06 vw Beetle headlights have gone out so many times and the cost to repair each time is around $100. After each repair it could be a day a week or two before the headlight goes out again. I have been told by 2 different dealerships that it is a design flaw. I now drive with the high beams so that I am visible at night.

I own a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle that I bought new. Last year one of the lens covers on the headlight fell off. I had to replace the whole headlight assembly due to the part falling off as I was driving. I replaced it through ebay. A couple of weeks ago the other factory headlight lens cover fell off . It seemed the sealant that was being used was drying out, causing the lens to come loose and fall off the assembly. Last week, the headlight , that I replaced through ebay, also fell apart, with the lens cover coming off. If I go through the dealership to replace the lens covers it would be in excess of $ 250. 00 a piece for them. I am now looking at having to replace two of them at a cost of more than $500. 00. This to me seemed to be a factory defect as it kept happening.

The contact owns a 2005 Volkswagen Beetle. The contact stated that the xenon lights would turn off and on at any time. The contact was in an accident in December 2006 because the lights turned off suddenly and caused the contact to run into a curb. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the lights were replaced. However, the failure still occurred and the contact could not drive safely at nights. The lights would reset after the vehicle was turned off and restarted. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000. The current mileage was approximately 64,500.

Purchased 2005 vw Beetle with 7,300 miles assured full warranty. . . . Guaranteed paint on front bumper would be corrected. . . Did it twice still peeling off. . . . Electric windows repaired twice. . . . Began making noises when weather was damp. . . Took it to be checked out and was assured it would not always happen but normal. . . Told them transmission seemed to be slipping. . . . One headlight had a short, and then recall on brakelight. . . They did repair that. . . But informed me that was all they had time to do that do due to recall. . . Gas cap cover was sticking as well. . . Didn't fix it either. . . . Then my air bag light came on. . . Took it in for recall on that . . . After it was supposedly fixed airbag light did not go off, insisted it had nothing to do with sensor that was recalled. . . Noise in front end began and floorboard flooded during heavy rain. . . . With no obvious entry point. . . . Did search for problems with vw Beetles and there are thousands having the very same problems I have been experiencing. . . . Now heat gauge light comes off and on, alarm randomly sounds. . . . . But noise in front end concerns me greatly. . . Would not even diagnose car without $98 bucks an hour labor charge to find problems. . . . This car only has 34,952 miles on it and it is falling apart. . . No way can all these problems be fixed and me make payments. . . . But thousands are having these very same problems. . . Why has our government not insisted on a recall. . . . .
Driving down the road in my car the day time running light went out. The brights still work but the passenger side headlight doesn't unless it is on brights, I thought this was just normal maybe the light work out but I was told it was the connection and I have seen so many with the same headlight out this is unsafe and can potentially result in a ticket or a wreck.

Vehicle caught on fire, possible engine failure, while driving the vehicles brake system failed and the driver had to use the emergency brake to stop vehicle. The head light malfunctioned and the vehicles is flling apart after one month of ownership. The dealer refused to fix it.
Failed headlight cannot be replaced by owner because of the difficulty of removing front car panel. The only dealer within 30 minute drive cannot work on the car within the next 5 days, resulting in car having to be driven without headlight. Suggest dealers make exceptions for working on cars in need of a headlight, since it's a core piece of safety equipment and that consumers be made aware of the design problem before buying this car because of both the time and expense involved in a piece of equipment that is subject to failure at any time.
Left headlight went out first, then again. Air compressor replaced 3 times. Car now stalls. Replaced fuel/air filters, still stalls. Car was recalled for the electrical system wiring harness under hood, recall states all problems I have had. I was not the owner at time of recall. Apparently was not fixed at recall.
My 1998 Volkswagen Beetle is falling apart. I've had to replace my headlights 6 times within the past 4 years that I've owned this used vehicle. My interior trim, window switches, gearshift knob & several plastic covers in the car have fallen now fallen apart. My 6 headlights have cost me approx. $600. 00 plus rent-a-car fees which my warranty doesn't cover! please help me.
Headlights burnt out.
Multiple problems with car since purchase.
Consumer was traveling on the highway and noticed that headlight went out on the passenger's side. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership, and mechanic told him he needed a new headlight assembly.
Dealer refuses to schedule prompt repair for current headlight failure (request 5-10 days); current headlight failure includes permanent failure of left headlight and intermittent failure of both headlights; consumer reports reports 1998 new Beetle as "used car to avoid" (April 2000issue, p. 75); new Beetle website conducted survey of owners of 1998 model - 55 percent report trouble with the car, 90 percent of which is electrical; a recall was issued for 1998 Beetles manufactured in first half of 1998 because of faulty wiring that could cause fire in engine compartment (we were not notified of a recall); there are many complaints of Beetle owners regarding vw consumer service; we have received substandard service from our dealer, including one repair on a failed headlight that was not performed as stated, forcing us to return the car.
Driver side head light continually stops working.
Headlamp: I stated to my dealer that my headlamps were not properly adjusted, dealer found left headlamp had no possible adjustment, and replaced the entire assembly. Fog lights: fog lamps when switched on, don't light. After a few minutes of driving, they come on sometimes.
Headlights aimed too high.
Headlights will go out while in use without warning. When vehicle is in cruise control mode it will either surge or continue to accelerate. Dealership stated they need to separate the engine and transmission in order to fix the problem. The windshield wiper works intermittently. The dealership replaced the motor but the problem recurred. Consumer noted he has seen a lot of one headlight Beetles and that the problem is widespread.
Consumer replaced brake lights/headlights/rear brake pads and rotors/ engine shield and cooling system.
