The ignition failed to release the key and turn off the engine. According to the service writer at new century Volkswagen in glendale, CA, this is a known problem with older model Volkswagens. The part which will fix the ignition, is back-ordered for six months, leaving many vehicles in a dangerous state. I have written to. Volkswagen of America customer service but no solution or resolution was provided.

I've owned this car for nearly two years. On April 3, 2025, I took my car to niello vw. A service person told me he'd just had a vw Beetle with the same problem, just the passenger's side. Since there was nothing jamming the glide rails, there was no reason for the seat to be stuck. I took the car to a car upholstery shop because they specialize in removing car seats. The person had a hard time removing my seat, but he did. He said one of metal teeth like glides or steel buttons was broke. There are three on each side of the car seat. It was only on the right side of the driver's seat. The driver's seat is stuck and unable to be adjusted to the driver's leg length. There was nothing jammed in the lock that caused this to be stuck. I have owned 4 vw Beetles and I've never had a problem like this. It's very expensive about $1000 to repair. Mine is 2018 vw Beetle. I should not have a problem like this. I am reporting this because other vw Beetle owners have had to same problem. I did have the air bags repaired a recall.
Hi, one time the car wheel turned extra and the gas went extra fast. I also had several devices on my car through blue tooth that were not mine and mirror link kept checking and aux. This is conjunction with 3 years of hacking (that I think is technically-assisted abuse) with Smart home hub, surveillance, spyware on phone and hacked emails. Tried filling out ic3. Gov form to no avail. Took car twice to volkswagan dealer in springfield, PA and paid $100 twice to clear the dashboard but it kept happening with roav-fr3 and something fm-forman (cant recall names) and keyless car detective. Then I paid to remove the car radio. Then I found a navaro device on passenger side under seat but dealer refused to remove it and when I called Volkswagen from there they said only the dealer knows where the vehicle embedded sim is. They do not know how to check software and say 'it is uncharted territory. ' I do not feel safe. There are no laws regarding car hacking and Smart home abuse and I am now writing a book for women about it so they are not gas lighted and can get help. This can be a deadly mistake and there needs to be an easy inexpensive place for someone to have their car checked for malware, sim or sd card. Please help. There was a police report but I do not have it. It was on 10/20/24 with colonial chris mcwilliams state police middletown, PA 19063. He said navaro device was factory installed but volkswagan said it was not. Mechanic said it was a satellite radio device.

A message is continually (every few seconds) displayed on the dashboard stating that the "coolant temperature is 195 degrees" as if it is a warning. It does not seem plausible that the coolant would have reached 195 degrees when the vehicle was just started.

I was driving down the road an the car started accelerating all by it's self so I pulled over but every time I let off the break it acted like I had the gas to the floor. The O2 sensor wire's shorted and burnt up the ecm making the cpu light to come on.
I was driving with my child sitting in the passenger seat and we had the heated seats turned on the setting of 2. After a few minutes she yelled out “my butt is on fire!” she sat up off the seat to reveal a large black charred burnt hole in the leather seat!.

After getting in my car and turning on the ignition, I put my foot on the brake. After pulling the gear shift out of park and as I am taking my foot off the brake pedal, sometimes the car would jump a little as if has a glitch in the shifting from park to the next gear.

