36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/29/2019

The problem started less than 24 hours from taking delivery of the vehicle with 16 miles on the odometer. The first incident happened at 111 miles on the odometer, 90 degrees ambient temp, oil temp 210. The engine dies when approaching a stop with the clutch depressed. Does it in neutral and when in first or second gear. Gauges remain on with lighting, tach at zero. After stalling the car starts with a push of the starter button, foot on brake and clutch depressed. If the car stalls when parking the gauges remain on with lighting, tach at zero. The car must be restarted and then shut off with the started button for the gauges and the rest of the cars electrics to power down. Not safe to drive.

37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/19/2019

This car was purchased new from crestmont vw in NJ one month ago. It has a manual transmission and when the clutch is engaged and I'm coming to a halt, the car has stalled multiple times. This first happened within the first week of owning the car, and now occurs at least once every other day or so (sometimes more frequently). It has happened when in neutral and when in second gear, though the clutch is always in. The car is at the dealer right now. I explained the situation and they could not reproduce the problem and the car's computer wasn't producing any diagnostic codes. Initially they told me that there was nothing they could do. I then spoke to a manager, showed him online forums where customers were reporting the exact same problem, and to his credit he agreed to keep the car to investigate further.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

Vehicle was purchased on 5/27/19. Vehicle has just over 1000 miles. Issue first started day after the purchase. The vehicle's engine will intermittently stall after coming to a stop. The nature of the stall is subtle, not jerky. Almost like a auto start/stop feature on a vehicle with an auto transmission (my Gti has a 6-speed manual). This has happened 10 times now. Ive had it happen with the clutch pedal pressed (clutch disengaged) and the vehicle gear shifter in neutral and also in gear. Ive also had it happen with the clutch pedal not pressed (clutch engaged) and the gear shifter in neutral. Car restarts fine, but this is definitely a safety issue that can lead to accidents.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/23/2019

My 6 speed manual transmission Gti se stalls after I come to a stop when the clutch is depressed to the floor. It has happened ~8 times since owning the vehicle (for 3 weeks). There are 650 miles on the car.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/22/2019

Whether the car is in gear or not the vehicle will stall out. When vehicle is in gear and clutch is fully depressed the vehicle will stall. Does not matter if it is 1st gear or reverse the same will happen.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Vehicle unexpectedly stalls while stationary in first gear, clutch fully depressed. Car will idle rough than stall. Vehicle unexpectedly stalls when approaching a stop in first gear. Sometimes stalls quietly, like the car turned off. Had the car a week and happened about 10+ times. Dealer told me can't replicate the problem, nothing to fix. Called vw corporate to let them know.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Engine stalls at low speeds with the clutch in (urano grey 6-speed manual). Sometimes the engine dies quick and clean, sometimes sputters/flutters and then dies. Car needs to be restated in traffic - dangerous! happens pretty rarely, but happened 4 times within city-ish 50 miles, so certainly a concern! new car has less than 400 miles on it.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 04/13/2019

Engine stalling in low speed.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

While driving at low speed the engine will stall.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 04/08/2019

My 2019 rabbit dsg Gti is stalling when coming to a stop. It happens usually when the car is already warm. When it starts happening, the issue comes up several times in the following stops. I have to put the transmission into p mode to turn the car on, having the car stopped for a while. Almost got rear ended because of this issue. Attached is a video of it happening (filmed on a private parking garage). . Read more...

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

I purchased a 2019 Gti s on March 30th 2019 and in one week's time I stalled out 7 times. 3 of those 7 times were when I was at a complete stop, in neutral with my foot on the brake only (not on the clutch). The other 4 times were in 2nd gear at low speeds between 8 and 10 mph when I was either pulling into a driveway or going over a long but low and not aggressive speed bump. The stall would happen when I would depress the clutch, not on the release.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 03/06/2019

I have the 6-speed manual transmission. While commuting home on surface streets and stopped at a stoplight with the car in neutral and the clutch out, the car randomly stalls. This only has happened while idling at a stoplight/stop sign. I have plenty of gas and no cel comes up. The engine is warm. It happens within 1-2 seconds after coming to a complete stop with the car in neutral. It has happened many times but then easily starts again. It's a very gentle stall and almost feels like the car has auto stop/start, which my car does not. Fortunately, the dealership was able to recreate the stalling. They even contacted and worked with vwoa but were not able to determine exactly what the problem was. They had the car for close to 2 weeks tried several different fixes, but none worked. So when all else fails, they did a capacitive hard reboot of the system and everything seemed to be fixed. However, after I picked the car up from the dealership, it stalled twice on my drive home. Now, it's been a couple of weeks since then and it hasn't stalled since, but it doesn't give me much confidence that it won't return if they don't know what the reboot did.

