1 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2016

Car kept stalling after take off when you accelerated. When taking it to the repair shop it would not start and had to be towed there. When they got it they discovered all but 1 quart of the oil in the engine was gone. They determined that this malfunction damaged the engine and the engine would have to be replaced. Have the oil changed every 3-5000 miles and it wasn't due for an oil change for another 1000 miles or so. They have no idea why this happened and Volkswagen won't do anything about it. All of this took place in the city. We were to afraid to take it out on the highway. Car has 109000 miles on it and has been a lemon from day 1. This was just the icing that topped the cake.

2 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at a low speed, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the engine warning light previously illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the engine warning light needed to be reset. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,208. Oo.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2014

On my way home from work I was cruising down at the interstate with the car on cruise control. Everything was fine the first 45 minutes of driving then all of a sudden my glowplug light illuminated and started flashing meaning engine malfunction. My vehicle started losing speed all of a sudden on the interstate which could have easily caused a crash. Luckily I pulled the vehicle over on the side of the road and the vehicle just stalled out on me. Now Volkswagen is saying the high pressure fuel pump sent metal shards into the fuel system and it all needs replaced and they will charge me 8000 dollars. I cannot be blamed for the failure of a fuel pump on a car with 40000 miles. I never allow the tank to go below 1/4 of a tank. There have multiple reports of peoples high pressure fuel pump going out and sending metal shards into the fuel system. This is very dangerous and could get someone very hurt or could possibly result in death. Something needs to be done about this.

4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Vehicle will stall going from reverse to drive or from park to drive. Also from while accelerating there is sputtering that I need to release the accelerator and then apply again to keep it from stalling.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

While driving my 2010 vw Jetta tdi at 45 mph the glow plug light began to flash with no warning and engine power became dramatically reduced. I was unable to maintain speed on a busy roadway and was forced to make an abrupt exit from the road to avoid causing an accident. Using back roads with low speed limits I was able to reach a Volkswagen dealership. After arriving the vehicle could not be restarted. After 3 days of inspection it was determined that the high pressure fuel pump had failed and the metal shavings from the failed pump contaminated the entire fuel system and clogged it with rust. Even though the vehicle was out of warranty, Volkswagen of America covered the cost of the repair which entailed replacing the entire fuel system. The technician informed me that this was a known problem with the type of high pressure fuel pump installed on my car which is why vwoa was covering the repair even though the vehicle was out of warranty and there was no recall. Given the high potential for injury when this known fault occurs, I do not understand why all vehicles (which include all 2010+ Audi and vw tdi engines) that feature this faulty fuel pump have not been subject to a recall to have the problem repaired.

6 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

2010 Jetta sedan tdi --> fuel leak --> day prior ran normal. Went to start and did not start. Thought was the battery. Charged emergency starter for 4hr and attempted again with no avail. Called a friend who is a diesel mechanic to help start it. Hooked to his truck and still no start. I noticed wet underneath the front passenger wheel and thought nothing of it since it was parked on the street, so water possibly. It started to snow. Went and purchased a new battery. Installed the battery, after battery install still did not start. Attempted 2 more times. Since it was not the battery he began to look elsewhere while I attempted to start and yelled at me to stop. I go to the front of the auto and he shows me where the diesel is pulsating out and that is why it is not starting, it is not getting to the engine. I then look around the car and with the snow, I then notice a long green path of diesel fuel along the road. I called vw, paid the 84$ to tow to vw dealer and they could not look at it until a week later. My concern is the gas leak. I should technically have over 54k on the vehicle, I am not even close to those others for sale on the market. I am not upset since no bodily harm was done, however the leak is in great amount. I do recall a couple of days earlier that I was going through gas quicker. I fill 1x a month, with 4 days I was through a quarter of a tank but it did not click. This is me notifying you of my gas leak. The car never started and there was no fire but there is concern due to the leak. My mechanic friend stated that he had no idea what the part was called that was shooting out the fuel and to take to a authorized vw dealer which I did. I still have 5 days till they can even look at my car.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Owned my 2010 vw Jetta sport wagon tdi 6sp man since new. It has always had an interment cough & sputter that would happen at any speed or condition, but was very infrequent an non-repeatable. Now however, starting at around 85,000 miles, the cough and stall has become more frequent, causes the glow plug indicator light to flash and the vehicle loses power (goes into limp mode?). This used to all reset when turning off the key. The last time I brought it to the dealer, parr imports in bremerton wa, at 89,802 miles it had p0322 & p0651 fault codes. They suspected an intermittent crank sensor fault and wanted me to monitor. It has progressively gotten much worse, I have now lost power in heavy traffic and stalled in the parking lot puling onto the road and have had to switch vehicles when it would not reset leaving the house. I was compelled to buy the torque application for my android phone to view and reset fault codes. I have not reset the ecu faults at least 4 maybe 6 times and now, at around 92,000 miles, it shows 5 codes and won't reset: p0322: ignition/distributor engine speed input circuit no signal, p2127: throttle/pedal position sensor/switch e circuit low input, p0193: fuel rail pressure sensor circuit high input, p0651: unknown code - more information may be available on the web, p0300: random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. My internet research suggest the high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) may be an issue with vw blaming it on gasoline contamination, however I have records and receipts confirming I always fuel with diesel from a major distributor.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

