6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

I've had my Beetle since 2005, and the airbag lights continuously come on as well as issues with the transmission. I've taken it to vw once for repair, and they come back on months later. I've read similar complaints from other vw owners concerning the airbag and transmission. I can't understand why this isn't a recall issue particularly since there was a death in 2007 with another owner. The airbag will not deploy when the light is on. The web page below voices the frustrations of many owners, and I do not understand why these complaints aren't being taken seriously. The repairs cost over $1600. How is this fair when having to get it repaired every year? are you protecting vw? trying to find someone to clear the codes is difficult because they have to go under the seat to adjust wires and using the computer to clear them, but they come back on a day or two later. . 7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 03/08/2011

I own a 2006 vw new Beetle convertible. The air bag warning light started to light intermittently and now it always remains lit. I have taken it into my vw dealership a few times for this issue. At first, they were able to reset the code and the air bag light went out. However, the last time I went in they were unable to reset the light. To correct the problem, the vw dealership says that I need to pay them a signifiicant amount of money to troubleshoot and correct the problem. I have never before had a problem with any air bag warning lights on any of my other vehicles. I believe that this is a definite safety issue that is caused by the unreliability of vw's design implementation of their air bag safety system. People should be able to have high confidence that their safety systems will be utra reliability throughout the life of the car and should not have to expect to pay additional for that assurance. My daughter was just in a minor rear end collision. The air bags did not deploy either because the collision was insufficient to set off the air bag system or because the air bag sensor light was on. Thankfully, my daughter was no seriously injured.

8 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

Vw dealer advises that airbag light indicates airbags are disabled and caused by a malfunction in the seatbelt latch assembly costing $386 to repair. Vw dealer says this happens a lot. Vw dealer said that airbags would not have deployed. Vw dealer said that wiring inside the latch "just breaks" eventually. Failure of safety equipment should be an automatic recall and manufacturers should be required to repair defects at their costs and not cost to the consumer.

9 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph the air bag light stayed on. The contact stated that the air bag light came on after driving over a speed bump and if the vehicle was involved in a crash the air bags would not deploy. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer but refused to have a diagnostic test performed due to the cost. The contact stated that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The failure mileage was 60,000.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

1. My airbag light in my car came on. 2. I took it to a repair shop that found the seatbelt sensor had gone bad thus causing the airbag light to come on and the airbags would not deploy in the case of an accident. 3. The seatbelt was replaced so that the sensor would again be working correctly and the airbags would be deployed in the case of an accident. As the seatbelt mechanism was working fine, but just a tiny sensor on the seatbelt arm went bad, it caused my airbags to be deactivated. There should be a lifetime warranty on such safety parts such that there is never a failure to deploy airbags or an issue with seatbelts. The auto repair employees said they have replaced hundreds of these seatbelts in vws for the very same reason I had.

12 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

For no apparent reason the airbag warning light in my daughter's 2002 new Beetle lit up. After a costly ($315) diagnosis and repair it was discovered that there was resistance in the seat buckle. When I scheduled the diagnosis, the service desk person predicted that was the problem. That indicates that this is a common defect. She also said the airbags will not deploy if the light is on. Which in its self is cause for concern .

13 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 02/07/2008

The driver's side air bags did not deploy as they should have in a head on car accident. Someone hit my car in the right rear end and I lost control of the car and it careened head first into a tree. Before the car was hit it was going about 30 - 35 mph but after it was hit it went faster, I can't say how much (I estimated above). I was the driver and only occupant. The car was totaled but the air bags did not deploy as they should have. I got whiplash (real whiplash) and injured my hip as it broke the arm rest. The VIN number I provided is for this car that was totaled - it's no longer on the street.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/21/2007

I have had to replace all four power window regulators. I am now having to replace one of the replacements. This vehicle only has 83000 miles on it. The parts to repair this window are extremely expensive - over $500. I've already invested well over $1500 replacing the regulators already. Volkswagen is making defective parts and will not stand behind their product. I filed a complaint earlier on this vehicle for a defective airbag. This car has not been abused. I've taken good care of it. The airbag was never deployed or damaged in any way. If the airbag is defective it is because vw puts defective airbags in their vehicles.
