Failure Date: 08/31/2016

My Tacoma truck was brought to dealer in 2014, per recall instructions, for frame corrosion issue, the dealer elected to spray the frame. In early part of 2016 I brought truck in for leaf spring recall. The dealer found a hole in the frame, sent pictures to Toyota requesting authorization to repair frame before replacing leaf springs, Toyota denied frame repair request. Because of the issue with frame the dealer would not replace leaf springs. I contacted Toyota and was told that it is Toyota's policy that they would not replace the leaf springs on an unsafe vehicle. When I stated that the vehicle was unsafe because the frame issue was not corrected in 2014 I was told that the frame recall was over and there was no recourse. So now I have an unsafe vehicle because the frame recall was not properly addressed in 2014 and Toyota would not approve replacement of leaf springs in2016.

I recently discovered that the frame of of this truck, only 10 years old, had severely rusted to the point where it is no longer safe to drive. Toyota has informed me that there had been a limited service period for this problem but it had expired. I was unaware of this and do not believe I was notified. I believe this to be a severe safety issue which many like me may not be aware of. If the frame were to fail while travelling at highway speeds it is quite possible people could be severely injured.

I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma to boch Toyota as part of Toyota service campaign regarding frame recall back in Dec of 2015. I waited 5 months to get my truck back to get it back in deplorable conditions. Truck was not repaired satisfactorilyand I am still having issues with it. I have made several complaints to Toyota and both Toyota to no avail. Truck barely running.

On Dec 12, 2014 , gualt Toyota in endicott NY inspected truck frame as a result of the Toyota truck frame recall. As a result, they applied undercoating to the frame. On may 6, 2016, my mechanic reported that I need to get my truck to Toyota for the frame recall ASAP. I told him that gault had applied undercoating and his response was that the undercoating is gone and he could not tell that it was undercoated. He also reported that frame will soon become a safety issue. I called Toyota directly and they refused to help me with the issue.

On may 29, 2014 the truck went to boch Toyota in norwood, MA for the limited service campaign that Toyota sent a letter due to excessive corrosion because of a defect in the frame. Boch Toyota said the frame was okay and they could coat it with a crc. In January 2016 the truck was at mcgee Toyota and their technicians said that the crc had failed and the frame had excessive corrosion. They put in for a new frame because the limited service campaign goes through March 31, 2016, however Toyota denied saying they had already coated the frame and that was all they would do. After numerous complaints to Toyota corporate they asked me to bring the truck back on March 9, 2016 for their technicians to review. I am told their technicians saw the corrosion but have not been provided a report. There are numerous instances of this frame corrosion on this website as well as in the news and Toyota has replaced the frames on the older model Tacomas which were coated with the crc and failed. They need to replace this frame as it is a known defect and poses a serious safety hazard. I am attaching pictures of the frame which I took myself and also a sample copy of the letter I received back in 2014 describing the campaign.

44 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

Toyota Tacoma limited service campaign. I dropped my truck off in November 2015 for a frame inspection, I was then told I could not drive my truck off of the lot and had to have a loaner vehicle. I was in a loaner vehicle without my truck for 4 months until the beginning of March 2016. The day I got my truck back, the check engine light came on, the codes were p0420 and p0430 which indicate a catalytic converter issue. The check engine light was not on when I took the truck in, or ever in the 2 years I owned it, but the dealership is refusing to do anything but say it needs new converts that cost over $3000. My truck now has a vibration from 50-55mph which was not present before as well. I believe these issues are a direct result of the frame being replace, or the fact the my truck sat stationary for 4 months while waiting for a frame, neither of which were my fault.

48 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2015

My vehicle was involved in a frame rot recall. Dealership checked and claimed there was no rot, so it was just cleaned and undercoated. After just three months dealership found rot through and put a claim into Toyota who declined to do the repair work stating their responsibility ended when dealership missed the rust through when checked during the initial recall service. Toyota should stand by their recall obligation and do the necessary repairs when such a small amount of time elapsed between initial inspection and when rust through was found.

49 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer per the service bulletin to be diagnosed and repaired; however, it did not pass the failure test. The suggestion from the manufacturer was to apply a rust inhibitive coating, but the dealer stated that due to the heavy rusting a coating would not deter the vehicle from fracturing. The VIN and service bulletin number were not available. The failure mileage was 110,000.

After relocating to daly city, CA. 94015 ( pacific coast area ) about a 1. 5 year ago. I noticed the frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma started to exhibit some corrosion throughout. Upon some research online, Toyota has initiated a limited service campaign "e0d" in the following states: CT DE IL in ky MA MD me mi mn nh NJ NY OH PA ri va vt WI wv & d. C. To address this problem. For 05-08 Tacoma vehicles operated in specific cold climate areas with high road salt use, may exhibit more than normal corrosion to the frame. An authorized dealer will inspect the frame. If significant rust perforation is not found*, corrosion-resistant compounds (crc) will be applied to key areas of the frame. If an authorized dealer confirms the frame has significant rust perforation*, an appropriate remedy will be provided. The problem is question here shouldn't only be addressed to vehicles located in the states above, but a safety issue that should apply to all 2005-2008 models affected nationwide. Pacific coast areas may not experience high road salt usage, but there are other climate elements like salt moisture from the pacific ocean that can also accelerate corrosion in metal frames if it's not well designed or coated. This issue affects the core of the vehicle frame and its integrity during normal operation and in an event of an accident. If Toyota believes their 05-08 Tacoma models are having corrosion issues in the above states, why it's not a problem for those living close to coastal areas with high salt moisture like daly city, san francisco, pacific, half noon bay and cities in proximity to the coast. Thank you for taking the time to review my concerns.

