I was driving below the 30mph speed limit along a city street and heard a loud grinding noise from rear right of the car. I immediately pulled over to the side of the street and saw that the back right rear corner of the car was down close to the wheel. The exhaust pipe was in its usual place. I called a towing company and they flatbedded me to Toyota in santa fe, nm at 5pm on a Saturday evening. When we arrived at Toyota the tow truck driver handed me the large spring which had fallen off the car. Toyota replaced the missing upper insulation disc and put the rear right spring back in place and I drove 5 hours home. The insulation disc could have fallen out onto the street and I did not know to look for it. The rear springs can easily be levered out of place with a screwdriver so my car mechanic attached the bottom of the spring to the cradle it sits on and welded a guard to the cradle so that the springs cannot jump out. I was fortunate to be driving slowly on a city street instead fast on the interstate when this happened. I have filed a report with Toyota so they can fix this, in my opinion, design flaw.
