Tl the contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was placed into neutral in order to be stopped. The contact looked underneath the vehicle and noticed that the frame was rusted. The contact also mentioned that the shifter was not functioning properly. The contact mentioned that the gear selector would not move to the desired gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not safe to drive due to the rust, and that the brake line and shifter cable needed to be replaced. Graham Toyota (1515 w 4th st, mansfield, OH 44906, (419) 529-1800) was called and stated that the frame was previously repaired per an unknown recall. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 117,000.
Frame rust so bad truck will not pass state inspection. This condition found on annual state inspection. From pics mechanic took, I am now afraid to drive vehicle. Some attachment brackets/bars not even connected and rusted completely in half. I called Toyota corporate and they said there was no recall on this vehicle nor any type of buy back program for it. Sad that this truck was not repaired as this was a known issue with 2000-2003 Tundras and now I am stuck with a vehicle that Toyota will not repair due to age. Seems this repair work should be available to any consumer who owns the vehicle if the recall work has never been performed on the vehicle? I am just second owner of vehicle and have only owned the vehicle just over a year. Although high mileage, this truck runs and looks great.
Tl the contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 09v444000 (structure). The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for an exhaust service in October of 2018 and the mechanic noticed that the entire frame was severely rusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the recall repair was completed; therefore, no further assistance was offered. The dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 96,957.
My 2000 Tundra frame has rusted through to the point that it does not pass the va state inspection. There is a frame recall for Tundras of this make and model, however my VIN is not included in the recall for some reason. Toyota says that NHTSA determines what vins are included. I have significant rust including holes in the frame as well as a sway bar on the front passenger side that has totally broken away due to rust. How can I get my truck included in the frame recall action as the current recalls for my VIN only apply to the rear of the truck (not my failures) and only addresses putting a coating on the frame which will not address my issue. I am the original owner and the truck has been maintained in va throughout its life. I have recently (~1 year ago) also totally replaced all of the exhaust system at my own expense due to rust (nearly $4,000 worth of work). No frame should have this much rust issues unless there was a defect in the manufacturing process. My frame needs to be replaced to allow the truck to pass the va state inspection.
Severe frame rust, purchase truck from Toyota dealer in 2015. Toyota recall in Nov. 2009 that ended 2012. I was told by the dealer truck was inspected in 2012 and pass. I have plenty of picture's but can't upload here.
My mechanic told me my frame is rusting horribly. There is a hole 6inch by 6 inch near the rear tire. He thought he heard of a recall about this. I only have 44,000 miles on the truck. Purchased new, only had 1 mile on odometer. 12no major highway miles. I live 6 miles from work.
The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While the vehicle was undergoing service, the technician noticed that the entire frame was rusted out. The vehicle could not be driven. The failure occurred without warning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but did not return the contact's call. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 09v444000 (structure) and 01e041000 (trailer hitches). The failure mileage was 143,481.
The total frame is rusted with holes, was taken to local dealership due to recall of frame, and was told there is nothing they could do because Toyota does not supply them with the chemicals nor the equipment to fix the issue, if I wanted it fixed to take it back to new jersey were it was originally purchased. This is a hazard to my teenage driver as well as others due to at any point the vehicle may break apart causing a crash/collision injuring someone potentially death. Toyota has completely ignored all my concerns stating there is nothing they can do.
The frame was seriously rusting. Toyota had a recall for this which was not notified to me via mail. One of the argument from Toyota not to do this recall is that time window is over (at the same time one of their associate told that there is no time limit for a safety recall). The inspection department at the dealership was not including the damage on the frame in the inspection. In the recall for frame replacement, what I got replaced is the cable holding the spare tire only (safety issue that the tire may fall down) ignoring the serious hole and rust in the actual frame. Here is the picture of my frame which the condition is clearly visible.
Hello, can you provide some direction regarding frame rust on my 2000 Toyota Tundra, ( VIN# 5tbbt4411ys051051) ? I have contacted the dealer where I purchased the vehicle (friedrick's located in lebanon , PA). This dealer has since changed ownership and thus their store name. The new dealer refused to help me with my recall. I cannot get my truck inspected due to extreme frame rust. My inspection mechanic found this rust damage and cannot by pennsylvania regulations, pass this truck for inspection. He alerted me to the fact that there is a recall from Toyota, to repair such rust damaged frames. However in speaking with the dealer (formally frederick's of lebanon, PA), they refused to help me in this matter. My truck has less than 150,000 miles on it, in good condition except for the rust. If possible, please provide info where to have this recall work completed. Regards. 610-926-4686.
Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the steering wheel was turned but the wheels would not turn. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the steering housing separated from the frame and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repairable because the frame was rusted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Pam.
