36 Steering problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/03/2022

On November 3, 2022 I was driving in connecticut when I realized we had taken the wrong directions. We were following my son’s girlfriend’s iphone which kept changing the directions. When we ended up with an over pass in a parking area I applied my brakes but the brakes didn’t work. I was trying to go left to take an alternate road but couldn’t stop. This kind of thing where the brakes or steering have been happening on and off since we got the truck I believe someone has hacked into it using a car kit is what I found under devices but then it disappeared. It also changes my truck into towing mode which is another thing it does. This is done everyday. I noticed I have no history on my truck. This is because it can be put on and taken off randomly. I believe it is a family members doing this to me. We had a Nissan and they did it to that too. It totaled our new camper. I will have to get usaa to send me some copies of paperwork since someone keeps breaking into our apartment and stealing things including paperwork.

38 Steering problem of the 2015 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

Vehicle has a leaking steering rack seal that when leaking does not give a warning. Vehicle loses power steering. Needs to be replenished regularly. Started out small, and was unaware of the issue. Started topping off the power steering fluid at around 24k miles (under warranty). A clunk in the suspension was diagnosed as a bad shock (bad diagnosis). Took it in to have the rack looked at by Toyota, but they will not remedy this issue, even though there are hundreds of people on the internet with the same problem. I've never heard of a steering rack going bad before 100k miles, let alone before 30k.

39 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 10/06/2022

I have multiple problems with the dash lights going on and off , have taken it to car repair when scanned and had replaced relays many times. I have read many stories of people having the same problem with Toyota Tundras and no one can figure it out. Toyota should have a recall for this because it is not just one or two people with this same exact problem, it is many Toyota Tundra owners going through the same problems that I' am experiencing.

43 Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/06/2022

There is significant rust on the frame of this 2008 Tundra. I am located in north central wa state and they use compounds on the roads in the winter here similar to what is used in the northeast us. The rust is also on the steering mechanism and spare tire. I just had a flat tire and had to use the spare tire temporarily. This is a common problem reported on Tundra forums online and this truck should be covered under an ongoing repair mandate since the rust is damaging steering mechanism, brake lines, spare tire support system, etc. These are safety concerns.

44 Steering problem of the 2018 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/03/2022

I had the same issue as in recall 21th01. Had to have my rack and pinion replaced June 2022. Although my steering rack was not one of the "affected" units, I have seen another 2018 had to have its rack replaced one month before I had mine replaced. This is a major safety issue, if a steering rack goes bad, a complete loss of steering could occur, imagine going down a mountain when your steering rack gives out, serious injuries or death.

48 Steering problem of the 2017 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

Nhtsa recall no. 21e-103 I received a recall letter for my vehicle about a potentially defective power steering gear service and I called my local dealer about it and they said only if you put one in since August 5 2021 I said no but I think I have a steering problem sometimes while driving and they could look at my vehicle just to make sure it is ok. They said since it is no in this time frame that if you brought it in that I will have to pay for the inspection and will cost $150 dollars. I get a letter about my vehicle for a recall and they want me to pay for it even if it wasn't in this timeframe but I can be driving and maybe get killed if I have bad steering gear!!!!!!!!.

56 Steering problem of the 2019 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/17/2021

My son was driving to mineral wells to get something to eat on Wednesday 11/17/21 at 8:00 at night on fm 52 south. All of a sudden the steering wheel falls in his lap. He picked it up and shoved it onto the column and was able to steer the truck onto the side of the road without hitting anything. He looked underneath the steering wheel assembly and 2 of the 4 ubolts where missing. Where did they go - if they were ever there in the first place. The steering wheel has had some vibration and we have had the truck front end aligned and the wheels balanced. I had it in not long ago for an inspection/oil change/tire rotation. After I left the dealership the wheel felt a little loose and there was some vibration but I thought it was the road and it did stop vibrating. I also drive a prius and I thought maybe I'm just not used to the way the truck feels. I told my son when I got home that it felt loose and he said he would keep an eye on it. Then Wednesday night the steering wheel falls off and the whole column falls out. What is this? I also drive the truck and I do not think I would have had #1 - the strength to pick the wheel up and force it back onto the column or #2 - the sense to even do that. I would have had an accident. The shottenkirk dealership does not want to deal with the problem even though I have an extended warranty so today freeman Toyota calls me and they are picking up the truck and will be doing the repair work. Bottom line - my son could have been killed or injured, I drove the truck Monday in ft. Worth going 70+mph and I could have been killed or injured. How does a steering wheel/steering column loose ubolts and falls off/collapses?.

Failure Date: 10/07/2021

Horn siren is not being activated when pressed by center switch on steering wheel. After researching many Tundra message boards, this appears to be a frequent problem amongst Tundra owners. Incident: vehicle in front of me at drivethru backed into me when they thought they were in drive after repositioning themselves for mic. I was not able to beep my horn and warn them. Luckily no damage occurred.

