37 Power Window problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/20/2009

My drivers side rear window will not move up or down anymore. The first time it happened I was putting the top down on my convertible and when you press the button for the top to come down the rear windows come down a little to allow for the top to move. It made a grinding noise then the window went all the way down, which has never happened and did not happen on the other side. I put the top back up but the window would not roll back up. I could hear the motor for the window working to pull it up. I ended up having to pull the window up manually while pressing the window up button so my car wasn't exposed to the weather or broken into. I have been told it is the regulator that is out and don't have the $ to fix it.

38 Power Window problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

The car is convertible and both rear windows stopped operating normally and there was a window-crunching sound and the windows were stuck, had to move them in the upright position by hand and put some kinds of rubber door stops to keep them in the up position. It is funny how both stopped working around the same time (probably a week apart) literally right after the warranty expired. It seems from what I have seen to be a standard problem in these cars and I just wanted to share my experience as well. Also the front window regulator started acting up and you could feel something was not properly aligned because when you move the window you could feel like it was not moving as smoothly as the passenger's door. It would not go all the way down and it would be sticking up like an inch or so, then other times it will go down all the way but it will make this funny sound like it is stuck on something. I tried opening the door cover and before even got to disassembling of the inner panel and realized the cable had broken. I don't know what is the reasoning for all this but it looks that because of the fact that the windows will travel a bit down everytime you have to put the roof up or down it might put extra strain and wear that was not planned for initially. In my honest opinion if you get 3 out of 4 window regulator problems in less than the cars first 4-5years, there has got to be something wrong or flaws with the design thanks.

39 Power Window problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

Vw 2005 convertible bug both rear window problems, will not roll up or down. Passenger side window is making a horrible squeaking noise, seems to be the next one to go. Along with head light shortages. The last 5 years I have at least replaced the headlights at least 8 times. Recently both headlights have turned themselves off/out. This is ridiculous! this is unacceptable and vw should be ashamed of themselves to not fix the problems that are obviously flawed! I understand putting out a product will have some flaws, but not standing behind their brand name and not making things right is a slap in the face. I was a proud owner of my first car I bought myself. And all I have to show and get out of the deal is an empty wallet and embarrassment when I drive down the road because features don't work right. Do what's right vw and man up to your mistake. I would buy 10 more cars like the one I have if only they took pride in their product and honored the average loyal customer. I'm a 25 year old girl who supports myself on my own dollar. I was raised knowing you fix what problems you create. Be accountable and do what's right! it's your turn vw please do what's right.

40 Power Window problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 12/16/2008

2003 vw Beetle shifts so very hard between 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear it feels like the car is going to break. Took to dealership to perform a diagnostic. They said it was the transmission gasket. I replaced it, problem still exists. Driver's side window rolls down on its own. Passenger side window hits the top (when putting it up) then rolls down. Dealership says this is a safety feature.

41 Power Window problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

I own a 2002 vw Beetle and the passenger side window regulator went out about 2 months ago and have since changed it out. Now the same thing has happened to the drivers side. I have noticed surfing the web that there have been several other complaints about this problem. Why does this happen so frequently and is there a recall on this item? if not there should be.

45 Power Window problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 02/25/2008

Purchased 1999 vw Beetle 20 months ago. Car has only 54,000 miles. Since owning the car have already over $3,500 in repairs. All of the repairs were done at my local darcar vw repair shop. I believe some of these repairs were recalls and have all receipt. Is there someone I can sent my repair receipts to to see if I can be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses which should have been recall services? I can forward receipts. Also seven days ago the passenger side window regulator broke and it appears it had been recalled per two vw owner who had same problems but I can't find the recall information on it. Can you suggest how I can view all recalls for 1999 vw Beetle GLS?.

46 Power Window problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/21/2007

I have had to replace all four power window regulators. I am now having to replace one of the replacements. This vehicle only has 83000 miles on it. The parts to repair this window are extremely expensive - over $500. I've already invested well over $1500 replacing the regulators already. Volkswagen is making defective parts and will not stand behind their product. I filed a complaint earlier on this vehicle for a defective airbag. This car has not been abused. I've taken good care of it. The airbag was never deployed or damaged in any way. If the airbag is defective it is because vw puts defective airbags in their vehicles.

