Air Brake Problems of Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra 2008 trd rear sway bar failure - rear trd sway bar assembly hardware on 2008 Tundra is actually cracking and causing a dangerous situation and bending the rear brake line to the point that if I had not caught the problem my rear brakes would have failed. I was under my truck doing a general inspection and noticed that my left rear trd bilstien shock was leaking. I contacted Toyota and told them about the problem and without hesitation they ordered the part without even seeing the truck. Unfortunately when I took the truck in Toyota had ordered a standard shock and not a bilstien shock, so I picked my truck back up from them until they got the correct part. A few days latter I noticed a knock coming from my truck and when I had isolated the knock I identified it as the left strap on my trd sway bar kit. What I concluded is that the left rear shock leaking caused too much travel. The extensive travel of the shock caused too much stress on the strap of the sway bar kit and in-turn the strap failed and split in half exposing the rubber bushing (I have pictures of this). I called Toyota and informed them of the problem and talked to walter yamamoto the service writter at piercy Toyota of milpitas California. I told walter that the sway bar was pressing on the rear break line and had bent it upwards and was now leaning against the rear break line. At no time did walter advise me to take the truck in to the service department. I finally got to scared to drive the truck and took it too Toyota and advised them that it was to much of a safety issued to continue to drive the truck. I asked walter to take a look at the sway bar and he saw the issue. I had contacted a couple of other people that confirmed the same thing had happened to their trucks, but when I asked walter if this had happened to anyone else he replied "no". This is a serious problem for Toyota because they have sold many of these sway bar kits to Tundra owners form 2007 to present.

The Toyota Tundra 2007-2010 carry a major saftey issues all over the net, under error code p2415 or p2440 or p2441 or p2442 series of errors, which prevent the truck from accelerating or stopping properly for that matter. I was towing when the check engine light came out while driving ( I mean driving) on the hwy, towing somewhat a heavy load & all of sudden while going uphill the engine just lost power instead of me going forward I got stuck, and if it was not for the other drivers being aware I would have been severly injured or killed along with my four kids,to make a miserable long story short,I find out this proplem is amajor issue and a defect in Toyota Tundras, and it cost consumer like me $3500 up to $5000 to fix it involve an air supply unit to the engine to shut down. . . . . . . I need to get this issue to be looked at I have four kids were riding with me that day. . . . I cant believe the damage I avoided & the concept behind this stupid design. I have a 2002 Toyota Tundra with a braking problem. I have had a vibration in the truck when breaking since we bought it new. I brought this problem to the attention of the two local Toyota dealers, they both said that there wasn't anything wrong with the brakes. I just recently replaced the brakes and had the rotors turned. This did not help. It still vibrates and the brakes are spongy. I again talked to my local dealer and they finally said that they new that there was a problem with the brakes and it is very expensive to fix. Of course they told me this after the warranty ran out. I have seen many other posts on this same issue, I believe an investigation is in order.

My Tundra is a 2001 and it has just under 36,000 miles. The brakes cause the front end to shake severely. I replaced the pads about a month ago but the problem seems to have gotten worse. I understand from other sites that the standard brake system for the Tundra is inadequate. I'll probably just get rid of the truck instead of fighting with the dealer to have it fixed. This really muddies the Toyota reputation for me. Guess I'll go back to europe to get my next vehicle.

Just like another consumer listed I too had a failed transmission. The cost to repair was around $3,100. 00. A barely 4 yr old truck should not have lost a transmission already. We own a 1970 model chev p/u that has never had a transmission. The quality of Toyota has not stood up to the cost of the "better" manufactured vehicle. I am truly disapointed in the quality, one of the handles in the back has stripped out and is about to fall off, the back dirver's window lock has broken and flops in the wind when the window is open. I am also experiencing the very same brake shutter has other consumers and I just paid for a $450. 00 brake job with new rotors and pads and still have the shutter. Now after reading these other reports I am concerned about reliability of my truck.

Brake problems from day one. Replaced all brake parts less than one year ago. Brakes stopped working 10-15-02 with no warning. No stopping ability at all took truck to dealer. Dealer said major brake failure having much trouble with Tundra brakes are too small for truck. Would not tell what parts changed. Dt.
