Door lock have quit working properly, what make me think this might be a bigger problem than the 600$ I have had to pay separately for each door is an experience I had last week. . . Upon entering the vehicle and closing the door, my battery died, and I was unable to exit the vehicle, as the Beetle requires the window to lower approx. 1 inch for the door to open. I do not know if these 2 problems are connected, but having anything wrong with door locks should be a safety hazard that is fixed by the company. The doors are supposed to lock upon acceleration, with the double clicking I have experienced, I'm actually not sure if they are. I have a video that I could send, but it is not attachable to this form (. Mov)I have attached the customer (don't) care messages from vw. I have decided to fie this complaint because the passenger door first went out a year or so ago and I paid for that one and now the drivers door has failed.
2014 vw clock spring failure affecting the driver-side air bag, horn, and cruise control. I would like to request the office of defects investigation (odi) of the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) to open an investigation of the volkswagon of America (vwa) recall of the 2014 vw Beetle concerning the failure of the driver air bag, horn, and cruise control. The current recall involves the clock spring which has been identified in vw models including: 2010-14 cc; 2010-13 eos; 2011-2014 golf; 2011-14 gti; 2012-14 jetta sportwagen; 2011-14 jetta sedan; 2010 passat and passat wagon; 2012-14 passat sedan, and 2011-14 tiguan. There is no recall for the 2014 vw Beetle, the only model not included in the vw models recall. My 2014 bettle turbo experience failure of the clock spring around 80,000 miles. There was no light on the dash indicating a failure of the air bag, horn, or cruise control. An attempt to use the cruise control and the horn were both found inoperative caused immediate concern. A check of the fuses indicated an accessory (12v accessory charging/cigarette lighter) needed replaced. The replaced fuse did not remedy the other safety issues. The vehicle was inspected by a vw dealer service department and found to have a defective clock spring and advised that replacement for the part would be $450+. Due to the age/mileage the part was not covered by the warranty. I was advised that there were no recalls on this item. My concern is that the driver-side air bag is inoperative and constitutes a NHTSA safety recall. . Read more...

I bought my vw Beetle 2004 used 3 months ago. (epc light on, check engine light on) since then ive had to fix the timing belt, cooling, and hoses because of backfire. I got notified that there is a recall in my car, yet went typing the VIN # it says it no recalls have been found for my car. I have documentation to show the repairs and costs. I'm wondering who do I contact to determinate if my car does have a real or not.

Vw Beetle (2013) would not turn off as the key was stuck in ignition while the car was running! stopped at gas station to fill up and when I tried to remove key, would not come out. Had experience problem the day before but thought using a different key would help but it didn't--same problem. Have experienced frequent problems with key in ignition since purchasing Beetle. Drove car to two mechanics and they could not get car out of ignition so drove home to be in familiar environment and called roadside assistance and they were unable to get key out of ignition and could not get car engine to turn off. Received help from multiple people but still couldn't get key out of ignition and car to turn off--4 hours later, finally mechanic provided instruction to disconnect battery, fuse pump, and fuse box while car was running--which helped to turn the car off; however, it also leaves car susceptible to other issues. I also had to leave my car in open parking spot--with the key in it--leaving it at risk of being stolen!.

Having major transmission issues after trying to fix and replace everything like fluid and filters. Has a hard time changing gears. Engine will rev while changing gears sometimes. Hiccups and jolts a lot especially when going from 2nd to 3 then to 4th. And when going down in gears.
While driving 60 mph on route 84-mass pike(which is a freshly paved road) I noticed something go wrong with the back tires causing the vehicle to spin out of control. Luckily, after doing a full 360 I was able to gain control of the car and pulled over. I had to the car towed to a service center in which they told me I had broke the tie rod when I went out of control. The reason I went out of control in the first place was due to a faulty tie rod that had broken for absolutely no reason. The weather that day was 50 degrees and had been 57 the day before meaning absolutely no black ice. The roads were freshly paved so there were no pot holes. I was charged $875. 00 to fix the car in order to get it home to my father whom the car belongs to. I am concerned for anyone if the future that may experience this and hope this never happens again. I feel that this is grounds to take legal action. Until then I would like to be compensated for the faulty equipment on this fairly new car.

The horn does not work, I have had the fuses checked and all the fuses are good. This is a safety issue as you need your horn to alert other bad drivers on the road. I know others that have the same car have the same issue,.
The rear window of the convertible top has come unglued. After checking online sources, I have found this has happened on other cars. It can cause the entire rear window blow out if all of the adhesive gives way.
Electrical motor running noise in rear area of vehicle after engine shutdown and key removal. Occurs every time vehicle is driven in rain conditions--regardless of severity of rain. The noise remains for up tp 15 minutes after shutdown and key removal and occurs only in wet conditions. First time there was an acrid odor at the time of the noise -- appears to have ceased subsequently but the "running" noise remains. Only when driven in the rain. Vehicle appears to be normal in all aspects when driving in dry conditions. Have had authorized vw dealer inspect with no results. It is important to note, regardless, that this occurs every time it rains. The only motor I can think of in the rear area is the fuel pump and have no idea why this occurs. Situation has been with the car since original purchase in October 2017.

