Milton martin Toyota in oakwood, GA has confirmed that 3 wheel bearings are bad and need to be replaced. 1x front left wheel bearing replaced on 12/06/21 and both rear wheel bearings are being replaced on 12/14/21. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? answer - yes, if a dealership qualifies as the manufacturer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? answer - yes, noise from the wheels while driving. No warning lamps or messages. I noticed the "roaring" noise around 11/12/2021.
While checking air pressure in tires and tpms sensor snapped off.
Rear wheel or axle bearings make a noticeable loud humming sound when driving at road speed limit, especially when moving slightly left into a curve or right into a curve.
At only 77,000 miles the axle bearings have failed. This is unbelievable since sealed bearings are supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. The Toyota dealership parts manager says these bearings fail frequently on the Tundras.
Rear wheel bearings failed (but still functional) at 17000 miles. Wheels still rotate but there is a very loud droning noise at highway speeds with a slight squeal at lower speeds. Non-Toyota mechanics have expressed concerns about driving the vehicle as bearings can fail altogether and seize the wheels.