I stopped at a light after exiting the interstate and the vehicle stalled. . . . I was almost rear ended.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Pulled on to highway and vehicle suddenly stalled in middle of intersection. Engine went to idle. No throtle response. After several pedal presses it took off.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

While on vacation and backing up in the hotel parking lot, braking, then putting it in drive, the car would stall out; it happened 3 times in one day. Luckily, I was only in a parking lot while it stalled out instead of in traffic, which could have been a big hazard. Went to the dealer, and they didn't know what is wrong.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

Slowly turning right out of parking lot on completion of turn car stalled with no initial indication. Shifted into park and restarted with no problem. This has happened twice before pulling into home driveway and stopping at a streetlight.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2012

While driving 65 mph on the freeway in oakland, CA, the engine malfunction light came on, my car began to slow down, and as soon as I exited the freeway the car stalled and stopped altogether, and would not restart. I was towed to the oakland vw dealership. They informed me that the fuel pump had failed, and had to replace the fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, etc. The dealer said that there were shards of metal throughout the fuel lines. This appears related to NHTSA engineering analysis ea11-003.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

I was at a light in first gear at a complete stop. The engine was idling rough. (not the first time, but vw couldn't find anything wrong). The rpm on idling is normally 800. It was up to 1,000. It sputtered twice and hicupped from 1000 to 700 to 1000 to 700 in the period of 3 seconds. My clutch was in as was the brake and I was in first gear since I was at a light but at a standstill. The car subsequently stalled without me having moved the car. The car restarted and I still detected the rough idle.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2012

Vehicle stalled on two separate occasions. In March the car cut off while sitting at a light. On 4/17/12, the vehicle stalled when coming to a stop from an off ramp.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

The car affected is a 2010 vw Jetta tdi. Ever since I've owned the car, it has had an issue with running ruff or stalling out. At 30,426 miles I had the dealer look at the vehicle. They ran a diagnostic and test drive with no issues found. This enough for it to be noticeable, but no symptoms are present. I brought the car in again for the same issue on 12/8/14 at 83748 miles, but this time there was an esp error that flashed in the mdi display and then went away. The dealer could not verify the customer complaint. The service manager also stated that he had a similar vehicle with the same problem and the could also not be diagnosed. At the time the dealer told me that I could have the software upgraded and that would be a charge to me or I could have the injectors changed out and that would be covered under the extended warranty. The were charging according to how they were going to fix the problem, not on the issue itself. Vw sent me the paperwork in April of 2015 to get my money back. The dealer recommended changing the mdi display, but was not sure this would fix the problem. My concern is that there is an issue that Volkswagen cannot diagnose that could possibly turn into a safety issue with thecae stalling.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2011

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta diesel. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without any warning. After waiting a few moments, the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer and they stated that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a response. The failure mileage was approximately 44,100.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

My 2010 vw Jetta tdi has had 5 episodes of stalling (actually it does not stall in the normal sense of the word, the engine just stops running). In all 5 incidents the car needed to be placed in park, the ignition needed to be turned off and then the car could be restarted and ran normally. In 4 of the incidents it was either raining or had just recently rained. The 5th incident had high humidity. The O2 sensor has been updated twice. The first time as a response to the problem, the second time as part of normal maintainence.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

