I was driving down a busy road when I saw smoke coming out from under my hood of the car. I immediately pulled over onto a side street and popped the hood. The engine was engulfed in flames. I then pulled my panicked 4 year old daughter out of her car seat and took her across the street. We then called 9-11 and the sheriff's department and fire department showed up to put out the fire. I had my car towed to a mechanic where he says the fire was caused by a fuel line. There is a recall for the same year and model for my car but it is not for my VIN# even though it's the same cause as my car's fire!.
I have a 2010 vw Jetta with 118k on it and while I was driving my engine died on me in the middle of the highway causing some serious safety issue. I evetually had the car towed to nearest repair shop and they estimated repair cost to be between 4-5k range to replace the timing chain tensinor. I did a quick google search and found thounds of people complaing about the same issue. Vw seriously needs to look into this. Very dissaponted. Won't buy another vw every again.
There has been a statewide lawsuit against Volkswagen regarding 2010 Jetta timing chain and timing chain tensor. The dealer ship has refused to correct the issue with my vehicle even tough it is still under warranty. Rick case Volkswagen has refused to check an issue that Volkswagen has stated they were aware of timing chain issues.
Random misfire permanent cylinder v and after the start of effects on the automatic transmission heard tuba and some of the development.
The timing chain system in my 2010 Volkswagen Jetta wolfsburg edition failed, rendering the car immobile. Fortunately, the vehicle was in a parking lot, as failure in a road could have caused an accident. Based on readings, this has happened to multiple cars with the same engine and has resulted in a class action lawsuit against Volkswagen.
While driving anytime that we would slow down or put the vehicle into reverse the vehicle would go randomly in neutral. It was randomly this would happen and became more frequent. Took it to a dealer and they said we would have to have the transmission replaced soon. Right before this their were about another $3,000 worth of issues we had to fix.
Not able to turn key in the ignition. Sometimes not able to start car. Sometimes not able to turn car off.
My key has been difficult to turn in the ignition to start the car recently. Yesterday I had the same problem but the car started. After driving the car the key would not turn to turn off the car. No matter what I can not get the key out of the ignition. I only got the motor to shut off because my son knew to pull a fuse and then take off a battery cable. This ignition problem is serious and is a safety issue if you can't turn off the car.
Engine of my car caught fire after a short drive, luckily my daughter was able to pull it on our drive way and move away safely before engine caught fire. We had to call fire department to put off the fire.
Ignition system keeps failing. Car keys get stuck and car won't turn off and having a hard time tuning the key to start the car. Each time the car is parked and the steering lock is disengaged.
Diesel fuel filter is clogging up and was told that it required replacement at a cost of $7,000. 00.
While excelerating from a red light my car went into "limp mode" and lost most of its power. I could not drive faster than 40 mph or 2400 rpm. I contacted vw dealer and they instructed me to drive the vehicle in which was only 8 miles from my house. Enroute to dealership my car lost all power and shut off in the middle of the road. I could not start the vehicle and had to get it towed to the dealership. Upon inspection, it was found that my high pressure fuel pump had failed which caused my turbo to also fail. The fuel in the tank was not contaminated, this was just a failure of the system.
Car lost acceleration getting on highway from on ramp and then died in the lane of traffic. Speedcraft dealer said the engine hydrolocked and that the recommended fix was an updated intercooler and that this was a known issue. There was a TSB that was issued regarding this issue.
Jetta hpfp. In early 2013 my Jetta tdi had to have the fuel pump replaced due to a defect in the materials. The issue has just happened again, same symptoms. Only this time Volkswagen is claiming the fuel pump failed due to contiminated fuel. My insurance company denies that fact and is pointing the finger at vw for a faulty fuel pump. The repair is upwards of $5000 and Volkswagen is not offering to cover it. My car is now sitting in disassembled state at the dealership while I am paying for a rental car and my insurance company and vw play a ping-pong match of passing the blame.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that there was a internal leak from the motor associated with the engine, the left side low beams had shorted several times, the skid warning light illuminated and then the vehicle traction was poor so the suspension and steering was loose while braking. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for further testing and diagnosis. The contact was excluded from 16v913000 (service brakes, hydraulic, electronic stability control). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, indicated that there was no recall and provided no solution so the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Dyd.
Turbo failed on tdi.
When traveling on i10 freeway at about 70mph the engine went to half power I tried to get to a dealer ship but before I could the engine quit while on the freeway. This was caused by a defective fuel pump. On my tdi Jetta.
Incident occurred when approaching an intersection. Engine died as if the car ran out of fuel. Tried to restart the car but the car would not turnover. It would only crank. Acted like it ran out of fuel but there was half a tank of fuel.
Pulled away from stop sign into traffic. Engine quit as if fuel was cut off. Coasted to side of roadway. Car would not restart though it did crank. About a third of a tank of fuel, 80k service was two weeks ago. Car had to be towed to shop.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 50 mph, the shift lever independently shifted to neutral and back into drive. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the spark plugs and igniter coil needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 37 mph, the engine and the glow plug system warning lights illuminated. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to a impound lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Driving around city street. Jetta began to lose power and the glow bulb indicator began flashing. After turning off and restarting the car I drove for another two blocks then the glow bulb indicator came on again paired this time with the red battery indicator. After that the car rolled to a stop and would not turn back over.
I was driving my vw Jetta tdi on a local surface street in heavy traffic when my car died with no warning and initially would not restart. Fortunately I had enough momentum to coast to the side of the road to avoid being in an accident. I was able to restart the car and resume after a few moments. This has happened once more and is disconcerting. I always purchase fuel from name-brand and high-volume gas stations. I believe this to be related to NHTSA action number : ea11003.