47 Power Window problem of the 1998 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

Since I purchased my Beetle in 2001, it has been an ongoing money drain. In 6 yrs. I have replaced the manual transmission twice, had the brakes worked on a number of times, been unable to open the gas "door" on the car w/ the gas cap latch, had to replace the hood opening latch, had repeated electrical failures, problems w/ front & rear light wiring, had door locks/alarm fail & subsequently had my laptop stolen from the car, the radio has not worked for 1+ year, & it's cover panel is loose & falling back into the dash, the rear-view mirror switches have failed, the power window switches have had to be replaced, the drivers side door fell off (!) of its top hinge when the hinge broke while opening the door normally at a gas station, the air compressor has failed many times, the a/c is currently not working, the drivers side door lock fell out of the handle(!!!!), the catalytic converter has been replaced twice, & the list goes on. Currently I have not been driving the car for several wks b/c though only a week or two out of the shop, again it is having transmission problems. I am at my wits end with this car & having recently graduated from college, am not in the greatest position to have to buy a new car. Moreover, I am so displeased w/ the car that I would literally feel guilty about trading it in to be sold to some other unsuspecting person. Vw should be so ashamed of themselves, & should be reimbursing owners of the 1998 Beetle in full for all of the strife & trouble that they have caused. In fact, after writing this & realizing how many problems this car has had, I may try to take legal action - this is totally unacceptable! finally, our local vw dealer is terrible, keeping my car for wks. Longer than expected, one time leaving a candy bar stuck to my passenger side seat!!!, and acting like they could care less about the poor quality of their products & labor.

48 Power Window problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/15/2007

Currently have very low mileage(now under 20000) 2002 vw new Beetle purchased new. After time warranty expired both power window(passenger and driver sides) regulators failed (at different times and mileages) spontaneously not due to any external event. . Both regulators required replacement at considerable cost. This is very unusual because auto window regulators usually are very durable when not damaged by external crash or the like. I reported this to Volkswagen but got no satisfaction. On the internet I have found many other complaints from owners about this problem to their dismay and without satisfaction from Volkswagen. There should have been a recall for the defective parts!.

49 Power Window problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/11/2007

Driverside rear electric window ceased functioning on my 2003 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. This hinders lowering the top and I have learned that in some cases the window falls open and cannot be closed. While this has not happened yet, I worry that it might. The replacement part has been on national backorder for months. I have subsequently learned that this is a common problem with this vehicle and other owners are facing the same difficulty getting it resolved. I suspect this to be a seriously defective design to be happening so frequently.

50 Power Window problem of the 2003 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

The contact owns a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle convertible. The contact's vehicle is equipped with windows that roll down slightly when the door is ajar and roll back up when the door is closed. However, when the vehicle was purchased, this feature failed to work properly. The contact had the driver side window motor replaced, but a few weeks later, the failure recurred. Oftentimes, the contact would hear wind noise while driving or water would enter into the vehicle. Currently, the vehicle is at the dealer for a diagnosis. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 44,000.

51 Power Window problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/20/2006

The window regulators on the vehicle are predictably failing approximately every 2 years without much use at all. The part is poorly engineered and expensive to replace. It is a known issue that vw refuses to fix. I have had my window regulators replaced on each of my 4 windows twice: September 30, 2006right rear window regulator replacement July 18, 2007left rear window regulator replacement April 29, 2009left front regulator replacement August 15, 2009right front window replaced (shattered when a friend closed, not slammed, the door) July 21, 2010left rear window regulator ? repaired by vw October 31, 2010right rear window regulator July 20, 2012 left rear window regulator failed (not yet repaired) this is unacceptable for a company that claims to have exceptional engineering. Web searches have revealed that countless customers have this same complaint and that the issue is also with jetta, passat and other vw vehicles. They should be made to manufacture a better part and fix the issue free of charge for all customers.

67 Power Window problem of the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 05/09/2001

May 2001 was the first time that a window (drivers) felt thruough door cavity on my vehicle. The dealer repaired and that was it. The next month the passenger window had the same luck and this time the service advisors at the dealer (camelback Volkswagen at phoneix, az) commented that this was fairly common on the Volkswagens, and now that both of my systems where repaired I did not have to worry anymore. I was upset and asked how come there was no recall and they said that vw did not considered a safety issue once the window falls you have no way to lock the car unless you take it to the dealer for service!! on July 29, 2002 my previoulsly repaired window felt into the doors cavity one more time. I called the dealer and asked for an explanation and I was told that the installed part was not working properly and that a new part was designed and being installed on broken vehicles. This time I called Volkswagen and demanded that both of my windows systems where to be repaired at the same time with the newly design part, and asked why there is not a recall on this matter and they claimed that there is not a significant amount of cases. Well the dealer tells me that they are dealing with 10-15 cases a day and they do not even have the part in stock. , it is on back order and they can only prop the window and leave unmobile until the parts arrive. In the meantime vw refuses to replace the other part on the drivers side until it fails, even when they know that the installed part is failing constantly at least in the state of arizona.