Jetta tdi stalling.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2011

While driving at 35mph, car stalled out. Battery light flashed, radio etc stayed on, but car had no power at all. Rolled to next intersection, turned car off, and restarted it. Took it to dealer, they said it was a software update, which they then performed. Aug. 24 exiting i95, 65mph, same thing happens, I pressed the gas and the engine was totally dead. Lights and radio stayed on. Once again I rolled to a stop, and restarted the car. Took it to the dealer, they kept it for an hour and said there was nothing wrong with my car. So I took it to another dealer. After having my car for a week they were able to duplicate my problem. Their computers were hooked up to my car at the time, and showed no faults. So they were back and forth with vw tech support, and they are flying in an engineer, and they think it might be the steering control module malfunctioning. They have had my car for two weeks now, I have no idea when it will be fixed, if ever.

20 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2011

My 2010 Jetta tdi sedan has stalled 3 times on me in the past few weeks. On the first occasion, I had come off a freeway, driven two blocks on a street, and was making a left. The car stalled and the battery light came on. I put it in neutral and restarted the car. Two weeks later, I was making a left into a parking lot and the same thing occurred. The car stalled but started immediately. On 2/22/11, I was driving through a parking lot and the car stalled again. Luckily, no driver was behind me. I had the car serviced by vw van nuys, CA but they were unable to replicate the problem and could find no trace of it.

21 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

Vehicle hesitates, usually at lower speeds, but sometimes at highway speeds, and stalled completely in intersections twice. Initally this was most often on a cold start, within the first 5-10 miles, but not consistently. It might do it once a day, once a week, or once every two or three weeks. I believe the problem to be fuel system related and not transmission. I have reported the problem to dealer with each service call (3 so far, I have 20k miles to date). Dealer initially suggested bad fuel and to buy only chevron, but there is no correlation between fuel source and hesitation, no evidence of water in fuel filter, etc. , and I usually purchase chevron fuel. Dealer reported being unable to identify the problem without "codes". Vehicle hesitated again (11/25/11), within one block of driving after 20k service. I immediately returned to dealer, and they were still unable to diagnose. Dealer has kept the car and contacted vw USA tech service, but remains unable to diagnose as of 12/2/11. My daughter purchased the same car 3 days after I bought mine and has the same problem (30k miles so far), but has not stalled in an intersection - yet. This is not our inability to drive a stick transmission - both of us have owned diesel Jettas with manual transmissions for 10 years prior to our recent purchases. I contacted vw USA and have received the same message - unless they can diagnose a specific problem, there is nothing they can do, but they did suggest going to a different dealer. Vw did perform a fuel line recall with my last service, but the hesitation remains. There are a number of reports of this problem on the web, but vw is unwilling to attempt any repair without a solid diagnosis. Stalling in intersections and hesitation while driving are unacceptable performance for a car. Period. I hope you can help. Evenings or early ams are best time to call.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

I purchased my brand new vw Jetta from the dealership lot. Less than 4 weeks later when the car was in the driveway I started it, and as I pressed the gas down the car began to move (in a sputtering/jerking type of movemen)t but it was not able to go more than 7 feet before it stalled out,, and the rpm's were high and the car just moved like it was not able to properly accelerate, it stalled out before the end of my drive way. I started it again and it drove properly, this exact incident occurred at least1- 2 times a week on a cold start. I took it to dealership, nothing found on diagnostics. Then at least every 1-2 months I took it to dealership, no proof on diagnostics . Next a recall & work was done. Same problem occurred again and again. Took it back. They said they could not find a solution because its not repeating the stalling when its at dealership. I am still having the issue of my car stalling out when driving, it is a safety issue. It is dangerous driving a car that stalls out while you are on the road. Since the cold start issues I have also had it stall out on the road, in an intersection. This car is still repeating the stalling. I cannot get any answers on how to fix it due to no "proof" on diagnostics check. I feel unsafe in my car. It starts to accelerate then shuts off. This is not acceptable and hasnt ever been properly fixed even thoughvw corporate has a case on the issues of my car. .

23 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

Car idling in park. Engaged dsg transmission, car immediately stalls. . Attempted to restart, run/stall, run/stall, run/stall. Now runs rough. . . Mileage dropped 20%. Car at dealer - dealer has reported 5 other tdi's in same condition.

