1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 11/10/2025

This report covers 2 events for the same problem. The first occurred in the spring of 2025 and I did not document the date or time. The second one occurred on November 10, 2025 @ about 10:15 a. M. (1) last spring my wife was driving the Venza up the street to our residence going a slow rate of speed. As she approached the house, she took her foot off on the gas and coasted toward the left curb so she could back into our driveway. At that point, car suddenly surged forward and accelerated toward the curb. My wife rapidly applied the brake and averted any problem. (2) the second event occurred on November 10, 2025 @ 10:15 a. M. My wife was starting to park at a parking lot in the tanasbourne town center. She was going to back into a parking spot so she drove forward going slightly left. Then, with the car still in drive, the car surged forward. She quickly stepped on the brake and the car stopped abruptly. (she was angling the car and was about ready to stop and put the car in reverse when this happened) again, with her quick response braking, she was able to avert hitting person or thing. As to which component or system failed, there appears to be a random malfunction of sensors or perhaps the cpu. . . Something that is calling for full throttle when the gas petal is not pushed. The safety risk is possible harm to the driver, outside property, or the worse situation would be harm to pedestrians that might be in the way of the car. We have not been able to reproduce the problem. The same maneuvers have been repeated 100's of times without incident. As of this writing, the vehicle is being taken to the Toyota dealer to have the oil changed and at that time they will be asked to do a thorough inspection of the systems that might cause this, check for any recorded malfunctions, etc. To the best of our knowledge, there were no warning lamps or messages that appeared.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 08/24/2025

While attempting to cross a busy street, I picked an opening in the coming traffic to cross, released the brake to allow the car to start rolling slowing, but when I pressed the accelerator , I got no response from the car and no acceleration at all for about 3 seconds. Leaving me and my family stuck in the middle of the street with oncoming traffic just seconds away from hitting us. In the 3 seconds span, I tried pressing the accelerator several times until the car finally responded. The car remained on the entire time. No errors or messages were displayed on any of the dashboards at any time. I have seen several similar stories in online forums with this model. Something is wrong and very dangerous.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 02/13/2025

We own a 2022 Toyota Venza hybrid and are having problems with it "lunging forward" when applying the brake. This has happened multiply times. The first is when I was pulling very slowly into the garage because the car just fits through the door having only inches to spare on either side of the side view mirrors. As I was lightly applying the brake, the car lunged forward, the word brake in bold red letters appeared on the dashboard (the forward collision warning) and the car jerked to a stop by itself avoiding hitting the back wall. It happened in a split second. No damage, no injuries. Not so the second time. On Feb 13, 2025, we were going to a local business. My husband was in the front passenger seat. We pulled into the parking lot and I turned right into the parking space. As I lightly applied the brake, the car violently lunged forward hitting the cement post supporting the building. "no forward collision warning light this time". There was a loud bang noise and both the driver, upper and lower and passenger airbags were deployed. The seatbelts jolted us back to our seats and locked up. There was smoke and a nasty smell (from the airbags). This all happened in a split second. I couldn't open the door, so I had to crawl over the console with help from my husband to get out of the car. I was taken to the er by ambulance to get x-rays of my chest which was badly bruised and my ankle which was also bruised. My husband escaped injuries but was in shock as well. Since this happened, we have done research on the internet and found numerous complaints and instances of this same thing happening to drivers when gently applying the brakes, particularly in Toyota hybrid vehicles. Many people narrowly escaping severe injuries and death in similar situations. I guess it has to take a few fatalities for Toyota to do something about it. What a shame! the insurance CO. Totaled the car. We won't be getting another Toyota.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 01/07/2025

Vehicle at operating temperature, running, in gear and at a stop. Making a left turn into traffic. I release the brake and apply the accelerator, the car rolls out into traffic but no power, I press more and more until it is 100% throttle, all the way to the floor. Then after about 5 seconds the vehicle moves forward. Complete loss of response/power for 5 seconds. Thankfully no traffic coming. This happens a second time with the same circumstances, different location. Press the accelerator, no response, sudden loss of all power, then after 5 seconds it responds. This time there is traffic coming to my driver's side at 50 mph, I was trying to press harder but it wouldn't respond. There were no warning lights, mil, sounds or messages. Toyota wants $169. 99/hr plus tax to investigate.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 Toyota Venza

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 02/04/2024

No acceleration from stop, sudden loss of power. I was stopped, coming out of a parking lot, getting ready to do a right turn onto a main road. I let go of the brake pedal, and when I applied pressure to the gas pedal, there was no acceleration, like the engine was stalled. The car crept forward slightly, but could not accelerate at any measurable speed. After about 3-4 seconds, it finally started accelerating as normal.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 01/29/2024

