2 Warnings problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/04/2025

My 2018 Toyota Tacoma started showing a "forward collision detection system malfunction" "contact your dealer" light came on that also indicates system is not on/functioning. I went to the dealer and was told the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly #88210-04020 wad defective. My replacement cost and labor would be $1,543. I refused the service as I wanted to better understand the issue. I found that the exact item had fallen under a Toyota kob recall. The same dealer had performed the recall in 2022. I believe the dealer should warranty the recalled part and service. It also appears the recall was performed incorrectly where a backing foam / seal that was to protect the sensor from moisture was installed incorrectly according to the recall recommendations.

5 Warnings problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/29/2023

I currently own a 2019 Tacoma with around 70,000 miles on it. I keep up with all the Toyota recommended maintenance services to make sure my vehicle is well taken care of. So, while driving the vehicle on the interstate it drastically slowed down on its own and I could not get the gas pedal to engage almost causing a rear end collision. This also happened on two other occasions at lower speeds. My display stated I was having issues with abs, collision, and that I was pressing the gas pedal and break at the same time. My vehicle has been at the dealership for 4 days now with no resolve or any answers to why the vehicle is slowing down on its own. I feel the vehicle is a health/safety issue and I will not drive it until the issue is resolved. The computer was also flashed by Toyota a year earlier as I was experiencing a lag in engine engagement and high rpm's when the vehicle shifted from first to second gear. Something the tech noted he experienced driving it. It's also an issue I've had since purchasing the vehicle. I had to bring the vehicle back a month later as it started doing the same thing but was told they could not find any issues. I have found many other forums and spoke with other Tacoma owners who have had similar issues. I feel Toyota is definitely aware of the issues but not addressing them! I hope to get some answers soon!.

6 Warnings problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

This describes false alarms by the vehicle electronics. About once every four to six months, the center display on the dash says, "brake," and a sonalert-type steady beep comes out of the dash. This happens with cruise control on. In two cases, there was no vehicle in front of me on the road. I could not see any source of radio signal or radar interference (emi) in the area or nearby. In one case, there were no vehicles nearby, no weather or other radars nearby, only a television translator station about two miles away. The brakes may have been applied in some cases but generally are not. Weather has been sunny and clear in every case when this occurs. So far as I can tell, these are random false alarms with no apparent emi cause. They seem to be getting less frequent. I get frequent and reproducible lane departure warnings with certain "fog line" configurations used in my state or with random tire skid marks.

8 Warnings problem of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/23/2023

The issue is that I and as well as many others live in cold winter climates. Led headlights do not put off the heat required to keep snow and ice off of them. This is a hazardous and accident causing issue when you can not see any longer. Getting out of the vehicle every few miles poses a hazard in it's own that you are pulling over on a roadway to clear the headlights. I don't feel the manufacturers thought this through and is getting worse that most newer vehicles & all electrical vehicles have led lighting. There needs to be a heater system or film/built in heat source for the lens. . . . Also the front sensor for collision detection will freeze over or become snow covered. Thus the vehicle turning it off. Seems it is most needed during this weather condition???.

9 Warnings problem of the 2021 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/14/2021

Tl- the contact owns a 2021 Toyota takoma. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35-40 mph when coming to a red light approximately 500 yards away, the contact began to slow down in speed then began to press the brakes due to a truck nearby suddenly coming from the side of the vehicle. The vehicle's brakes and collision prevention system failed causing the contact to crash into another vehicle. The air bags did deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed but has not been officially diagnosed totaled as of yet. The contact received injuries to their wrist and the abdominal area. The passenger of the vehicle received neck, back, shoulder, and leg injuries. Medical attention was needed. The contact had not spoken with a dealer, the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue, the approximate failure mileage was 38,000. Gl.

10 Warnings problem of the 2021 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/08/2021

I purchased a new 2021 Toyota Tacoma in December 2021 with a pre collision safety system. Less than 2 months later, my daughter was in a front end collision accident (daughter at fault). The system did not do what it was suppose to, which was warn her and help her apply the brake. At the repair center, I asked them to check the pre collision safety system. They took the vehicle to bert ogden Toyota to have the vehicle checked out. They told me the system was probably off or not set sensitive enough at the time of the accident. Now that I have the vehicle back, I have set the pre collision system to the most sensitive setting and it appears it is not working. The system has failed to warn me (on the most sensitive setting) as I accelerated toward a braking car. I took the vehicle in to Toyota of pharr and spoke to a salesman, who told me all of my settings were correct and it should be working. Though this failure was minor in my daughter's case with no one hurt (though it did cost $7,000 to repair), this system is not working as advertised and it is a matter of time before someone gets hurt.