24 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2010

2010 Volkswagen sportwagen tdi. Car suffered dozens of loss of power incidents, several left the car without power at freeway speeds. Repeat visit to dealer did not resolve problem, dealer was aggressive that I was mis-fueling the car with gasoline instead of diesel, which never happened once (I have full receipts for entire vehicle ownership). Latest incident left me without power or effective steering on I-5 bridge between oregon and washington, nearly causing an accident. Dealer and vw would not answer any questions, and claimed if they could not reproduce the issue, I was on my own. I suspect the high pressure fuel pump had an internal defect, that didn't lead to complete failure/destruction, but would intermittently throw errors causing the car to stall or lose power.

25 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted and stalled again on the same day. Volkswagen was contacted and claimed that they were unaware of any stalling issues with the 2010 Jetta. The vehicle was being repaired by the dealer for repairs. The current and failure mileages were approximately 1,400.

26 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

2010 vw Jetta 2. 0 tdi cup edition: entering traffic in first gear, at about 4000-4200 rpm, car had a complete loss of power. Engine did not die. I pushed in clutch and power returned. This has occurred monthly with no consistency since I purchased the car in July 2010. Occurs with a warm engine. Cold engine. Various levels of fuel, and various climate conditions. It has been taken to o'brien Volkswagen, a certified repair facility, every 3-6 months to have the issue resolved. Dealership can not replicate the issue and as a result has not solved the problem. Problem has been witnessed by three different passengers. A secondary stalling issue occurs between 1200-1800 with light gas peddle pressure. In this case, the car has a small pause or decrease in power. Down shifting and accelerating eliminates the problem.

27 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2010

3 months after purchase car was stalling like it wanted to take off, but was dragging. I was told by dealer slight defect parts were replaced. Recently, car stopped on me twice when I made a complete stop at the light. Power remained on, but I had to restart the car.

28 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

During the first month of owndership, I was driving down the highway at 55 mph and preparing to stop for stoplight, the car stalled at speed; I assumed that it was due to being unaccustomed to the gearing. I have also had several instances in which after the car had been sitting in the parking lot during work, I pulled out and the car stumbled, but did not stall. However, I did need to engage the clutch several times. Also, after the same circumstances, I pulled out successfully and felt the car lose power suddenly, as if there was not enough gas/air to keep going.

29 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically stall without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they were not able to duplicate or diagnose the failure. The failure mileage was 20,746 and the current mileage was 32,978.

30 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

Multiple incidents that appear to be the same problem/defect. 1. The car sometimes will not start for several minutes, and once it does finally start, has a very rough idle and stalls. After several tries, it finally starts and runs normally. This has happened 7-8 times from July 2010 until the present. 2. Now, over the past two months, the car tries to stall out while driving also, and has resulted in my wife having to pull off the road and restart the car. This has only happened twice so far, but the starting and rough idle problem continues to occur approximately once every couple of weeks. On another note, I want to ensure that if any recalls occur as a result of everybody's complaints, that u. S. Military stationed overseas are not left out. Many of us purchase these u. S. Spec cars from local dealer agencies who (re)import the cars back to europe for this purpose. Oftentimes recalls are not enforceable overseas, however, this is a Volkswagen and there are plenty of authorized vw dealers in germany, and in europe as a whole.

31 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 65 mph she heard a throbbing noise coming from the speakers and all of the interior lights stopped functioning. She was also unable to use the radio. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and shut off. Upon restarting the vehicle it would function normally. The failure continued to occur intermittently. She also stated that she would attempt to change the radio station but the radio would intermittently display a message reading "no cd" or "no magazine". A few months later while driving approximately 10 mph the vehicle stalled. Upon restarting the vehicle it functioned normally. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on 3 occasions where they were unable to diagnose the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100 and the current mileage was 10,000.

32 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. (na) . The contact stated that the vehicle lost power in third gear and when he attempted to merge into traffic, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure occurred intermittently when the ignition was turned off. He was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times but the failure could not be diagnosed. The dealer replaced the fuel filter which did not correct the problem. The failure mileage was 0 and the current mileage was 20,000. Updated 03/16/11.

33 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The car chronically stalls in first or second gear in stop and go traffic, at very slow speeds or when coasting. When giving it gas and letting out the clutch, it just stalls with no warning. Have spoken with other Jetta tdi owners and they acknowledge same problem.

34 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the battery warning light illuminated followed by the vehicle stalling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
