38 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2009

I took my 2000 Toyota Tundra to get new tires and the vehicle broke in half on the lift. I had brought a live stock trailer that day so I could pick up my 1500pound grain order so I can feed my animals,I did not get to do this. I frequently drive long distances at 50 mph or faster for my business with weight in the rear. There has been a claim filed with Toyota I still have no answers as to what and when anything will be done. In the mean time im having difficulty performing the chores that need to be done without a vehicle that works to my needs. Toyota did rent me a vehicle at their expense. I'm afraid to drive anything now for fear it too could be faulty im lucky I'm not dead and my 9 year old child too.

39 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2009

I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra which has severe frame corrosion. On 12-05-09 the drivers side rear shackle support broke. I had no cargo or any load in the bed of the truck at the time and did not lose control of the vehicle. The only way I perceived anything wrong with the truck was the very loud bang I heard as the shackle support gave out, and the bed of the truck shifted downward. I am not sure if I can safely operate my vehicle as this is the only transportation I have available to me. I called ira Toyota in danvers massachusetts and was informed that no recall is currently covering the problem I am experiencing. I was given a telephone number to call at Toyota(1-800-331-4331) . No weekend hours. . . . . . . . . . . . . . No help!.

47 Frame And Members problem

1i have owned many Toyota trucks since my first in 1987. Usually the body would rot right off the chassis. Now the chassis rots right out from under the body! highlights:I purchased a 1984 truck in 1989 it had a rusty bed and I fixed it up. I purchased a new 1997 tacoma in September of 1996, the truck had frame rot in March of 2004, I documented my complaint with Toyota in March of 2005 with Toyota motor corp. The told me "there is no known flaw with tacoma frames. I disagreed with them. I sold the truck in may of 2005 with 218000 miles on it with a rotten frame for only $2000, had the chassis held up I should have gotten some where around $7000 for the truck considering it should go over 300,000 miles and it started out as a $22,000 truck. Now I have a 2000 Tundra with the same problem and just as before Toyota motor corp. Tells me the have " no known problem ".

I was told there is nothing they are doing about this although it is the same problem they just recalled the tacoma's for. Waiting to hear back from the dealer. Was told truck may be unsafe.

51 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2009

I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra, and have for the past few years watched as the frame of my truck slowly disentegrates to what is now very thin metal, mainly (but not limited to) from the rear of the cab rearward, it appears to be severe flaky rust that comes off in chunks in some spots. I have even gone so far as to install a safety tether for my spare tire as the bracket for the spare looks as if its going to break off. Comparing this issue with other makes and models in my geographic area, I believe that this rust / rot is abnormal for the age of the truck. I am uneasy using this truck for which it was designed, (I. E. Towing my camper, or bed full of mulch). This issue also prevents me from selling the truck, who wants a truck with a rotted frame !! I shudder to think how this truck were to perform if I were ever in an accident. Help !!.

52 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

2000 Toyota Tundra with 120k miles in concord MA. Recently the vehicle was making a noise while turning or hitting a bump. Upon inspection found the frame has corroded so badly the torsion bar is no longer attached to the frame. The rear end leaf spring mounts are also close to the point of failure. Reported this to Toyota an received a case number (case #09102651), was told I would be contacted 3 days ago and have not been contacted yet. Also reported this to my local dealer, they said they should be contacted by Toyota with my case number, as of yet they have not been contacted either. The only repair will be a new undercarriage. This is my only vehicle.

My vehicle is a 2000 Toyota Tundra limited access cab. It has severe rust and rot cover most of the frame members and joints. I contacted Toyota last year and was told the were investigating the issue and when it was resolved they would contact me. I have not heard from them since. In the meantime the vehicle poses a threat to every other motorist on the road not to mention my 3 small children who have to travel in the vehicle often. I hope a resolution comes soon. Toyota has had more than enough time to investigate the issue at this point they are just hoping it goes away.

