3 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 03/13/2008

While driving in a parking lot at a speed of about 5 mph, I hit a curb and the driver side curtain airbags deployed. There was a loud bang and the car filled with smoke. I called vw and they said that regardless of the speed of the accident if the car feels anything near the crash sensors the airbags will deploy even though there was no need and actually made the situation more dangerous and troublesome.

5 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2000 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/25/2006

Every major component of our airbag system has failed within a period of six months. - in 12/05 our airbag light illuminated and the dealer said the passenger airbag needed to be replaced so we did (vw paid for the part and we split the labor with the dealer for a total cost to us of approximately $250) - in 04/06 our airbag light illuminated and the dealer said the driver side airbag needed to be replaced so we did (vw said we'd used up our "good will" and didn't cover a thing but the dealer cut into their margins to give us a break so the total cost to us was in the mid $800's) - and in 06/06 our airbag light illuminated again and the dealer said the airbag controller needed to be replaced (we're not sure at this point what we're going to do).

6 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/20/2004

As I was getting into my car at night (2003 vw Gti) I noticed it was very cold. I then proceeded to try to turn the car on but the starter would not give, then to no avail I noticed that the airbag sensor light would not turn off. Roadside assitance through vw was contacted and stated unfortunatly under the extreme cold and due to it being so late at night they could not contact a tow to assist me .

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2003 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 10/26/2004

When the 2003 Volkswagen Gti vr6 was in a front end collision with a SUV and as a result was totaled the driver's air bag did not go off. It seems there may be more faulty aig bags out there in the 2003 year model Gti's. Nothing has been done to fix this problem. People, you're safety is at risk.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2002 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 02/06/2004

After running up a curb in my 2002 Gti 337 while turning left at an appropriate speed, the driver and passenger front airbags spontaneously deployed without any front-end collision. The deployment caused burns and brusing to my arms. The airbags had no reason to go off, as there was no damage the front bumper or hood. Some of these vehicles were held up at port prior to delivery due to airbag sensor issues. These problems should have been addressed and repaired prior to delivery of the vehicle.

9 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2001 Volkswagen GTI
