2006 Toyota Tundra purchased new from Toyota dealership in central PA; one owner. Customer purchased dealer offered undercoating due to known climate conditions of central PA in order to prevent undercarriage corrosion. Same dealership (under new ownership) carried out corrosion inspection campaign in 2015; dealer conclusion-apply additional corrosion-resistant compound to frame (did they actually apply anything?). Pa inspection at independent garage in 2019 failed for frame corrosion (but no perforations?). Vehicle taken to place of purchase to repeat inspection; dealership also failed vehicle for PA inspection due to frame corrosion; suggested sending it to additional Toyota dealers for additional inspections and to call Toyota corporate. (note-failed areas and other inspection areas are now completely devoid of corrosion protection due to removal by inspection mechanics). Called Toyota corp. , they can't/won't help. Supervisor to call back. So far, Toyota will not rectify the issue. There are 100 year old Ford model t's on the road with frames that are perfectly healthy in PA, but a piece of junk made in the USA (which has been less than useless for the last 40 years), foreign owned corp. ,13 year Toyota is scrap!!! obsolescence and second class citizenship consumer products should be illegal and meant only for the billionaire class to experience! failure at 106,000 miles.
While driving in the city my power steering went out and made driving difficult. Upon taking my 2006 Tundra to the nearest dealer to get it fixed they informed me the frame had a hole in it and that the vehicle was not serviceable. It appears multiple recalls for multiple models were issued but not 2005 and 2006. This is something that Toyota should look at and extend the recall to these vehicles.
Visible crack in frame on the "c" where it meets the front axle.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that upon having the vehicle serviced by an independent mechanic, the mechanic discovered severe rust and corrosion on the frame and undercarriage of the vehicle. They also informed the contact that due to the severity of rust, over time, they would be unable to service the vehicle due to vehicle not being able to be placed on a lift. The manufacturer was informed of the failure where they informed the contact that a corrosion sealant had been placed on the frame; however, the corrosion overpowered the sealant application. The manufacturer offered no further assistance. A failure had not occurred on the vehicle to the corrosion. Jo.
My truck was recalled for rust underneath and was sprayed with under coating at that time. There is a lot of rust popping through where the bolts hold the bed to the frame. Rust is coming through several places including the bed frame bolts next to the cab. Is there anything that Toyota can do, since this started with a recall? william ingles. 606-465-2238.
Purchased the truck used and was recently inspected by Toyota which found corrosion and rust holes in both cross members holding the gas tank and spare tire. The truck is unsafe and I was told to remove the spare tire. Recalls are for the 2000-2003 Tundra leaving the 2004-2006 owners out of luck. I can't understand how these model years were left out given it's the same frame and all the other complaints. Please help these owners.
Frame rot on my 2006 Toyota Tundra.
The frame of the truck is rusting away too quickly.
Cross member of the frame has broken due to rust.
Rocker panels under the doors rotted out very fast. The factory bed liner also caused premature rust holes to form in the box. Debris can now fall out of the box from these when in transit.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. While approaching the vehicle, the contact noticed something hanging underneath. He discovered that the bracket near the rear of the vehicle used to hold the fuel tank was corroded and becoming detached. The contact called girard Toyota (located at 543 colman st, new london, CT 06320, (860) 447-3141) and was informed that there was no recall. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
63,000 miles frame is rotting out.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that there was significant rust accumulation on the frame of the vehicle. An independent mechanic discovered the rust upon inspecting the vehicle and warned the contact that it could lead to a potential safety defect. The contact spoke with waite Toyota (18406 us-11, watertown, NY 13601) and the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Just had truck inspection done by my mechanic and he told me there is a problem starting with the frame. He said contact Toyota that there was a frame recall. So I did they told me there was nothing they could do. Asked to speak to someone in charge and got a call back. Was told my truck was sprayed with the anti corrosion spray in 2014. But apparently it didn't work. Why did Toyota skip certain years of the Tundra? Toyota did a recall on the same year sequoia as my Tundra. They have the same frame. I don't understand and I can't be the only one with this problem something has to be done.
My 2006 Tundra is like new in all respects but one; all Toyota recommended routine and periodic maintenance performed by copeland Toyota for 13 years; frame has failed due to corrosion. Upon frame recall for corrosion in 2014, copeland indicated frame was "not that bad" and said they would just apply corrosion protection coating instead of replacing frame. I trusted and accepted their advice. Since then, Toyota forums indicate spray on coating exacerbates corrosion problem. Copeland replaced power steering unit last year; when I looked under truck to see new unit, was shocked at condition of frame. Next routine service appointment I asked copeland for their opinion on frame corrosion and they told me frame has failed. Poor condition of frame was obvious; stabilizer bar had pulled out of frame. How much more work would they have performed and charged me for if I had not brought subject up?? this is a safety issue! copeland sent me to Toyota . Com for help; Toyota. Com offered no assistance and pointed finger at copeland for their decision not to replace.