I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra sr5 4wd. It was a vehicle that was sold and spent several years in PA. In 2010 my truck was taken into a Toyota dealership in PA to have a frame rust inspection performed due to a Toyota recall related to rust. At the time they replace fuel tank straps and found no other rust perforation on the frame. In 2014 there was still a growing amount of rust spreading in other areas of the frame. It was taken to Toyota in raleigh, nc. Service manager there at the time recommended a frame replacement due to excessive rust. No frame was ever ordered. Now over two years later my truck still have the rust and then some on the frame. I cannot hang a spare tire in the rear due to the rust. The frame have 2 holes in it and is unsafe. Toyota refuses to replace the frame even though it was recommended in 2014 and was still under the warranty period. I have called and called and have opened up a case with Toyota for this issue. They still refuse to replace it no matter what I say and the proof of the damage as a result of poor quality on their part. The truck is unsafe and it should have a new frame under it. I was told by my case manager that since it had been inspected previously in 2010 that there is nothing they can do about the excessive rust that appeared in 2014. Ridiculous!!!! the rust appeared. Under warranty. Needed a frame in 2014. Unsafe. Period!!!.

Truck failed annual inspection due to extreme rust of frame and cross members to the point of frame perforation and imminent failure. Frame directly under driver's seat rusted through where it joins the cross member under the transmission. Frame in front of passenger rear tire extremely rusted where it joins the cross member. The inspector stated this was a more imminent concern than the rusted through portion under the driver because it had a good chance of breaking with the next pothole. Leaf springs for drivers rear tire also extremely rusted. Rear differential housing rusted through on the top with oil leaking out. Exhaust heat shields and hangers rusted away completely. There was no mention of the rear cross member over the spare tire or the gas tank straps being an issue. They could be but were not the imminent concern at this point. I had just replaced the radiator/transmission cooler due to rusting through and anti-freeze entering the transmission and transmission fluid in the cooling system. There were other issues that are apparently common with the Tundra - leaking/cracked manifolds, etc. The truck is at the local dealer pending repair. Technician stated it was the worst case of undercarriage rust he had seen.
The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the subframe was severe rusted and corroded. The vehicle was taken to lynch Toyota of manchester, CT where it was confirmed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. No assistance was offered. The contact indicated that the vehicle was examined in 2014 per NHTSA campaign number: 09v444000 (structure), but no service was performed due to insufficient amount of rust at that time. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,000.
I believed that my vehicle's transmission overheated, so I had it towed to tri-county Toyota in limerick PA. They checked it and found nothing wrong with transmission because they refused to test drive it due to rusted off of frame, right rear leaf spring shackle. Tri-county told me to take vehicle to sanatoga auto body in sanatoga PA to have them fix it, santatoga told me about recall and that tri-county should have check on that when it was there. Tri-county wrote on my paperwork that it was unsafe to drive. I was unaware of the 90m recall. I called corporate headquarters regarding the recall and they stated that my truck was not in the system, so I gave them the VIN number. They stated to me that this welded shackle is not apart of the recall. Headquarters told me to make another appt. At tri-county Toyota to have the recall check done, which is on 7/23/2013. Is there anything that can be done?.

2000 Toyota rundra frame rust - recall id 64780. Analyzed by my mechanic and he says there are issues. Known problem. Toyota Tundra 2000 frame severly rusted. According to mechanic, maybe a risk to me and others. I have owned Toyotas since 1984, and have never been so disappointed and appalled. Is hntsa doing anything or is this a waste of my time? what do I do?.
Severe frame rust on 20000 Toyota Tundra. I had this inspected last year and they said Toyota did not have anything in place to prevent the frame from rusting. The truck was in for wheel alignment and now I am told they can no longer align the vehicle because of the rust and structural defect from the rust. The dealer says Toyota does not pay to "derust" the frame but will inspect until the rust recall ends in 3/2012. Please help!.
I bought my 2000 Tundra new in 1999. The frame is rusting beyond normal limits and I am afraid to drive it. I have had it checked by Toyota and they told me that if they hit the frame with a hammer and the hammer does not go through the frame then it's ok. I don't agree with that.
Our 2000 Toyota Tundra has developed frame rust. In 2005 we noticed the condition of the frame deteriorating, so we took it to a local dealer here in south florida. They explained it would cost a lot of money to fix, more than we could afford. Toyota issued a "voluntary recall" last year that covers my make and model truck, which a couple of independent body shops (including one partnered with Toyota) says is now unsafe to operate. Unfortunately on page 73 of the recall documentation sent to the dealers, Toyota dictates that the frame needs to have a 10mm hole/perforation. Palm beach Toyota (the dealer I went to) agrees that my frame is completely rusted but because Toyota (corporate) dictates that I should have a through and through 10 mm size hole, they will not honor the recall. Please note, I have some portions of the frame that have fallen/flaked off (missing), but because they are no longer on the frame, they are not considered holes.