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/01/2018

Sometimes, after the car has warmed up and under hard acceleration there is a rattling noise coming from the lower engine area. The vw dealer investigated and confirmed it is the fuel lines rattling that is making the noise. They tried to insert some dampening material to secure the fuel lines but the noise persists.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/04/2018

Ongoing engine misfire issues. After 3 visits to dealership and replacement of coils, fuses, relays, etc, root cause determined to be a short between the after run coolant pump which causes a voltage draw and confuses the ecm. After talking with vw technician, I learned that this same exact part on Audi vehicles is under a safety recall for the shorting issue that my pump is having because the short can cause fires. However, the vw part is not under recall. My family could have been put in grave danger because this part is in my car and has not been recalled. In addition, even though the part has failed, vw will not compensate me for the repair, so I have no choice but to pay $500 out of pocket to fix a safety hazard in my vehicle. For reference, Audi recall number is 18v229000.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

I've started to notice that after driving my car and using the dsg shifter or sport mode, my car will not start back up for a while after parked. Seems only to happen after warm engine. I will start the car and then it will sputter before the engine shuts off. After about an hour or maybe longer, I am able to crank it and drive.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Gti. The contact stated that the fuel cap warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to neftin westlake Volkswagen (3550 auto mall dr, thousand oaks, CA 91362, (805) 497-9404) where the dealer stated that no recalls were associated with the VIN. The contact stated that an unknown failure was not determined. Upon picking up the vehicle, the warning indicator was no longer illuminated. That after leaving the dealer, the check engine indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to be diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/14/2017

I had my car's suction pump replaced when it was recalled. As far as I know, it could damage the charcoal canister filter due to fuel accumulation. Several months after suction pump was replaced, I had a check engine light which turned out to be a leaking charcoal canister. Tried asking for a refund from vw but they said they can't give me a refund as the recall was already closed. I'm under the assumption that the charcoal canister has been damaged by the faulty suction pump before it was replaced and it took several months before it really broke down. Thing is, I never knew how the recall will affect my car until I read how the thing works in credit karma app.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 10/09/2017

On October 9th, I attempted to start my car. It would turn over but would not start. I had to be towed to the nearest vw dealership. After inspection, I'm told that the timing mysteriously advanced and destroyed all the engine valves. And now my only two options are to either replace the engine or think about buying another car. My car has less than 85k miles, always maintained at a vw branded maintenance facility, and everything kept factory standard (no aftermarket or third-party components). Thankfully this did not occur while I was on the highway earlier in the day. According to numerous accounts by other vw owners, there was a common culprit that led to this very same problem. Many report a defective timing chain tensioner that broke around the same mileage, which then led to immediate destruction of the engine. I contacted vw hq directly and pleaded my case. Unfortunately, they will do nothing to assist me financially in repairing/replacing my car. Now I'm seeking other avenues to hold vw responsible for knowingly installing defective parts on their vehicles.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/02/2017

Vehicle has 48k miles. Check engine light came on and it was diagnosed as a p2015 error. Recommended replacement of intake manifold. Found information that vw extended warranty of the intake manifold to 10 years/100k miles in many vehicles, but my VIN was not included in that warranty extension. This seems to be a common, recurring problem in Volkswagens. This warranty extension needs to be extended to all vehicles.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/08/2017

Vehicle has just under 60,000 miles. A check engine light came on. It was p2015, which was associated with the intake runner position. Vw dealership says the flap inside the intake manifold has disintegrated. Vw had extended the warranty on 2. 0t engines from model year 2008 to 2011. However, 2013 is not covered. Vw has clearly not resolved the problems with the intake manifold for engines after 2011.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/09/2016

