1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/15/2020

I was merging into traffic on to mass 93 highway when my check engine light, trac off light and blinking 4 loe came on. The engine went into limp mode greatly reducing my power and I lost control and. I had to pull off the lane. I was able to make it to the next exit and get to a mechanics shop. They hooked up a analysis computer and came back with maintenance code p2432, secondary air pumps and secondary air pump valves. I found out that this has been an ongoing issue with Toyota Tundras going back to 2007 models. The warranty has been extended on 2007 - 2010 models but not newer models which are still experiencing the same problem. I feel this problem constitutes a potentially dangerous safety hazard due to the drastic reduction in power which could cause an accident depending on when the parts in question fail. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.

Lights: abs, brake, 4lo, 4hi, hazard triangle, bsm, traction contol, rcta. Warning messages: drive start control malfunction, visit your dealer. Blind spot monitor malfunction, visit your dealer. Trailer brake error, if toeing come to a safe stop with manual controls, contact dealer. Rear cross traffic alert malfunction, visit your dealer. When this happened I pulled over to a stop, placed the truck in park and turned it off. Waited 10 sec and turned it back on, same messages and lights were on. Aprox 30sec later all lights turned off and everything was back to normal.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

I was coming off an entrance ramp merging into traffic on to a 4 lane highway when my check engine light, trac off light and blinking 4 loe came on. The engine went into limp mode greatly reducing my power and it felt like my steering control got loose. I had to pull off the road to keep from being run over by faster traffic. I was able to make it to the next off ramp and get to a mechanics shop. They hooked up a analysis computer and came back with maintenance code p2432, secondary air pumps and secondary air pump valves. Upon further research of this issue I have found out that this has been an ongoing issue with Toyota Tundras going back to 2007 models. The warranty has been extended on 2007 - 2010 models but not newer models which are still experiencing the same problem. My vehicle is considered low mileage for a 2012 with only 79,786 miles. I feel this problem constitutes a potentially dangerous safety hazard due to the drastic reduction in power which could cause an accident depending on when the parts in question fail.

9 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2018 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

Pre-crash system does not work properly, with no vehicle in front of me while driving on the hwy, at times if a vegicle passes me on either left or right side, the crash warning beeped and brakes applied, note: no one is in front of me, this has happened a few times, since the initial recall for updates, my pre-crash system inticates its on, however, its not working, yesterday at about 2:15 pm on 8/27/2018 it failed and I hit someone in the rear and speed under 10 mph, I was told by fred anderson Toyota of sanford nc service department that they have had some that was out of calibration and that mine should have worked wether if cruise control is on or off. . Well it doesn't not work, my truck goes into Toyota today 8/28/2018 at fred anderson Toyota to be checked again since the software recall update. I have 650. 00 in damage to my truck, not sure on the amount of the vehicle I hit because the system failed. I have been reading a lot of complaints on this issue, and it seams Toyota is not doing nothing.

10 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

I see several other complaints here with my exact problem. The secondary air injection system relay and secondary air injection system switching valve. Obd ii codes p0418 and p2442. My experience is the same as other complaints in that my truck is now permanently in limp mode and cannot be driven due to these known defective parts. On pre-2012 model Tundras Toyota has extended the repair warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles as this is a widespread problem. For some reason they will not include later year model trucks like my 2012 4. 6 liter. This is a safety issue as the truck slowed severely in traffic and will not accelerate or go up any hill. Cars behind me in traffic had to swerve around me. I was stuck dead at the bottom of a hill as these chronically failing parts shut down the vehicle's power. Toyota customer care has denied my attempt to seek compensation or repair of these parts that they know are defective. The fix needs to be extended to all year model and engine size Tundras as these defective parts exist on models past 2011. A side note, somehow these defects are reported to be affecting the vehicle skid control as that warning light comes on when these parts fail on most of the affected Tundras.