Had the takata air bag recall completed at vw dealership in cc, TX. Shortly after the air bag kept giving errors and then it would include low air pressure, abs and anti skid warnings. . Contacted the dealership, had the system check with no issues. . Had the system checked locally at repair shop with no issues. . Went to leave and air bag warning stated error,, they rechecked and found no issues. . Computer showed no errors. . I was informed that apparently the only issue is "possibly" the air bag needs to be replaced again but the dealership refuses to without a recall requests.
While driving on the interstate my 2013 vw Beetle showed a stability malfunction warning then lost power and would not accelerate. I coasted to the shoulder and shut the vehicle off. It crank back up and I drove it home. Two months ago, I had the same issue with the vehicle losing power after the engine light illuminated several times before I could get the car into the vw dealership for repair. After a costly emmission valve and hose replacement the engine light didn’t come back on and the care hasn’t lost power until yesterday. My safety was at risk due to a lack of power and had not been able to coast to the shoulder safely, I could have been plowed into the rear of my car by a semi that was fast approaching. This is a vehicle that I purchased for my teenaged daughter and I shudder to think of an inexperienced driver in this situation. I have read lots of post from others who have had this problem with vw. Taking the car back to the dealership tomorrow and praying that I won’t be told that the lose of power is a safety feature that vw has like I was told previously. Safety feature is suppose to prevent an accident not put drivers in a sitution that is potentially fatal.
Got a notice in the mail from: auto airbag settlement, settlement administrator, p. O. Box 5650 portland, or 97208-5650, and now worried that my car is unsafe to drive.
My 2019 vw Beetle, at, keyless entry was parked in a store parking lot. When I left the vehicle it wouldn't lock. I thought my fob battery died. I came out of the store about 30 minutes later and my car had rolled away. It came to rest about 50 feet away, up against a fixed object light pole. I was shocked! my rear bumper sustained damage. I got in my car and saw it was in d. I guess I left it in d, turned off the push button start/stop and it rolled away after I left it. I then did some checking and found that when push button start/stop tech is installed in many cars with the added safety features of audible sounds or transmissions ratcheting into park when stopped with transmission in drive, which are standard safety features on most newer cars, but were not standard on my car. The car did not alert me to anything being wrong. This is a safety hazard. I noted that vw recalled their keyed entry Beetles for rollaway risks, but did not include key-less entry vehicles. A call to vw ensued and a case number was assigned, #04874410. Regional personnel cathy was coordinating the case which she said caused an internal report to be filed. On sept 3 at approximately noon, she called me to say that the accident was my fault, for parking incorrectly, vw would not pay to have my rear bumper fixed, nor would they take any responsibility. This rollaway risk could have been deadly, it could have been worse. I would hate to see someone killed for being in similar circumstances. Vw is negligent in their response, these cars should be recalled for being a safety hazard to the general public. I am deeply concerned with the nonchalant attitude of vw. My husband's Lincoln ratchets into park when he stops the car using the button if left in drive. Ford does the same thing. Nissan makes an audible noise alerting the driver to something being amiss. Vw is not even on the ballpark on this, what a shame!.
Key was unable to move to turn engine off, and was stuck in ignition of my 2015 vw Beetle with under 60,000 miles on odometer. I sat in a parking lot for 15-20 minutes googling recommendations about how to turn off my car! I am scheduled 7/27/21 at cochran vw for an assessment of this issue. I have read online that there are numerous complaints of this issue and for many years now. There is currently a warranty extension for the steering lock assembly, but I am not sure that this will cover my issue. If this is a continuous issue over many years, how has there not been a recall? thank goodness for google and the numerous complaints about this issue (with numerous suggestions to shut engine off), or I’d still be in the parking lot at the grocery store. Sorry, I don’t have photos or documentation of my endlessly running car. I’ll have more information after the vw dealership diagnostics.
I am having issues turning the key in the ignition and was informed, by mattie imports, that this is very common with the Beetles and it really should be a recall item, however, it's not (as of yet anyway). This could be a definite safety concern in that it could leave me stranded if not repaired. It is a malfunctioning part and should be covered under the recall provision. Thank you for your consideration.
2nd Beetle. Same issue. (first one leaked fluid). This one does not leak but has the same horrible shifting issue! I love my car but hear from all the mechanics that this is the norm with these vehicles. So why is it not recalled????? is it transmission or something else? 2007 automatic transmission. It has 91,000 miles on it. When the car transmission is cold it shifts ok most of the time. But when the transmission has warmed up its a given to jerk and hesitate. Specially when it shift from 1st to 2nd gear I feel a hitting noise. Also facing the same problem when it down shifts but not always. Embarrassing really! sometimes it shifts hard in higher gear on highway or seems to miss and rpm goes up and it hesitates to shift. It finally does while I am holding my breath and pray it does not stall while I am turning or in the intersection or on the highway. It really is a safety issue! I love my little car though. . . Gurrrrrrrrr. . So mad. What could be the issue? how could I fix this problem without having to put on a lift to always check transmission fluid. I want to keep the car, its a shame because its in great condition. Triple white convertible and no wear. Am I looking at 3k for a new trans? so I am to give up and sell it to some other poor soul (sucker). That's awful. There is a graveyard full of your cars in the junk yards for parts. . Sickening and sad!.

2 recalls are on my bug first one says the air bag inflator may explode. Causing injury or death. I called vw they said it is safe to drive. And that there is no fix for it. I called them and I told them I can't sell my car like that, and they won't buy it back,or provide a rental until they come up with a fix. Is this car safe to drive with my grand kids or not and what do I do. . I have let the car sit until I here from someone.
Key stuck in ignition, can't turn the engine off.
At ~50k miles the front driver's side window regulator stopped working. Determined it was the cable starting to shed strands that would bind the motor. Replaced cables and trimmed out regulator which took me a weekend to complete the job. Now at ~63k miles the driver side rear window regulator is stuck half way closed and assuming it's the same issue with a poor designed cable system that routinely fails. Very annoying with cable systems not only used for the window regulators but for the retractable convertible top and door latches. Needs to be recalled immediately.