I have a 2006 Volkswagen Beetle convertible that I bought about a year ago. The Beetle is in excellent condition and has extremely low miles. It has been well taken care of to say the least. However, I have noticed a very strong odor that smells like crayons. The odor is so strong that my hair, clothes and skin smells like this scent. I have a special needs child and he coughs and sneezes the whole time while riding. Not to mention both of us get horrific headaches and our eyes water from the odor. I have no idea if this crayon smell is toxic or what fumes we are breathing in but it cannot be good from the side effects we are having from it. I have tried to sell it but no one will buy it because of the strong odor it has. I have had it professional cleaned, changed the cabin air filter etc and the smell is still there.
The drivers window does not work. They are using inferior parts that are known to break. Also the transmission is slipping out of gear while driving and the trunk will not work using the remote.

Three out of four windows will not work. This is a convertible.
All of a sudden you are driving the car and it stalls, you try to accelerate it and it doesn't move and turns off in the middle of the highway. Big safety concern. It has happened several times and has been to the vw dealer service department 4 times already at kuhn's in florida. All service records are at this dealer. Still the problem hasn't been fixed.

Window regulators are easy to break.
Car was illegally repossessed (I own the vehicle but used it as collateral in a small loan) November 29, 2016 while I was in another state. I then received a email from carfax that the odometer was changed and gave me the new mileage. I purchased the car in March of 2015 and the mileage was over 155,000 miles but now it reports 124, 685 miles which is not an error but intentional and obvious odometer fraud! I have attached several photos showing the dealership website's log of mileage when I bought it, the picture of my odometer as of October 2015 (when it was no longer able to drive due to oil leak from valve cover), and the email screenshot from carfax showing the odometer fraud. The new owners of the vehicle are peter landry of for financial in donaldsonville, louisiana 225 473 7652.

Coolant system can not be fixed. When driving, sometimes the coolant will be boiling. Sometimes the coolant level is low lead the coolant system light on. When add more coolant to the water tank, after several miles driving, the coolant level will be higher than normal. It runs well then the coolant system/overheating light will be on. Keep driving then the light will be off. Then it will be off. Mechanics tried to clean and replace the whole coolant system. But the overheating issue happened again and again. Then after they tried four times, I was told that I need to get rid of the car cause they cannot fix it. And they knew other people's vw new Beetle(2000) has the same issue. Seems like not only my Beetle bug's problem.
Its a recall of the water pump and I'm having issues with my cooling ,my car is running hot have had everything done except the water pump and still running hot just found out that its a recall on the water pump if there is other recall can it be done also.
Transmission problems jerking and also stalls on highways almost getting killed.
Vehicle lost power while driving on highway. I pulled over and tried to restart it. After a minute it restarted. The vw dealer ran diagnostics and found no problems. Had I not been able to pull over on this busy highway, it might have caused a serious accident.
I have a 2008 vw Beetle that has less than 40,000 miles on it. It will not pass smog; something about codes needing to be reset. I have taken the car to a highly rated repair shop and he spent hours talking to vw and bar. I picked up the car and called a vw dealership and spoke to a service rep. He told me just to driven the car and it will reset itself. Not true.
Safety recall 23r1 was received yet vw and local dealership will not make repairs stating that their needs to be an investigation and/or I need to wait until I have issues. The notice states that it can "lead to a crash without warning". However, they insist that I continue to drive my car they have determined to be unsafe. The dealer says they have no knowledge of the recall and vw refuses to send parts to my local shop to have it fixed stating again that I need to wait until I have an issue. We have spent hours on the phone trying to get this resolved and vw continues to brush us off and telling us they will resolve it tomorrow. I drive 200-500 miles a day for work around the state and do not feel safe driving my car that could unknowingly crash at any moment. If this was not a safety concern, vw would not have issued a safety recall. Per their documents sent to national highway traffic safety administration: the camshaft lobe that can break off drives the brake vacuum pump, and if the problem occurs drivers would lose power assistance and suffer reduced engine performance.
The interior smells strongly of crayons and will not go away with shampooing, cleaning and/or other methods of odor removal. The odor is very strong and rubs off on clothing and skin whilst seated.

Front door latch fail. Door will not lock or acknowledge door is shut. May open while driving.
The left rear driver side window will not raise or lower. I can hear the motor running and the regulator moving but no window movement. Vehicle was stationary when the problem began.
The rear view camera is almost completely dark when reversing, making is almost useless in seeing and avoiding anything behind you. Vw dealer refuses to replace, saying that's how it is supposed to be. A bad safety flaw.
Transmission slips, jerks , downshifts , vehicle becomes disabled on roadway, danger to driver, pedestrians and other vehicles on the roadways. There is a class action suit in louisiana regarding this problem . This problem happens while vehicle is in motion 10-15 minutes after it is in motion .
Purchased a 2015 vw bettle for my daughter. One requirement we had was a backup camera. Test drove car in a storm and took it home same day. Thought camera was dark due to the weather. We were wrong. Picture quality is very poor. Screen is dark. Brightness can not be adjusted. This is a major safety issue. Why have a camera on a vehicle that is so poor? spoke to dealership who mentioned brightness can not be adjusted and to someone on vw chat who mentioned same thing. Definitely a rip off and safety issue. Vw should replace these cameras with ones that work. Other complaints on this site about same issue.
Rear right side window regulator malfunction.
Vehicle dies while driving. Has happened on countless occasions while driving straight, turning, stopped at light, etc. No warning. Engine completely shuts off. Major safety hazard as this has happened while turning left into oncoming traffic and while traveling down a road at 50 mph with other vehicles doing the same speed behind me. Started about 1 year ago and have been to the dealership multiple times trying to fix. So far they have tried a computer reset and replacing the crankshaft sensor, neither have worked. Car is currently back in the dealership for the second time in a week for the same problem.