11 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

Secondary air injection pump and secondary air injection switching value causing check engine and trac control lights to come on. I was told by the dealer that the same piece and design was recalled on the 2011 but not the 2012 Tundra. It comes on and off but when it is on it feels like that there is a limp mode making it difficult to get up to speed on the highway. The steering feels different which I think is the traction control.

The vsc it is blinkin the acelerator dont respond the transmition vivration when push pedal.

24 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

Truck in limp mode. Would not exceed 40mph. Vehicle limped home and towed to dealer. Rodents had chewed electrical wires per Toyota dealer. Upon investigation Toyota began using soy-based wiring in their vehicles instead of petroleum-based and didn't notify their customers. Soy-based products in vehicles have been known to "attract" rodents versus petroleum based products. My 2012 Tundra was still under warranty and Toyota denied said warranty because it wasn't a "failure" of their parts. The vehicle would not accelerate properly or steer properly because the traction control and ecm had failed. This could cause serious injury or harm due to an unsuspecting interruption in speed and traffic flow, as a result of wiring separation occurring while operating the vehicle.

25 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

On June 13th. My 2008 Toyota Tundra inexplicably cought on fire. The fire was located on the left side of the dash and the left front door. The truck was running, idle with the air conditioner on the windows were up. I had both of my small dogs inside. I was not in the truck . That day was clear sky and starting to get hot for the dogs . I always leave the truck running with ac on for them. I was busy working on a 2000 hino medium duty truck. My truck was parked next to the hino . I was in the hino. My client alerted me of smoke coming out of my cab. I immediately went to open the door all I saw was smoke and one of my dogs was barking the other I had to go in to find. He was alive but not barking. I removed both dogs the fire had melted my dash on the left side there was not any flames on dash just smoke the only flames where on my jacket that I had left on the floor driver side front. I pulled my jacket out through onto ground . My client than told me to use a fire extinguisher to be safe. I did . Thats it I didnt call fire department . The fire was over but it caused allot of damage. I don't understsnd how this could happen. I first tried to get someone to inspect it before I took to Toyota dealership where I bought truck new. Could not find one in area. I took to dealer about 3 weeks later they could not explain it so they directed me to Toyota headquarters on July 31st. Now Toyota headquarters has not told me what caused this fire I'm assuming they are still investigating it. Can you please come and look at my truck I did take some pictures if you would like. Thank you. The fire happened in south san francisco in a parking lot for a big warehouse. Buisness area not residential.

28 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/27/2017

My check engine light has come on. As well as the lights stating the vehicle stability control and traction control systems have been disabled. The transmission will not shift out of third gear and the vsc being off is causing an unsafe driving condition due to slipping tires around corners at normal speeds. Upon checking the engine code p2714 and p0751 I have come to find out there is an internal Toyota technical service bulletin circulating their dealership service departments dating back to November 28, 2007 when this issue was first discovered. The bulletin is named tc017-07. Also upon further investigation I have found numerous posts about this code and the exact issues my vehicle suffers from on multiple Toyota Tundra message and internet chat groups. This is a very serious issue which could easily cause loss of life or property if these vehicles with this issue are suddenly prone to the vsc and transmission acting abnormally. This issue for me came up very suddenly with no prior warning as the dash lights came in while driving. I will be asking totota to fix this issue at their cost with the remedy they describe in their service bulletin. The remedy they recommend is to replace the transmission and reprogram the ecm.

29 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

Recall secondary air injection system - Toyota recalled this part up to 2010 and has excluded the 2011. Extended warranty will not cover this part because Toyota is aware of this problem and the extended warranty has a bulletin including the 2011. Toyota will not cover this part because Toyota excludes the 2011. This is a $2,500 repair. Check engine light came on, poor acceleration then occurred, vehicle would not accelerate. We were on a 4 lane highway in town.