When driving in slowed traffic the car would not accelerate for 3-5 seconds. No warning lights appeared. I had slowed to 5mph and upon pressing the gas pedal the car had no response and put me in danger as all traffic around me accelerated and the Venza would not respond to gas pedal. I removed foot from pedal and tried again and after sustained gas pedal for 3 seconds the car slowly resumed movement.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 11/03/2023

On three separate occassions, when applying the gas pedal, the car did not immediately accelerate. One time I was pulling out across two lanes of traffic and the accelerator was to the floor and nothing happened for about 5 seconds. The last time happened today, 11/3/23, leaving a gas station entering traffic. I hit the gas pedal and it was 3/4 the way down before the car moved which, once again, could have caused a accident pulling out into traffic. I took the car into jones junction with the complaint and they could not find any issues after allegedly checking the fuel pump. Online other individuals are having the same problem.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 05/30/2023

On may 30, 2023 at approx. 11:30am I was leaving the car wash located at 2330 olympic hwy. N. Shelton washington. The automatic bar pushed me through the car wash to the end where it left you. There was a slight grade downwards to the highway (olympic hwy. N. ) I touched the gas peddle slightly and the car surged forward across the sb lane where a car traveling sb had to slam on its brakes to avoid a collision. My car continued across to the nb lane where it struck a vehicle in the drivers side rear quarter panel. I had slammed on the brakes but not quick enough to avoid the collision. The brake was slow to respond when I applied them. I'm thinking what may have happened as this is a gas electric hybrid that the gas engine kicked in instead of the battery when I gently applied the gas peddle which caused it to surge forward.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 05/23/2023

On numerous equations, when I press on the gas pedal the car does not react from either the hybrid battery or from the engine. I will depress the pedal and the car pauses for a few seconds before it moves forward. This has happened multiple times at different mileages but until this report, I did not think much of it since it was not in a near collision situation. On two occasions as I am pulling into traffic I will put my foot on the gas and since I get no reaction, the cars coming towards me have been very close to hitting me. One would have been a t bone incident where I would have been hit and another would have been a rear ended situation. Both times, the cars coming towards me had to brake rapidly. I have taken the issue to the dealer to examine. There have been no warning lamps and it does not happen consistently.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 05/14/2023

The engine is consuming oil at an alarming rate. Didn’t reach my normal 5000 miles for an oil change and the oil stick was bone dry. Its put me and my family at risk because its the main reason the car is driving. No it has not been reproduced. No. Yes there was a warning lamp almost a year ago when it first happened where the engine burned most of the oil leaving nothing in the engine.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

When accelerating from a stopped position, the car fails to go forward. This incident has occurred six times and often seems to be at the worst times, such as pulling into a busy road from a stop sign. The car will start to accelerate and stop with no response from the gas pedal for 3-5 seconds. There have almost been a couple of accidents with this vehicle because of this issue. No check engine light or any light at all came on in the car when this incident occurred. This vehicle has been taking to the dealership and the problem has been mentioned to them, however with no codes to read for the obdii they claim there is nothing they can do about it.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 02/22/2023

On multiple occasions, my 2022 Venza does not accelerate when hitting the gas pedal after coming to a complete stop. I can press the pedal all the way to the ground but it is delayed by 3-5 seconds and just idles slowly into the intersection. This is happening when turning onto streets where you need to accelerate quickly to avoid oncoming traffic on left turns, and to not get rear ended when making right turns. No dash lights come on, the safety system is not engaged, no warning lights. The Venza is less than a year old and has 7k miles. I’ve seen several threads online of this exact issue happening on other 2021+ Venzas. The local Toyota dealer will not inspect without a $175 fee even though it passed the last safety check fully, is under warranty and I’ve provided exact date/time stamps of when this occurs and have dash cam footage showing the conditions and delay in acceleration. Corporate Toyota is unresponsive to emails and calls as well. This is extremely dangerous and is going to cause an accident.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 07/16/2022

While driving, vehicle suddenly lost all engine and electrical power and steering locked up. Fortunately I was stopped at a light at the time. Car restarted after I shifted into park and started in normal manner.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 01/12/2022

