Clock spring failure. Should have been included in recall (2015 Cc), but told my specific vehicle isn't by vw. Caused airbags to not work and multiple other fault codes.

The airbag light went off in the instrument cluster. I hear what sounds like a disconnected cable rubbing against the steering wheel whenever I try to make a turn. All buttons in the steering wheel are non functional after the incident. Really concerned if the airbag won’t deploy and cause fatal or deadly injuries in case of crash. I don’t feel safe driving it in this condition.

The power steering keeps failing while driving. It is available for inspection, ASAP. This is a very dangerous hazard to lose the ability to steer the vehicle at any speed. I have not taken to my mechanic, yet. I have read all sorts of problems with steering since the takata air bag replacement recall. Ever since the airbag replacement, many of my warning lights have been illuminated. The dealer told me it is due to the sensors on my tires. I see they were previously recalled and now I have a problem with them, too. Right before the steering fails, I hear a gone and the red steering wheel light illuminates. I am then forced to slowly get off the road, barely able to turn the wheel, turn off the vehicle and re-start the engine to get the power steering to re-set itself. It is happening more and more often. Just went to doctor appt Friday and it happened five (5) times going to and from doctor (14 mile round trip). I see dealers are telling people it is a clock spring and they are charing up to $ 6,800. To repair. My car only has 56,000. Miles on it !!!.

The car had an air bag recall fixed and a few weeks later the air bag light came on and the horn won't work. Now the dealership wants the customer to pay for repairs stating that it is the clock spring that is broken. This problem is a direct result of the air bag repair.
When I am driving the vehiclel sometimes it hesitates I don't know if f is air flow sensor or transmission a had no idea.

Bought the car used and took it to a mechanic to get it checked out. Low and behold they informed me I have a failing power steering module, rear main seal, carbon build up on the intake, as well as cracks in both front control arms. Took it to a dealer who confirmed this diagnosis and gave me a $6250 quote for the work. Car was driving fine and felt great. After taking it to the shop the check engine light was on. Car has 90k on it and was under warranty until then. All these items were neglected by the dealer.

The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Cc. The contact stated that, while driving, the steering became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinon needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but there was an abnormal rattling noise detected. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle shifted hard. The steering wheel was loose. The air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the motor mount bolt had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but no further assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Steering wheel clock spring broke. No horn or function buttons working along with the airbag.
There was a recall on the steering wheel clock spring on the Volkswagen Cc. Instead of replacing the clock spring in my car, there was a temporary rubber bamd placed on the steering wheel clock. The following week, the entire steering wheel clock broke and the air bag light came on. I cannot use any of the functions on my steering wheel. The dealership claims that the problem was fixed according to the recall and it's nothing they can do about it.
Air bag light is on after 6 months of taking the car to the dealer to repair the issue after the recall. Went back to dealer and they want to charge me to fix the issue.
Vw clock spring recall investigation driving down the road at 35-40 mph and the car beeps with "error: airbag" then the steering wheel made a weird noise. The horn and controls on the steering wheel are not working. I took it to the vic bailey vw dealership and they said it was the clock spring that needed to be replaced. I know there is an investigation into the previous recall and I believe that my car was affected but not included in the recall.
I had my clock spring replaced last year due to the recall, then had my air bag replaced a month ago. The recall for the clock spring stated that the airbag replacement may cause the clock spring to fail. But since I had the clock spring replaced before the airbag I am apparently not subject to have any failure since it was a new part. Well guess what happened my clock spring sure enough failed 1 month after the air bag was replaced. I guess vw did a great job mitigating that disaster.
My horn,my air bag and all controls in steering wheel are not working. I took it to vw service center & they quoted me $948 for a new clock spring. Hasnt this part been recalled? it's a lease and that's insane, this is the second time this has happened.
When I try to start my car, my steering starts shaking badly for 30 seconds. The whole car is shaking as well. After the shaking, the steering freezes and locked. The red steering working sign shows up. I cannot drive the car at all. The same issue has been widely reported by many vw customers online. You can find several videos on youtube. Vw dealers told me they cannot fix it and refused to replace it as well.

