1 Horn Assembly problem of the 2015 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 10/21/2020

As I was making a u-turn I could hear a noice from my steeling wheel and immediately the airbag light came on and read "error: airbag". I couldn't help but panic thinking of all the possibilities that can happen. I noticed the buttons on the steering wheel weren't working and later realizing my horn didnt work either. I called the nearest dealership and they automatically wanted to charge me for a diagnosis. They insisted that they had already worked on an airbag recall (69y5) my car had and that the diagnosis found "numerous codes. " one of them was code vag00588 -driver airbag igniter upper limit exceeded telling me they need to install a new steeling wheel clock spring. Debris like fibers and hairs interfered with the wires causing the wires to break internally and resulting in a loss of electrical connection to the drivers frontal airbag. Meaning it will prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of a crash. They quoted me a price of $971. 77 for repairs plus the $160. 00 for the diagnosis. I was furious and refused to spend more money on repairs. I have always taken care of everything my car needs. I've spent so much money on it already. But this is where I draw the line, I'm not spending another grand+ on it when this is clearly a manufacturing defect. I am a commuter. I commute long distances to and from work everyday, so having a faulty airbag, non responding horn or steering wheel controls is extremely scary. Interestingly, vw recalled certain 2010-2014 vehicles with exactly the same issue. Recall code:69l2 Volkswagen needs to take responsibility, recall 2015 vw Cc and correct this defect free of charge. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed without delay. I rely on this car everyday so this issue gets me more and more upset each and everyday.

2 Horn Assembly problem of the 2015 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 03/05/2020

I started to hear a weird noise when turning. A couple of days later the airbag light came on and the horn and buttons on the steering wheel stopped working. It's very dangerous to drive without a horn and it's scary to know that your airbag won't deploy in a crash. This happened at 50,000 miles.

3 Horn Assembly problem of the 2013 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 07/05/2019

Regarding the ongoing investiagtion for failed replacement of the clock spring recall. (NHTSA action number: ea18003). Two weeks ago, while turning into a parking spot my steering wheel made a discerning clicking sound. After returning to my car I noticed an airbag error as well as all controls on the steering wheel not functioning including the horn. Since then these problems have remained. I have checking my VIN to see if the previous owner had the clock spring replaced for the recall but there are none. I presume that the replacement clock spring is faulty just like the one that was replaced.

4 Horn Assembly problem of the 2016 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

What happens is exactly what is described in other models and years of the same model. Failure of the steering power and airbag failure due to failure of clockspring. This is a new car and it would be quite a coincidence to have this same issue with the same manufacturer and not have it be causally related based on the same defect which caused a similar recall. The airbag sensor light wen ton, horn wouldn't work, electrical components on wheel won't work. Bringing for replacement of clockspring (same as in other recall).

6 Horn Assembly problem of the 2010 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 03/16/2018

Horn has stopped working. Dealer is saying that the repair needed is replacement of the clock spring, which has not been replaced yet on this car, and was not part of the previous clock spring recall (15v483000). Car has had a mild scraping sound around the steering wheel since I got it at 12,500 miles, which is a known symptom of clock spring problems. Currently car has 105000 miles. The takata airbag recall service was performed very recently, within the last month. There is no error light on currently, airbag or otherwise. But I cannot pass state inspection without the horn working. Due to the original reason for the clock spring recall on this model, I am concerned that the airbag may not be working properly, and additionally, that the car is less safe for not having a horn. I was not notified to get service for the previous recall, despite having a model that was known to have problems.

7 Horn Assembly problem of the 2010 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 02/19/2018

I had my clock spring replaced last year due to the recall, then my airbag light went on and my steering wheal started doing a clicking sound when I steer to the left or right all control panels on my steering wheel stopped functioning including the horn. I called Volkswagen and they said that they would charge me $150 to access the car, I told them about clock spring and they said that I would have to pay to get that fixed. I really don't find this fair that I have to pay to get something fixed that originally wasn't done correctly I think that they should take more responsibility for their workmanship. Also my seatbelt claps docent work I called them to see if this is something that they would fix being a safety issue and they said no. I think that all car companies should be responsible for seatbelt and airbag issues on a car. Not everyone has the money to replace seatbelt clasp and many people live day by day on there paycheck.

8 Horn Assembly problem of the 2014 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

My horn,my air bag and all controls in steering wheel are not working. I took it to vw service center & they quoted me $948 for a new clock spring. Hasnt this part been recalled? it's a lease and that's insane, this is the second time this has happened.

11 Horn Assembly problem of the 2010 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

Clock spring recall recently my airbag light went on and when I make a turn with a steering wheel rotation of over 270* my horn will go off, I also only have intermittent use of the steering wheel controls to my instrumentation. There is a recall on the year and make of my car for the clock spring, however my VIN is not included. The signs point to a defective clock spring to which I lost the functionality of my airbag and the electronic functionality of my steering wheel. I called vw service department and they said my vehicle is not covered under the recall so there is no need to bring it in. I really don't feel safe operating this vehicle considering there has been an open recall involving the takata recall for well over a year. (vw told me that they will contact me when parts are available to fix). This happened when I made a left turn into a parking spot, the airbag light when on and it said "service airbag".

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Vehicle was being turned around in a parking lot when a clicking noise was heard. The air bag light illuminated and all of the steering wheel functions (I. E. Horn, radio controls, etc. ) stopped working. Took it into the Volkswagen dealership and was informed that it was the "clock spring " in the steering wheel was in need of replacement.

15 Horn Assembly problem of the 2011 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

While driving my steering wheel controls stopped functioning to include my horn, airbag, esp, and traction control. After researching the web I found this is a common issue on all vw models and occurs around 40,000 miles. Apparently the vw clockspring in the steering column assembly has a design flaw, and there is no recall at this time.

17 Horn Assembly problem of the 2009 Volkswagen CC

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

Issue happened after incident in August 2011 and progressively became worse. Steering wheel will lose electrical power to controls (I. E. Stereo controls) and causes airbag warning light to come on and horn will not function at all. Dealer looked into issue and found that the clockspring needed replacement. Clockspring replaced in steering wheel and airbag issue has been resolved but steering wheel control issue still remains along with not having a working horn. Vw USA had no known fix for this issue as al wiring is in working order. Dealership requested vehicle be brought back in for a further look.
