control on steering not working also and lastly the horn is not working also. Looks like a spiral cable problem based on the symptom and validation of discussion group online. Checked for recall here and seen my VIN number on the range for recall. Why did I not received any recall notice on this. Not sure if the vehicle is unsafe to drive considering the airbag deployed light is on or if this will affect the airbag deloyment if needed. This happened just recently and there are issues similar to my case. Hope it can be fixed by Toyota.

I have the airbag light on for about 6 months or so now and I am concern about my safety, me and my family. I checked, my car's model is not under the airbag recall but it is an important issue to be fixed.

I got my air bag light on, solid light now, I conected the scanner and read code b1801. I checked in internet that could be a recall for some trucks. I went to the dealer and it doesnt show that my truck has that recall on. I need to do my smog and now because I have the airbag on I can not do it. Can you guys help me. . Air bag light is illuminated on dashboard this will cause air bag not to function in an accident. Can sometimes hear loose spring sound coming from steering wheel when making turns.

The contact was displeased to know that the vehicle had to remain at the dealer after waiting for five weeks to schedule an appointment for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Airbag light on. Had vehicle diagnosed by independent mechanic. Said vehicle needs new spiral cable (clock spring). Called dealer for recall information and was told that there is a pending recall out sometime this summer 2012 but if wanted to repair now would be at my expense. Why no action on known problem. There are even ads on ebay to repair the spiral cable and/or connectors. One such vendor has done hundreds of repairs.

The failure caused the air bag light to illuminate. The mechanic replaced the squib wire in order to get the air bags to operate properly. Vehicle was recalled for spiral cable which could result in airbag light staying on. Toyota has a problem with the airbag and are using the spiral cable as an excuse to get you in and then charge you for fixing their faulty airbag. Toyota should be recalling the vehicles for faulty airbags not spiral cables. The more investigation I do the more I can see that many others have the same problem and are being ignored by Toyota.

Drivers side air bag light remains on. Diagnosed as a failed spiral cable. Toyota motors through their dealer ship refuses to acknowledge any responsibility (romamo Toyota, syracuse NY ) internet research indicates that this a common problem amongst Toyota vehicles and especially 2006 Toyota Tacoma's this is a safety issue. Why has this not been a recall item?.

Airbag light stays on for no reason. Never a vehicle crash or airbag deployment. Only 49,800 miles. Spiral cable/clock spring sensor. . I have seen many on this site and after researching, knew mine failed. This should be a recall. Toyota charged me $565. 40 to repair. Please recall this obvious defect. . . .

Copy of letter to Toyota concerning a defective spiral cable and electronic circuit; feels this part should have been repaired and covered under a special safety warranty or recall; enclosed automotive part fwd to nvs-200 the consumer stated the air bag light illuminated 12 days after being at the dealership to have a recall problem repaired. The dealer informed the consumer he would have to pay $88 to diagnose the problem. The dealer stated the problem was due to a broken spiral cable and electronic circuit underneath the horn which would cost $ 496 in addition to the $ 88.

2006 Toyota Tacoma double cab, v-6, 4wd. I bought this truck new from palmer's Toyota in mobile, al. At 72,000 miles, the driver's side airbag light came on. Took the truck in for service and it was determined that the spiral cable in the steering column was bad. The cost to repair is in excess of $500! I chose not to repair at the time - have been driving with the light on for a week now. Service rep said that until repair is made, my airbags were "disabled". It appears that alot of Toyota owners are experiencing this same problem. What are the chances that this could be investigated and possibly Toyota issuing a recall for this?.

I own a 2006 Tacoma,recently the driver side airbag light came on. Went to dealership they told me the spiral cable in the steering wheel needed to be replaced would cost about $550. To replace. Needs be a recall.

2006 Toyota Tacoma sr5 dbl cab, 6 cyl, 4. 0 eng. 65k miles, 2 wheel drive, automatic transmission: driver side airbag light turned on and stays on. I have searched the internet for info. On it and have found a lot of people have been having this problem. I had it reset by a couple of different shops and the light comes back on. Going by the info. Found on line, from google to newsgroups. The Toyota dealers are just charging for the same work done and not admitting a product defect. I am taking mine to the dealer and is $117. 00 just to diagnose it. . And I know this takes them 10 min or less to hook it up to the computer and get the error codes printed. We the consumers need some help. And I and I'm sure everyone else that has been having this problem would greatly appreciate if someone can look into it. I know there is a recall for the side curtain airbags. . But I don't think mine is equipped with those. I have even read that there have been instances where the bag deploys for no reason, while the truck is been driven with that light on. . Airbag light came on, stays on, dealer acknowledges failure, air bag won't deploy. Diagnostics show "clock spring/spiral cable" needs to be replaced. Cost $100 diagnostic fee and $654 to fix. Cannot afford to fix at this time. I have no airbag in the event of a collision. This part failed simply from normal turning of the steering wheel. Air bag light stays on. I have owned 5 Toyotas and my air bag light has never come on. Took vehicle to Toyota of redlands, calif on 1/28/2020 for check. They reported that the spiral cable has failed. Cost to replace $523. As I stated I have owned 5 Toyotas and have never had this problem. I believe thepart to be defective and it should be investigated by your organization. Toyota should be made to replace defective air bag system parts up to 100k miles of a vehicle. Can you tell me if there has been many problems of this nature reported and if so do I have any recourse with Toyota. Thank you.

I was operating the vehicle on the highway at about 70 mph and the airbag light (airbag srs warning! according to the manual on the truck) came on. I immediately took it to the dealership because I was literally minutes away. The service technician knew exactly what repair needed to be made without even doing an inspection. I was informed that the "spiral cable" either shorted out or broke, and that my airbags would not function until the $400. 00 part was replaced plus the cost of labor because my truck is no longer under warranty. I don't feel that a component as vital to the driver and passenger's safety as the airbag is should be subject to costly repairs unless it's actually been deployed. The vehicle has never been in an accident. Nothing has been done to correct the problem as of yet, it only became an issue today.

We purchased a 2006 Tacoma on Dec. 23, 2008 from competition Toyota in new york. We drove the truck back to wisconsin that day. Two days after purchase date (approx. 1500 miles later), the airbag light came on. Having a busy schedule, and not using the truck much, we brought the truck into marquart Toyota in eau claire, WI on March 18, 2009. They assured me that it would be covered under warranty as long as it were an airbag problem. Turns out they charged us with $94. 95 for the problem to be diagnosed. A spiral coil that allows the steering wheel to turn while still keeping the airbag connected broke. They quoted me $483. 19 for the repair of this coil. Due to this broken coil, none of the airbags in the truck work. I called Toyota customer service to resolve this issue. After two weeks of deliberating, Toyota told me that this would not be covered under warranty. I reminded the representative whom I was speaking with that all safety related defects are to be covered in entirety by the manufacturer. None of the airbags in this truck work because of this coil, sounds like a safety defect to me.

Air bag light stays on. Toyota dealer claims restraint system warranty only good for 36,000 . My truck only had 51,000 Toyota dealer claims airbags will not open in front crash due to airbag light being on. I contacted Toyota motor CO. They were going to speak with the dealer, they never contacted me in any way. Dealer called and said Toyota motor corp. Would not take care of problem.