Failure of the high pressure fuel pump in a vw Jetta sportswagen tdi. Volkswagen made the repairs under warranty, for which I am appreciative. However, I am concerned it will happen again.
Driving along when a warning light came on( epc) which is electronic power control. On my way to the dealer now.
Car in shop for approximately 11 days. Although car out of warranty, fixed with authorization from vw of America as a "warranty" repair at no charge to me. Bad fuel not an issue (tested). Hpfp and all major fuel systems/lines cleaned or replaced. High pressure fuel pump failure.
2010 vw Jetta sportwagen tdi. Car lost power at highway speeds. "glow plug" indicator illuminated and hud displayed "service immediately. " was able to safely pull over to shoulder. Car would not restart. Had to be towed to nearby dealership. Informed today that high pressure fuel pump (hpfp) had failed and would be covered under extended warranty. Will be without car for 5-10 days. Car is located 1 hour away from home. Rental car was offered, but I would have to get out to dealership to pickup. This is the second occurrence of hpfp failure on vehicle. Similar occurrence (loss of power on highway) happened on March 24, 2011. Again, car was stuck in dealership far from home.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the check engine warning indicator illuminated continuously after the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall. The vehicle was taken to berge Volkswagen (385 w baseline rd, gilbert, az 85233, (480) 646-4858), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
I was driving down the road when I accelerated hard and I predndio light of "glow plug" on the panel, the car lost power and was limited to spend two thousand rpm's coming home that was close. I did nothing that night, I followed turning on the light in the panel. The next day I turn it normal, I turned on the light . . . Then it caught me way to work again and I return to my home, I turned on and off and it caught and never turn off. Take it to the vw service center and was told that the pump has fault injection and particulate throughout the fuel system. Tell me that the repair will cost more than 4000 dollars . . . And the worst is that no warranty.
Driving on 2nd lane of freeway. Sudden loss of power - all warning lights come on dashboard accompanied by bells and dings. Pulled over to side of road - fortunately traffic not heavy. Engine was still running however no forward movement when pushing accelerator pedal - engine just revved. Turned car off then restarted. Warning lights still flashed but was able to put car into drive and start rolling - vehicle was in "limp" mode however and would not go over 10 mph. Vehicle was towed to dealership where it was diagnosed and the ecu reset. Dealership unable to recreate problem. On 8/16/14 the same thing happened as I was pulling out of my driveway. The vehicle was again towed to dealership where it was diagnosed with a faulty abs control unit for an estimated 2500. 00.
When I approached a red light I pushed the clutch in and started to slow down. I was in the turn lane and there was an opening as I started moving feet from clutch to fuel pedal. The car lurch and came to a stop. The car had died while I was slowing down to get in the turn lane. I have called the vw dealer and they have no idea on why the car did and is still doing this. I don't feel it is safe for me or for my family, I am a firefighter and I really truly believe that the car is going cause an accident or kill us. The car has shut off on its own over twenty times in the last few months. It doesn't happen every time that the clutch is depressed, some days it doesn't do it at all. Other days it is every time or every other stop. When traveling at highways speeds the Jetta lurches like it is out of fuel even thou it has a full tank. All of the cars maintance is up to date per the dealer.
The car had been parked in the rain for approximately 90 minutes. I started the car and drove slowly through the parking lot. The engine stopped without warning and required that the car be brought to a full stop and the ignition turned off before the car could be started. The car ran fine after being restarted. This is the 6th incident of this kind that I have experienced.
Came to a stop at a light and the car was fine at first. Then, all of a sudden the rpms started bouncing around and the car turned off. It wouldn't turn on for about a minute and I was able to drive off. The incident has happened again on at least 3 occasions. Name-brand diesel has always been used, full maintenance has been followed including fuel filter replacement and dsg transmission service.
Driving at about 40 mph with about 1/4 tank of gas when car started to sputter and run rough. The glow plug indicator light began flashing and I pulled into a nearby parking lot where I shut the car off. I restarted the car and pulled out of the parking lot but car immediately began to run rough and lose power again so I pulled into a gas station lot where the car refused to restart. Called a tow truck and got car towed to autobarn in countryside (where I bought the car). Tried to restart car again at dealership and noticed the fuel gage was reading "empty", meaning fuel had leaked out since the car died. Dealer called me the next day saying my high pressure fuel pump had failed and my entire fuel system from the gas tank on up to the injectors had to be replaced. Was covered under warranty and dealer was very helpful and did the job in four days, during t-giving week, which I was very satisfied with. I always get my diesel at bp amoco's or mobiles and make sure to use heavily trafficked station to have the best chance of getting fresh fuel. I am not comfortable driving the car and have considered trading it in due to vw corporate's seeming indifference to the problem, which is well documented online and there are many many cases similar to mine. Shortly after I bought the car I noticed that all the fuel stations in my area went from 5% biodiesel to 20% biodiesel. I asked the dealer at the time about it because the owners manual states vw will not warranty the car if anything more than 5% biodiesel is used. The dealer said vw would warrant it and a written statement from vw came in the mail shortly thereafter. I can't help but wonder if the higher biodiesel percentage led to the failure.
On oct. 4, 2013 the high pressure fuel pump failed while I was driving. The glow plug light started to blink, I started to pull over planning to shut the car off and restart it to see if the light went off. Before I got pulled over the engine died and would not restart. It had to be towed to the dealership. It could have been a very dangerous situation had I been driving in high speed traffic on the freeway. The high pressure fuel pump failure sent metal shavings through out the entire fuel system. All pumps, injectors, fuel rails, filters, lines all had to be replaced. The fuel tank had to be cleaned and lines all flushed. Thankfully it was covered by vw 60000 mile powertrain warranty. I have read about a lot of other people who have had this happen. It is very dangerous when your car just dies going down the road and will not restart.