While the car was in motion the steering locked up, preventing any kind of turning of the steering wheel, causing a catosrophic crash injuring the driver on a city street.
Trying to turn off the motor but key will not turn, it will move forward as if you are starting it but not to remove the key. The car was in park and I jiggles the steering column and gear lever and even the key switch but nothing would release the key and turn the motor off.
Passenger window regulator went bad. Not covered under warranty now. Had driver side replaced last year and warranty covered it. 1500 miles over warranty now.
This car has 2000 miles on it and vw only offered $ 4700. 00 to purchase the car back , they say they want to only pay the trade in value and this is not fair , I did not cause this recall.
Massive problem with the 09g automatic transmission. Both the valve body and the actual transmission suffers from poor design which over time leads to hard shifts through gears. Especially prominent when upshifting from 1 - 2 & 3. Downshifting from 4 to 3 - 1 is also similarly effected. It happens under all conditions. Hot, cold, dry, wet, all the same "jerking"/shudder motion. Volkswagen should extend the warranty for the 09g transmissions for the mk4 platform (beetle 2006 - 2010) and honor their work.
Nhtsa: 19v615 November 11, 2019, I made an appointment to get this recall 37m2-micro switch on my 2017 vw Beetle, when I arrived, I was told they did not have the parts to fix this recall. I am trying to sell my car and it is not prudent to try to sell a vehicle with an open recall on it. I was first notified of this recall in August 2019 and we are now in November 2019 and according to what I am told there is still no fix for this recall. My question is what is the hold up? are you waiting for someone to have a serious accident because if you are, there will certainly be lawsuits against vw for negligence? I don't understand how you can send out a recall and 3 months later still not have the dealerships have what they need to get this repaired. You are definitely leaving yourselves open for some serious problems, so may I suggest that you get this situation taken care of ASAP. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter!.
I received a recall notice in November of 2019 on my 2016 vw Beetle involving a build up of silicate on the shift lever micro switch. I purchased the car from tony Volkswagen on oahu island in hawaii. I live on the island of kauai in hawaii, where there is no Volkswagen dealer and no certified Volkswagen repair technician. For a previous recall, the dealership had the car shipped back to oahu to take care of the recall issue. I contactedtony Volkswagen service manager damen dupree in November 2019 regarding this current recall and at the time he said that because this recall involved such a small replacement part, it would be more cost effective for them to send a technician over to kauai instead of paying to have the vehicle shipped to oahu. I understand that the pandemic has turned the world upside down since March, but I began this process way before that was an issue. There is currently a 14 day quarantine fro travelers from oahu to the other hawaiian islands, so I understand that it no longer makes sense to send someone over from oahu to take care of this recall issue. It seems as if they simply are trying to avoid the cost of shipping my vehicle over to oahu to check out the recall issue. I have called mr. Dupree at least 10 times trying to get this issue resolved, and have never received a return call from him since our first conversation back in November, 10 months ago. So far, I have not experienced the possible problems that the recall is concerned about, but I want to know my car is safe and could not result in a crash that could injure people and damage property, as stated in the letter I received. I need to know my car is compliant with regulatory requirements and appreciate any assistance you can give me regarding getting this recall issue resolved.
The window keeps shuttering up & down after getting in the car and shutting the door with ignition on. . The window doesn't close all the way, and the auto door lock doesn't work. The window shutters up & down all on its own. Brought car to dealership they replaced the door lock. This still did not fix the problem. I have a video showing the issue after the door lock was replaced.
I got a bunch of calls and many notices regarding an airbag recall, but I was never made aware of the shift lever recall. I parked my vehicle on my street and it rolled away from me and crashed into my neighbors car. It was not until after I paid out of my own pocket to have it repaired that I was told it was a recall. Vw has failed in notifying me of this and someone could have been seriously injured or even killed.
The right front tire exploded while driving straight ahead at 40 mph. Hankook tires. Nothing was struck and the tires had no previous damage. Smooth city street.
When driving the car shuts off in traffic in town and on the highway. 2 times no check engine light came on. One time light came on. Mechanic is not sure why. I have read several similar occurances online by other owners. Sounds like a risk for fatality to me. My daughter just bought this car from another party.

The timing tensioner broke causing damage to the engine. Volkswagen paid for timing and 60% of engine work. Shortly after I noticed I needed to add oil and right after an oil change the oil would be low. Meanwhile the oil light never came on. Now Volkswagen dealership says the pvc is bad and when questioned about it they claim they never touched the pvc. I find that hard to believe since they replaced the upper part of my engine. The engine was fixed December of 2018. I just took it to the dealership today. May 28, 2019.
The ignition locks and presents a major problem. It becomes impossible to remove the key. Also the locks randomly go on and off as I am driving.

Vehicle horn does not work. Intermittently works. When horn does not work you can here the relay clicking when horn is pressed but no sound. Send that horn is not receiving current. This is a safety concern, for example I was unable to alert vehicle in front of me that was reversing that was unable to see me. We were in a parking structure waiting for a parking spot. The vehicle in front of me found a parking but required to reverse to pull in to designated stall. The large vehicle could not see my small Beetle and reversed into me. I honked the gotten but horn would not honk. I was quick enough to set my vehicle in reverse and avoid any damage. After reviewing similar issues with other 2016 vw Beetles, this is not an isolated case.