I got a recall letter from Volkswagen regarding suction pump in early November 2016. I immediately asked for an appointment and first dealer in fair lawn, new jersey gave me the appointment 2 weeks later then again rescheduled to 12/10/2016. Unfortunately, today I called again but part is still not available and they don't know when they will have it. I even asked Volkswagen to swap my car with another Volkswagen but they asked more money and rejected my offer. We still smell gas in the car and we are scared. Now, my and my family's life under risk. Who will be responsible if car got fire and we all die. . Please let me know what to do and how to give this car back without any cost to me?.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2016 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

Dealer performed recall service for safety recall 16v647 - suction pump. Following service service station pump trips off after filling small amount of gas and gas gauge is inoperative. Dealer has been unable to correctly problem in 3 service visits. Complaint is 2-fold: (1) dealer has been unable to carry out safety recall service correctly. (2) inability to measure fuel level is a safety hazard.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 11/03/2016

Vehicle displaying mil light @ 68,948 miles. Dealer diagnosis:to correct fault, requires replacement of intake manifold assembly & fuel filter, recommended cleaning of intake valves while the intake manifold was removed.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

Car lost acceleration at approx 40 mph on 4 lane road. Dealer diagnostic claims broken cam chain. Dealer did not check warranty extension part cam follower which is known to fail (per cory from vwoa) but has another warranty extension part intake camshaft on repair list. There are several hundreds of these incidents happening with a quick search.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Gti. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost power. After a couple of seconds, the vehicle would regain power. In addition, while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and resume driving. A few days later, the contact noticed that when he pulled the fuel filter and inlet out, there were metallic particles in the fuel filter. The failure recurred numerous times. The contact called the schworer Volkswagen dealer (located at 3301 schworer dr, Lincoln, ne 68504) who stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 166,190.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

The car sputtered, shook, and made an awful sound similar to a ton of marbles in a drier machine. The timing chain went at roughly 82,000 miles. According to vw literature they stated that the reason they went back to a timing chain is that it is a lifetime, nonserviceable part. The timing chain going on an interference type engine destroyed my engine to the order of almost $4000. Vw did not want to assist with anything.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 06/13/2014

The car stalled and lost power while driving. No power and no time to allow safely to move the car to the shoulder. Almost cause a rear end collision.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

My car at high speeds (50mph - 65mph) the gas pedal "dies" or looses authority and becomes un-responsive. At times as the gas pedal goes dead the car also shuts off at 65 mph causing a dangerous situation not only for my self but cars around me. I have take my car to my local mechanic but can not figure out the cause of the problem. Multiple parts and sensors have been replaced and inspected with out a solution. This is my only car therefore I continue to drive my car with hopes that an accident does not occur. I have taken the all the steps within my control to solve this problem but have not been successful. I have not heard a responds from Volkswagen. Thank you.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 12/22/2012

We purchased and we were servicing our vw Gti 2010 at autobarn mt. Prospect/IL. In the last 2 years we replaced all ignition coils at different time intervals and twice for cylinder #2. There are actually multiple issues here. First, this kind of problem can easily generate an accident, if one ignition coil fails at the wrong time and the wrong place (when passing or driving on a mountain road). Second, the ignition coils are poorly designed and they go bad way too fast making the car undriveable. Costly towing was required almost every time. Third, the vw dealership should advise customers to replace all coils in the same time at the first sign of trouble. Instead they choose to replace them one by one, charging between $180. 00 and $220. 00 every time just for labor, when the part itself costs just $32. 00 and the level of difficulty for this task is very low.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Volkswagen Gti. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds she noticed loud noises coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the vehicle was included in a manufacturer's recall for the cam follower in the fuel system. After having the repairs done they informed the contact that there were metal shavings from the recalled component that got into the motor and as a result it needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the recall repairs had been performed once before. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000 and the current mileage was approximately 71,000. The VIN was unavailable. Pmb.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Volkswagen GTI

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

I bought this vw Gti 2009 in 01/2009. Since last summer, the engine start to have issues when trying to turn it on. Here is what happens: when the engine temperature is cool, it has no problem to turn it on. But when the engine is already warmed up (e. G. , after drive 15 min on the freeway), and you turn it off. Then there is >50% chance it won't get started when you try to turn it on again. If this happens, I might have to try a couple of times then it can get the engine started. I have been to two different vw dealers for several times, neither can identify what's the root cause. In my last visit, I showed them how to reproduce the problem, and I left the car for a couple of days. But they told me that they cannot reproduce the problem.