I received notification from Toyota 4 years ago that my Tundra had a potential frame issue regarding rust. I was instructed to bring it to a dealer for inspection which I did. I was told it would be inspected- if frame was intact but just rusted they would treat it with a coating , if it there were holes in the frame it would be replaced. My truck was at the dealer ( boch Toyota norwood MA) for several days. I was told frame intact, it was treated with rust proofing and coating. Last week the brakes failed- it took it to my mechanic and was told the brake line was rotted through causing leaking of brake fluid. There was no accident. When he replaced brake line he told me frame was rotted with large holes in several areas. I brought it back to dealer- told nothing they could do. I called Toyota and they told me the same.
Had truck towed due to broken brake line and was advised by mechanic that frame was severely corroded with holes above front wheels and was not safe to drive. Rear end also severely corroded. Contacted Toyota dealer, no warranty or recall on 2006 frames although Tundras and tacomas older and newer than 2006 are getting warrantied frame replacements due to recalls. Dealer went to the garage that had towed the truck and inspected the frame. Dealer advised us to get holes in frame fixed at our expense. Dealer verified that there was an earlier recall to spray frames, but the spray had limited availability from Toyota and they were unable to fulfill the recall when we brought the truck to them for this service. The vehicle currently has 150,000 miles on it and should have been drivable for many more. We lodged a complaint with Toyota USA on 11/14/2018, complaint# 181 114 1536 and are next entering a complaint with the nh attorney general.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the entire frame of the vehicle was completely rusted. The vehicle was diagnosed by two independent mechanics who recommended that it not be driven. The vehicle was taken to brunswick Toyota (3041 center rd, brunswick, OH 44212, (888) 890-1882) in 2015 to be repaired per an unknown recall to prevent the corrosion. The manufacturer was contacted and provided a case number, but stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the lemon law and they could not assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 161,000.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
While changing a fuel tank strap that broke due to rust, I noticed the cross member at the front of the fuel tank is rotted right through where it meets the main frame. Truck has been undercoated. I talked to Toyota and they told me they are not fixing it at this time as there is no recall. How ever the 2005 and 2006 sequoia are part of this recall as well as the 2007 to 2009 Tundra.
The frame on this 2006 Toyota Tundra has rusted to the point of making this vehicle unsafe to drive. This degradation has happened far sooner than the expected retirement age for this vehicle. Toyota has not included this frame as part of it's frame rot recall which applies to many other frames from similar years.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. While the vehicle went through an emissions inspection, the inspector failed the vehicle due to a corroded frame. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact called girard Toyota at (860) 447-3141 (located at 543 colman st, new london, CT 06320) where it was confirmed that no recall was associated with the VIN and there would be a fee for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the recall had expired. No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000. The VIN was unavailable.

I purchased truck used June 2016. . Somebody informed me later that there had been a rust issue with the frames on these models. Upon visual inspection it looks like at some point somebody tried to cover up with under spray. That has not held because a good portion of frame and cross member has rusted away. I called Toyota and they gave me two case numbers and said it was out of warranty and recall expired. I asked dealership to inspect for rust in January of 2017 and they said it was Toyota issue and to wait. I think it could be potential safety issue if trying to pull trailer and possible any other time. . Safety issues should not have expiration in my opinion. Not good feedback since January.
In 2014 received a recall notice on my frame I took it to a local dealership classic Toyota of mentor ohio they said frame needed replaced scheduled them to do all work they said it may be a few months before the frames in so I said okay and waited a few months hadn't heard from them call them ask them if it came in they said no I asked them if there was anyway to check on it they said no but the wait is normal and they would call me when it gets there so I waited a couple more months called them again and the same thing so I waited a couple more months call them again and again same thing so in February 2016 I called them up got the same response by this time it had been over a year so I called Toyota headquarters in California and ask them what was going on they called the dealership and it turned out the dealership never ordered the frame I have been going back and forth between the two and they are both refusing to do anything even though now there is a large rust hole through the frame and components are rusting out.
Just bought my Tundra low miles nice truck I just found a hole 1 inch by 6 inch on my frame by the engine mount on the right front.
The vehicle frame is showing major signs of rust. This apparently is a very common issue. When I contacted Toyota regarding this matter I was told that they issued a temporary service for this but I was never notified. This is a huge issue since whenever conponents need replacing the bolts must be cut off due to rusting. This is a safety issue as well since certain areas are thinning on the frame.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact did not receive a notification of the limited service campaign letter advising of a frame inspection. The manufacturer was notified; however, the limited service campaign ended last year and there was no reimbursement for taking the vehicle to a dealer to have the frame inspected. The contact had not experienced a failure.