59 Steering problem of the 2003 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/13/2021

I was turning down a residential street and when I was getting up to speed. About 30 miles per hour. My truck jumped up a couple times like I hit a pit hole. I got out to inspect and see what I hit but the street was freshly paved 2 years before it was smooth as butter. I look at the truck and find out my passenger tire had fallen off. Upon further inspection I see my ball joints failed and try tire came off. It snapped the cv axle in half ripped and the brake line and abs module off and broke the frame bracket for the rack and pinon. As a result my insurance totaled my vehicle out.

60 Steering problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 06/09/2021

On June 9th at about 2pm while driving through my neighborhood, my upper an lower ball joints on my 2002 Toyota Tundra separated from my vehicle causing a catastrophic loss of control of truck and tore my hub with tire from vehicle ripping the brake fuel line and shoving entire components up under my Tundra while losing control with no brakes or steering capability. It also destroyed the drivers side front tire. Needless to say if I was say. . . Going 55 to 60 miles per hour on highway. . . I would not be writing this. Had truck towed to checkered flag Toyota and they quoted me a price of over1300$ in repairs. . . They are fighting me on fixing my truck damages even though said damages were caused by the ball joint recall on the 2002 Tundra. . . Recall I d#05v.

61 Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/25/2021

I had the dealer take my truck in for the frame recall. I asked for them to replace the frame because I was not comfortable with how they were handling it. Per the service record they filled in perforations and “undercoated. I did not believe that filling in existing perforations was the safest way to handle this. After brining the truck to a shop to check the steering we were told that they wouldn’t even put it up on a lift. The steering issue was that the rack and pinion steering was literally falling out due to the rusted frame. We drove this vehicle home and parked it. About a week later the spare tire fell out right onto our driveway. Needless to say, I am certain there are many more Toyota trucks out there ready to fall apart on the road. We contacted Toyota corporate several times to try to rectify this mishandling of our recall. We called and sent certified letters. We asked to share the cost of a new frame and they said no. We then had the truck towed to a shop who could do the work. They ordered a frame from Toyota only to be contacted 2 months later saying that the frame was discontinued and they wouldn’t be sending it after all (we were willing to pay fir the frame and install because we had a useless and unsafe vehicle. We finally found a shop over an hour away who could rebuild/fabricate the frame and replace the fallen out steering etc. We had that truck towed about 60 miles away to have this work completed. This mishandling of the recall by Toyota and their lack of customer care cost me a whopping $17,000! again, unsafe Tundras out there for sure. Please advise…this is the 2nd time I’ve filled out this form and never heard anything. Thank you in advance. Dawn hiltz dphiltz@gmail. Com.

62 Steering problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

63 Steering problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

While driving on highway, felt a and heard a bump (no bumps in road) and lost most steering capabilities. After pulling to side of road. I noticed tires were pointed in different directions. After looking under the vehicle, I could see large rust holes in the frame and the rack was no longer connected to the frame. Toyota inspected the frame under recall in 2015 and said there were no problems and painted only the rear portion of the frame with an anti corrosion paint which has now also rusted away. I believe the frame should have been replaced under the original recall instead of covering with paint that did not do the job.

64 Steering problem of the 2014 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/18/2021

Gloss coating on steering wheel has cracked in multiple areas, handling of the vehicle has become uncomfortable. Most recent crack is about 2mm wide and goes all around the wooden gloss part of the steering wheel and I feel that if this continues my steering wheel will become unsafe to drive due to the unevenness and possibly cause some pieces to fall off my steering wheel.

65 Steering problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

67 Steering problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/02/2021

2007 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine, esc, and vsc warning indicators illuminated as I was entering the freeway then the vehicle started to lose power and would not accelerate more than 60mph, the truck went into a limp mode. I reset the ecm by disconnecting the battery but it came back. The approximate failure mileage was 71k. This issue is all over the internet and should be covered by emissions warranty. Called the dealer and it is not covered by federal emissions warranty after 10yrs. Not good!.

68 Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/18/2020

My vehicle frame has totally rotted out by rust.

69 Steering problem of the 2020 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/01/2020

I bought a 2020 Tundra in mid year of 2020. By December 2020 I started to notice a strong vibration in the steering and from the front end between the low speeds of 20-30 mph and between 60-70 mph. The hotter the vehicle gets the more vibration occurs. Now my alignment seems off and curves to the left when trying to drive straight. I have taken it in to alamo Toyota and red mccombs in san antonio on many occasions with similar problems but all they are doing is balancing and rotation of tires. I have sent the dealership videos of the vibration but they indicate it’s normal. This certainly does not appear normal and is now more of a safety issue. Not sure what else to do!.