58 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2009

I just recently traded in my 2000 Toyota Tundra limited and got $8200 trade for it. The vehicle was in mint shape with only 74,000 miles on it. I have pictures etc. . . I just traded it for a 2009 corolla s. The frame was so rotted I didn't have a choice in trading it in. It was just falling off in clumps of rust. The brake lines and brakes worried me to much and was a safety concern. The recall should have been when the tacomas had their recall. If it wasn't for the rust id still have that truck. Jeff popp worcester MA now I have a 200 dollar more car payment I wish I didn't have to have. It would be nice to get re embursed for the difference of this reason of getting rid of my Tundra. 65 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra sr5 access cab 4wd pick up that has 131,000 miles. Failed the state safety inspection due to a rusted out crossmember in the rear of the vehicle. It was also pointed out to me the poor condition of the frame in many other areas. It is obvious Toyota has a serious safety issue on their hands with frame rot. The tacoma's proved that. Why aren't they including these Tundra's with the same issues? I do have a small child that rides in the vehicle so I'm very concerned.

66 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2009

The frame of my 2000 Toyota Tundra is severely rusted. So far both front end sway bars have failed and needed to be replaced. Other parts (such as the leaf springs) look close to failure. The vehicle did pass this years state inspection but I was warned that it may be difficult to pass next year.

67 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2009

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra, access cab, 4wd truck with 160,000 +/- miles. I purchased the vehicle used from the original owner who lived in the akron, ohio area. I have noticed significant section loss to frame members, cross members and cab supports. Presently, the frame is completely perforated on the underneath side near the passenger front door. Additionally, the passenger middle cab support has corroded completely off, the front drivers cab support has rusted completely away and the front bumper/impact guard has completely rusted off. I have contacted the dealership and corporate headquarters two separate times. They have responded promptly all three times; however, the issue is still be investigated at the "executive level". Additionally, I have had to replace one of the rear brake lines and the fuel tank strap due to failure from corrosion. The vehicle is in excellent mechanical shape and body is nearly flawless. I have photos available. The frame seems to be most severely deteriorated at the boxed section near the transmission support cross member. Under normal driving conditions (I. E. Not towing/no payload) this would likely be the point in the structure associated with maximum bending. Due to the box design- it is impossible to inspect the total amount of section loss; although, as previously stated the passenger side rail is completely perforated along the underneath side. I can attest that my father has a 2002 Toyota Tundra with no deterioration. It is unclear if Toyota used a different treatment for the later model vehicles. Most alarming to me, is how quickly y the corrosion has progressed. Since last September, the corrosion has progressed from a surface rust appearance into bubbling and complete deterioration.

I own a 2000 Toyota Tundra. I had it inspected for rust and it is said that it may not pass inspection next year.

69 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2009

My rear left leaf spring shackle rusted out and broke on my 2000 Tundra . I brought it to my mechanic for repair and as he was replacing the right side he called me to show a large 6 in crack in the frame just above where the tow hitch attaches. Hard to see once the shackle was put back on. He told me the truck may become unsafe to drive and that I cannot tow anything . He pointed out, where the rear section of the frame is flaking off rust.

70 Frame And Members problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

I found holes in the frame of my 2000 Toyota Tundra in 2007 and immediately brought it to Toyota. They said it wasn't covered under warranty but to watch it and it wasn't a big issue to have a little rust (this was during the tacoma recall). Sept of 2008 I brought the truck in again since the rust was even worse they said again not a big issue but to keep an eye on it. In September of 2009 I was changing the oil and I saw that the front sway bar mount had totally rusted through and had fallen off - immediately called Toyota corp - they said there is nothing they can do. My issue is that they have told me all along that this is not a big deal! but now its a safety issue ! it has since taken out a power steering line and there is a brake line that has been ruptured as well. Now that the truck is worth nothing I want Toyota to help me out. They told me it wasn't an issue, I believed them, now my truck is worthless! and the truck only has 130000 miles on it! this is nothing compared to all my other Toyota trucks. . .
