1 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 03/14/2026

My airbag light came on my 2012 Eos and vw dealer said it was a clock spring part issue causing it part number (5k0-953-569-al) I mentioned this is a safety issue as it also disabled my horn on steering wheel and was pretty sure vw had a recall/bulletin or campaign on this issue. Appears for some odd reason vw didn’t have my VIN [xxx] listed or flagged which I believe is a clear mistake. I am escalating this situation with vw and now here as my vehicle is having this same problem and needs listed as well. I strongly feel vw should replace the defective part 5k0-953-569-al as part of an unidentified VIN or vehicle they seem to pick and choose and that isn’t right. Volkswagen recall # 69l2 NHTSA campaign # 15v483000 I am not driving it right now as not safe and feel vw needs to step up and do what is right as exempting vehicles by VIN or whatever is not taking proper responsibility for the defects known. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

2 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 02/21/2025

In an accident I was struck by another vehicle that swerved into my lane at a very high rate of speed. His vehicle struck my car on the drivers side front quater panel just after the head light and continued past the drivers door. Air bags failed to deploy causing injuries to my head and body. In a separate accident, head on collision the airbags failed in the front and side causing bodily injuries. The failure of the air bags to deploy was supposed to fixed in Nov 2022 at the vw dealership with the clock spring recall . I did have that replaced so why did mine fail not once but twice after the clock spring was replaced?.

3 Air Bag problem of the 2007 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 08/29/2022

I have contacted vw and brought vehicle in for airbag module light. Code 01218 due to passenger seat airbag. Was told it wasn’t repairable. Isn’t this a safety issue? I thought all airbags were covered under the life of the vehicle?.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 07/19/2022

The clockspring on the car went out. This mean all steering wheel controls don’t work, but more importantly, the air bags do not work either. We were told by the dealer the clocksprings are on back order and have been since November 2021. There are 8500 already on back order. We were told it could be 6 months to a year before the part is available. Dealership says vw won’t allow them to do loaners, vw says it’s up to the dealership. I’m the meantime, my 24 year old is driving around with no air bags.

5 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 05/03/2022

Clock spring failure causing complete disconnect of all steering wheel electrical components as well as disabling the airbag.

6 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 01/16/2022

The clockspring in my 2014 vw Eos failed on January 17, 2022. It was brought into the alexandria, va vw dealer who confirmed the problem and that the clockspring was under extended warranty due to known problems on January 19, 2022. However, the part was unavailable and no eta was available, so I brought the car back home. As of April 19, 2022, Volkswagen continues to have no eta for this part despite ongoing communication on my part. The vehicle has no working driver's side airbag or horn, which is a safety risk. Vokswagen continues to state that they are awaiting an eta from their manufacturer. This must be impacting a significant amount of people, as this part is used for a number of jetta and Eos model years.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 01/08/2022

The clockspring is a recalled item… took the car in for repair in early February. They (little rock Volkswagen) said them and continue to say the part is on back order (and there is over 4000 on back order) and cannot tell me when the part will be in. I called vw corporate and filed a complaint, they said the back order problem is between the dealer and the part manufacturer… on a recalled item? this is unacceptable. The airbag light is on but they tell me my daughter is safe. That there is not an airbag problem… but if there was I guess she just wouldn’t know… volkswagon needs to own this problem and resolve at the corporate level and get the part replaced or replace my vehicle. Little rock vw today had the audacity to suggest that I find the part on ebay and find a backyard mechanic to install it as they cannot??? really? a back yard mechanic??? a part on ebay?? corporate was no better… took my complaint and said I’d just have to wait on the part???.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 01/07/2022

The horn stopped working and the air bag icon warning light came on. The center console display is not working. My biggest concern is that of the steering wheel airbag not deploying in case of an accident. Told that there is a clock spring mechanism inside of the steering wheel that controls these functions and needs to be replaced. Cost is around$400-$600. Trying to determine why this safety feature was not recalled if in fact the air bag system was compromised with a faulty part. Need to know how to diagnose this defective part before I have a technician pull the steering wheel apart.

9 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 12/15/2021

Mid December 2021 the airbag light displayed and all functions on steering wherel quit working to include horn, cruise control, and all other buttons that interface with phone, radio and computer. After daughter returned from college 1st week of February 2022 was the first date available and is when the vehicle was seen by volkswagon of little rock. Service manager matt raup reported the clockspring was faulty and this is a manufacturer defect that is covered fully by volkswagon, however, the clockspring has been on back order since February and after calling every 2 weeks and calling again yesterday, 17 June 2022, with still no end on sight, I am filing this formal complaint. My college age daughter drives this vehicle with no horn and no driver airbag. As a retired us army veteran, I am all too familiar with risk assessment and mitigation and believe my daughter should not have to continue driving an unsafe vehicle. Additionally, we did not pay hard earned money to have a faulty and unreliable car and unsatisfactory driving experience. We either want a vehicle replacement or for volkswagon to make good on their promise to fix the problem. Respectfully, barry m schnaitman (501)247-9012 schnaitmanb@gmail. Com.

11 Air Bag problem of the 2013 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

In normal driving, I turned steering wheel to pull into a parking space and there was a snap in the steering wheel. This sound was the electrical connection to the steering wheel breaking away. I lost key functions from the steering wheel including the airbag, horn, and steering mounted controls.

12 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

While driving a 2012 vw Eos, the engine stumbled and unloaded tons of smoke out of the rear of the car. This incident occurred while driving the car at a high rate of speed and caused a dangerous situation. The dealership replaced the defective fuel injector, which happens to be under warranty for 120,000 miles. The issue I have is that vw will not proactively replace the defective fuel injectors, potentially causing 3 more dangerous situations. Additionally, when a fuel injector fails there is a high probability of a catalytic converter failure due to the engine misfire. This happened to me and vw would not cover the failure of the catalytic converter - which seems unfair, especially in light of vw's issue with its recent emission scandal. I had 2 independent mechanics verify the impact a failed fuel injector has, yet my Volkswagen dealership did not agree mine was caused by a failed injector.

