Started the car and the red steering wheel light came on. I have no power steering. Turned the car off, restarted and power steering was active and red light was off but the effort to turn was lighter than normal. The next time we started the car we had no power steering again. This is very dangerous, when it does work it over corrects the steering at highway speeds. When not working my wife can not turn the wheel. The dealer diagnosed a short in the steering rack. $2000 to fix something that should last at least 100,000 miles.

Hello, I have a 2010 vw Cc. My airbag light has come on and my horn and steering wheel controls don't work. Volkswagen does have a recall for the "clockspring" which would fix all this but my VIN is not covered under this recall even though some of the same cars and same year are covered. I called them and they said I would have to go get it fixed at a dealership and I would maybe get a refund. Since then my steering wheel light has came on and it is very hard to turn. I can't believe they wouldn't cover this. I would think airbag and horn are huge safety concerns and they already know that this parts fails. When I called Volkswagen customer service they lady could not help me at all other then saying there is another recall for the airbag but they don't have a fix yet so there's nothing they can do. I at least would like my airbag and horn to work, right? also, I asked to speak to a manager twice and both times I was put on a 10 minute hold only for her to come back and say "my manager told me to tell you" both times. No help at all. I truly hate Volkswagen and their customer service. Any help or direction would be much appreciated. Thank you - benjamin r.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Cc. While driving approximately 40 mph, a popping noise emitted from the steering column and the steering wheel slightly seized. The steering wheel began to turn independently. The contact continued to drive with force being applied to the steering wheel. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
While turning onto a major intersection, a red steering wheel light popped up on my dash display and the steering wheel locked immediately. . . It took a great deal of strength to get my car to safety in a parking lot before the steering wheel could not be moved at all. Contacted the dealership I bought it from as I only had the car for 2 days.
