While driving on highway, felt a and heard a bump (no bumps in road) and lost most steering capabilities. After pulling to side of road. I noticed tires were pointed in different directions. After looking under the vehicle, I could see large rust holes in the frame and the rack was no longer connected to the frame. Toyota inspected the frame under recall in 2015 and said there were no problems and painted only the rear portion of the frame with an anti corrosion paint which has now also rusted away. I believe the frame should have been replaced under the original recall instead of covering with paint that did not do the job.
My 2006 Toyota Tundra was just serviced at reputable mechanic and alerted me to the rust hole through the passenger side leaf spring bracket. Additionally, the frame is separating from the truck due to the severity of the rust. The frame is defoliating in sheets of rust, very similar to the consistency of shale. Contacted corporate Toyota immediately. Case was pushed to a senior manager and finally received a return call 13 days later. They stated there was nothing that could warrant a frame replacement based on the age of my vehicle, the mileage (248,000) miles, and no current recalls. I find this totally unacceptable. Toyota is a company I thought was based on performance, reliability, and safety, but I guess it's not. I received the campaign to battle the rusty frames back in 2014 and was proactive and completed that at the dealer. The dealer performed the undercoating which did absolutely nothing but cover the rust and increase the breakdown of the frame. Since then, I had driven my truck to and from work and relied on it to safely transport my family everywhere, but not any longer. I find this to be comically irresponsible for Toyota to turn a blind eye. There are so many other 2006 Tundras that are having the same exact issues, however the class action lawsuit only lists 2007-2008 Tundras that could warrant frame replacement. However, a coworker just took his 2005 Tundra in for the airbag recall, and they discovered the frame needed to be replaced. It has over 200,000 miles similar to mine and is getting a new frame??? corporate Toyota wouldn't comment on that. I'm at a loss and don't understand how Toyota expects anyone to just walk away and do nothing. Class action lawsuit will occur again for the 2006 Tundras. It doesn't matter if there is no warranty, or campaign, or recall. The Toyota name is on the Tundra and that is what makes them liable. Join me!.
I've owned the truck for a year bought on Dec 2019 3rd owner. I see that mines not listed as recalled for frame rust but I'm not sure why when the gas tank looks like it going to fall off and seems only critical sections are severely rusted like the gas tank and where the rear shock absorber sits. I could only see these spots now because they are hard to spot places where the frame joins.
My vehicle recently failed inspection due to frame rust in the rear and possibly in the front of the vehicle. I previously had taken the vehicle to a local Toyota dealer to inspect the frame during a recall notice. The dealership did not do anything to the vehicle. The vehicle has almost 196,000 miles and should last a lot longer. But it is useless now and the frame rust problems of these models is unacceptable. The frame should be able to last the duration of the vehicle and Toyota has known about this problem for a very long time.
Frame is rusting away in different areas. Cannot attach a tow hitch since the rust is making the whole tail end brittle. Don't know when the entire frame will be unsafe to drive. I bought this car recently but it was used up until 2016 in north states where there is a lot of snow and ice.
Handed down 2006 Tundra to my son, he took it in for small leak and the mechanic said frame was rusted so bad there were holes in it!! we had the "recall" work done in 2015. We were never offered a new frame, they said we only needed the spray. Now 5 yrs later we can't even let our son drive his own truck!! it has 230,000 miles. Still alot of miles left and the body has some minor blemishes but in good condition. Don't have any pictures right now, just found out about it. Called Toyota resolution line and they said there is nothing they can do!! I refuse to accept this bc we did what we were supposed to do and they aren't even living up to their own "fix"!! cannot afford a new frame for my son right now! need help or guidance with this!.
Frame rusted, Toyota will not replace. Never sent me inspection notice, they say I missed my opportunity. Not happy, disabled and only transportation. Covered for a certain amount of time, but was never notified.
2006 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to rusting frame. In 2015 consumer received a recall for the frame of the vehicle. Vehicle was taken to sullivan brothers Toyota (kingston, MA) and the frame was sprayed with rust inhibitor. Consumer took vehicle to dealer in December 2019 to have frame inspected. Consumer was told that there was some surface rust that was no threat to vehicle. On 01/06/2020 a brake line broke and vehicle was taken to the dealer. Consumer was told that in the rear of the vehicle the frame was almost rusted through. He was also informed that the gas tank was wired to the frame. Consumer says that he was not informed when this took place. Consumer requested to have the frame replaced, but dealer referred him to the manufacturer. Manufacturer refused to provide assistance.
My 2006 Tundra has a hole in the frame due to rusting out which has made the passenger side sway bar to come detached from the frame. Toyota advised me this model year is not part of any recall for the known frame rust issue with Toyota trucks and refuses to assist in any way to address this issue. Completely unacceptable when Toyota is fully aware of the frame issue. Toyota case # 1911082203.
