The frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma (VIN: [xxx] ) is severely corroded and compromised. I recently acquired the vehicle and discovered that it was part of a past Toyota recall/program for frame corrosion inspection and replacement. However, it appears the previous owner did not take the vehicle in for the service. The frame now shows advanced rust and structural weakness, which puts my safety and the safety of others at risk. I am concerned that the recall program was not adequately communicated or tracked, and I am requesting that the NHTSA review this issue for potential reopening or expansion of coverage for affected vehicles like mine. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed. Thanks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the state inspection because there was a hole approximately 3-inches wide on the driver's side of the vehicle near the catalytic convertor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed that the hole was caused by extensive rust and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was a recall issued twice; however, the recall had expired. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Frame and others components are very rusted.
Toyota Tacoma 2006 trd, this vehicle was recalled for rust to the frame on 10/03/2018. The frame was replaced by sheehy Toyota of fredericksburg, virginia. The work was done and completed con 02/07/2019. The vehicle supposedly was thoroughly inspected for any problems by the dealership. Then released to me after the work was done. Then in November of 2019 I moved from virginia to nebraska. Used this truck to move with and pulled a trailer over 2,000 miles with it. Little did I know my life was in danger due to negligence by the dealers service department. Recently I replaced the rear bumper on this truck. By doing this it fully exposed the trailer hitch system on the truck. This is when I clearly seen that a part of the trailer hitch was completely rusted through. When replacing the frame on this truck the dealership had to notice this severely damaged part. Yet they did not inform me of this situation. If they had, I would have had the part replaced, due to the chance of it breaking which could have caused an accident. This is nothing short of pure negligence on the part of this dealership. People could have been severely injured or killed due to this negligence. I have pictures of this part just the way they left it.
I went in to get my truck worked on & was told it was not safe. The frame is rusted and cracked. I did not receive a recall notification. Now, I have a broken truck and cannot afford to buy another vehicle or pay to repair this one. This is a safety hazard for the other people on the road and a death trap for the owners with vehicles that Toyota will not stand behind.
There are holes in the frame and the frame mounts. Sold with a clean title.
This truck is for sale in oregon with holes/rust on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. Buyers beware!!!.
The frame is rusting out over the right rear wheel. It had the frame spary ,but iti is still rusting out.
My frame is rusting with parts falling off in my drive. Toyota told me in 2017 the frame did not warrant repair.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while having the vehicle repaired under recall, the mechanic stated that the subframe was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 50,000.
1. Frame was replaced under recall due to excessive corrosion, and now it's corroding again and should be replaced. Also the trailer hitch is excessively corroded and was not replaced during the recall. I pull trailers all the time with this truck and don't want there to be failure with the hitch due to excessive corrosion. 2. The body paint and clear coat on this vehicle is weak and needs constant attention, and the body material turns to rust right away. This subject needs attention.
I recently bought this Tacoma used and just found out from my local mechanic that the frame is severely rusted and likely unsafe to drive. I immediately scheduled a frame inspection with Toyota. They confirmed that it was very unsafe to drive and gave me a quote of $14,711 to fix it. This is more than the value of the truck. Although Toyota acknowledged that there was a service campaign for rust issues on these trucks they said it had expired and there was nothing I could do.
Never received recall on frame, why wasn't I sent a recall and why don't dealership notify me when leaf springs were replaced?.
The mechanic noticed rust the frame was rusty so recommend I take it to a metal shop to get an estimate for re-welding the frame and they are hesitant to even work on it because of how corroded it is. The cab is almost detached from the frame and the support above the rear axle is about to snap in half.
Hi my name is mirian I currently own a Toyota 2006 Tacoma for which the frame broke this week and now not drivable. I learned when I took my car to a local dealer for a recall seat belts and other issues in 2021, the dealer told me that the frame was very rust and that I needed to contact Toyota USA as there was a recall to rusted frames that involved my vehicle year make. I called Toyota back then and they told me there was nothing they can do as that safety recall was expired. We cannot afford to pay oop for the fix of the frame and plus I emphasized to Toyota that I had never been notified at least I never got a notice. At this point I'm very concerned for my husband safeness that is the car he uses for work, we have been a very loyal customer to Toyota and now I'm very disappointed and more so concerned about my husband safety as Toyota seems not able to fix it I had filed a claim and they did not resolve in our favor. This is a formal complaint in regards to safety.
My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in new concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like. So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on a trailer.
The frame of the car is rusted and deemed unsafe. Due to the rust of the frame the car could be unsupported and cause potential harm to the driver and others on the road. The problem has been identified by a dealer and manufacturer. There were no warnings on the car about this.