Twice in the (almost a)year I’ve had the Venza I have gone to accelerate from a stop sign and the car started to go then the gas pedal went all the way to floor and nothing happened - then when I tried again the car accelerated as expected. The first time (@ approx 4000 miles) I was turning left with oncoming traffic (of semi truck plus others) coming and had it happened a few seconds later - I would have been in a serious accident. Second time was just over 10000 miles on 1/12/2021.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 01/09/2022

While steadily accelerating on a freeway onramp, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, surged and gained speed rapidly without my control. I took action by braking and slowing the vehicle to a safe freeway speed. Thankfully no one in my vehicle was hurt and no other vehicle was near during the incident. There were no warning messages. The first time I experienced this unintended acceleration was the first month when this brand new vehicle was purchased from a local Toyota dealer. I was turning into my driveway from a residential street , the car suddenly accelerated while I was in the middle of turn. I immediately/emergently stopped by stepping on the brake, I could have crashed into the power pole if I did not stop. Because this was a new car, I convinced myself I was unfamiliar with its controls. But since the second occurrence, I am greatly concerned about this random "unintended acceleration". The Toyota Venza had been dropped off at our local Toyota dealer for inspection and hopefully repair.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 08/17/2021

Oil hole to close to heat that was made out of rubber. New part purchase made out of metal.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 06/18/2021

The contact owns a 2021 Toyota Venza. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle failed to open or start. The contact was able to jumpstart the vehicle with some assistance and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that there was an error in the firmware of the vehicle that caused the vehicle to constantly communicate the status to the manufacturer leading to the battery failure. The dealer informed the contact that the failure was related to a TSB. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the owner needed to report the failure to the dealer for the TSB to be accessed. The approximate failure mileage was 5,500.

Failure Date: 01/04/2018

I currently drive a 2013 Venza, upon acceleration the transmission stutters. There is a recall for the Toyota camry with the same exact engine, but not on the Venza. I am also writing Toyota about this issue. It is just getting worse.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 11/23/2015

The first year of owning I noticed a mildew type odor coming through the vent system when I cut on the heat. I reported during service and was told the filter would be changed and some type of odor reducer placed in the ventilation system. It's winter again and the odor is so bad that I am getting car sick whenever the heat is on, whether driving or stationary. I searched the web and there are many instances of this issue with Toyota vehicles. Is there any recalls in place for this, I will be going to the dealer again and will follow up with this complaint. Based on other internet complaints, this may be mold build up.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 12/07/2014

I was sitting in the drive thru line of a fast food restaurant when the care took a sudden surge forward. I steered hard to keep from hitting the vehicle in front of me and manage to hit the bumper on right side doing over 1500 dollars in damage and swerved into another parked car doing damage to it also. The Venza had damage of more than six thousand dollars. The car has been repaired but I am afraid to drive it so it has been sitting in the carport since the day the repairs were finish. By the way that was the second incident of that kind in that car. There is something wrong with that car. Please investigate before someone is hurt or killed.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

I complained to a Toyota dealer about this problem in 6-2017. The took it for a road test and the car did not do it and it did not record a code. So they could not find a solution. Intermittently and without warning the electronic link between the gas pedal and the engine is inoperative for 3-5 seconds. During this period the car is not under power, it is coasting and depressing the gas pedal has no effect on the engine speed. After this period the electronic link is automatically restored and the engine is again responsive to pressure on the gas pedal. I have been dealing with this scenario ever since I purchased this car in 8-2013. It seems to be happening more frequently. Needless to say, it is a very dangerous situation. I no longer feel safe driving this car. .

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

The below issue was first reported to the appropriate Toyota representatives and to NHTSA in 9-2013. It has occurred 36 times since the car was purchased new in may 2013. 30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 09/06/2011

After taking vehicle into Toyota dealer for recall 90l, vehcile hesitated after accelerating from a stop. Vehicle engine hesitates, rpm drops to idle speed 1000-1200 rpm. Engine unresponsive for 1 to 2 seconds then resumes normal speed and performance. Occurs intermitently usually after initial startup and subsequent startups throughout the day. On rare occassions the hesitation occurs at drivng speed. Has happened every day at least once since 9-6-11. Toyota dealer can not replicate the problem or find any problem through diagnostic tests. Problem reoccurred 2 minutes after leaving dealer on this date. Problem did not exist prior to recall 90l being performed. It is a safety issue because it has occurred while pulling into traffic or entering an intersection.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Toyota Venza

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

I own a 2009 Toyota Venza with a knock in the engine. Twice the dealer has stated there was nothing wrong, thus nothing to fix- I find other complaints regarding "the piston slap" with dealer refusing to repair the vehicle and stated that the noise was normal. I do not find an engine knock normal!.