30 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/23/2016

Vehicle accelerated when taking foot off gas (engine reved) and accelerated on its own causing vehicle to spin out during winter driving conditions and sent vehicle smashing into cement barrier. Vehicle has accelerated on its own since driving off lot in November, 2016. At first I thought this was an issue with the four wheel drive, but it's clearly an acceleration issue. I've also tested this and was able to make it nearly 1. 5 miles from my home, mostly up hill without even stepping on the gas. In addition, my rear tires spin when in drive when on snow or ice when not engaging the gas pedal. Engine revs while this happens, as it did during my collision. Toyota currently has vehicle and advised that this case was escalated to corporate due to circumstances.

31 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

My 2012 Toyota Tundra is equipped with Toyota's vehicle stability control (vsc). One of the features of the vsc is when the computer perceives a loss of traction, the computer (without the driver's consent) attempts to correct the loss of traction by braking and/or engaging one or both of the front tires. In November of 2016, the vsc on my Tundra (with only 43k miles) began to fail and instead of becoming inoperable and doing nothing, the vsc attempts to engage the front tire(s) during routine turning movements. This causes a jerking sensation in the steering wheel and the vehicle pulls sharply to one-side. This could cause a loss of control. The vehicle has been to the dealer three times and I have spent nearly $2,800 trying to correct the problem. To date, Toyota has been unable to correct the problem or disable the feature. It is my opinion the vsc system in the 2012 Tundra is unsafe. This is not only based on the fact I am the owner of a defective Tundra, prior to retiring in November 2015; I worked for the California highway patrol for more than 27 years as an officer and sergeant. I investigated numerous traffic collisions, worked in specialized investigation units and received advanced training in traffic accident reconstruction. I know firsthand that a sudden and unexpected pull on a steering wheel, such as I am experiencing in my Tundra, could cause a driver to lose control. Therefore, it is my opinion based on the aforementioned that the vsc system on the 2012 Toyota Tundra is defective and potentially dangerous.

32 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2016 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/08/2015

The drivetrain on my 2016 Toyota Tundra are not allowing the wheels to rotate freely. Additionally, the wheels are locking up on the truck. On 6 Dec, I picked up my Tundra from the dealership¿s service depart after having the rear differential repaired. The vehicle started to drive sluggish. As I neared my home, I tried to test the 2wd and 4wd functions of the vehicle. I attempted to test the repair that was done. The wheels on the vehicle started to have problems rotating freely and locking up. While in 4wd the vehicle would not move. It appeared as if the breaks were locked on the vehicle. Four days later, the vehicle still drives sluggish. While driving at speeds of 45mph, I would take my foot off the accelerator and the vehicle would almost come to a complete stop on its own. Currently the vehicle acts like it wants to drive in 4wd low and high mode. Additionally, the wheels are acting like they do not want to rotate freely. As of 6am on 8 Dec, I cannot drive the vehicle over 25 mph. The vehicle is idling over 4000 rpm and not changing gears. The vehicle is registering being in 4wd low but the selector switch is on 2wd mode.

33 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

My vsc off light has been blinking when I started my truck when I got off work at 3:00p. M. Central time. My check engine light is on as well. I brought my truck to auto zone for a diagnostics test and came up with code p2440. My vsc off light came on one day not loo long ago, but went off so I thought nothing of it. Loss of power.

34 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

My vehicle first had its wiring harness destroyed by a rodent of some sort a couple of weeks ago. After sending it to the repair shop and $7000 dollars later, I brought my truck home and everything worked fine. I tried many remedies to discourage the rodents from returning but nothing seems to deter them from the soy based insulation on my trucks wiring harness. I now have to send my truck back for repairs to the same wiring harness ($7000) as before, and also another wiring harness which will probably cost close to the same. How can Toyota get away with making insulation out of rodent food when these wires operate the abs braking system? this practice not only puts a financial burden on the owner but also compromises their safety.

35 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/22/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph the contact depressed the brake pedal to the floor and struck a deer. After the accident the vehicles stability control, abs and 4wd warning indicators were intemittenly illuminated. The vehicle would no longer shift into 4wd. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that there was an internal failure in the abs actuator pump and a faulty speed sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Sw.
