2014 vw clock spring failure affecting the driver-side air bag, horn, and cruise control. I would like to request the office of defects investigation (odi) of the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) to open an investigation of the volkswagon of America (vwa) recall of the 2014 vw Beetle concerning the failure of the driver air bag, horn, and cruise control. The current recall involves the clock spring which has been identified in vw models including: 2010-14 cc; 2010-13 eos; 2011-2014 golf; 2011-14 gti; 2012-14 jetta sportwagen; 2011-14 jetta sedan; 2010 passat and passat wagon; 2012-14 passat sedan, and 2011-14 tiguan. There is no recall for the 2014 vw Beetle, the only model not included in the vw models recall. My 2014 bettle turbo experience failure of the clock spring around 80,000 miles. There was no light on the dash indicating a failure of the air bag, horn, or cruise control. An attempt to use the cruise control and the horn were both found inoperative caused immediate concern. A check of the fuses indicated an accessory (12v accessory charging/cigarette lighter) needed replaced. The replaced fuse did not remedy the other safety issues. The vehicle was inspected by a vw dealer service department and found to have a defective clock spring and advised that replacement for the part would be $450+. Due to the age/mileage the part was not covered by the warranty. I was advised that there were no recalls on this item. My concern is that the driver-side air bag is inoperative and constitutes a NHTSA safety recall. . Read more...

The airbag sensor light came on while driving at 65mph. I took to the dealership where I purchased and they sent the car over to the vw dealership. Vw dealership contacted me and said that the driver side seatbelt, airbag igniter was defective and needed a driver side airbag unit to the tune of 881. 79. I have an extended warranty however nothing related to the airbag or safety is covered. Since this is a safety concern I wonder why vw doesn't stand by their products and warranty.
Sending my daughter to college in this cute little red bug. Every vw dealership and their brother, is aware of a driver side airbag defect in these cute little things. My dealer will repair the faulty wiring and belt buckle, as they did for the school teacher I bought this cute little thing from. What school teachers won't do is replace the faulty airbag in the side for six years because they think, "OH I am safe enough with a front airbag only!" and nobody wants to spend $700 for a little side airbag. But I think vw should recall the side airbag for putting in so many faulty side airbags as a whole bunch of cute school teachers and cute little freshman students like my little precious girl drive around these bugs with a smile on there face. And the cute light with a little man holding a beach ball in his lap!.

This is my second complaint to safercar. Gov and I haven't received any contact from anyone on this matter. All I want is for my air bag system to be fixed for free by vw in stockton CA. My airbag light is on for the fourth time in four years that I have had the 03 vw Beetle convertible and every time, vw has found that the sensor is at fault. Now this time, vw wants to charge me 678. 00 to fix it. There is no recall on this. It is 00003 control module defective. I am extremely angry that they will not fix this knowing that this is the fourth time that the air bag light came on. Vw knows that my airbag light comes on and they suppossably fix the sensors free of charge each time, but this time, they will not. They need to make a recall on this thing. Im sick and tired of having to have my car serviced over a light. Please help me.
2000 vw Beetle has had 3 airbags installed since 2002. The vehicle has never been in an accident. The airbag light is illuminated again and therefore will not pass the virginia state inspection process. . Three letters sent to vw with no success. Vw customer care representative will not look into the airbag system on the 2000 vw Beetle since the car is out of warranty. The first airbag issue started under warranty. The three airbags replaced to date has been 2 drivers and 1 passenger side airbag. The airbag light has been reset numerous times with no success without replacing an airbag.

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact noticed that the air bag sensor light illuminated on the instrument panel. The light remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was due to a loose electrical connector for the driver's side air bag. The recall repair was performed incorrectly. On three separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for the same failure, but with no resolutions. The contact was concerned of the safety risk involved with the air bag deployment. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 45,000.
Air bag on passenger side of 1998 Beetle activated. Side bag only. Neither front bags, nor driver's side. No collision with other car. Later examination showed damage to right wheel rim.
The vehicle was in a side collision and was impacted at 45 mph. None of the air bags deployed upon impact. Ph.
Driver's side side impact-airbag deployed for no reason as I was driving down a freeway. Volkswagen theorized that road debris penetrated the floorboard causing the sensor to go off. How thin is the floorboard that a rock or piece of road debris could penetrate it? and why does that throw off the sensor for a side airbag? Volkswagen refused to reimburse me for towing, repairs, or my arm injury.
Problems with front window mechanism.
Srs system failure light has illuminated for the third time in 16000 miles. Vehicle fault code was reset with the first failure. Side airbag was replaced with the second light illumination. System functioned properly for about 8000 miles and has failed again. Awaiting resolution from vw as the warranty has expired. One of my employees also purchased a 2002 jetta which had an srs failure in the first two months. There appears to be a design problem with Volkswagen's srs system which you may wish to investigate.

The contact owns a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact started the ignition and the "air bag " warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure was contributed to the passenger side wiring harness. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on eight separate occasions for the identical failures with replacement of the driver side wiring harness. There have been no resolutions. The failure mileage was 12,218. The current mileage was 47,564.

On Dec. 9th, 2000, our Beetle was hit in the drivers side and side airbags did not deploy. "experts" at Volkswagen claimed that our forward motion at the time of impact lessened the side impact. I can understand this to some degree but by their reasoning, if we were going twice as fast, would the damage have been halved? oy. The side was so caved-in that I had to be cut out of the car with the jaws of life. People who have seen the car , including the repair shop foreman, can not believe that the airbag did not deploy. On contacting vw, I was told that being that I was moving at the time of impact, it lessened the side impact. I can understand this to some exent, but does this mean that if we were doing 100mph instead of 50mph would the damage would have been halved?.
Consumer complaint is that the side air bag on his vehicle failed to deploy when another vehicle hit the drivers side at approximately 15 mph. Consumer was traveling forward at approximately 50 to 60 mph. A pick-up truck hit consumer's car broadside on driver's side, an engineer at vw claims stated that the forward motion of vehicle lessened the side impact enough that the air bag did not activate.
While traveling at 5 mph another vehicle ran into consumer's vehicle going at speed of 45 mph. Upon impact, driver's side air bag did not deploy. Manufacturer has been contacted.
While driivng at 50 mph a deer ran out in front of the vehicle, and the consumer avoided the deer and ran into a ditch. Then hit a tree on the left of the driver's door, and driver side/ passenger's side air bags didn't deploy. Consumer had the seat belt on and wasn't hurt.
Passenger's side airbag deployed without hitting anything, causing consumer to hit another vehicle. Driver's side airbag did mnot deploy after hitting vehicle. Please add VIN.
Was driving 10 mph when another vehicle ran red light, the other vehicle hit the consumers vehicle on the drivers side, the drivers side air bag did not deploy resulting in inkury to the driver. Nlm.
While driving 40mph the car hit gravel/ spet off the side of road, and caused passenger's side to hit a tree. Neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. Vehicle has been declared totaled.
