1 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2017

I went to my mechanic for a small repair recently and he informed me (and showed me) extensive rust on the frame and a major split in the frame from the extensive rust. He has told me that perforations are imminent in the frame and that the frame will need to be replaced. He also found rust damage to my brakes, rotors, paint (chipping with rust), wheel caps, and tailgate. He informed me that I cannot safely drive this truck on dirt roads or haul anything. 75% of the roads where I reside are dirt roads. Cost of frame replacement would exceed what I paid for the truck; I have owned this truck for 6 months. I have contacted Toyota and a local Toyota dealership for assistance, but have yet to hear back from either. I understand there was a class action lawsuit that was settled in 2016 for this very issue. Toyota needs to replace the frame of my truck and repair or replace all of the affected parts of the truck due to the extensive rust damage. I use my truck to travel long distances in order to take care of my mom who lives 600+ miles from me; my mechanic has informed me that it is not safe to drive this truck for long distances. This has a substantial impact on my daily life and my ability to take care of my mom. I do not believe I should have to bare the responsibility or liability of the damage caused by deficient parts used in the manufacturing process. Toyota should be made liable for these damages. Please advise. I will be contacting my lawyer.

2 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

2006 Toyota Tacoma tailgate is dangerously weak, and is unable to support what most consider normal weight for a truck tailgate. Although substandard design may be considered "buyer beware", truck buyers expect a tailgate to support the weight of normal truck use activities. Toyota provides no warning or caution anywhere that the tailgate is of insufficient strength to perform normal 1/2-ton truck duties, and typically (per internet forum threads) tells their customers that it is their problem and that they should not expect to be able to safely use the tailgate for anything more than hiding the inside of the bed. Since Toyota has produced a substandard designed part, they should have provided a visual warning on the part to alert customers to the danger their product imposes if used in a traditional manner. Since they did not do so, they should be held liable to provide a redesigned part to their customers or full restitution for the purchase price of the vehicles. A google or similar internet search on "tacoma tailgate forum" will substantiate my statements beyond my personal experience with the tailgate bending.

3 Tailgate problem

Toyota claims that the tailgate is just a door to the bed but on its own website sella a "bed extender" that utilizes the tailgate for more bed space.

4 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2009

The frame of the truck is very rusted and pitting and I feel that this will cause frame failure and I also am on a second tailgate first one bent in half .

5 Tailgate problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Vehicle 2006 Toyota Tacoma with towing package factory installed. While loading a 450 lb motorcycle into the bed of a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, using a motorcycle ramp, the tailgate completely collapsed by bending into a u shape in the middle causing the motorcycle to come falling down and injury two persons that were loading the motorcycle. All weight limits were checked in the owner manual before loading and the same motorcycle had been loaded into 3 other trucks of same size before with no incidents. I believe that the tailgate of this particular vehicle is unsafe and someone could be seriously injured or death could have occurred in this situation.
