Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Toyota Tacoma

My 2025 Toyota Tacoma engaged the emergency braking/pre-collision system system while my vehicle was going under 10 mph on a steep road in winter conditions. My vehicle was completely under control before the system engaged and there was no risk of a collision with any vehicles in front of me. The emergency braking system engaged and rendered my vehicle completely out of control. I tried desperately to pump the brakes in hopes I could regain control of the vehicle, but the brakes were fully locked. Had the brakes dis-engaged, I could have easily avoided the collision. The car not only did not decelerate, it accelerated down the hill while the brakes were locked for several seconds. My vehicle eventually slid into another vehicle that had been parked on the side of the road. From doing extensive research I believe a perfect storm of events caused this malfunction. Previously on this day, several inches of snow had fallen. The road had not been plowed and cars were parked on the side of the road. There was also a curve in the road near my vehicle's collision where the other vehicle was parked. My windshield was also still defrosting in the uppermost section near the rear view mirror. It is also possible the radar block on the front of the vehicle had snow or ice on it. It was also actively snowing. From what I have read, any of the above factors can cause a malfunction in the emergency braking pre-collision system. I had never been in an accident in over 20 years of driving and my vehicle did the least safe maneuver it could have in the given situation. There is no circumstance where one would purposefully slam the brakes on a snowy/icy down hill road if they know how to drive in the snow (even if you were going under 10mph as I was). At the most basic level of failure, I can't imagine this system should ever engage if going as slow as I was. Also, the system is designed to decelerate (was accelerating) and I was pumping brakes in effort to disengage.

Due to my husband driving the vehicle, isp states it looks like he crossed into an oncoming semi-chip truck trailer, causing a fatal accident and killing him instantly. The 2025 Toyota Tacoma's safety sense obviously failed since my husband is now dead. We had the 2025 Tacoma in the prior week due to my complaints that the lane assist was not working properly and the screen did not respond to my touch to turn it on. After the fatal accident, isp removed the black box to download information for the accident report. I am now waiting for isp report. No jaws of life was used to extract husband they didn't need it Tacoma metal already peeled back like a tuna can.

The master cylinder is leaking brake fluid into the cab and is dripping behind the brake pedal. There is brake fluid in the wiring harness that goes to the brake switch as well. This is a known fire hazard from other vehicle manufacturers.

My 2024 Tacoma sr5 was stuttering and felt like the wheels are locking up when I accelerate I have to go very slow because when going anything over 30 mph feels very unsafe and is hard to control and handle it shut off a lot of my systems like crash detection and 2-3 other ones are cut off on my dash it threw a check engine light so going to take it in to Toyota tomorrow to get it looked at I don’t know if I even want this truck anymore.

My Tacoma had approximately 221 miles on it. I was slowly driving "6mph" starting to pull into my driveway when all of a sudden all 4 brakes locked and came to a sudden stop. I took it to the dealership: Toyota of wichita falls (texas). They found nothing wrong. There are other issues with this vehicle that the service person would not address. The vehicle was taken to the dealership [xxx] with 551 miles on it. Work order/invoice number [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I hit an elk on the road. The elk came in direct impact with the front of my truck. No air bags deployed despite the force of the significant frontal impact. There had been no warnings or messages leading up to this that the airbags were not functional, nor was I notified that these airbags were part of any recall. To my knowledge, they are not. The vehicle is currently at a collision center for estimate preparation for the insurance company.

Twice, while backing out of my driveway, the brakes have locked up. The brakes stay locked until you tap them repetitively for a few minutes. Then the brakes will slowly release while going forward, but only lock up again when put in reverse. The vehicle cannot be driven until the next day, then it performs normally. Luckily this happened in my driveway before I got on to the street. When the brakes lock, it is violent, throwing me against the seat back. The vehicle has been to two different dealers, but they could not duplicate the issue. When this happens multiple brake warning messages pop up on the dash. The manufacture has not inspected the vehicle. In fact, when I reported it to them, and sent pictures of the warning messages, they insinuated that the pictures were not from my vehicle. The manufacture stated that they do not consider this a safety issue. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. If the brakes lock while out on the hi-way it could cause an accident.