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Got recall notice in December of 2014 for defective rear leaf springs. Also got notice in December of 2014 of service campaign to fix corrosion on frame of vehicle. Called dealer was told to come in for inspection. Dealer determined that my frame was in very bad condition corrosion and rust and that I would need to have the frame replaced. Said they would fix and replace the rear leaf srings at the same time they replace frame this inspection took place on wed January 14th 2015. My truck has very low mileage its a 2006 and I have only 60,000 miles on it. After waiting months to hear from dealer I called Toyota, they told me in April that they wer still waiting for parts. I filed a case number with Toyota, called them back on June 15th 2015 after hearing nothing from them. Now on June 15th 2015 they tell me they are still waiting for parts. Meanwhile the safety recall says that the rear leaf spring could snap and rupture my gas tank. I need help with this.

55 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I noticed heavy corrosion on my truck's frame and took it to my local dealer for a check. They stated that there was serious corrosion but no perforation and Toyota would only replace the frame if it was perforated; however, Toyota had extended the frame warranty to 15 years and I should return annually for checks. A few months later I found a perforation in the frame due to corrosion and returned to the dealership for verification. They sent the information to Toyota along with pictures but were told that no service campaign exists for my truck. In fact a service campaign does exist in MD where I am from and where the truck was primarily driven until less than 2 years ago but totota refuses to replace their defective frame since my registration is not currently in MD. This frame corrosion is inappropriate and has rendered my truck valueless and unsafe to drive.

56 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

There has been limited service recall on my vehicle for frame service. The Toyota dealers are giving me what appears to me to be a run-around so they won't have to perform this recall service before the expiration date of the recall will occur. They say they don't have the materials to perform this fix and that the customer list is long.

'frame problem" rust problem my Tacoma has an excessive rust problem on the frame. I don't feel safe driving with my to kids am afraid the truck will not hold on the road while hitting pot holes (one of them is 5 and my oldest one is 10) I am limited to where to go this is my everyday car, it is not cool. I called the dealer and nothing. This truck is an 8 year old car that should'nt have this problem, on Toyota forums it sims everyone has this problem. I am hoping the Toyota will take care this problem before the winter starts :(.

58 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2014

My truck has been officially been declared unsafe to drive. I am experiencing extreme and unusual rust and corrosion on the frame of my 2006 Toyota Tacoma. This is not the kind of rust you would expect to see due to normal wear and tear. The first indication from my dealer that there was a problem was when I took the truck in on 07/10/14 for an oil change. I was told that the frame was so severely compromised by rust and corrosion the dealer recommended that it be repaired immediately. When I was taken into the service area and shown the truck on a lift, I could see that there were actual holes rotted through the frame and it had literally begun flaking and falling apart. I contacted a certified welding technician and had the affected areas reinforced as best we could. When I took the truck to be inspected on 09/16/14, I was told that it would not pass due to the advanced deterioration of the frame, in spite of the repairs. This is not normal rust for an 8 year old vehicle used to commute to and from work. The rest of the truck is in excellent condition, there is virtually no deterioration anywhere else. I have also been told by my dealer that they will not even consider a trade-in (kelly blue book trade in-value should be $9,300 or private sale $11,668). The truck is beautiful, looks almost new and runs perfectly and is worth nothing? the only issue is the frame, which in the opinion of the auto body garages I have consulted, was caused by a manufacturing defect. Please note: Toyota now has a limited service campaign in place for 2005-2008 Tacomas, for which my VIN is not yet included. The problem has been acknowledged by Toyota and based on the evidence provided by my own dealer, clearly exists in my vehicle. Please do not ignore this growing problem until these compromised frames result in widespread injury or death, please open a new investigation now.

59 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2014

The vehicle was at the dealership it was purchased from for several safety recalls to be implemented/fixed. I had the service manager of the dealership inspect the frame while up on the lift. The frame of the vehicle was found to be badly rusted with actual holes present in the frame. He told me that this was not a safe vehicle to drive at this point. He said to put nothing in the bed of the truck.

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

I took my 2006 Tacoma to have a 5k service. The service rep told me that I had extensive rust under the carriage and that it need to be fixed ASAP. He said that it would involve removing the rust and then applying rustproofing. I went online and found numerous complaints about rust issues from other owners and Toyota has not issued a recall to correct the problem at no cost to the owner. This has to be dealt wtith ASAP. I feel that I am driving a truck that is unsafe.

67 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

At about 30 mph, we hit a bump, and the fuel tank strap fell off our Toyota Tacoma double cab. When we brought the vehicle to the Toyota dealer, where we have had the vehicle serviced since purchasing it new in 06, we were told that the frame is perforated due to rust and that the vehicle is unsafe to drive. The dealer suggested we contact Toyota, which we did. Both the customer service representative and his supervisor told us there is nothing they can do. The supervisor also said there is no one else above her at Toyota who takes phone calls. We have been loyal Toyota customers, purchasing 8 new Toyota vehicles in the last 30 years. We presently have 3 Toyotas, and we are appalled that Toyota will not remedy this serious safety issue on the Tacoma.

68 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

Whiled I was driving I went over a bump in the road. The fan on my truck started making a loud noise. I took the vehicle to a repair shop to be checked. This I when I found out that the frame on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma was cracked and caving in where the motor mounts attach to the frame. This caused the motor to drop down and the fan started hitting on the shroud. Also it pierced a hole in my upper oil pan when the motor dropped down and hit the rack and pinion. Upon research there are many many cases of this happening to the 2005 -2006 Tacoma trucks. This is clearly a safety issue that Toyota refuses to fix.