I will try to give you as concise statement of my complaint as possible, however, I have copies I sent to the manufacturer and others that I'm willing to furnish you if requested. On 3/18/21, I wrote to Toyota's executive vp , chief quality officer, mr. Chris nielsen, stating my compliance with their notice of 7/9/15, requiring frame inspection, significant perforation not found, therefore they applied crc corrosion resistant compound to my frame. As no critical problem was noted, I felt I was good until during a later inspection was performed and rated more attention. On 3/29/21 during my next oil change I noted on a notation on an unusual service bill, typewritten not the usual custom printed type, a notation that I have 2 holes, approx. 3. 5" on my frame, use caution if driving". At this time I found there was an open class action suit against Toyota. Toyota advised me that since I had not responded to more than one notification I was not included in the suit. I replied that "I did not receive any such notation". As they did not send receipt requested or certified, I neither could prove sent or not received. I asked for consideration based on that to which, was denied. I have written also to CT attorney general, CT us senator, blumenthal, with only the attorney general's office stating Toyota's response was negative. I realize this is a late request, I was not aware of his avenue. I have certified copies of each request for help, which I am more than happy to copy and send to you if you will try to help me right Toyota's wrong. I'm an 89 year old male just trying to right a wrong I believe done to me. I did not receive notification from Toyota! , if I had, I would not be so persistent. I send my letters certified, they should have had to also, could have solved this problem earlier. Please help me, thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately at 10 mph, the fuel tank straps failed causing the fuel tank to detach from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer arlington Toyota located at 10939 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, FL 32225 jacksonvillle FL. Who diagnosed that the subframe had sustained severe rusting and corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The entire frame of this garage kept truck is completely rusted though. This truck as only 61,000 miles on it & is unsafe to drive. The rear leaf spring mounts are broken & have punctured the gas tank. The electrical wiring to do with the safety neutral switch, which is tied into the entire from wiring harness has caught fire twice. Toyota has been notified about all of this, in detail, & they could care less about my own or anyone else's safety. There isn't a scratch on this truck & has really low miles yet is so unsafe to use because of poor construction on Toyota's part.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While the vehicle was undergoing a routine inspection at maui Toyota (320 hana hwy, kahului, hi 96732, (808) 877-2781), the mechanic noticed rust on the chassis and a hole in the frame. The contact had to sign a waiver. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 75,895.
My Tacoma is a leasure/work vehicle, garaged and maintained with 65k miles. Within this month I had a main exhuast hanger that was welded to the frame break away and take a large part of the frame with it, then thanks to my wife she noticed an oddity under the bed and it was that 2 of my gas tank straps had broken. I informed the local dealer (kolar) and Toyota, they responded by saying that due to its advanced years, they would not help and are not responsible. If I had been traveling down i35 to the cities at 85 mph and the tank came off, and it struck my or another vehicle this note would be worded very differently. I will provide photos, but I am yet to get my vehicle released from Toyota, not sure how that works, they will not release it to me until it is safe and they would not cover the costs.
Body rot due to corrosion of manufacture defect. Toyota sprayed the body under cost but again coming off and body rot through out vehicle.
Car abs wire disconnect, coolant in transmission lines and 4th gear not functional.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. While driving at any speed, the suspension made an abnormal noise. Prior to the noise, the vehicle was repaired per an unknown manufacturer recall pertaining to the frame. The contact was uncertain if the recall repair caused the suspension noise. The vehicle was taken to more than two dealers, including tansky sawmill Toyota (6300 sawmill rd, dublin, OH 43017, (614) 766-4800) and buckeye Toyota (1903 riverway dr, lancaster, OH 43130, (740) 654-3943) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was uncertain if the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was not available.
The gas tank straps rusted and the gas tank fell from the body of the truck while in motion at low speed entering a parking lot. The vehicle was part of the north east corrosion recall and serviced in Nov 2015. However, the straps were not replaced and failed about 21 months later. Case filed with Toyota, 1708182077 with no resolution nor concern with the condition. Ira Toyota of manchester invoice# 736796 replaced the fuel sub-assy bands p/n 77601-04050 and 77602-04010. A small amount of fuel was spilled due to the low speed of travel at the time and short distance to stop the vehicle (about 5mph and 30 feet). Concern is for the safety of those that might have straps fail while at higher speed.

I am the original owner of this 06 Tacoma, 140 thousand miles. In April I was informed by my mechanic that the frame appeared to have extensive rust. He checked for a recall and found that it had ended the previous month. I did some research and found that Toyota had a recall (that I was never informed of) and had replaced thousands of frames. After more research I found that this has been an ongoing issue since the 1990's. I recently took the truck to Toyota of turnersville NJ for other warranty work and asked if they would check the frame. The note they left on the receipt stated "extensive rusting of both front frame rails. Do not recommend long trips of heavy loads!! " this truck is used to travel from NJ to va. Usually with my grandchildren sometimes twice a month. The service rep. Answer to the problem was that maybe I could find someone to weld some steel to the frame ???. . . I just hope that my issue (and I am sure there thousands of others) can be resolved brfore someone has to die on the highway as is typical.

Vehicle was subject to a limited service campaign for frame corrosion that expired March 2016. I was unaware of this campaign and when I took my vehicle in for service at the dealership, I was informed that my vehicle would have been covered by the campaign and that the current state of the frame is questionable to pass virginia state inspection next year. I have filed a bbb complaint and the response from Toyota was that they are compliant with all regulations and that no accommodation or extension of the lsc will be considered. I am the original owner who now has a vehicle that could potentially fail due to an acknowledged defect by the manufacturer.
The frame of my truck is dangerously rusted, and Toyota refuses to honor its own recall commitment to replace the frame because of an arbitrary deadline for inspection. The date is irrelevant to the basic problem -- their frame is defective, I and my passengers are at risk, and repair is urgently needed. Nhsta should challenge auto makers, especially Toyota, on the policy of time-limited recalls.