13 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 01/15/2019

Takata recall. Recalled October 2018 for replacing the airbag unit, recall completed. In Nov. Dec. 2018 received phone calls telling us the wrong part had been fitted and we should return to the dealer joseph vw 3813 montgomery road, cincinnati ohio 45212. Returned car to dealer who after 2 1/2 hours could not get the wrong part off. Dealer to contact vw for instructions. Came back next day to collect the car. I found that back in October a new air bag assembly had been fitted which was the correct part. The wrong part was infact that only a new igniter was to be fitted. The dealer claimed he had kept the old airbag assembly, removed the new assembly from the vehicle and changed the igniter from the new assembly to the old assembly and reinstalled the old assembly. The problem was that the machanic could not get the part off which was stuct to the assembly. To reinstall the new igniter it needed modifcation which the macanic undertook and replaced with an uncalibrated torque wrench. I refused to sign the original invoice and only signed when I corrected the wording. My wife who drives the car is concerned that this mis match of modified parts is still less than 100% safe and will not drive our grandchildren to and from school.

14 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 12/07/2018

Takata recall I moved to the south bend indiana area last in the fall of 2017. The local dealer (about 5 miles away) is gurney-leep. I have been trying to have my automobile serviced to address the safety issue but the dealer refuses to make an appointment for me, refuses to create or put me on a contact list when the part "becomes available" and refuses to order the part so that the issue can be addressed. I have called the dealer multiple times since 2017. This year I called on Jan 10, Feb 12, and March 7 only to be told to call back next week. I have contacted vw corporate customer service twice but the dealer still will not perform the repair. Corporate advised me to drive approximately 80 miles north (about 90 minutes) to have the repair completed. It is my belief that the dealer is only performing this service when other automobiles that need another service are brought into the dealership so they can maximize the revenue. Dealers like this defeat the entire recall effort.

15 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

16 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 09/27/2018

Last week, while turning into our driveway, the steering wheel made a sound like rubber grinding. Immediately, an error message appeared indicating an airbag failure. The following day, while driving on a 4-lane highway, another vehicle began a lane change while I was in its blind spot. I applied the brakes, and attempted to sound the horn to alert the other motorist to avoid collision, however the car's horn failed. The accident was avoided, but the experience was unnerving. My wife took the vehicle to a local vw service center on 10/5/18, and was told the failure was related to an issue with the clock spring, a repair which she was told was uncovered by recall. We were a little suspicious, because the dealer had just performed a takata airbag recall service in February, then today we received another recall notice regarding the airbag but not this related issue. Some investigation in online publications like forbes, indicated that there was a recall for the clock spring in 2015, with this vehicle listed in the model list and production dates. However, vw does not list this recall under our VIN number. Again we are suspicious. It is our feeling that the failure of the clock spring, affecting the safety features of the driver's air bag and the car horn (the horn is not broken, the clock spring is), poses a motorist safety risk to this and other vehicles in traffic.

28 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 03/06/2018

I took my 2012 vw Eos to them for a clock spring failure which is under a recall. They told me that it did not fall under the recall because they put a dust cover over the clock spring in 2015. I told the that there is no way the mechanic who did the work could guarantee that no debris got into the clock spring during the 3 years prior to the dust cover being installed. I also told them that the feds opened another investigation in oct 2017 for vw not doing enough to fix the problem with the poorly designed part in 2015. I told the manager at the dealership about this and he said there was nothing he could do. He said that when the dust cover was put on they never got close to the clock spring. I told him that they didn't have to get close to the clock spring because debris had already gotten into the clock spring during the 3 years prior to it being installed which compromised the clock spring leading to the premature failure of the clock spring. I don't know if he understood what I was saying or was just blowing me off.

29 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 02/14/2018

The vw safety recall 15v483 - safety recall 69l2 on the clock spring- vw did their "fix" when I took it in 2016, however the steering wheel clock spring went bad (loss of steering control when backing up- also controls steering wheel controls such as cruise control) still- when I contacted vw service they ran my VIN and stated the problem was taken care of under the 2016 recall and it would only be fixed for cost. - obviously it did not take care of it. I took it into a private vendor of german cars who replaced the clock spring - total cost $543. 98 I feel that vw needs to expand this recall as they didn't do enough.

30 Air Bag problem of the 2011 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

Takata recall. Receive notice that I have faulty takata airbags a few years ago. Approximately one year later I received a notice that a temporary repair was available that would swap the original airbag with a replacement module of the original design that did not include a drying agent. That notice was clear that this was only an interim repair until a redesigned unit is available. I had the interim repair done on my vehicle. I noticed now that when searching for recalls, it says there are no active recalls on my vehicle. This is very concerning because they have not addressed the underlying design defect, and because there is not an active recall on the vehicle it seems that at this time it will not be fixed. Please contact Volkswagen and ensure that they are addressing the needed redesign of the airbag module. Thank you.

31 Air Bag problem of the 2012 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

As I was backing out of a parking spot on 12/29/17, not quite 3 months after I bought the car, the clock spring failed, which meant no airbags. Since I knew this was previously an issue, I contacted vw directly since the recall was not coming up at the dealership. They told me that the part had been previously fixed in 2016 under the recall, and even though the part failed again in less than 2 years, it wasn't covered under warranty.

32 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Volkswagen EOS

Failure Date: 12/20/2017

Clockspring failed after recall, causing the airbags to be inoperable as well as the horn and other safety features.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
