6 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 03/26/2019

The drivers side front seat belt air bag sensor went bad. The vw dealership said the parts have been discontinued. This is a major safety hazard! there have been many complaints about this same issue I have seen, I can't believe that vw hasn't issued a recall on this by now! the air bags will not work in the event of an accident, this could lead to death! again there needs to be action taken and a recall issued before anyone gets seriously injured or killed! my seatbelt air bag light came on while I was driving causing me to pull over thinking that maybe the belt wasn't fastened all the way. The light wouldn't go out so I drove it to a garage where it sat until today still not fixed due to part being discontinued! again safety hazard as the air bags are non functional!.

9 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 08/29/2018

I have a 2005 vw Beetle convertible. I am having problems with my air bag light on my dashboard. The air bag light will not turn off. I took my car to the dealership and they said that the airbag control module was not working. I am not able to get my car inspected because the sensor light will not turn off! I looked up recall parts for my car, and I now see that there is a recall on the air bag: frontal: sensor / control module. The recall states that the soldier joint may crack under certain high temperature conditions, and that the air bag indicator light will illuminate and the fall back algorithm will ensure that the air bags deploy. Hopefully I will not need them and will not get into an accident. I want the dealer to replace this control module that was recalled, and fix my car so I can get it to pass inspection, and get back to driving it safely. 19 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/11/2016

I own a 2013 passat and my airbag light came on after my warranty expired a little over a year ago; only to be told by Volkswagen it would be my responsibility until I reached out to your office and my matter was investigated only to find that l as million other customers were also affected and a recall was initiated and my vehicle was included as a result. I received another email (enclosed) that informed me of another recall, but my 2007 new Beetle was not included although the airbag light is on as well . After speaking with vw; they were unable to confirm if my 2007 should be included because most of the complaints has been on either the 2007 jetta or the passat according to the vw rep. . There has been a complete cover-up by vw, and I believe all models has been affected and the takata airbag is in my 2007 as well and should be included as they are unable to definitively say that my car does not have that particular brand. I believe it does and should be a part of the current recall as well. The letter clearly says some 2007 models. I am very grateful that your office took such swift action with my first complaint which confirmed that my issue was not an isolated incident rather worldwide and a huge cover up on the part of ww. No one should ride around unsafe and I ask that you take my complaint into consideration by adding the new Beetle to the list as well. Enclosed is the letter sent from vw. Thank you :).

23 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/15/2015

I took my 2005 convertible Beetle to the service provider because my r headlight was out. They refused to work on it because it was a fire hazard. All the wires to the headlight were exposed. The protective part over the wires were brittle and appeared to have just rotted off. Each wire will need to be repaired before any one will work on it due to the hazard. I looked at the left headlight and someone had repaired the wires already on that side. Lots of electrical tape and wire nuts. I still have no r headlight. The airbag light has been on as well since I purchased the vehicle used last year. I own another Beetle. It is a 2000 and the airbag light has been on for several years as well. I have read about wiring problems with the airbags and feel that it is also a safety issue I felt that needed to be reported. Please feel free to contact me for further details.

24 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

Bought this vw Beetle used. Had terrible smell, like burnt crayons. Cleaned it intensely, inside and outside. Thorough detail job. Still smells, causing headache. Air bag light and buzzer stayed on even after latching seat belt. Cruise control works erratically, lunging forward suddenly, then chugs, then lunges forward quickly again. Speed works consistently when cruise control is not engaged. Very unsafe with cruise control in use. Lighting issues. Interior lights would not work, unable to see interior gauges in the dark. Turn signals blinking erratically, and not in sync. Took vehicle in for repairs at an authorized vw dealer, paid $1,300. 00. Still not working properly. Took it back in 4 days later because drivers side window almost fell out while driving, and interior lighting issues still did not work. Was charged another $600. 00. Vehicle will not engage into drive position easily, and sometimes not at all unless the steering wheel is jerked on. Dealer said sensors were the problem, and that I will need to bring it back again to have the cruise control fixed at a cost of $250. 00. I am scared to drive this vehicle now. There should be some recalls on the smell issue, and the air bag/seat belt issue. Also cruise control issue, because I have been told it is associated with the electrical problems.

28 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2004 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Driver's side seat belt wiring has failed thus illuminating the air bag light. The seat belt wiring is of minute diameter with little shielding and poor conduit. Because the seat belt must flex when moving the seat forward, the strain on the wiring in the seat belt rips the wiring from it's soldered joint. This causes the air bag light to illuminate and causes the air bag system to revert to a backup algorithm that puts the driver in a dangerous environment. This "backup" algorithm will not monitor vehicle speed and will automatically deploy the airbag at a default amount of force regardless of impact force. This means that a minor fender bender that reaches the airbag force threshold could deploy the airbag at a force too great and conversely a high speed impact may deploy the airbag with insufficient force. This is an extremely common problem on this model year vehicle. A quick internet search will alert you as to how common this problem is. After calling my local dealership, they told me "we replace a ton of those seatbelts. " Volkswagen should acknowledge this egregious manufacturing defect and recall this defective part before fatal consequences further prove this is a deadly and extremely common problem.

29 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

The front seat belt buckle becomes defective and sets an airbag code making the air bag light turn on and possibly not work. This is the third time I have had to replace the buckle on this vehicle in 187,000 miles. I have checked a number of vw club forums and have found this is a very common issue on these vehicles. I feel this is a safety issue that NHTSA should look into.

31 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

Air bag light illuminated for passenger seat (indicating that air bag not working and problem). Dealer states that the air bag module and seat belt buckle need to be replaced. The air bag module and seat belt buckle should not have to be replaced on a one owner vehicle with less than 50,000 miles.

32 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

The air bag light came on and when we took it to the Volkswagen dealership we were told that the air bag had failed and that it may or may not deploy during an accident, and that it could deploy without cause while driving. Called Volkswagen customer care number and was told that the recall had been addressed in 2008 with the vechicle and that it was not necessarly repaired "it was just addressed". I could not get any further response. I have never had or read about a car having to have airbags replaced as a scheduled service or maintance. Airbag failure showes that it was not done right to begain with. The car was purchaced with 34,000 miles and now has 60,111 miles. I am concerned about the airbag possiblity deploying while driving more than not deploying during a crash. Any help in understanding this matter is much appriciated.

33 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

The airbag light remains on the dashboard, mechanics have said they cannot fix it, makes me concerned there is an issue with the passenger airbag. Both the passenger window and the driver's side window regulators are both broken. The driver's side window will not go down when you press the window button, and the passenger door/ window rattles when driving and when you shut the door.

35 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

I own a 2002 vw Beetle, the air bag light came on,and took it to the dealership and they want to charge around $600. 00 dollars to get it fixed. I was doing some research on line about the airbag light coming on,and found out that alot of people who owned the same model year are having the same issue. I think this issue should be a recall since lots of other consumers are having exactly the same issue with the airbag like me.