Informed that frame has developed rust issues. Vehicle was coated by dealer in 2014 with corrosion resistant compound following a letter indicating Toyota was aware of this issue. Today my mechanic following routine maintenance showed me the rusting frame. 10/24/19. I took vehicle to thompson Toyota service and was informed there is no recall on this years model. I called Toyota and was informed it's not covered. It is upsetting that previous years were covered and sequoia models are covered. .
Rusted frame.
A few years back had taken the truck in for the frame recall. Underside of the truck was quite rusty and was hoping for a new frame to be put on. Instead, was informed by the dealership that that was not going to happen for my truck. Instead, the frame was to be "undercoated" to protect the truck from further rust. The dealership also informed me that the current procedure from Toyota, at that time, was to only undercoat the cab of the truck and not the entire frame. Dealership stated that they would be undercoating entire frame which they did do. After getting truck back from dealership looked underneath and saw that entire frame was sprayed with some form of black material. Now this undercoating is peeling off and the frame is rusting again.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while in for routine maintenance the independent mechanic discovered that the sub frame had rusted and corroded. The vehicle was then taken to the local dealer Toyota of brookfield(20655 w. Capital dr, brrokfield WI) who diagnosed that the frame needed to be replaced due to the rusting and corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 145,000. Jft case 1-907183063.
This vehicle had the frame recall done by a local dealer - Toyota of nashua in nashua, nh - and the dealer performed the undercoating remedy poorly, and not per the guidelines of the recall. Within a year the undercoating started flaking off, and I now have a 2-3" hole in the frame, caused by rust. Recall undercoating was done in 2014. Dealer is telling me there's nothing they can do, Toyota is telling me the same thing. They're letting me deal with my own rusted frame that they should be responsible for.
Toyota frame rust: I was informed by my local mechanic today that my 2006 Toyota Tundra will not pass virginia's yearly safety inspection because of hole in the frame as a result of corrosion. My truck participated in Toyota's limited service campaign d0d in 2014 and a rust resistant coating was applied to combat a known corrosion issue with their truck frames. I was told the frame was inspected, found to be clean, and the coating applied. I contacted Toyota and was told "there is nothing we can do for you". I have found existing lawsuits addressing this exact issue on other Toyota models including 2007 and 2008 Tundras. The settlement in these cases involve complete frame replacement. It is obvious to me that Toyota knows there is something wrong, but choosing to do nothing.

My Toyota Tundra has sever frame rust and will not pass inspection. The truck has 173,000 miles on it and I just got it paid off and will now have to junk it.
My frame is rusting badly and there is metal separating where the leaf springs mount to the frame.
Frame has rust holes . Had to replace rearend housing due to rust holes.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 10 mph and approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. The contact coasted the vehicle to a field until it finally stopped. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. When the vehicle was placed on the lift, the mechanic noticed that the frame was severely rusted, including all the other components beneath. The vehicle was taken to kinderhook Toyota (1908 NY 9h, hudson, NY 12534) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had severe rust failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 143,766. The VIN was unknown.
The entirety of the vehicle frame is rusted. Cross-members supporting the bumper and spare tire are rotted and/or falling away from the main frame. I purchased the vehicle used with undercoating applied, but the frame rust was already too extensive underneath and caused significant corrosion.
Frame rust on front of vehicle in the "crumple" zone. I was told by Toyota that it was part of limited service campaign d0d for 2004-2006 Tundras and that a sealant was applied in June 2014 and no other action will be taken. These vehicles clearly have structural integrity issues due to known frame rusting resulting from a manufacturing deficiency that are beyond the scope of the limited service campaign for the 2004-2006 model years just like the 2000-2003 Tundra vehicles that were subject to full recall. The NHTSA should take action with the 2004-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles to ensure Toyota addresses the safety related structural integrity concerns with the frames of these vehicles as they have for the 2000-2003 and 2007-2008 model years.
Rusting of frame impacts structural integrity of vehicle. 2004-2006 model years were subject to a voluntary limited service campaign on the heels of a recall to the 2000-2003 model years. The limited service campaign is ineffective at mitigating the safety concern over the structural integrity of the vehicle. 2007-2008 are subject to recall as well. Nhtsa should address this matter to ensure Toyota resolves the serious safety issues associated with a rusting frame.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the frame was rusted with holes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact called a local dealer (fred anderson Toyota in asheville, 777 brevard rd, asheville nc, 28806). The manufacturer was notified of the issue and did not assist. The failure mileage was 164,000.
Frame has holes in frame alot of rust entire frame would not pass inspection 62,ooo miles on truck.
Frame rust - I am experiencing major frame rust on my vehicle. It effects 90% of the frame, the brake lines, control arms and even the alignment components. Most recently my alignment components seized up with rust and now the vehicle can not be properly aligned with out replacement of those components. This has cause abnormal tire wear. Toyota has recalled 2000-2003 Tundra frames. Also Toyota has now have been sued for the 2005-2007 sequoia frames & and 2007-2008 Tundras. My vehicle needs a recall as well!!! this is a very serious safety issue!!.