From the Volkswagen recall site steering wheel air bag & clock spring. Summary: Volkswagen group of America, inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Volkswagen Cc vehicles. In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring, a spiral wound, flat cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. This contamination may tear the cable and result in a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag. Consequence: a loss of electrical connection to the driver's frontal air bag will prevent the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury. The local vw dealer says our car is not included however, nothing works on the steering wheel and the air bag warning light in the dash is on. When contacting vw direct I am told NHTSA is responsible for expanding the recall to include our VIN. Questions? is our car safe to drive? if we have a front end collision will the steering wheel air bag work? if NHTSA is aware of 420,000 recalls for this same issue will the recall be expanded to cover other VIN? this is an expensive fix and all logic tells me it should have been included in the original recall.
Clock spring recall recently my airbag light went on and when I make a turn with a steering wheel rotation of over 270* my horn will go off, I also only have intermittent use of the steering wheel controls to my instrumentation. There is a recall on the year and make of my car for the clock spring, however my VIN is not included. The signs point to a defective clock spring to which I lost the functionality of my airbag and the electronic functionality of my steering wheel. I called vw service department and they said my vehicle is not covered under the recall so there is no need to bring it in. I really don't feel safe operating this vehicle considering there has been an open recall involving the takata recall for well over a year. (vw told me that they will contact me when parts are available to fix). This happened when I made a left turn into a parking spot, the airbag light when on and it said "service airbag".
While driving my vehicle, I heard a low pop, the vehicle would not turn and collided with 4 other parked vehicles. Upon inspecting my car after the incident, the right front wheel was completely unhinged from the vehicles steering and suspension system. Vehicle towed to body shop and upon further inspection in the day time, the entire lower and upper control arm had completely failed. The right front axle was ripped from the steering knuckle, a part of the lower control arm where the bushing would be was broken. The entire right front suspension system had basically collapsed, causing me to loose control of the vehicle's steering system. This vehicle is serviced at ourisman Volkswagen of rockville MD. They did not notify me that this was an issue. The vehicle did not exhibit signs that there was a potential problem with the suspension system such as vibrations in the front end. There would be an occasional clunk heard when reversing, but was told that was from the engine moving in the subframe and the remedy would be to install subframe bolts.
Takata recall. I left my car at vw open road in manhattan 09/19/2016 around 11:20am for a recall fix, they said it will be available 4pm , they called me 5:42pm telling me there is a problem, you have a lot of thing that need to be fixed like engine , front tires. . And the list is long. . They asked me to pay $199 fees in order to just check everything and then let me know how much I have to pay. . , instead of them fix the 2 recalls I have in that car and apologize to me, they trying to throw the ball back to so it sound like my problem and I have to pay, it's not theirs !!! they asked me to get a new car and of course I have to pay for the new car they said, I didn't even finish paying for my affected one yet. . . I'm really disappointed, angry, especially that I need this car for my work . . . I still left the car there in order for them check what needs to be fixed and of course they said I have to pay for it. . . What customer service is this ????!!!.
Takata recall. Steering wheel still clicking. And engine light on for emission issue, which goes on only when turning and eventually goes back off.
Driving down highway and steering wheel took the car left, lost control and crashed. Entire wheel and axle was off vehicle. Lucky that the driver airbag opened as there was an open recall on it for possible defect.
Takata recall---received letter stating that the airbag in the steering wheel that may inflate during an accident may throw out sharp, steel pieces of metal when it inflates. Said it was dangerous to drive. No accident has happened as your letter advised that it is too dangerous to drive it in this condition. This is costing me a lot of money and I want something done immediately!!!!!!!! it has been months since I was notified and this car is very important to our daily lives. No information has come to us regarding this air bag issue. I have thousands of dollars tied up in this car and it has been months since we were notified. I want someone to call me at (503) 655-0956 or mail to 14025 s. Conway drive, oregon city, or 97045.