I currently own a 2019 Tacoma with around 70,000 miles on it. I keep up with all the Toyota recommended maintenance services to make sure my vehicle is well taken care of. So, while driving the vehicle on the interstate it drastically slowed down on its own and I could not get the gas pedal to engage almost causing a rear end collision. This also happened on two other occasions at lower speeds. My display stated I was having issues with abs, collision, and that I was pressing the gas pedal and break at the same time. My vehicle has been at the dealership for 4 days now with no resolve or any answers to why the vehicle is slowing down on its own. I feel the vehicle is a health/safety issue and I will not drive it until the issue is resolved. The computer was also flashed by Toyota a year earlier as I was experiencing a lag in engine engagement and high rpm's when the vehicle shifted from first to second gear. Something the tech noted he experienced driving it. It's also an issue I've had since purchasing the vehicle. I had to bring the vehicle back a month later as it started doing the same thing but was told they could not find any issues. I have found many other forums and spoke with other Tacoma owners who have had similar issues. I feel Toyota is definitely aware of the issues but not addressing them! I hope to get some answers soon!.

I notice that every time I pass a tunel or under pass the automatic braking assist activate it will make suden brake is that normal. Some times the forward collision warning will triger alarm sound end it will brake by it self.

Auto emergency braking has gotten extremely dangerous and locking breaks when nothing is in front of me. Always while in cruise control mode. On long extended highways, the truck will randomly slam on the brakes and skid the back tires. It has happened 6 times now. This most recent one made us slide into the next lane and I had to turn the truck into a field (~20mph) after the truck brakes went off. To avoid on coming traffic. There was a car turning around half a mile ahead and was nowhere close. Additionally, a severe issue of premature rust and degradation is occurring on the truck. 13,000 miles and the bottom looks like it's been on the road for several years.

Coming back home at 15:00 on 12 /22/22 it was light snow day on two lane county road my wife was following back for are mother in laws , west snoqualmie valley road carnation washington , speed 30 miles per hours I was coming into a turn that cautions 35 miles or less and the. My dash comes up a yellow triangle with a exclamation and my brake pedal disappears out from under my feet and the brakes lock up and slide of the side of the road into the grass , put the truck into park then I try to put engage the brake pedal up towards me with my foot and the motor stalls /cuts out , I push the start button system comes back on and out into four wheel drive to get out of the grass/ cow field and the check engine stays yellow . I take it Toyota and they tell me everything is fine and it was just a traction issue with the program of the truck.

My car while driving every so often miles will have the abs light go on with the traction control light and the amb symbol going off. When plugged into device at auto zone code c1422 stating the master cylinder pressure sensor zero point high. I’ve tried replacing the break light switch which is a common repair for people with that problem I’ve checked all harness and wiring all is intact and undamaged/ no water damage. When I look up my VIN number in kellybluebooks website a recall appears for a brake master cylinder recall for improper machining of the brake master master cylinder. Which will cause internal damage of one of the seals, affecting brake performance. It affected 44121 of vehicles of my year. But when looked up in this website and Toyota no recalls appear which is strange. The defect it has when the abs light and etc. Lights go off is it will force the car to stop moving by locking the brake system and smoking out the calipers till brought to 0mph which is very dangerous when operating in the freeway as cars behind my aren’t expecting a sudden stop. The repair is to replace the whole master cylinder. Which Toyota would want me to pay but it should be a defect from a recall.

Rackandpinon replacement was also the upper and lower ball joints my steering is still giving me problems and I feel like it’s asafty concern because if I’m going down the highway I could loose control I have some receipts for what my mechanic replaced I called Toyota and they told me that it was to late to fix anything and that I would have to deal with it I never received a notice in the mail or anywhere else I feel like Toyota owes me also what has happened is my spare tire feel off from the hanger going up my driveway I got to looking and the cable rusted away along with my rear parking brake cable up under the truck thanks for your time.

Another vehicle turned left in front of the Toyota, resulting in a head-on collision at about 30 mph. The forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking systems did not engage and the airbags did not deploy. Police report has not been completed by grpd as of today (6/1/2022).

Yes has been inspected by the manufacturer and they fixed it but I want to file a claim.

My wife was backing up in our driveway, and hit another vehicle parked in our driveway. The backup pre-collision system did not issue any warning, and did not stop the vehicle (as it is supposed to do).

Upon acceleration vehicle will have delayed engagement, up to and including a near stall or stuttering. Has led to several near misses (x2). The tss system takes over and does it's thing versus allowing the driver to drive the vehicle for the conditions. Example would be automatic application of brakes due to deer in road causing loss of control on an icy road way. Driver released gas pedal and was coasting as deer was crossing. Due to brakes being automatically applied, vehicle began to slide, deer became spooked and stopped crossing, vehicle ended up partially in the ditch. After multiple occurrences (5+ memorable), driver has lost all faith in the safety and reliability of this vehicle and does not transport passengers as they fear for the passenger's safety. Driver only utilizes vehicle because it is their last and only means of transport.

All of the heat shields protecting my floor boards from the heat of the exhaust are falling off. The have been falling off on the highway and generally while the vehicle is in motion. It seems as if the nuts that hold the shields on are corroding the aluminum shields.