I received a recall on my trucks airbag control module took my truck to dealer they said they would order the part and call me to make an appointment for installation I went back three times to dealer with no success also the recall they made on my truck last year the frame rusting out did not last every thing they did fell off the frame of my truck is this truck safe to drive.
Truck had front gas tank strap rust out. Went to dealer for repair. Was told repair couldn't be completed because frame had rusted out in that area. 2014 Toyota had a rust campaign and dealer applied corrosion rust coating. Frame still rusted! was informed by dealer unsafe to drive. Recalls on all other years except 2006. Truck sits in driveway basically is a pile of scrap. Called Toyota corporate received case #. Case manager told me sorry cannot help the rust coating was a one time fix. So now am stuck with a truck unsafe to drive. !!!!thanks Toyota!!!!.
Anti corrosion paint was put on the frame a year and half later and my truck will not pass inspection and Toyota will do nothing they want me to believe that the frame rusted out in a year and a half and was fine when they put the coating on.
2006 Toyota Tundra. Consumer writes in regards to frame rusting on vehicle.
2006 Toyota Tundra truck bed started rusting several years ago. There was a recall for the rusted frame but not the bed. Surrounding metal area surrounding all screws that hold bed onto frame completely rusted. Golf ball size holes in bed as well. Rusting rapidly. When I called Toyota corporate, the response was, "if we fix it for you, we have to fix it for everyone. " I do not have the monies to repair a defective product. This is not right. Spent too much on this vehicle. Inside bed looks like the current pictures of thetitanic. I am at a complete loss. Should not have to pay for this defect.
It started with my gas tank falling off the frame. My wife was driving the truck at the time the gas tank band broke that holds the gas tank to the frame. I then found a hole in the frame on the driver's side, just in front of the sway bar mount, large enough to place my hand in to the center of my palm. Obviously, this vehicle is not safe to drive. I then contacted my dealer that I purchased the vehicle from, down east Toyota of brewer, me. The lady I spoke with (lynn), from down east Toyota of brewer, maine, was condescending and arrogant eluding that the problem was somehow my fault. I learned from her that apparently there was a recall for rusted frames. I do not recall getting this recall information. But let that go, my dealer that I bought the truck from (down east Toyota in brewer, maine) has told me that I should feel fortunate that I got 10 years from the truck. Since this is as long as they are supposed to last anyways. My dealer (down east Toyota of brewer, maine) told me my option was that they have a person that buys used vehicles and I could make an appointment with them to see what the junk buyer would give me for my truck. Or, I could pay to have the frame replaced. Given the severity of this kind of issue, and the safety issues raised with a damaged frame, I would have expected to receive notification through registered mail of the issue. Or at least, a follow up letter to insure the first notice was received. As I said, I do not remember getting such notification. I have written to Toyota and have heard nothing back as of yet.
The frame is rusting. I called and was told the notice I received was for air bag issues according to the dealer. So I called corporate and was told the notice on my rust issues expired July of 2015. What I don't understand is why I received the notice for the airbag but not the rust issue? and now that I know about it and want to get it resolved they wont do anything? I have had to replace a ball joint because of this issue and I am surprised there is not a recall. The frames will eventually rust apart til the snap. Are we waiting for a certain amount of people to die before holding them accountable? this isn't some small issue, this can be life threatening. I maintain my vehicle very well. It gets all the routine things done and only a mechanic touches it, it is never worked on at home in the garage. I love my Toyota and I am very shocked they haven't gone further to correct their wrong. They made the mistake and didn't protect it not me. I do everything I am supposed to do to keep my vehicle in tip top condition so I am not left stranded on the side of the road.
Stabilizer links rotted off, fixed. Front end failing, falling apart at 78,000 miles. Also truck frame rusting badly, received recall 3rd notice a year after they expired it. I never received 1st 2 notices, they don't come not registered mail. We had mail issues with usps! the regular mailman was out for 2 years with cancer so we had substitute mailmen, we didn't always get our mail, get other peoples mail etc. . We would of called about the recall if we knew! I called Toyota corporate, they didn't care, said I had 3 notices, I only received 1 notice and it was a year after it expired! I am 2nd owner. The front end in the truck is falling apart, horrible vibrating/bumping and banging when driving down the road, truck now has 92k, I googled and it came back lower ball joint problem recall, 2006 Tundra. If it was serviced by previous owner and ball joint failed again wouldn't be recalled covered again? how do you find out if it was fixed the 1st time? I don't want to put more money into it if it is covered under a recall! I bought it with 58k, it was always garaged and only did vacation trips/highway miles, previous owner worked from home. I go 7 miles/day. And highway vacation trips. Previous owner was elderly and has passed away. Any service records I don't have, but he maintained it well! recalls should come registered mail! we also have a seat belt problem, they don't always work. They jam, don't recoil, get stuck.