The contact owns a 2014 Volkswagen Cc. The contact stated that the hardware for the steering wheel was on a national back order for a manufacturer's recall. The contact was unable to determine when the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer was unable to determine when the dealer would be supplied with the parts for the recall repair. The contact ahd not experienced a failure. The VIN and NHTSA campaign number were not available.
For no apparent reason, steering clock spring ceased function, resulting in the loss of steering wheel controls, but more importantly, the horn and driver's side airbag. Upon internet search, this is a very common problem, starting at 50,000 miles.
On multiple occasions, vehicle failed to start, but displayed a "steering wheel lock defective" alert. When key is removed and replaced in the ignition, it will then start. In addition, the engine is now in need of replacement due to oil running low. The vehicle was maintained on its regular 10,000 mile schedule and did not give any warnings or alerts. It altogether failed to start and gave only a shaking/rattling noise when trying to crank. In all instances, the vehicle was stationary.
Car will only start intermittently. Idles before starting sometime on the 3rd try or not at all. Lights flash during idle on dash board.
Vehicle makes a grinding and creaking sound from steering assembly. I am aware of several other vw/Audi models (a4, Cc, passat, jetta, gti) experiencing the same issue. Volkswagen is aware of this issue and has refused to put out a recall or fix the issue under warranty or good will. As per dealer recommendation, if the issue goes unfixed could result in a fatal accident due to potentially losing complete steering without any warning. Was told by dealership that I need to replace the whole steering assembly. The vehicle is barely 5yrs old and less than 70k miles. I have found several online posts in forums from drivers who have experienced similar if not more catastrophic incidents where they lost complete steering control (found in various vw/Audi forums). When turning steering wheel to left or right, there is a groan, grinding or whirring sound emitting from the steering assembly; there is also the occasional popping sounding from either left or right, depending on direction and angle of steering input. There is also a creaking sound that can be heard from the right / passenger wheel when traveling at low to moderate speeds. Will also experience vibration or noticeable feedback in steering wheel at highway speeds (50mph +) similar to tie-rod end links going bad. Or will feel noticeable feed back while taking a slow corner when wheel is held or turned to left (as in getting on or off an exit ramp). I have filed a complaint with vw but they will not resolve or help contribute to the repairs claiming that vehicle is out of warranty. However, steering systems should not fail in such an early stage of a vehicle's life unless workmanship and quality are sub-par.
Error air bag error was the error that appears on my display when I turn on car. Horn & all buttons on steering wheel stopped working. This is on the vw Cc year is 2012. I am told by service department it is due to a failure of the clockspring hence I must replace the clockspring with control unit and part only is almost 450 dollars, and labor is additional.
Turning the steering wheel at low speed as I was exiting a parking lot and heard a metallic sound and steering got very tight, several warning leds presented on the dash display indicating air bag failures. All features incorporated with the steering wheel were inoperable including the horn. Took vehicle to vw dealer, service tech codes indicated the sccm module/clock spring has failed and needs to be replaced ASAP at a cost of ~ $ 800. 00.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Cc. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart after unknown attempts. The contact mentioned that the failure occurred on two occasions. The vehicle was taken to vacaville Volkswagen (21 orange dr, vacaville, CA 95687) where it was diagnosed that unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. In addition, the contact stated that there was a loss of power while driving various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer, but was not diagnosed due to the cost. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact experienced another failure where the steering wheel seized while driving. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired for the failure. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 17v509000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 16v078000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer did not offer further assistance. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available and parts distribution disconnect.
I have never had any problems. Never in an accident or had anything replaced. All maintenance up to date. Started the car with no issues. Continued to drive going 35mph normal driving conditions and multiple warning lights appeared. Abs. Power steering, emergency brake, and air bag. Took it to closest auto repair to make sure nothing dangerous was about to occur. Quick diagnostic and they said all problems are electrical. Nothing physically wrong with the car and will likely need new sensors and clockspring.
